I’ve done many Viator experiences all over the world and this one is among my favorites. Knowledgeable and local tour guy who patiently answers a lot of question about local life in Singapore and large servings of delicious food! You’d never find these places on your own, so going with this tour helps you find the spots. Be prepared for warm weather, but the guide does a good job of navigating out of the heat and interspacing the tours with air conditioned stops. Very much so a worthy experience while in Singapore

The experience starts off with an exploration of Chinatown where you will get to soak in the sights of the Chinatown neighbourhood. Stories will be shared of it's history capturing the struggles of early Chinese immigrants, their trials and tribulations of making ends meet in a rough neighbourhood filled with vices like opium, gambling, prostitution, and death. These buildings still stand today. Old images will be shown where you will see the quick transformation of Singapore's development from the past to the present day. We will also be visiting a hawker centre and get to sample locally popular Singapore Chinese street food cuisines, and at the same time experience the local way of life that has been around for the past decades.
In Little India, you will be brought around the area where the vibrancy of colour from street stalls selling fresh fruit & vegetables, flower garland markets, traditional clothing stores, and incense shops will charm your senses. It is due to these trades and other opportunities that had inspired the early Indian community to move from the original Little India near the old seafront, up here where water buffalos used to roam the swampy area. We will be visiting a hawker market here and get to sample a variety of Pakistani, North Indian & Indian Muslim street food cuisines, and experience the exciting vibrancy of the Indian community having their daily meals here.
Over at the Malay Quarter of Kampong Glam, we will be exploring the quaint streets of old. You will learn more about its people and history, especially how this place came to be and that Malay royalty used to rule the island. Be enthralled by the grand Sultan Mosque that still continues to attract Muslims from all over especially during the fasting period of Ramadan where the grounds are transformed into vibrant street markets. Over here, you will introduced to a dessert at an independently run shop, and at the same time marvel at the colourful graffiti walls that are adorned all over the neighbourhood shophouses.

Gerry is an exceptional guide! Not only did we have an absolutely fantastic food tour of Singapore (with PLENTY of food), Gerry also personalized every aspect of the day, sharing the history of the country, current events and even his family history. He is very engaging and made for a memorable experience. Do not miss this tour - we travel extensively and Gerry is one of the best guides we have had!
This food tour was wonderful. Our amazing guide Gerry was friendly, accommodating and full of knowledge about the history of Singapore. We ate all day! Toured the city by van, foot, mrt and bus. Nothing was a problem, my daughter was spoilt and indulged. The food was amazing, trying some items we wouldn't have otherwise in Chinatown. A restaurant in Little India we would never have found on our own and modern day treats in the Arab area. We came away with very full belly's and a whole heap of interesting knowledge about the history and current Singapore rules and regulations. He also arranged for us to safely be taken back to our hotel. This tour was at a relaxed pace and I would highly recommend.
Gerry gave a fantastic food and culture tour. We had amazing food and drinks. I was picked up from my hotel so I didn’t need to worry about transportation. There were six of us on the tour. We visited all three cultural areas in Singapore, Chinatown, the Indian section and the Malay quarter. Food was plentiful and delicious. Gerry stayed with us all day. I had to head back to my hotel at 4:00pm and he was still with four of the people on the tour answering questions and having a drink. I learned so much about the history and culture of Singapore. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Singapore.
This tour was outstanding, as a small group of just 6, Gerry (our guide) spoke with us not to us. His knowledge, passion and desire for his country and its people was so rewarding to us all. Movement between locations was smooth and an introduction to the ease of public transport in Singapore. AND did I mention the food, WOW. Ubers back to individual hotels was not expected at the end. Gerry really looks after his clients (as he sees them as new friends) thank you Gerry
A must- do tour. Absolutely loved it. Our guide Gerry was exceptional - funny and infornative. The food was amazing and plentiful. Can not fault this tour at all. It is especially good for people on a short stay in Singapore.
Our tour guide was amazing! Kudos to Gerry! Every stop we made was insightful, educational and fun 😁 in all I give it a 10 out of 10
Don’t miss this opportunity to take more than a food tour! The small group, delicious and plentiful food and an exceptional guide (Gerry) will make your introduction to Singapore special. Not your run of the mill food tour….authentic, personalized, educational, and overall , a joy.
The perfect start to your Singapore adventure! I have taken many food tours in many places in the world. This one was tops for the integration of both food and culture/history. Gerry is a fabulous guide, but you will feel more like he is a friend committed to assuring you will leave with a greater appreciation of his wonderful city. You will weave through the vibrant communities of three cultures on foot, by van, and public transportation, with careful and well planned guidance. This tour is a bit more expensive than others…but more than worth the difference. Here are a few reasons. #1 they will pick you up from your hotel… no extra cost. #2 Gerry is committed to only small group experiences. We had 6 in our group, which was perfect for navigating through the streets and engaging conversations at mealtimes. #3 You will have more food and drink than you probably have had on other food tours. It’s not just little samples. And it’s all delicious and very authentic. #4 Gerry will share amazing pictures and share stories that are in context with what you are seeing. #5 You will never feel rushed nor feel like you are being herded around as a faceless tourist. #6 Yes, it’s actually a 5 1/2 to 6 hour tour because you do so much. #7 you will be returned directly to your hotel after the tour. No hidden costs, no upsell, generous offerings at each stop, including drinks…highly recommended if you are looking for a great day in Singapore!
This was my second time taking this same tour with Gerry. This guy is fantastic! I was on a solo trip this time around, last year my wife joined me and we took this tour with Gerry. He truly cares about your experience and genuinely enjoys the connection he makes with the members of the tour group. His efforts help protect and maintain the family-run businesses that represent the multi-ethnic food of the city. While the food of Singapore is the center of attention of this tour, Gerry fosters a welcoming environment by keeping the tour group small (average of four people). This allows him to not only make sure that he can focus on everyone's questions, but the tour participants also have the opportunity to have good conversation amongst themselves while they break bread and drink beer and get to know one another. This just further enhances the entire experience. I've not only learned about Singapore and its food, history and people, I have also learned much about New Zealand and Australia from the people I've met on the tour (and people on the tour have learned much about the US, I hope!). Highly recommend this guided visit!!!!!
Totally recommend this experience. Great food and Jerry is a warm, genuine host. He made us all feel at ease and we loved spending time in our group. What a great way to see and taste the real Singapore!
Don’t look further for a food tour- stop and book this now! My daughter and I were visiting for 3 days in Singapore and Gerry’s tour was the highlight- learning about the food while also being able to ask questions about culture and family life in Singapore, a lesson in history…. All combined with great food and lovely conversation. Don’t miss it!
My brother and I had a good time experiencing the different cuisines and learning about the people groups and historical events that shaped Singapore today. Standing in the places where things happened added to the weight of the stories of the past that we heard. We were in a group with other individuals from different parts of the world also visiting Singapore and it was interesting to hear how these countries differed from or interacted with Singapore's economy. Gerry is a great guide. He pays attention to pacing and makes sure to engage everyone in the group.
This was, hands down, the best experience I have ever had. Gerry has a knack for connecting people and cultures. He was educational, warm, welcoming and fun. The love he has for his job and culture shines through on the tour. The history, with pictures, is great. He connects the group effortlessly so the small group is a family. We had a group of 7 and actually 5 of us went out right after the tour for another drink! If you are lucky enough to get a spot on this tour, do not delay!
Seeing Singapore and its history, development, and rich trade and food communities through Gerry’s eyes and tour experience was life giving. After a few short hours, I felt I had a true understanding of the unique beauty and intentionality of Singapore’s culture. Gerry is a true ambassador of Singapore, and his tour was a gift.
This was a wonderful tour and would recommend to anyone considering doing. Gerry was a great tour leader and very giving off his time and information. I ended up as the only participant of the tour due to travel arrangements for other participants not working out. Very grateful that Gerry did not cancel. The food and experience was amazing. Thank you.
Our first full day in Singapore featured 5.5 hour food tour! Yes, the food was amazing but the history imparted, the communities explored and the stories shared were the real pleasure of the experience! Great job guide Gerry Tan!
Gerry is an enthusiastic supporter of all 3 cultures and is obviously known and loved in each area. He gives so much background info and can easily tailor the tour to your particular interests. After some unfortunates missed their connecting flights, we had the tour to ourselves and had a fantastic day....he is great company! Gerry met us at our hotel and we were driven to Chinatown. We ate like locals, with his guidance, from Michelin listed 'street' vendors. The food was incredible! After an interesting tour we got the train to Little India and part of this tour was a fantastic lunch. We boarded a bus to the Islamic Quarter and finished the tour with a choice of Gelato or drinks. This is honestly THE best way to tour these areas - easy walking at your own pace, really interesting stories and unbelievable amounts of glorious food. We were out for about 6 hours and it just flew. Top tip - no dinner required that evening!!
An absolutely wonderful day with a great tour guide & 2 other fun couples. Gerry had so much food for us at 3 different food stops, each one better than the next. Toured many different areas, picked up by a van, then later rode the underground metro & the transit bus. We absolutely loved this tour & would highly recommend it & Gerry as a guide was one of the very best.

Excellent tour. We learned a lot on the trip. Our guide was top notch. Made a friend. He was very kind and knowledgeable
Best tour ever! Food was phenomenal. You won’t be disappointed. Gerry shared personal stories, vivid pictures, and family heirlooms which made it special. It’s clear he is woven into the community as uncles and aunties reached out as we passed by. Be sure to try the durion.
I try to do a food tour in every new country I visit, and this might have been the best one I’ve done. Gerry was a wonderful guide — not only did he provide us with authentic, local food, but we learned so much about Singapore’s history and various cultures. He was so accommodating the entire trip and let us go at our own pace. And getting to see three unique neighborhoods was a huge benefit — they are all so different. Could not recommend this tour enough!
Gerry did a great job. The tour was much more than described on the website. We not only ate delicious food, but he told about each ethnic region and its history in Singapore. He had photos on his iPad documenting the ethic and history of Singapore. We would highly recommend this tour with Gerry.
A fun trip exploring the food and history of three different quarters of the city. Gerry is a great host and his enthusiasm for his city and its culture is infectious.
This was one of the best food tours my wife and I have taken in all the cities we've been to. Why? Well the food is superb and authentic, but Gerry elevates the experience with his knowledge and friendliness. Every plate we had, I enjoyed. Add in a good group, Gerry and great conversation, we had a lovely day. We were picked up from our hotel, on time. Gerry communicated clearly in advance. Almost instantly I knew he was going to be a cool tour guide. And he was. We started in Chinatown at the Chinatown Hawker Center. We had 8-10 plates passed around the table. You did not leave hungry. We then went to the Buddhist temple and explored the history of Chinatown. This was followed by a similar experience in the Indian quarter. While I am not usually one to eat Indian food, the plants were great. The lamb was delicious. We ended in the arab quarter and incredible gelato, more great conversation. Gerry even helped arrange an Uber for us so we could get to our next journey. All in all with what you pay, you get 1) ample food, 2) a passionate and friendly tour guide (many locals stopped him and spoke to/laughed with him, and I think that speaks to his character), 3) history lessons and 4) everything is just easy. It's a winning combination and why I can say this was one of the best food tours we've been on across 5 continents. Thanks Gerry. Hope our paths cross again.
My adult daughter and I did a food and culture tour with Gerry and absolutely loved it. It was great to eat the delicious food cooked by locals and hear about the history of their businesses. Walking through the local streets was interesting as Gerry explained the history about each place. Gerry's humour was great and he really looked out for his guests. I would certainly recommend this tour, it was a great introduction to Singapore that we are so pleased we booked.
I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in sampling the various cuisines of Singapore, especially if you are traveling Solo, a group tour enables you to sample a lot more dishes than if you were out there on your own. Our guide, Gerry, was fantastic and provided a lot historical context surrounding the communities and the various dishes we were sampling; I would highly recommend him if you can get him to lead your tour!
Gerry was a remarkably personable, professional, and fun guide I definitely recommend. He went well beyond simply showing us around Singapore and incorporated a thoughtful mix of his own personal experiences with digital and physical artifacts to bring their unique history and culture to life. Something else that really set his tour apart from the many others I have experienced was how intentional and creative he was about getting to know his guests and facilitating genuine conversations—not just among the group, but with the locals at the establishments we visited and supported. The result was a tour that felt less like sightseeing and more like getting to know Singapore through its people. Gerry clearly takes pride in what he does, and it shows. Thank you Gerry,… highly recommended!!!
What a fantastic way to get a snapshop of Singapore and 3 fantastic neighborhoods. So much interesting information and history and the food!!! There was so much food. It was all delicious and Gerry explained it all, which was just great. He really demystified the food at the food markets. Was great to get on a bus and a train to get you ready to travel on your own.
Fantastic food tour! Best I’ve ever taken. Gerry was friendly, passionate, and informative. His love of Singapore food culture was contagious. Highly recommended.
Today we had the pleasure of joining Gerry on his Singapore food tour. We can’t recommend Gerry and his food tour highly enough although this isn’t just a food tour as it includes a lot of culture and background from Gerry. Do yourself a favour and book this tour but make sure you go with an empty stomach as there is an abundance of local delicious foods to try.
I went on this tour my first full day in Singapore to get an idea of what food to eat and where to get it. Gerry did an excellent job taking me to places I might normally look over, talking about the history of the different sections of Singapore, and answering all my questions! Gerry is also a very likeable and funny guy. I enjoyed our conversation on music. Would highly recommend as an intro to food in Singapore!
What a fabulous experience! We loved the food and the history of the areas we visited! Gerry was amazing! Highly recommend!
As I sit here after our vacation to Singapore and Indonesia and reflect on our entire trip, I can honestly say that this tour has the loudest voice in my head. It was completely amazing—so well thought out, with the perfect balance of history, culture, city touring, and, of course, food. As others have mentioned, there was SO much food. Our wonderfully small tour group of three genuinely wondered how we could possibly eat it all! But, as others have also mentioned, the leftover food in Chinatown was given to the elders there—all of whom seemed to know Gerry. And Gerry. What can I even say? Such a personable, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable tour guide. He will forever be remembered in our family as a complete Ron Burgundy-level legend. There was literally not a question we asked or a request we made that he couldn’t—or didn’t—answer. After the tour, he sent us a complete guide to everything we had eaten and everywhere we had gone, which was such a thoughtful touch. We actually used it to return to the hawker center and finish our last day in Singapore there. It’s hard not to have an amazing experience when your guide is so genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about what he does. I also feel completely confident that I could text Gerry right now with a random question about something we ate and he’d answer me right back. There should be zero doubt about booking this tour.. What you eat, see, and learn will stay with you long after you leave Singapore. For us, it became one of the most memorable experiences of our entire trip—and one I know we’ll be talking about many years from now.
Great Guide - very knowledgeable about history and the location. Great Food. I recommend it for everybody that likes to try new food.
Gerry was absolutely phenomenal. He is a real local that provides deep insight into the different parts of Singapore. It really shows how much he cares about his community and wants to show it to others. The selection of different dishes was massive. I would say it is the best way to have a crash course on Singapore food culture when you visit. I highly recommend his tour.
Easily one of the best tours I've ever done! From the moment you meet Gerry he treats you as a friend, sharing food, history and stories in Singapore. Everything is taken care of, no food is wasted and the small group size makes for a much more enriching experience. Look no further, just do Gerry's tour, you won't regret it.
Brilliant tour. Gerry was an awesome guide. Great personality and really knowledgeable. The food was amazing and we got to speak to the restaurant owners which was a bonus. The Chinese hawker centre was a highlight.
Seriously—stop what you’re doing and book this experience before anything else on your Singapore itinerary! Gerry was absolutely fantastic. He was warm, personable, incredibly knowledgeable, and made the entire experience so much fun. We explored Chinatown, Little India, and the Arab Quarter, and along the way we got to try so many incredible foods from local hawker stalls. Gerry introduced us to dishes and flavors we never would have thought to try on our own, while also explaining the history and culture behind what we were seeing and eating. What I loved most was that this wasn’t just a food tour—it was a real introduction to Singapore through the eyes of someone who knows and loves the city. By the end of the tour, we felt like we understood so much more about the different cultures that make Singapore such a special place. It also gave us a great foundation for the rest of our trip because we knew what foods to look for and had a much better appreciation for the neighborhoods we visited afterward. If you love food, culture, history, and learning from a local, I cannot recommend Gerry enough. This is 1,000,000% worth booking! 🇸🇬❤️ Don’t wait until the end of your trip—book this at the beginning. You’ll be so glad you did!
Had a wonderful time with Gerry our ambassador on this food tour. He is extremely knowledgeable on Singapore history and was able to incorporate it’s history along the way. The group was small which made the experience very interactive and fun. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed ourselves. Would highly recommended this tour.
Gerry was an awesome guide! He picked us up at our hotel a few minutes early and gave us his undivided attention for the next six hours. His deep, personal knowledge of Singapore’s hawker stalls, food, culture, and history was amazing. I was a little skeptical when I booked this tour, but I have absolutely no regrets. Gerry took us to some fantastic places to eat while also giving us fascinating insight into the history and culture of Chinatown, Little India, and the Arab Quarter. If you want to experience great food while learning about Singapore’s history and culture from someone who truly knows the city, I would highly recommend this tour and Gerry as your guide. He was fantastic!
We learned so much about the history and culture, while enjoying all the lovely food. One of my best experiences of all trips across the globe! 💖 Thank you so much for a wonderful experience, Gerry!
A truly insightful and immersive cultural experience by a knowledgeable, engaging and inclusive tour guide (Gerry). I would do this tour again and definitely recommend it to others. Fantastic day out!
We had a brilliant day with Gerry from the hotel pickup through to the hug at the end of the day. Gerry is enthusiastic about Singaporean food and culture and has a huge respect for both , which he shares willingly. If you want an insight and overview of the peoples who live here, where they live and work whilst eating delicious food this is the tour for you. Gerry is also keen on history and has the most amazing photo collection on his iPad so he brings the history to life. We loved the day. Thanks for looking after us so well Gerry, we'll tell our friends to look you up.
Stop searching and look no further. If you want to take a food tour THIS is the ONE. I have taken food tours all over the world and this one easily rises to the top of the list. You get to sample an unbelievable variety of food and in great quantity. This was a 9:00 am tour…. Please Do Not Eat Breakfast beforehand, you will spoil the experience. Trust me you will not go hungry! Gerry is a very knowledgeable and gracious guide and host. You will not only learn about food in Singapore but also, the culture, religions, history, education, or whatever else you may be curious about. You will not be disappointed…… book it now!
Amazing experience! Truly had the best food tour and got to experience different tastes of Singapore! Book with Jerry! You’ll have the best time!
Don't skip this tour! Fantastic experience led by local Gerry who is professional, interesting, kind, and funny. You'll get to visit three lesser-known neighborhoods, sample delicious food, and learn new things. You'll also get to try the MRT and bus lines. This is a must do!
Gerry has curated an authentic food and culture tour that is all you could wish for - exceptional local food (and a welcome cold beer!), insights into local culture, interesting and often confronting images of Singapore's past, and a genuine passion for his country. Highly recommended.
THANK YOU GERRY! You’re an absolute legend and a wonderful ambassador of your country; you should be so proud of yourself 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻 Your professional, knowledgeable, super friendly and good humoured presentations made the day so worthwhile. Your connections with your community enhanced our tour no end and the food was next level! We went away so full we actually didn’t have dinner. Can strongly recommend this tour.
