We had a great time riding around the Katong area and experiencing its fantastic food. Alvin was a great host customising our experience to suit our dietary restrictions. He shared enthusiastically about the history of the area. Well worth it.
Superb! We had the best time on our foodie tour! Our tour guide, Augustine, was knowledgeable, charming and funny. He took such good care of us, feeding us the most amazing, delicious array of foods, and adjusting the tour to accommodate our interests. He shared his own experiences with us and brought Singapore to life for us. He was an excellent photographer too, and helped us to capture our trip. Would most definitely recommend!
Tasted various items at a hawker location, received good historic and cultural information, toured places in Chinatown district and went to a rooftop walkway with fabulous views
Excellent guide and food, i would definitely recommend this tour👌 we had a fab time, more food than we could eat.
HJ was a wonderful guide. He took me and my partner I around the hawker markets in Chinatown and introduced us to all the norms of the hawker food market culture. I’m vegetarian and he found vegetarianised versions of the most famous dishes for me. He sent us pictures afterwards with the names of all the foods we tried. When we were full he took us to a museum and taught us about the history of Singapore. He walked us back to our hotel, very full, with a long list of recommendations and knowing a lot more about Singapore. I would highly recommend this experience - particularly at the start of your trip! It made us a lot more confident navigating the markets.
We booked through Viator, and we were well in advance at the meeting point. After 20 minutes there still wasn't anybody. We contacted the service provider which at first didn't reply. We then contacted Viator who pinged the service provider which eventually replied that 'they hadn't been notified of our booking by Viator.' Strange - since they took our money (and refunded us, granted) but Viator are adamant they notified them. I have a sneaky feeling we were the only ones booked that night and they didn't want to bother. Looking now at the reviews it feels like a dodgy company - some reviews mention a 'bike tour', others a 'crazy rich asians' tour... for what is supposed to be a culinary experience. Buyers beware... You've been warned.
My tour guide HJ was great. Coming from the United States with 12 hours in Chinatown, Singapore and I was looking to learn more about 潮州, he was the right person for me. He was prompt and efficient with my time. The food, views and content of the tour made this experience 5 ⭐️. Lastly, I had trouble with my GRAB app and he was kind enough to talk to a nearby tax driver for me to let him know that I was going to the airport. I will be back again 🙏🏼
What a fantastic way to explore the local Singapore food & culture! Fred was full of interesting information about how all the different cultures have influenced Singaporean food over time. Loved tasting all his favourite foods, and learning about how they are made, at local eateries along the way. Must-do tour when in Singapore!
Our guide Fred was very knowledgeable about authentic Singapore food. We love that we experienced the food at restaurants and stalls that the locals visit. The food was amazing as was Fred’s knowledge of the local area , the history of Singapore and its traditional food. Highly recommend!!
Guide was assigned last minute but he dressed unprofessionally, and spoke in very broken English. He did not present information well. I felt it was a Waste of time.
Ray is a great guy who has lots of cool info on Singapore. We really enjoyed his knowledge of Singapore. But the "food" part of the tour wasn't a food tour. He took us to one place, plopped us down, and started bringing plates and bowls of food. That isn't what food tour people want. We wanted to go to a variety of places, have some nibbles and continue on to the next place, all the while learning about the dish, what's in it, and why we are eating it -maybe something special about the chef/cook. We went to one place, ate a ton of food andthat was it - for the food. He did take us to a very cool Hindu temple and gave us info about Chinatown as we walked around. But for what we paid and what we got in terms of food -the tour was disappointing.
I organised this Food Bike Tour for 14 ladies from the British Association here in Singapore, I myself have been on the tour a number of times and wanted the BA to experience the fun of this wonderful bike tour. Our tour guides Han & Wyman were fantastic and kept us informed all the way round on the local foods we were trying and also some history of Katong & Joo Chiat. I would highly recommend this bike tour especially if your interested in trying local dishes and have a morning to spare! Only advise is, don't eat breakfast beforehand as this will keep you going for a very long time. Thanks again Han & Wyman and look forward to the next tour. Lizzy
Fantastic foodie tour of Singapore with Han exploring and tasting the local sites. Very accommodating for our family as we were late due to flight delays. Our teenage kids loved the bike riding of perfect length and tasty food. Whilst my husband loved the history and cultural engagement. Han was well prepared with ponchos and wet wipes for sticky fingers. Come hungry!
My husband and I had a great time exploring Chinatown and learning more about Singapore history and gastronomy. HJ was very friendly and knowledgable.
Our guide was very prompt and gave us clear instructions on there to meet to start our tour. It was only my Husband and I and it was a great way to experience and learn about Hawker Food in Singapore. Our guide selected so many delicious Singaporean Hawker dishes for us to try at many different Hawker Centres and well as provided interesting information to accompany the dish. He took photos of us with the dishes and then sent them to us after the tour with the names of the dishes included. In addition to our food tour, we also visited The Pinnacle Sky Garden 50th Storey Skybridge which provided fantastic views of Singapore. This is a fantastic tour and great way to see Singapore!
Had a great experience touring the city, the old town, knowing about the Perenakan culture, all while trying amazing "Singaporean" food, which is a mix of Chinese, Indian and Malay flavors. Our guide HJ was awesome. He knew a lot about the city, the culture, the history. He even gave us tips on where to go shopping, what else to see, etc. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see Singapore local-style.
Guide was very knowledgeable. Great food - excellent way to learn about how real residents live. Biking was safe and easy.
We loved our bike tour with HJ he was so friendly and knowledgable. It is a lovely way to see a different area of Singapore which you may not have otherwise visited. There is so much food and all of it is fantastic! It's a really great introduction to different cultures and foods of Singapore and I would highly recommend this tour for new visitors to singapore as well as something different for those returning.
Great, kind professional guide who guides you effortlessly and with a smile through different parts of Singapore. You will be very very full w great food and you’ll know what to order in any hawker center and why. All questions are answered and a lot about Singapore is learned. Treat yourself to a kind and professional guide. If i am to visit Singapore again, i will book 2 tours with this guide. Loved it!
One of the best tours we have ever taken! Sampling a lot of great food, and learning about local history. Our tour guide was HJ, and he did an amazing job recommending foods, and places to visit in Singapore. He was very knowledgeable on the many areas we visited. He promptly emailed the numerous pictures that he took of us on the ride, and gave us info on other places to explore. Overall a great experience. Thanks again HJ!
My boyfriend and I are only in Singapore for two days and definitely recommend doing this bike tour! If you like to eat delicious food, be outdoors and learn about the culture this is the tour for you! HJ was very knowledgeable with the area we biked through and took many pictures for us. We got to the meeting point 20 minutes early and he was already there, ready to go. HJ made our visit to Singapore very enjoyable! Thank you so much for the amazing time!!
Having been to Singapore 4 times we wanted to do something different this time. Thoroughly recommend this tour & HJ, our guide, was excellent. We tried so many local foods that we would never have done on our own & enjoyed all of them. He took us to places we had not been too & gave us a brief description of the history etc. Would highly recommend this tour & heads up - don’t eat breakfast beforehand!
A top tour which I highly recommend. We had lots of stops, both for food as well as information on different local areas where we’d stopped and heard about some of the history too. HJ was a great tour guide. So accomodating. The pace of the tour was great. We cycled on the road and footpath. An easy flat ride and not scary as far as feeling safe cycling on the road. More footpath cycling than on the road. We had a great group too and it was lots of fun. A must do :)
I found the tour a lot - our guide HJ was a lot of fun, and he made sure we had a great experience. Being a solo traveler I didn’t know what to expect in terms of company, but everyone else in our small group of 5 was great to hang out with! I’d definitely recommend this tour if you have a few hours to kill in Singapore (Also, make sure to skip breakfast/lunch before!)
We really enjoyed this bike tour with local guide HJ - sightseeing by bike, learning history about Singapore and it’s culture and of course trying lots of local food. HJ is great and we can highly recommend this tour. Only thing that might be worth telling you is the tour finishes at approx 1pm (wasn’t mentioned here)
We've done several bike tours in lots of cities world-wide, and this one was one of the best! Our tour guide, HJ, met us at the metro station and was actully early. We were the only 2 people on the tour, so we were able to get started right away. He took us to a wet market, to several different temples, a few different hawker centers, the beach, and several other sites. He showed us parts of Singapore we never would have seen on our own. We stopped at least 4 or 5 times for bites of food to eat, and were -stuffed- by the end! If you do this tour, do NOT eat breakfast before going! All of the food was very local, and not touristy. HJ explained bits of the history of Singapore to us, as well as showed us the different influences present in the food and culture. He took several pictures for us along the way, and we had them all on our WhatsApp account before we even got back to our hotel. Great food, interesting sites, excellent info on the local area, and an educated guide--all the makings of a fantastic experience!
This was an amazing tour. HJ messages me before hand and the instructions were very simple to follow and we easily met him at the station. HJ is friendly, readily sharing his knowledge with us and answering all our questions. This was a small group just the two of us and so made the conversation and tour very easy. It was so interesting riding through Katong and not on the main roads. We were able to see the real Singapore beyond the touristy spots. The bike riding was easy and not taxing, particularly as we stopped often to eat. HJ bought food for us that was cooked authentically and locally. The food was fresh and delicious. Don’t have breakfast before you go as you begin with a traditional breakfast. This was a great experience which really enriched my visit to Singapore. I would highly recommend this to others who are looking beyond the traditional tourist tour
With HJ as our guide we enjoyed our tour so much. HJ was very knowledgeable on everything. We learnt so much. Plenty of food! Great valve for money. Easy to book. I would highly recommend this tour. Thank you HJ 👍🏽👍🏽
This is such a fun morning sampling Singapore Hawkers food and seeing the Malay area of Singapore too on a bike. HJ was a great guide, amusing and the ride well paced. Make sure you don’t have much breakfast as there was a lot to sample. The architecture was also very interesting and the temples on the way round. The girls who were also on the ride were great fun. This is the second bike tour I have done with Jeff Wee company. I thoroughly recommend it. Bring on the next one.
Me and my wife had the luck to be the only two riders with the guide, HJ. Together we had a 4,5 hours awesome tour during which HJ supported us with interesting facts and history. But it was also a food tour and we stopped at several traditionell eateries with different ethnic food. Every dish we got was superb and we visited eateries we wouldn't have found by ourself. Thank HJ for a great day. We have done bike tours in several big cities but this tour with HJ, was one of the best we have joined.
An amazing way to see the locals Singapore. Delicious food & beautiful sights this tour was a highlight!
HJ was a fantastic guide. He takes such good care of everyone on the tour making sure we keep up (slow biker here) and takes pictures for us. The stops are personalized you can tell this is a passion for him not just a job he really enjoys it. Make sure that everyone is well fed so come hungry. Loved the history and the unique stops that most places wouldn't notice. We even found some key places to come back to. The followup was great. He was exceptional in helping us with another "sister tour" get in touch because we only had WIFI access. Would recommend it to everyone. You feel like a friend who just came in town to visit.
We had a great morning riding through a part of Singapore that was totally new to us. Our host HJ was waiting for us with our, well maintained, bikes and we set off. We visited markets, food halls historic houses and temples. Riding through some historical areas and looking at the changing architecture added extra interest to our tour. Although it was the food that was the highlight! We enjoyed a lovely range of local foods and HJ explained about the ingredients and origins of each dish we tried. He also helped us to understand the history of each area and how the food halls and markets developed. We were completely full after the tour and guests probably should start with an empty stomach! We can’t recommend this experience highly enough it was fantastic.
With such an engaging and knowledgeable host you will not fail to feel engrossed in the history and culture of local Singapore. The food is excellent and delicious with such a large range in types. Well worth the trip!
HJ is a wonderful tour guide. He really knows his history and his food and boy is there a lot of food. The pace of cycling is nice and relaxed and there is plenty of time to enjoy the sights. A major highlight is this tour took us to an area we would probably never have gone to and we tried food we would never have tried. All of the food was wonderful! Be prepared to get hot and drink lots of water! As an added bonus HJ is a lovely man and a handy photographer! I highly recommend this fun, informative and slightly crazy tour😊
Definitely go on this bike tour if you are keen to experience authentic Singapore. HJ was an amazing guide- very knowledgeable about the history, culture and religion in Singapore- not to mention he texted me to ensure we met at the station. We felt very looked after and he took us to multiple food markets, historical sites, temples and more. Just make sure you go hungry because you will have the opportunity to try so many cuisines along your journey! All of the food is included in the tour - it’s a great value!
HJ was the perfect, friendly, caring and knowledgable guide. Highly recomendable if you want to get a taste of authentic Singapore and it’s cuisine. We loved HJ’s explanations of history, culture and religion in Singapore and it was a pleasure to chat to him about daily life as a Singaporean. It was great to see the market and learn about the ingredients that went into the delights we sampled - go with an empty stomach to make the most of every food stop. Thanks HJ, we had a fantastic time!!!
HJ was our guide for this 4 hour tour. He is very knowledgeable about Singapore history and blends in beautifully throughout the tour. We visited temples, beach and many Hawker centers all authentic without any tourists!!! Food ranged from breakfast, fish, chicken, curry puffs and desert. Be aware that you will eat a lot of food as we stopped at more than 6 stalls. Kids and wife loved it!!! Must do tour. Off the Beaten track and a true taste of Singapore!!!!! Thanks HJ!!!! Brad
Family tour with 11 and 13 year old. All sorts of foods sampled which we would not have tried if left to our own devices. Tour also included history and cultural information. Highly recommended if you have a morning free.
We were visiting Singapore on a stopover and this tour was such a great choice to see some of the city I’ve never seen before, try some great authentic food and learn some history. The pace is perfect and some cycling to make you hungry for next stop. Cycling around was a great option as we got to see a lot. Loved the hawker markets and feel more comfortable in what to order for the next days with the guides recommendations. Would definitely recommend this tour for anyone coming to Singapore.
First time in Singapore! Was here for a work trip, so I knew that I wouldn't get much of an opportunity to explore the local areas much on my own. The Katong Bike Tour seemed like a great way to explore the amazing food scene I'd been hearing about along with a little bit of history and culture, and it did not disappoint! HJ was a great guide - very knowledgeable, very considerate (he always had us wait in the shade when we were waiting to cross the street to avoid the hot sun), and good heavens he gave us a lot of food! HJ was great about explaining the various cultural influences that came together in the architecture of the Katong area as well as the food, and gave me an appreciation for what Singapore was like before all the high rises. The food is amazing, and the company couldn't have been better. Thanks HJ!
Fantastic tour with very knowledgeable guide HJ who knows where to go for the best dishes in town. Interesting facts along the tour and sampling all the local dishes was a real treat. Don't start eating too much from the beginning; it's a long tour and the best dishes come last so leave so space. HJ was fun, energetic and well informed. We did the tour in the afternoon (on our resquest). It was hot and sticky but HJ did very well coping with the heat and guiding us to some cooler places every now and then. It was the highlight of our trip to Singapore to actually experience local food in local places. Thanks HJ
If you love food, culture, and history, this a bike and food tour not to be missed! Especially for those visiting Singapore - for the first time or for the nth time - there is still much to learn about the island nation's food - and the interesting history of the various waves of immigrants that inspired them. We've been living in Singapore for more than a decade, and yet there was something novel about learning new things on this tour, as well as rediscovering things we thought we knew from a fresh perspective. From the mouthwatering perfect roti prata and nasi lemak in Geylang, to nyonya fare and the original laksa (and it's not preceded by a number!) at Katong, to enjoying various kueh while visiting Indian temples, Buddhist pavilions, and Peranakan shops, and resting and enjoying beautiful historic seaside apartments, we can't recommend this tour highly enough! HJ was the perfect tour guide - and it was doubly delightful as we were able to cover more ground in 4 hours on his trusty bikes. Thanks for the experience HJ - this is one way we'll be sure to encourage family and friends to see Singapore from now on.
What a great tour! Our guide shared his knowledge of Katong as we ate our way round trying local food. Great experience and great value for money. Thank you HJ 🚴♂️ The tour was the highlight of our trip 👍👍
My family and I had a great tour with HJ. We were able to try a number of Singaporean examples of classics such as Laksa, Chicken Rice, Cendol, Popiah, Otah, Nasi Lemak and Roti with curry and others. HJ was friendly and knowledgeable. The bicycles were folders and were up to the task.It was a relaxed pace but rememeber to bring some water to keep hydrated if you are not accustomed to the heat. Overall a great value tour to be introduced to Singapore cuisine.
HJ was a very knowledgeable guide who took us to a fantastic variety of authentic Singaporean eateries. We loved the stories and ate a lot of very tasty dishes. We would recommend him highly as he was friendly and fun. 😊😊
This tour is a great way to get a local’s perspective on street food. The guide is very friendly and accommodating. He selected some local dishes that we had been meaning to try, as well as some we had never heard of. The tour is in a residential area with an interesting history that he explains along the way. There are some really lovely bike paths, and it’s also really nice to get some exercise in between stops. All in all, a great experience that I highly recommend!
My experience with HJ has been a blast! The tour was carefully curated taking me to places off the beaten path, into neighbourhoods where I would never expect to have such a rich history of culture and communal festivities. If you would like to explore more about the Peranakan culture in Singapore, this tour is sure to please you with its gustatory delights of Laksa and other Peranakan cuisines to insta-worthy visual appreciation of eclectic shophouses. To top it off, nothing beats cycling along breezy East Coast Park after all the sumptuous food that I got to try along the way.
Today we did the bike and bite tour, great way to see the sights that are off the radar for most tourist, That was one of the many great things about this tour. Comfortable bikes that are easy to dismount that push along effortlessly. Our guide HJ was outstanding and considerate, what a way to mingle with the locals at their favourites!! We also toured local markets. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would do it again. Thanks for a great insight to Singapore HJ!!
