Very nice guided tour of the ice cave with virtually no danger and not too much of a hike at all to see an ice cave. Still involved some walking on rocks for those who aren't used to it but it was still a pretty easy walk with no elevation change

Itinerary
Your journey starts by meeting your guide and boarding one of Iceland’s largest custom-made super jeeps! We’ll depart from Glacier Lagoon and drive approximately 40 minutes toward Breiðamerkurjökull, a glacial tongue extending from Vatnajökull. Along the way, your guide will share fascinating insights about the formation of ice caves, glaciers, volcanoes, and local culture. The caves we visit are 100% natural, constantly forming and changing with the seasons and weather conditions. As such, the cave we explore will depend on the conditions on the day of your tour. We may find ourselves at the edge of the glacier, or we might need to hike a short distance (500-1000m) on the glacier to reach the cave. The walking distance on the tour therefore varies between 1-4 km so all participants should be in good health and comfortable with walking. Before entering the cave, your guide will provide a safety briefing and equip you with helmets and crampons/micro spikes if needed. Each tour is unique due to the ever-changing nature of the glaciers and caves. You’ll witness a variety of stunning ice formations and colors, from brilliant blue to emerald green and even striking black ice.

Ice cave tour was one of our bucket list in Iceland, Thanks for Valentine, our tour guide to make it memorable experience. Total visiting time was reasonable and lucky that our group was not too packed. Our tour guide was amazing, very helpful and friendly. Totally recommended!
Great experience! The 3 hours flew by and the Barbara was a fantastic toor guide. Super helpful to answer any questions. We had enough time to take in breathtaking views in silence, take pictures, and explore the caves. Best for tourists who want a little bit adventure without too much hiking.
Started tour at glacier lagoon and they drove us to the glacier. We felt that the tour guide, Marie, was very knowledgeable and that we were safe under her watch. Views were breath taking. Incredible 5/5 would recommend!
I had to reschedule my original blue ice cave tour due to the blizzard, and I was very pleased that they offered an early (8:20 AM) start time since our group seemed to be the very first to hit the caves that day. Our group also seemed smaller (11 in total, plus the guide; other groups had around 15, plus the guide). Our guide, Daniel, was very informative and friendly. He offered to take my picture at several spots, which was very helpful so that I didn't have to ask anyone else. The "jeep" ride was bumpy but fun. The whole experience was breath-taking, like being on another planet.
I would highly recommend this tour it gives a real experience of Iceland. Our tour guide Valentine made the experience extra special thank you for your time and dedication.
There were two groups of six of us. Our group was guided by Gudrun Maria, and the others went with Barbara. We had a wonderful time. The explanations were clear, explaining (to us Dutch) the unknown world of glaciers and ice caves. We had plenty of time to film and photograph all the beauty. A fantastic day with two excellent guides.
Tour starts in the lagoon, you drive with huge terrain vehicle to the glacier around 30min. Then you hike to the cave around 10min. I like that tour is in a small group, around 10 people, compared with other providers with 20+ people. Cave is beautiful! Our guide was very sweet and funny, also sharing really interesting facts about glacier history, cave formation process etc. He was also very helpful, doing photos of everyone and made us feel very welcome. Genuinely recommended.
Beautiful hike/tour. We went in mid-November and it is cold and windy, make sure to be prepared for that.
It’s an ice cave on the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier at Vatnajökull National Park. Very much experienced company operates the tour. The tour starts at the Jökulsárlón lake parking area. Our time was 1 pm in early October 2024. The weather was perfect. They drove 12 -14 ( a group) together in a van for more than 30 minutes. Then we have to walk for another 10/15 minutes. The walking is treacherous and my wife was unfit for that. Our guide ( an fluent English speaking lady around 25-30 years personal took hold of my wife till the cave. Without her our tour would have been incomplete. She even fixed the spike on her shoes. Then we have to walk on the glacier for 5 minutes before waiting for another 10 minutes till the previous group vacates the cave. It was a lifetime experience. As such the ice is not blue, rather covered by black ash from the volcanic mountain. But the perfect weather with bright sun rays makes the cave appear blue. The time of the day is important otherwise someone get his heartened. Over all our experience was excellent as the sun was at the perfect angle on the glacier.
Our guide Susie was very nice and informative. The hike was once in a lifetime experience. The kids loved learning about what formed the glaciers and how old the ice was that we were standing on. So glad we did it!
Had a great time on the ice caving tour. The guide was very informative and fun. The ice cave was incredible to see and we felt super safe the whole time. Would definitely recommend this experience 😊
I really enjoyed it. A glacier is always something majestic, and I want to thank our guide for making us feel safe inside the cave we visited, and for always taking the time to answer our questions and explain everything clearly. I must admit, I was expecting the cave to be inside the glacier itself, but I understand that the one we visited was likely the best and safest option for the season. Just a small suggestion: in cases like this, maybe consider passing close to the glacier, even if just to touch it. I know it might sound silly, but for someone who has never seen a glacier up close, that feeling still lingers. But overall, congratulations on the experience!
Amazing experience Our guide Iga was super fun and captivating No delays, no issues, everything was even better than advertised (And the cave, of course, was amazing)
Interesting and great experience. Our guide iga was knowledgeable and patient with our questions. She was very helpful and ensure we were safe
We had a fantastic experience on this blue ice cave tour. I wish I could remember our guide’s name, but she was terrific. Knowledgeable, kind, careful, and fun! She brought a spiritual element to the tour, which was appreciated. My only strong recommendation to the tour company is to give clear instructions on where to meet up as a group.
I rate this tour as 2.5 stars. Positives: The tour guides were organized and knowledgeable about the glacier. They took great photos inside the cave for all the groups. It was cool to realize you were in an actual cave made of ice. Negatives: There wasn:t much to the tour. You drove for 40 minutes in a jeep and walked for about 15 minutes to the glacier. Then you put on crampons and walked another 5 minutes on the actual glacier into the cave. The cave was small, so there wasn't much to explore. Although the photos are gorgeous and vibrant blue, in person it's only kind of blue. We got exactly what we paid for, but it was kind of boring. The photos definitely make it look cooler than it is.
I had the most incredible experience with Ice Explorers on their Blue Ice Cave Tour in Jökulsárlón. From start to finish, everything was seamless, professional, and absolutely breathtaking. Booking was straightforward, and the meeting point was easy to find. The team was organized and timely, ensuring everything ran smoothly. We were provided with crampons, which made walking on the ice easy and safe. The vehicle ride to the cave was an adventure in itself, taking us across stunning glacial landscapes. Our guide, Guillermo, was outstanding—knowledgeable, warm, and truly passionate about what he does. He took the time to explain the formation of the ice caves, answered all our questions, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. His kindness and enthusiasm made the experience even more special. The Blue Ice Cave itself was out of this world—a surreal, shimmering, frozen wonderland that felt like stepping into another dimension. The shades of blue were mesmerizing, and we had plenty of time to take in the beauty and capture photos. Safety was a top priority throughout, and I felt completely at ease. The team’s expertise and professionalism were evident at every step. If you’re in Iceland, this tour is an absolute must! Ice Explorers exceeded all my expectations, and I would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
Guillermo was a lovely host—-knowledgeable, kind, set up rock walking trail for us to enter a cave without getting wet. We got to explore 2 stunning caves! Incredible experience—highly recommend
Had a good time. Spent about 15 min or so driving in the large 4x4 vehicle along an easy F road to the glacier edge. Parked with other tours and hiked over some rocky terrain to the glacier, about another 15 minutes. Toured the cave in sections, each taking about 15 minutes for the 3-4 sections. Lots of other tours in the cave at the same time. Got some good photos and it was a nice experience overall. Photos in the ad aren't the same cave that you'll be seeing however.
Very unique experience, a wonderful winter adventure! We learned a lot about how ice caves form, navigating inside the cave was tricky, we were lucky to have Alex as our guide!
The views were amazing! It was truly an amazing experience to walk through and feel the ice cave! Guillermo was awesome and super knowledgeable about the cave and glacier
Our tourguide was fantastic! She was very knowledgeable, fun and made us feel safe. The caves were spectacular! A must see!
We had an amazing experience, getting to experience the wonder of the ice cave, with natural light filtering through with different colors of blue, this plus the short walk across the glacier and learning about the constantly changing scenery was truly a unique experience
Amazing experience from start to finish. Guide Tomas was excellent. We had the early start so got to see the sunrise and also one of the first groups on the glazier and in the cave. Due to ever changing conditions, your very own unique experience. A real must for your trip to Iceland followed by diamond beach! Well worth the long drive from the capital. Great work Ice Explorers!!
Absolutely incredible- best glacier tour I’ve ever been on…and I’ve been on several! Holt and Jesse were funny and informative guides with unlimited knowledge of the glacier and Iceland! They ensured our safety throughout the cave and glacier climb and times it so that our small group didn’t have to wait or feel crowded. Furthermore they were incredible photographers! 10/10 don’t miss
Despite the terrible weather, we had so much fun on this ice caving trip. Considering this is the first time experience for us in doing such activities, everything went so smoothly. Our guide Tasha (hope I wrote the name correctly) was very knowledgeable and helpful. From the ride to the ice cave with the monster truck, helping the participants ready, to explaining every little bit of the experience was top notch. My 9 years old boy enjoyed it very much.
Fantastic tour! We did the 3-4 hour Ice Cave tour starting at 8:30am, our guide Ania helped us move quickly into the cave and built in photography stops, ensuring that each group got several fun pictures in each spot. Because we started the tour at 8:30am, and Ania got us out of the parking lot as soon as she could we beat most of the crowds into the cave. The cave itself was gorgeous, and I attribute our great experience to Ice Explorers.
Amazing experience! The cave is breathtaking and the guides were so kind, they took us some beautiful photos! I absolutely recommend it!
Iga from Ice Explorers was such a nice guide. She took all the time available to create a safe, veautiful and peaceful Ice Cave visiting experience for the whole group. Ont of the most amazing tours I've ever been on. Thanks again! Not 5 but 9999999 stars for this rating :)
Anna was great providing all necessary instructions, safety was always a priority and making the tour interesting and happy for everyone.
What a fabulous experience - from the super jeep ride, to the glacier walk to exploring the ice caves it was a truly memorable afternoon. Tomi was our fantastic guide who cheered everyone along, told us about the glaciers and ice caves and made the experience even more memorable - we all laughed and giggled our way around! And rather than blowing out a candle for my birthday... I blowed the ice out of an ice peg!! The ice caves were incredible - and seeing the formations up close and all the blue was amazing. I can't believe i've walked on a glacier and been inside one!! An adventure i'd highly recommend if you're ever in Iceland! Thanks for an epic experience.
Our guide, Matthew was amazing and knowledgeable! Great experience. Hiked up glacier and the views are stunning.
We had a great time on the ice cave expedition with Anna. She was a great leader and very knowledgeable. She had a great attitude and personality. We truly enjoyed it!
This was hands down the best thing we did while in Iceland! Our tour guide Jessie was very knowledgeable and friendly, and was able to adapt the tour based on current weather conditions and ensure we were seeing the best views and elements of the glacier on that day. We were lucky enough to have the sun come out while we were climbing up the glacier, and the view was absolutely stunning. The ice cave itself was so beautiful and colorful, and fascinating to walk through, and really only one element of the overall experience of being on the glacier. Jessie told us a lot of interesting facts and history about the glacier and the landscape, and always ensured we were safe during the climb. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience!
Our guide did a great job making sure we had plenty of time to visit 2 caves and avoided other crowds!
Totally recommend. Alex was such a great guide. So knowledgeable and good with the teenagers as well. We were able to get under the glacier so amazing.
By far our favorite memory of our trip. At first we didn't really know what to expect, but as we starting our walk we were engaged with the science, history, and beauty of the glacier. We were lucky enough to climb into a Moulin, which is a spiral blue cave in the middle of the glacier that was formed from the melting pattern of the glacier. I have never seen anything more beautiful. Our tour guide, Ilga, was so special and made our excursion that much more unique.
We started not knowing what to expect this time of the year. Within two week, the ice caves are probably gone. An amazing guide, Javier, took the time to explain, took very nice pictures inside a beautifull ice cave. We loved this trip!
This was such an amazing tour that I would highly recommend. One of the coolest experiences of my life! Our guide Holt was incredible and answered all our questions.
We had an absolute blast at the tour this afternoon!! Our tourguide (unfortunately I don‘t remember his name, but he had the cutest dog with him) was super nice and gave us a lot of information about the glacier. Thanks a lot for this experience!!
We absolutely loved this tour! The guides were accommodating and super nice, the one we had was also very very knowledgeable about the glacier and told us so many interesting facts about Iceland, the glacier, and geology in the area. They were very safe, the super-jeep was awesome and we saw wild reindeer on our way to the glacier! Our guide made sure everyone was safe at all times and enjoying themselves, and became our personal photographer lol which was really nice of him. Just a few tips though for the tour: absolutely bring a warm jacket and snow pants or water proof pants, hiking shoes are recommended but you'll get crampons, wear 2 pairs of socks and super warm clothes, and bring a hat and water proof gloves. It's a long tour to be freezing your butt off for not dressing properly. You will also receive a helmet and a headlamp along with the crampons. Heads up though if you have mobility issues this is not the tour for you, it's a lot of uneven walking and some crouching.
The experience was amazing but definitely not worth the price. Our guide was lovely and very informative and the caves themselves were stunning and there was moments for photo opportunities. However, we felt it did not live up to this steep price, we felt it should’ve been cheaper or it should’ve also included a chance to walk on the actual glacier itself more. Additionally, the cave was filled with other tour groups and we were having to wait around for groups to move around before we could actually see anything.
I had such a great time on this tour! The ice caves and glacier were stunning, truly unlike anything I’ve witnessed before. I was lucky enough to go on a tour with Holt, who was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and patient (and great with the camera). Thanks for such a great experience!
Amazing! Our guide, Holt, was super friendly and took amazing pictures for us. Absolutely worth the drive.
David did a great job taking us through the cave and put onto the glacier. He explained how glaciers and ice caves form. He was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions kindly. The ice cave was amazing. Plenty of room to stand up, but some places we had to crouch for a little bit. We didn't mind, tho, it was so beautiful.
Alex was an amazing tour guide! He made sure everyone was safe and provided so much useful information. Would definitely recommend this to anyone!
It was very fun we had a funny guide. And the cave was beautiful. The equipment was in good condition and the guide was very clear.
Glacier mice tour, mass tourism. Long waiting time but still back within 2 hours. Not worth the money.... loved the nice guide
Alex was a great guide for the Ice Cave tour. Super friendly and took his time getting amazing photos Of each individual and group.
