Our whole trip to Singapore was great, but the highlight was definitely the street food tour with John Tan. John was a wonderful guide whose knowledge of the history and culture of Singapore was superb. John very kindly customised our tour when I mentioned that I was interested in street art. He showed us some amazing places and knew the stories behind these historical locations. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see the real Singapore. Carrot cake is now my favourite Singaporean dish!

My guide was John Tan. He was very knowledgeable about Singaporean food, culture, and history. We ate a variety of dishes and now feel comfortable navigating a hawker center!
My tour guide was John Tan. It was a great experience. He is very knowledgeable, kind, and have a great sense of humor, we learned a lot about the past history of Singapore. We ate several dishes at the hidden gems Hawkers. I strongly recommend this tour and this guy!! Thanks a lot!!!!.
John Tang you are the best tourist guide in the world. The knowledge and your kindness it was top o the top. Thank for guided us on this trip, you may our stay in Singapore more enjoyable. The food was great and the hidden gems Hawkers you showed us were right on the spot 👌 😋 😉 and the walk around the river walk was a plus x10 that was amazing 👏 we loved the entire time under your guidance. A plus tour that I strongly recommend to any one that would love to visit Singapore. Thank you very much !!!
John Tan was a great knowledgeable guide. Huge knowledge on cultural history of Singapore. Took us to a number of stalls we would not have been brave enough to try otherwise.
John Tan was an amazing guide, so much knowledge and a customised tour based on our interest in history. Amazing food across so many different cuisines. Would definitely recommend.
We had a fantastic tour with John Tan. He mad brilliant food choices and gave us so much interesting information about Singaporean vulture and history. I could not recommend this enough!
Our guide John Tan was amazing! We learned so much and tried so many dishes we had never had before.
Very disappointing as we could not connect with the guide despite being at the meeting point well before time. Meeting time was 1100 and we were there 1045 onwards. The guide advised that he was there but seemingly made no attempt to make himself known to us. Also, as we had no wifi/mobile connection, there was no way to communicate. Very disapointing.
Total rip off Went for 1 hour and 5 minutes - advertised as 2 and a half or 3 Can’t quite remember which. Only 1 location - advertised as 3. Given incorrect information re contents of dishes - eg re seafood, chilli, chicken or no information at all Eg asked if dish had chili , fish, chicken and told no when did Asked the difference between a number of dipping sauces and only told names, of some , not all and no other info Eg when asked what the difference was between the laksa we were given and new dish called chicken curry that appeared and tasted exactly the same to us only with tofu puffs on top and asked if herbs and spices or contents were different told on was Singapore dish and given no other information Expected to all eat out of a single dish / serving for noodle , all to share the one soup bowl etc -for each soup , worried about catching germs from another traveler - no individual plates to serve out a portion into Guide kept looking at their phone and only gave information when quizzed. If I could work out the refund process I would ask for one . I would be grateful if the tour company would contact me to further discuss my experience We had read a number of positive reviews for this tour and were so disappointed - our experience was very different to that reported by other groups
This was a great experience and William was a phenomenal guide, we had a smaller group, so William took us to a local neighborhood spot and really made sure that we understood the context and history of all the food that we were eating and the mix of cultures that they come from and it made a huge difference in how we were able to enjoy the food. We had nine courses between drinks and actual plates and it was so much food! You won’t leave hungry
Fantastic experience with our wonderful guide, Gene. Gene shared his knowledge of the local food scene and culture with friendliness and humour! Definitely would recommend and didn’t leave the tour hungry!
David was a wonderful tour guide, we enjoyed his selection of food and more importantly enjoyed talking with him and learning about Singapore. Thank you, David for a wonderful time!
Amazing food tasting tour. Thx to William who delivered flawlessly on history lessons and the selection of dishes. Can only recommend to all foodies.
We had a fantastic day with Ron as our tour guide! We enjoyed delicious local food, saw interesting sights, and learned lots of fascinating facts. Ron is a great guy, and we highly recommend him!
Great experience with food and fun conversations!
John was very knowledgeable and kept the tour moving very briskly. I would definitely recommend for anyone wishing to learn about singaporean culture history and especially food!
William was a wonderful host. We went to a local neighbourhood where he gave us such a detailed comentary of the history of Singapore linking his stories into the foods he had chosen for us to sample. The food was very plentiful and mostly new to us. It was a real cultural experience leaving us wishing we could import many of the local ideas into the minds of Australian politicians. We highly recommend William as a local food tour guide.
Had a great tour with Kristine. Since it was only myself it was really quite nice. She made it feel so comfortable. It was a nice mixture of food and culture! I learned quite a few things about the history etc of Singapore and tasted some great food! It’s the best of both worlds. Try something you normally would not and learn a little of history and culture of Singapore
Raymond Teo was a great guide. Very knowledgeable. I was the only one on this tour, so had a personalised experience. Food was great, tour was excellent. Would recommend.
We had John Tan as a tour guide! He was excellent! Learned a lot of history and ate a lot of diverse food. He had an incredible amount of knowledge about Singapore and history from around the world!
We had an amazing food tour in Singapore with John Tan! He was an exceptional guide who was knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly well-organized. He introduced us to an excellent selection of delicious food while sharing fascinating insights into the history and culture of Singapore and its connections to the rest of the world. John had a wonderful way of explaining everything clearly and concisely, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. His stories and history lessons gave us a much deeper appreciation for the food we were tasting and the places we were visiting. Thank you so much, John, for such a memorable experience! We learned so much and truly enjoyed every moment. We only wish we could bring you along for the rest of our travels! We highly recommend John to anyone visiting Singapore!
My tour guide was John Tan. He was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He made sure we were comfortable and adjusted the itinerary as needed. We learned so much ! Would recommend.
My husband and I did a food tour with MJ that was amazing! Not only was the conversation great, but the information learned from the Chinese Heritage Museum was fascinating and great context for the food that came second. MJ chose some great options and we left feeling full and satisfied! Would highly recommend this tour!
A Wonderful Singapore Food and Cultural Experience with William! We had a thoroughly enjoyable food tour of Singapore with William, who turned out to be not only an excellent food guide but also a remarkably knowledgeable about the history of Signapore. The tour gave us a wonderful introduction to Singapore’s diverse culinary traditions, reflecting the country’s Chinese, Malay, Indian and Peranakan influences. In fact, we are now convinced we could probably explain the history of Singapore with all the ins and outs, the secrets of perfect coffee (palm sugar for caramelsation) and the inegration policy of the government (which is very intresting- school-classes, housing complexes and public works etc. , must reflect the average % of the population multicultural background - all to achive harmony!) . For the food samling we were taken to a local hakkars with 100s of small food vendors- with people everywhere in a dance to bay, find a place to sit, eat and clean up after yourself. After engaging in part of the dance, we could finally sit as William disappeared and reappeared with the local dishes- a total of 7 dishes ( that’s s 7 lunch portions for 2 people….) 1. Kopi O / Kopi – Traditional Singaporean coffee, served black or with condensed milk. All we were dreaming about at this stagre was cold water, and suddenly we has hot coffe- but William has a reason… 2. Chinese Carrot Cake – A delicious savoury dish made from radish and rice flour, cut into pieces and fried with eggs and seasonings. Despite containing no carrot whatsoever, this was the best carrot cake without carrots we have ever had. And in two versions! 3. Roti Prata – Indian-style crispy, flaky flatbread, typically served with curry. Delicious, comforting and dangerously easy to keep eating.Pace youself here! Too easy to fill up on. 4. Lontong – A traditional Malay dish of compressed rice cakes in a rich, mildly spiced coconut vegetable gravy. Deserved more space in my tommy, so good- but so little space left… 5. Grass Jelly Drink black and white version– A refreshing local drink containing soft, dark herbal jelly which felt like gelly-worms im the straw.., but tasted wonderfully refreshing. 6. Chicken Rice – Singapore’s famous Hainanese chicken rice, cooked twice to tenderize the chicken with fragrant rice and powerful and purchased at a Michelin-recognised vendor. 7. Fried Kway Teow – Flat rice noodles stir-fried with ingredients such as eggs, bean sprouts and savoury sauces. At this point, our stomachs asked for mercy—not another dish, please! We could hardly walk to Singapore City Centre for an introduction to the local history. Fortunately, William was an excellent guide, and the promise of dessert gave us the strength for a tour of the Singnapore City Center, which, with Williams knowledge delivered! And finally the dessert in a local food court in Chinatown- 8. Chendol – A traditional Southeast Asian dessert of shaved ice, coconut milk, palm sugar and green pandan jelly. Finally- something cold, but still a little weird- shaved ice with different colur toppings on. I can see this being a kids favorite 😍 What made the experience particularly memorable, however, was William himself. Between the main dishes and dessert, William took us to Singapore City Centre, where the tour became an unexpected and fascinating journey through Singapore’s history over the last 200 years, as well as its vision for the future, including total recycling and energy-supply independence. His explanation was exceptionally detailed, covering the country’s development and historical background with impressive knowledge and genuine enthusiasm. He brought the history to life and made it easy to understand how Singapore’s different cultures have shaped the country we see today. William was friendly, attentive, informative and clearly passionate about both his country and its food. He never made us feel rushed and was happy to share his knowledge throughout the experience. He also showed remarkable patience as we attempted to keep up with both the walking and the eating. We came for the food, but left with a much deeper appreciation of Singapore, its people, its history and its culture. We would highly recommend this tour, and especially William as a guide, to anyone visiting Singapore. It was a truly rewarding combination of excellent local food, history and cultural discovery.
Aaron our tour guide was fabulous! He explained every dish we were eating snd explained his life in Singapore. He was courteous and thoughtful.
Thanks for a wonderful evening, hawker food was excellent.Justin also included some historical facts. Highly recommended Susan and Dennis Scotland
We had a fabulous morning on the food tour with Kristine. Arrangements to meet were easy Kristine was in touch beforehand by what’s app and on time. The tour was really informative on the history of Singapore and its culture with food ( and lots of it ) woven in it was a great introduction to the city for us. We would highly recommend.
Christina was excellent! Varied food to taste of different cultures in Singapore
The guide is very knowledgeable
Raymond Teo our guide took care of our special requests and was an interesting engaging conversationalist. Recommended!
Such an amazing experience with Gene today. We learnt so much about the food, history and culture of Singapore. Gene was a fantastic guide and went above and beyond our expectation and was so very helpful with our stay here in Singapore. Thankyou! 😊
Raymond Teo was an great host. He met us at our designated pick up location and immediately arranged a place for us to dine in the Maxwell Hawker Center. He got our drinks and the food started to flow. He selected a good variety of traditional foods from Singapore. The food was so delicious. Raymond explained each dish as presented and shared the history of the dishes. There was so much food to eat that we couldn't finish it all. The best part is we were exposed to foods that we would have never tried. Raymond was an excellent host. I highly recommend his food tour.
Our guide Gene D'castro was brilliant! He went above and beyond to make sure our expirience was totally spectacular. The food was delicious and I would say that this is a must do expirience for anybody who wants to expirience Singaporian street food, as my family and I would have had really no idea which dishes to try first. Thankyou so much to Gene! We all had such an amazing time 😄
Gene was absolutely amazing! We got had such an amazing time eating local food and learning about some of the history as well. Definitely come with an empty stomach, because all the food will be delicious 😋
John Tan was a great guide, he communicated well before the trip and we enjoyed 3 hours of food and knowledge about Singapore. We went to 2 Hawker Centres in the Chinese area. Tried plenty of food and drinks. We very much enjoyed learning all about the history of Singapore too!
Fred was superbly knowledgeable and gave background on every thing we tasted. Great value as well as we were beyond full. Not only did he educate us on food culture but he also willingly shared the history of the island and what the future plans are. He was so charismatic and funny. We had a great time and would recommend this food tour to anyone. Fred far exceeded our expectations.
Raymond was an amazing guide. We tried a wide variety of food, including one that had a Michelin star. He shared his knowledge about the food, as well as Singapore in general, and answered all our questions. Raymond also took us to Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. We definitely recommend this tour 😊
Raymond was exactly what we needed on our trip! Fabulous service and efficient. Managed to grab us some Michelin chicken rice among many other treats 👍
A great experience, we tried lots of dishes and visited three different Hawker centres. Gene was super helpful, even getting us on the right train back to our hotel at the end of the tour! He was very knowledgeable and we learnt lots about Singapore's history and culture. Highly recommend this tour.
Wow! What a great tour! William took us to local eateries that we never would have found let alone tried. We had 9 different foods and 2 different drinks at each place. Not only was he engaging on the food, but also a great overview of Singapore. If you’re thinking about a food tour of local foods, he is your guide.
Raymond Teo was such a great guide. He chose a great variety of delicious food for me to try and even told me all about Singaporean history. I definitely recommend him highly!
Our guide was John Tan. He was excellent with a deep knowledge and understanding of the different cultures and foods of Chinatown and Singapore. We greatly enjoyed his tour. Felicity (and Stuart)
Our tour guide was John Tan. John was a terrific guide and host. A real gentleman of great knowledge of Singaporean and local ethnic history and culture. We hugely enjoyed his tour and wonderful selection of hawker dishes of original Chinese foods. A complete evening of great food, lively and interesting conversation and a cultural experience in the Chinatown area. Thank you so much John Stuart and Felicity
John Tan our guide communicated in a clear and timely manner before the food tour. Making arrival at the meeting point easy. The tour itself was more than a food experience. We are left with an amazing insight in to the history and cultural growth of Singapore. The food and drink we were presented with throughout the tour was amazing, very filling and very tasty too.
John Tan was an excellent guide! He was great at communicating the meeting place before the tour. We enjoyed 3 hours of his company where he shared with us lots of history and culture of Singapore along with some great and interesting food from the Hawker markets. A real mix of food and drink which gave us many different flavours! Would highly recommend this activity as it gives a real insight into Singapore. This is our first visit to Singapore so we learned a huge amount. Thankyou so much John!
The tour of the hawker stalls was great. Christine provided a great deal of context regarding the development of the area and how it operates.
I was the only guest on this tour, which made it a more personal experience. (On similar tours I have done in other cities I have been always been with at least 5 other people) Aaron was able to tailor the tour to my preferences. He also insisted on collecting me from (and returning me to) my hotel. The tour was conducted on foot and using the MRT which would have been very helpful for visitors who perhaps hadn’t used that form of transportation yet. I thought the tour might have been a bit of a “food-crawl” from one food vendor to another. But instead Aaron sat me down at a table in the hawker market and brought a selection of dishes to me one or two at a time, like an adult bird feeding their chick. Which was fine by me. Being a Singaporean, Aaron imparted much interesting local knowledge to me and provided great advice for other activities. I would therefore have no hesitation in recommending this tour and especially this guide to anyone visiting Singapore.
Very nice food tour with different food options. Also nice way to explore parts of the city. Our guide Kristine was lovely!
William was above and beyond what we expected. So much information about the history of Singapore so much food and the origins of the dishes we tried.
