Really good experience. The guide Raul was incredible. Explained a lot about the glacier, the area, and Iceland in general. And managed to fix my boot which broke before the start of the hike! The glacier is beautiful and changes each month so you might see different caves depending on the time you go.
Did not enjoy. Jerico was attentive & emphasised safety. However did not othewise engage unless spoken to. Not a people's person. Did not make the experience an enjoyable & FUN adventure as I expected it to be
Edgar was an amazing tour guide. Despite the weather…we had some icy rain…he was knowledgeable and entertaining. He also is a great photographer and helped us get the best shots. ❤️ Worth the trip for sure!!!
The guides explained the quality equipment usage, provided glacier facts and lovely photograph opportunities along with carefully watching out for every person in the group. Outstandi
Booked a glacier hike with troll.is after many great experiences with other companies in Iceland. This was one of the most shocking and unprofessional tour experiences we have ever had. Despite bringing high-quality, waterproof winter boots, I was forced to use the operator’s boots. The pair given to me was visibly wet and not waterproof. See pictures. I raised this concern three separate times with different staff members before the tour started. Each time, I was dismissed and told ‘honey, I can’t give you another pair we give this stuff to tourist all the time’. What kind of operator thinks deeply soaked summer boots with a squelching amount of water in there is normal to send human beings on a several hour glacier hike? Within minutes on the first couple of hundreds of meters through snow and slush, my boots filled with more water — loudly squelching with every step. My feet became ice-cold, and numb. The guide was informed and did nothing. It was even worse than nothing - although he knew I froze he did super slow and we stopped every 10 m or so for minutes. We stood more than we walked. I had to spend the entire glacier hike jumping and stamping just to maintain circulation and avoid potential injury. My kidneys began to hurt as a result of hours of frozen feet in a glacier tour. It was a horrific nightmare. When my husband asked for a pickup at the bottom of the glacier after the tour to spare me hobbling back to the bus with frozen feet for another half hour to prevent further harm, he was laughed at. This is not just poor service — this is reckless and negligent behavior that puts customers at real health risk. The entire experience was ruined for our family. No accountability, no support, no professionalism. I ended up with a pyelitis. This is absolutely unacceptable. I am going to update on the way the company deals with this failure.
This is a fantastic tour. The experience was beautiful and unique. On this tour you travel quite far on to the glacier, representing a good value. Our guide was very friendly and fun and assured our safety. Troll expeditions was very flexible and helped us out despite our late arrival. The guides gave suggestions of other points of interest in the area. The tour leaves from a place quite far from Reykjavik. I highly recommend this experience.
This was a unique experience and scenery was beautiful. Marco was amazing, very willing to share his knowledge about the glaciers, caves and the other stuff around. He gave us ample time at each checkpoint to click enough pictures. The tour was well organized, as per schedule and didn’t seemed rushed. However, I would suggest everyone to read the tour description carefully so that you understand that this is not really a hike and more like a stroll across the area with a lot of stops. We had our expectations in line while booking the tour. So, no complaints!
Marco was guide who was extremely knowledgeable and mad it a great experience.
Great, humorous guides made me feel comfortable and safe. Walking on a glacier, going into an ice cave, seeing and walking in the amazing scenery: all of the experience was top notch.
We had enrolled for Glacier hike with icar cave tour for 3-4 hours. It was an incredible experience. Our tour guide Eric, was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and safety-conscious, helping confidently climb up and down tricky sections. He explained about glacier and ice cave formation and kept the pace comfortable. Made the trip fun and memorable. Highly recommend
Wonderful experience. Fantastic tour guide Eric made the trip extra special. Amazing insight too the glaciers with great views
Tommaso was really kind, knowledgeable, and explained everything to us in detail. Great!
It’s 4-5 hours drive from Reykjavík, so plan accordingly. It’s cold ( we went Dec.26) so wear warm layers. They leave on time so don’t be late. Definitely worth it. Global warming is decimating these things SO JUST GO!
An amazing experience from start to finish. The ice cave tour was absolutely breathtaking — truly one of those moments that leave you speechless. Everything was perfectly organized, and we enjoyed every second. A special thank you to María, who was incredibly attentive and made sure everything went smoothly. Thank you for making the whole experience so easy and unforgettable! Highly recommended. Iceland at its best.
Our guide Fabian was phenomenal! He was so knowledgeable so friendly. Really made this the best excursion we did in Iceland. Wish the cave had been bigger, but it was still amazing to go into. The glacier walk was phenomenal. Loved walking in the crevasses and learning how they rescue people.
Exactly what you’re looking for! Fabian was fantastic. From start to finish the views, fun, climb and education aspects were on point. You can’t go wrong with this one and they offer so many other activities I might to another site with them.
We did the Skaftafell Blue Ice Cave And Glacier Hike in February. (This tour doesn't have its own reviews here on TripAdvisor.) They gear you up at the Troll Expeditions Skaftafell meeting point, and then you ride a bus to an area maybe a half-mile from the glacier. You walk to the glacier, and then the tour really gets going. It was a 5-star experience because of our likeable guide Anna. She loves it when you ask questions, can answer most of them, and occasionally will say "I don't know" instead of making up a b.s. answer that you later find out is wrong. I have never seen someone do a better job of telling people not to do something without it sounding like scolding! Among other things, we learned that glaciers move about a meter a day, but it varies across each glacier and the speed is part of what shapes the glacier. Also that an ice cave is a temporary thing; each one is used for one season at most, so the guides are often out hunting for a new one to show people. For me the dramatic peaks and valleys of the glacier were the star of the show, and the ice cave was more like "okay, now I can say I've walked through an ice cave". The tour was one of the most memorable experiences we had in Iceland, and I recommend it if you have at least average physical fitness.
My friend and I had a very good time on the glacier with a very positive and smart guide (Sderre) who taught us things about the glacier and showed us the most beautiful spots!! Thank you from DK. (Sorry if I spelled your name wrong hehe)
Very cool experience! We were a group of five girls going together, and didn’t know what to expect entirely. The team took great care of us, explaining everything from equipment to the glacier. Time flew on the glacier, such a stunning view and experience! The trip was money well spent, especially thanks to our amazing guide, Sderre, who was so enthusiastic and passionate about sharing her knowledge! Would definitely recommend!
Lucy is a nice and patient guide that gave us a lot of time to took pictures. We got so much amazing experience with glacier. They provided equipment, coffee and chocolate for us.😄
Our family of four (with a tween and a teen) had a great experience on the tour. Our guides were knowledgeable, personable and engaged throughout the hike. The weather took multiple turns and the energy and fun didn't falter.
We had a fabulous 4-hour trip up the glacier and around a small ice cave. Our guides Paola and Camina were amazing, very knowledgable and passionate about the glacier. Scenery was spectacular, a true once-in-a-lifetime view into a glacier. Highly recommend Troll Expeditions. We also did the Silfra snorkelling with them which was equally awesome.
Wonderful tour and well informed guide. This was our third glacier tour (each in a different country) and by fsr the BEST!
Our tour group was led by the wonderful maria. She was great checking up on all of us. She made the tour fun and enjoyable. This was definitely the highlight of the trip for me in iceland. Once in a lifetime experience for me in iceland. Very memorable. Highly recommend troll expeditions and our tour guide Maria. :)
The experience was fantastic! Elena and Camino were amazing guides and shared with us a lot of interesting facts about the glacier during the hike.
I went here with my boyfriend to visit the glacier and an ice cave. First we met the group (around 30 people I'd say) and the instructors helped us with the equipment. Then we all took a bus for around 10 min to get to the departure of the hike and we got divided in groups of 8 people. Fabian was our guide and he was very funny and explained very well how and why there was a glacier here. He even drew in the snow for us to understand better! He was open to questions all along the hike, that was great to learn new things. We first walked on the glacier (quite tricky because it was so slippery we needed to stomp the ice with our crampons to have a grip) to get to the ice cave. It was wonderful. Then we walked to a crevasse and it was stunning as well. Overall an amazing experience with an amazing guide ! Thank you :)
We had a fantastic time doing this in Iceland! Great experience experience and would definitely recommend. The guide Elie was fantastic as well
Our guide Clara was fantastic. Not only was she informative, but very safety conscious. She looked after us all and gave us plenty of time for photos, which made our morning very enjoyable. Oh and the weather was great. Thank you again.
We only visited one walk-through tunnel(“cave”) and majority of time was walking on glacier with about 5-10 degree inclines. We saw other tour operator fetched their participants in 4x4 vehicle all the way to the front of glacier tongue whereas we hike for more than 1km to get near. The highlight of our tour was the guide (Gerald) was very experienced and super patience. The weather was brilliant on the day we visited hence the whole tour experience was great.
Awesome tour with Gerard! The glacier was amazing and we learned a lot. My mom was anxious on the ice and Gerard was so accommodating offering her support throughout! Would highly recommend :)
Once on the glacier views are incredible! Our tour guide Batcha was extremely knowledgable! Was a very well organised tour and equipment provided! Despite the rain the tour was a great experience!
Amazing Ice Cave and Glacier Tour with Claira!! She was so helpful, taught us so much about the glaciers and ice movement. We truly enjoyed this tour. You will be missing out if you don't book this one! #goteamclair #cheers
It is my 45th bday and a big bucket list to hike up to mountain glacier and of course to be in beautiful Iceland ! The 4 hour Glacier and Caving tour was a AMAZING! So amazing my inner child beamed up when I reached to the top! Beautiful experience! Hiking on lava and rocks ; to ice snow glacier . To oversee the Beauty from the top - and hiking down at sunset. Breathtaking. I’m in love ! Michelle, our friendly and knowledgeable guide led the way! She did a great job leading the pack and explanation of the surroundings. Very nice lady ! Book with Trolls.is tours! We did the 2:30 pm tour (4 hours tour) / which is awesome: 1) sunset pictures 2) less crowded from our other group’s nearby 3) a better time slot to really soak it in I am glad they had boots available (no charge ) to borrow . - I got my boots wet earlier in the morning visiting the black beach.
What an amazing experience in beautiful weather. Our guide Jay was very informative and safety conscious but still lots of fun. We were due to do just the easy hike but were very lucky to get upgraded as we were the only two booked on. An unforgettable day!
This was a pretty unorganized experience. Parking was bad. I believe two hours would have made the experience better, four is far to long. You are just walking in the same area for four hours. Pretty exhausting
We took this trip with an amazing guide Clara. The whole thing is surreal and extremely beautiful. Additionally Clara made sure we were all safe (groups of 12) and shared all her knowledge in a great way. We were all amazed by her smile and how polite she was. The tour was perfect and definitely worth the money😍
Great experience, felt very safe even in high winds, lots of information provided about the glacier.
We had the best of time with Eli. She was educational, friendly absolutely fantastic with my 70 y/o mother, especially as I was captivated by the glacier and not paying attention to her. I also want to thank Troll for being so communicative and helpful while we were not sure if we would make it in as we were stopped behind a stuck car for a bit this am.
We did the glacier hike and ice cave in April - so we’re lucky to still see a bit of an ice cave. My mum struggled with the difficulty of the hike - but our guide Philip was incredible. He took time and care to make sure she was okay, and helped encourage her throughout. He was so attentive and this was a once in a lifetime experience for her so we are grateful he did. He was a wonderful guide!
Had an excellent experience with Joao as our tour guide. Joao was funny, engaging, passionate, knowledgeable and very patient. He explained the history and science of ice caves, glaciers, and Iceland which helped us appreciate the landscape even more. The tour itself was a seamless experience and all the staff were friendly. Breathtaking views and definitely must experience at least once in a lifetime.
Had an excellent experience on this ice cave tour and glacier hike! Small group of 15 people. Our tour guide Joao was excellent! He was very knowledgeable and explained a lot about the history of ice caves and glaciers. Very funny, passionate, engaging, and seemed to love his job. Would definitely recommend this activity to others and try other activities with this company.
My friend and I booked this tour and it was such an amazing and fun experience. Our tour guide Joao was beyond fantastic. He made sure everyone had a great time and was safe. Personally I had a hard time climbing down the glacier so he was extra attentive. He was sooo friendly, kind and enthusiastic and definitely made the tour a lot more exciting and enjoyable. His knowledge on the glaciers and Iceland was also helpful in gaining a deeper appreciation of this country’s beautiful attraction. I highly recommend booking a tour through them and if possible having Joao as your guide! You won’t regret it!
The tour was amazing! The place is beautiful. Elias, our guide, was extremely friendly and careful. I recommend it a lot!!
Incredible glacier hike with Elena who was friendly, fun and super knowledgeable. We were in great hands. Great experience!
Our tour guide Michelle made this experience amazing! She made the hike and ice cave exploration super interesting and enjoyable. We had amazing weather and we finished early at the top so Michelle took us on another crevice loop. Would definitely recommend
Omg this truly was the highlight of our holiday. What an experience!! I was beaming from ear to ear the whole hike. Incredibly beautiful and our guide, Ricardo, was so knowledgeable about the area and the science behind the glacier. We had so many opportunities to stop for photos and felt very safe. The tour was very well organised and they even let us go on a later hike when we turned up late! Thank you so much! Would highly highly recommend!
Totally worth it! This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Iceland. Our guide, Michelle, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We learned a lot about the natural environment and everyone felt safe the whole trip. We would definitely recommend this tour (and guide!) to friends.
We took the Skaftafel Glacier hike 4 hour tour with Michelle. It was awesome. Once you get the hang of the crampons, you're really quite able to get around. It's pretty intense though. We had a great time overall, would highly recommend.
This is an incredible experience if you have the opportunity to visit the south east in the winter. We were very lucky to have beautiful clear roads from Reykjavik and back. It’s 4 hours there and back. Most people stay over in Vic or head further east but we were staying in the city for our entire stay. This is a strenuous excursion. You need to be I. Decent shape. You will hike icy conditions for 4 hours. We did the 2pm afternoon into evening hike and had to wear headlamps. They equip you with crampons and an ice pick and helmet. A harness for just in case I assume. It’s breathtaking and exhausting but totally worth it. The company was Troll adventures. I highly recommend them.
