Skaftafell: Blue Ice Glacier Hike On Vatnajökull

This was our favorite experience of our trip around ring road. Josh did a phenomenal job of showing and explaining the glaciers - we got so many great pictures!

This was a fantastic experience where we had the opportunity to hike and explore one of the outlets of Vatnajökull. We were provided with crampons, an ice axe, and helmets for the hike. Our guide, Maria, gave us clear instructions along the way, from the meeting point to the start of the glacier hike. She was very kind and attentive throughout the entire experience. On the way back, my wife had some trouble keeping up, and Maria noticed right away. She stayed with her and walked alongside her all the way to the end of the hike, which we really appreciated. Throughout the hike, Maria shared interesting information about Vatnajökull and glaciers in general, making the experience both enjoyable and educational. We explored the glacier for almost two hours, and it was an incredible experience. I definitely recommend this tour!

Arctic Adventures Glacier Hike was great! Our group of 15 was led by our guide Jamie, from Scotland, who was very accommodating to our groups desires! He was very informative about the glacier and how crevasses and holes were formed and how quickly the glaciers are receding. Felt very safe in our helmet, ice ax, and crampons! It has been extremely nice and unique. The group leader was incredibly professional and gave a sense of safety. She explained a lot during the trekking.

This is an amazing tour! Our guide was incredible and took us to as many spots on the glacier as possible. It’s the perfect length of time and everything is organized perfectly. Would definitely recommend!

Irina our guide was GREAT! It took long time walking on ground before we got to the glacier. I guess I did not read well the details of the tour. But it was still a good experience and our guide made it even better.

Outstanding experience with this tour. Our guide JP who was from France did great job making it fun and adventures. Make sure to were sturdy ankle hiking boots. That is super important. And be ready for a very long walk. Once on ice it was such a great feeling.

Tour is spectacular. Walking on the majestic glaciers, understanding the size and scale of these in their prime, way they shape landscapes, dangers of crevasses , stunning blues, drinking glacier water, dangers they can unleash with active volcano’s beneath+++ Elizabeth as a guide was excellent and highly recommended to do the tour. It’s relatively easy as there are no strenuous climbs in this and saw grandparents and kids on the tour

We booked the moderate tour and had Kevin as our guide. He is very competent and we felt very safe during the whole experience. I definitely recommend doing the moderate tour. You get an amazing view and get the whole glacier experience. When you go to the gym and do hikes sometimes your fitness level should be sufficient. We had an amazing experience and got some amazing pictures from the top with beautiful weather!

Great activity. The guides were helpful and competent. The staff at the departure location helped us dress appropriately.

I learned so much about glaciers from our wonderful guide Anya. It was an awesome and amazing opportunity! Don’t be fooled by the dirty, gravelly appearance! That’s the glacier doing its work. There’s more ice than you could ever imagine under the surface.

We did the glacial crevasse hike (about 4 hours total) and it was amazing! Our guide Ivo was fantastic and the hike was definitely doable with an 11 and 13 year old.

Angelica was an amazing guide! She is so knowledgeable about the National Park and glaciers. She shared a lot of information I did not know before hand. She was very kind and very patient. 10//10 would recommend this hike to anyone!! They’d be lucky to have Angelica as their guide!

Did a glacier tour with Jan, our guide. He was full of knowledge and a great laugh. Making sure we all stayed safe and had a good time. Also took some great photos of everyone and made sure everyone had a great experience. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of doing it.

We had such an amazing time on this excursion!! I went with my parents, who are older and not quite as agile as they used to be, but they did great! Our guide, Jan, was fantastic!! He really knew a lot and was able to educate us on so much stuff and had some fun stories too! He was also super helpful and patient with my mom when she needed extra help. This is a must do activity while in Iceland!!!

This was an awesome tour. First time glacier trip but experienced hikers. Ice cave, crevasses, science, history, and laughs. Recommend the small group. Travelled at a good pace and Christian went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a safe and enjoyable trip!

The glacier hike was absolutely stunning! Such a wonderful and unique experience. Sara our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, and coordinated beautiful photo opportunities in the crevasses throughout the hike. It was such a special experience, highly recommend it!

Wow! What an awesome day for me, my mother and my sister. All of the guides and staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgable, but we especially appreciated the care and attention from our guide Guillaume. There were a wide range of athletic abilities and he made sure to tend to everyone's needs. I hope to be back for the ice climbing!

You spent enough time on ice. The guides suggested a few photo spots and took some photos and videos for everyone.

Our guide Ivo was wonderful. He was knowledgeable, funny and engaging. He was great with our two children, 12 & 8. He made them feel very special and important during the hike. Ivo was great with the rest of the group as well. He made sure everyone, of all skill levels, had a great experience on the glacier. Ivo took wonderful photographs of our family as well. My favorite part was doing the Viking Pushup to drink water from the glacier. When we go back to Iceland we will request our tours be with Ivo.

Michal was a funny and experienced tour guide who showed lots of patience with the group in terms of handling equipment and facility on the ice.

They do not there you that there is a hike just to get to the glacier is 45 min across really rough rocky terrain and then up 2 high sandy and rocky hills. It was described just as an uphill hike we took to mean on the glacier itself. The glacier they took us to was not either of the nice ones by the base camp , but a dirty much smaller one they had to bus is to. The hike was too hard and we did not get to the glacier before we had to turn back. Our guide was doing a fast walk across the rocky trail and we fell behind. She did not look back one time in the 1st 15 minutes of the walk to check. Finally she stopped to give some explanation. We missed any information she had during the walk. She then took off at the same pace without looking back till we stopped at the base of the 1st uphill climb. Other companies had busses that took you directly to the base of the 1st hill. Their excuse was they did not have the Right kind of bus. Whatever! I would not recommend this tour group.

Absolutely AMAZING! A must do activity. Ania was a spectacular tour guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable, safe, and entertaining. I learned so much & had a wonderfully thrilling experience hiking the glacier. There was history, lore, science, and fun. It was physically challenging while still perfectly doable for moderate physical levels. This is a can’t miss experience.

Such a nice walk in the Vatnajökull glaciar and even more special thanks to our nice guide Ivo :) Besides explaining everything about glaciers and how climate changes are afffecting these nature wonders, he was also very helpful in explaining how to use the equipment and walk safely in the glacier. He was also very nice to my 10 years old sister, his "co-pilot" during the walk. She really enjoyed it and it was a really nice way to give a special attention to children joining the group. A very beautiful and exciting activity!

Our guide (Anya) was very friendly, well trained, and informative. The hike from the bus to the glacier (and back) was moderate. The walk on the glacier itself was easier than I expected. It's a unique and wonderful experience; and not something you can do on your own without a guide. I highly recommend it.

This was such a fun adventure! Ivo was an amazing guide and went above and beyond to make it a safe memorable experience. The hike was relatively short with a lot to see.

Our guide IVO was amazing. We had a group of 16 and our guide was awesome. He took a lot of extra time to show everyone how to use equipment and as a photographer himself really took the time to take amazing photos at great locations.

People should know that you spend around an hour getting your gear on and driving to the glacier. The glacier is super thick and not scary and the guides are very well trained. Our guide seemed new and didn't have as much knowledge of the area, which was a little sad, but he was still a great guy. I think his name was Miguel.

Our family of 4 - kids 18/22 has an absolute blast on this hike. We learned how to tie crampons and use an ice axe (though never needed it). Drank water straight from the glacier stream… took some mock extreme pictures and all in all had a great time. Kamila was a wonderful guide and was full of information about Iceland, the glaciers and the flora/fauna.

Great experience to walk on the glacier and learn about Vatnajökull National Park. Our guide was very knowledgeable. She explained the history of the glacier and how it continues to melt. We had time to take pictures and drink glacial water.

Hike is somewhere between easy and moderate. It was amazing and we had the BEST guide and would tell anyone coming to Iceland to do this.
