Ping had great knowledge. Did find the walking tour quite strenuous for a 75 year old. It was extremely hot though. Lunch stop was great

Itinerary
Enjoy a panoramic view of the city from Singapore's second tallest skyscraper. From here, we'll have a bird's eye view of the Historic District of Chinatown.
Possibly established as early as 1819, making it older than Thian Hock Keng Temple, Yueh Hai Ching Temple is often overlooked by locals and tourists. Once inside this serene temple, you'll be transported to a different world.
Step inside the courtyard of a Chinese boys' school from 1854 and imagine what the area must have been like with school boys learning to read and write, and playing traditional games like chapteh after classes.
Once a temple built by Cantonese and Hakka worshippers of Tua Pek Kong (God of Prosperity) in the 1820s, the quaint building now houses a museum with an intriguing display of what life was like in the area about 200 years ago.
Established in 1821, Thian Hock Keng Temple is the oldest Hokkien temple and likely the second oldest Chinese temple in Singapore. Admire its stunning architecture, built without a nail being used, learn about Taoist and Buddhist practices, find out about the gift from Qing Emperor Guang Xu to the temple, and hunt for the bats which live on the premises.
See if you can spot the last water well in Chinatown, learn about the hills and plantations which used to exist in the area, and find out how Ann Siang Hill got its name.
Discover the truth behind how Club Street got its name, and the high society parties which used to take place at this millionaire's club.
We stop at another Chinese millionaire's club and find out the story behind its interesting window grills.
Come face-to-face with local artist, Yip Yew Chong's second mural on this tour. He has successfully breathed vibrancy into Historic Chinatown with his brilliantly-coloured, often interactive, heritage-themed street art.
Enjoy a traditional soya sauce chicken noodle/rice lunch at this establishment dating back to 1949.
Once the "Raffles Hotel of Chinatown", we learn about the illustrious past of this 1927 building, which now houses a Chinese emporium.
Find out how The Majestic Theatre came into being, and the wealthy Chinese merchant who made it possible.
Established in 1938, Lim Chee Guan endured the Second World War and remains as one of Singapore's best loved brands 85 years on.
Established in 1925, this tea shop with its unique Nanyang blends has close to 100 years of history.
This old school bakery from 1950 sells Cantonese-style mooncakes and other sweet treats year round. We drop by for a taste.
Located along Temple Street where we'll find 3 more of Yip Yew Chong's murals, Lau Choy Seng (1948) is a treasure trove of kitchenware which will inspire you to display your culinary skills.
We take a look at another of Yip Yew Chong's murals, one which depicts his own home in Sago Lane, Chinatown more than 5 decades ago. We also stop to take a look at Lai Chun Yuen Opera House along Smith Street, which was Singapore's first integrated resort, bringing theatre, opium-smoking, gambling and prostitution all under one roof. We learn about the sordid past of Smith Street, where numerous brothels once lined, and the coolies, rickshaw pullers, businessmen, etc. who used to frequent them.
Find out how Sago Lane became known as the Street of the Dead, and what has become of it today.
We end our tour at Fong Moon Kee. Established in 1908, this 115-year-old ointment shop might just have the answer to any aches and pains which may have been nagging you. If coolies and rickshaw pullers lived by their ointments, who are we to question their wisdom?

Ping was such a knowledgeable and engaging guide. She has decades of experience in Singapore tourism and it shows. I got such a good insight into the rich history of Chinatown and surrounding areas. Even though it was hot Ping made every effort to ensure our group was comfortable
We learned a lot about Chinatown and Singapore history from our excellent guide Ping. She put together a 3+ hour tour that gave us an excellent overview of the history of the people, places, races and religions of Chinatown. We visited many temples, food shops, saw street art and other details that we would have missed otherwise, and thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Ping hosted us for lunch at a special soy chicken restaurant. She also took photos of us at many of the sites we saw and sent them to us in Google Photos very quickly after the tour. We were impressed with her, loved the tour, and highly recommend it.
Ping was an excellent guide for our tour of Singapore China town. As a local resident her knowledge and expertise is exceptional. Couple that she takes photos of you at every venue that you visit and forwards you the photos at the end of the tour makes it a memorable tour. I would highly recommend attending one of Ping’s tours
Good guide and English speaking guide.
We really enjoyed the tour. Ping was a great guide, very informative with a wealth of knowledge about Singapore and its cultures and history. She comfortably answered questions that weren’t really related to the tour. Before setting out, she asked everyone on the tour if there was anything in particular they’d like to see covered, and then tweaked it based on the interests of the participants. We’d all thoroughly recommend it.
Great activity to do. Learn about things you’d miss otherwise. Enriched the trip. Great guide and group.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Ping was very friendly and informative. She remembered our names right away and even those of her previous guests that we ran into! Lunch was delicious as well. Even though the restaurant the tour normally goes to was closed for the day, Ping had a backup plan and got us there right before the lunch rush.
Fantastic introduction to Singapore's Chinatown!! Ping was a terrific guide!! Her knowledge of all the nooks and crannies of Chinatown was great!! We will ask for her anytime we return to Singapore for ANY tour!!
Ping was a fantastic guide. She knows so much about Chinatown and took us to such interesting places. It was so worth our time to learn about the area and the culture. Ping was so organized. The 3 1/2 hours went by very quickly. I would highly recommend this tour.
Ping is an amazing local guide. Incredible to hear about Chinatown at a local level and experience temples and buildings that could be missed on a self guided tour. Lots of history mixed with a touch of the modern. Will not disappoint.
An in-depth guide to the history, culture and nuances of Chinatown. She is the very best and shared hidden gems we would never have found on our own! Highly recommend! The lunch was delicious and Ping was the best!
Ping provides an extremely well run and thoughtful tour. We enjoyed our first tour so much (Colonial Singapore walking tour) that we signed up for a second tour in the same holiday! She knows her history and she covers a great deal of ground during her tour while at the same time providing breaks, keeping to the shade and you will be surprised how much you learn and how much ground you have walked! I very much enjoyed the lunch at a hidden local spot (air conditioned too!). Can’t go wrong taking one of Pings tours, highly recommend.
I did the Chinatown walking tour with Ping today. It really was a fantastic experience - in fact I would say the best walking tour I have ever done (and I have done many!). Ping was so knowledgable and kind, she really has such a fantastic and diverse knowledge of Singaporean history and culture. I saw all sorts of interesting spots I would never have come across on my own and learned a lot. I was lucky to have stumbled across this tour, it was a lot of fun!
Thoroughly recommend the historic Chinatown walking tour. This was our 2nd walking tour with our guide Ping, whose knowledge brings the history of Singapore to life. We went to areas that you wouldn't necessarily know about or find on your own.
Comprehensive cultural tour of the Chinatown area with a good amount of walking littered with highlights and a nice lunch.
This was my 2nd walking tour with Ping and again, had a great time walking and learning all about historic Chinatown. She has a wealth of knowledge to share and looking forward to her next tour.
Great experience on the tour. Ping was our guide for the tour and was very knowledgeable, kind and accommodating. Would definitely recommend for solo travellers wanting to join a group tour and who want to know more about Singapore's history.
I booked my tour less than 24 hours before the tour date. Ping, my guide, happily appeared even though I was the only participant. Ping is cheerful, knowledgeable, pleasant, and full of helpful hints. She also likes to answer questions. I liked Ping so much I booked a second tour with her.
Great tour and especially with Ping as the guide for the day. She had great insights to add at all the historical places that we were shown on the route. Learnt lots and enjoyed the authentic Chinese meals on the tour as well.
Our guide Ping ensured that our group saw everything advertised t a great pace. She was highly knowledgeable about Singapore and the Chinese culture, sharing both the immigrant experience and the modern day culture. It was a fascinating delve into Singapore both old and new. She took pictures for us along the way and sent them to us later. She is a very impressive tour guide, and we would recommend this store to anyone who really wants to understand the formation and development of Singapore.
It was an enriching trail to know more about Singapore's history from local communities to significant key players that shaped the culture at a national level.
Ping gave us an amazing tour. Loved all her photo stops. Lunch stop was really interesting - local food. Ping has great knowledge of this area. Recommend you go.
Our guide Ping was an awesome tour guide, very friendly, informative and knowledgeable. Ping and her family had lived in the area so knew the history from experience which was all very interesting. Such a great tour taking you to places you wouldn’t go to or find easily by yourself.
Ping is very knowledgeable. Her knowledge of Singapore's social history gave an unique insight into Chinatown.
Our Tour Guide was an expert on Singapore's Chinatown; she's Chinese and was raised in Singapore. Ping was very well informed which made our Tour very educational, and I appreciated that. Ping was able to answer all of our questions. The included lunch was also tasty. This is an excellent Tour to take if you're interested in the history of Singapore's Chinatown. Thanks Ping.
We had an incredible time on the Historic Chinatown Walking Tour with our guide, Ping. Ping’s knowledge and storytelling made this tour a highlight of our trip. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience the heart of Singapore’s history and culture!
Ping, our guide, was exceptional! She was able to explain the history in a very interesting yet concise way. As well Ping described Singapore today and some of what lies ahead.
Fun little tour with lots of interesting facts that you wouldn’t get to know without Ping. She is an excellent communicator and lovely person. Highly recommend!
Informative and interesting tour with very engaging tour guide, Ping. Enjoyed learning about Chinatown history, culture, and architecture. Because there was so much to cover, the pacing of the tour was pretty quick so didn’t have much time to take photos.
We met our guide Ping and six other people at about 10am for this historic tour of Singapore Chinatown. Ping made us all feel welcome and soon had us getting to know our fellow travellers. Ping gave us an extremely well prepared, knowledgable, interesting and well presented walking tour for over three hours. Ping also gave us all suggestions for food and shopping. We finished off the excellent tour with a lovely lunch.
This tour was exactly what we were looking for. We got an in depth tour with interesting commentary by Ping, our tour guide. Very well spoken and so much information. Very interesting and definitely recommend.
We signed up for the Chinatown Historic walking tour with On-A-Roll Tours and found it to be very interesting and informative. Despite the fact that it was a walking tour on a very hot day, Ping our guide managed to keep us going, finding enough sheltered walkways and breaks in cool temples and air conditioned buildings. The tour was well thought out and well paced. Ping is an engaging guide and easy to spend a few hours with. She does a few different tours and we plan on booking another tour with her when we are next in Singapore
We had a great morning touring Chinatown with Ping as our enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. Her obvious love and passion for her city and country is rounded out with her in-depth knowledge of history. She shares both personal and historical stories to create an interesting and engaging tour. Ping shared many elements of Singapore, of which we were previously unaware. (including where to get the cheapest beer!!) Highly recommend.
Ping, our guide, was very knowledgeable and showed us places that, we as a couple, would not otherwise have found, let alone known about the history of those places. The lunch was simple but very tasty. She has a very pleasant, personable/affiable and smiling manner
We highly recommend the Chinatown walking tour. Our tour guide Ping shared her amazing knowledge and made a very memorable experience for us
Amazing walking tour with Ping as our guide! We have visited Singapore numerous times and taken a walking tour in Chinatown previously, yet Ping was still able to show us places we had not seen before and share information about the area from a true Singaporean prospective. Ping is the first guide we've ever had who always had her phone at the ready to take photos of the group and places we visited, which she shared with us after the walk - a lovely memento of the tour. Would strongly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Singapore.
One of the most informative and well run tours I’ve ever been on, and I’ve done a lot! Ping was a fantastic guide, extremely knowledgeable, very accommodating and great enthusiasm. I highly recommend these tours.
Ping was fantastic! This walking tour was so informative and Ping has a talent for telling stories and teaching about the history of Chinatown. She is also a very considerate person who cares for others. Her knowledge and intelligence shines through.
Loved the history stories of this walk. Ping was so knowledgeable with every area. Different areas and architecture seen along with history of customs
I have taken many walking tours in many different countries and with many different tour guides. I can honestly say that Ping is by far the most knowledgeable tour guide I've had the pleasure of walking with. Our group was large, about 13 people but everyone uniformly commented on how "good" she was at explaining what we were looking at, providing accurate historical information, entertaining us, and making everyone feel included. If you're heading to Singapore, I HIGHLY recommend contacting Ping at On A Roll Tours to see if she is offering any tours during your visit. My Chinatown experience was so successful that I took another 3 tours with her during my trip and was 100% happy with every one.
The stories of how Singapore has grown were really interesting and gave a real sense of the culture The strength of the tour was the passion and knowledge of the guide. The guide was engaging and well informed
Ping was an excellent guide. She was so much fun and very knowledgeable of the area and its history. She had great ideas of where to get the best food. She also took pictures along the way and shared them with everyone.
Lots of historical abd cultural information rolled into a very pleasant learning experience. Ping was an excellent guide.
I love love this tour. Ping was great. Very knowledgeable. Food was great and really went through a lot great location in chinatown
The knowledge of our guide Ping. She was absolutely amazing! We got to visit temples and learn about the history of Singapore!
An amazing tour with PING, her knowledge of Singapore's history and sights seen was first class - such enthusiasm to ensure we all enjoyed it. The size of the tour was small ensuring we could hear her and keep up. I have problems with stairs and PING was there constantly to assist. The pace was nice & easy and nothing was too much trouble. Had a great lunch in an old restaurant too. I highly recommend Ping when in Singapore.
Ping gave a wonderfully comprehensive tour of the back streets of China Town. From temples, to Restaurants, garden tower viewing and everything in between. Eight thousand steps later we felt we had a history tour of early Singapore. That was finished off by a locals lunch. Thank you Ping for your easygoing style.
Ping, our tour guide gave - espacially to me - a new point of view to the Chinatown area. The photo selection she sent us gave a nice chance for a review
Hello, I had solo walking tour of Singapore Chinatown with tour guide Ping of On-A-Roll-Tour. Ping knows a lot of history about Singapore, is very down to earth, fun person to have tour with. We toured a lot of places, then had lunch, and then toured more places before departing each other. Thank you so much Ping
