A Taste Of Singapore: Hawker Center Private Customized Food Tour

We had a very nice experience with Ronnie- he is very knowledgeable on Singaporean history and brought us on a great food tour!

If you like a taste of authentic local culture, local food, this is for you. Our guide, Mr Ang, was not only a walking encyclopedia of hawker food, he was also very funny. He had a lot of surprises! He will take care of your familty.

Food tour is almost a misnomer for this tour. I had chosen an early start so some of the places were closed. HJ our guide was able to compensate by changing the itinerary on the fly. The food choices were great and plentiful. The biggest issue is not being able to finish it all, if you want to have room for all the options. What the highlight of the tour was for us was the detour to see the Singapore City Gallery. HJs insights and knowledge was perfect as he was able to highlight the major milestones of the development of Singapore. Feedback for Viator the link on how to get to the meeting point takes you to Chinatown MRT exit E rather than the Exit A which is where the tour was scheduled to start from. Again HJ had sent me his number and we were able to clear up any confusion. Overall was a great introduction to Singapore for us with a great guide who was down to earth, informative and a genuinely nice person.

The foods are nice and amazing

I had an amazing time with William. I feel like I got a better idea of the history and culture of Singapore and got to eat some amazing food along the way. The communication was clear before hand. You can tell that he loves to share Singapore with visitors. I am so glad a paid a little extra to have a one on one tour rather than join a pre-existing group. Thank you William!

We had a fabulous time with Ronnie. He was great at introducing us to a variety of Hawker stalls in Chinatown and had some incredible food. We never would have been able to find these great places ourselves and glad we had Ronnie there to show us. He also gave us a really good insight into the culture and history of Singapore. This food tour is one of the best tours I’ve experienced. Stefan is both knowledgeable about the variations of street food, the history of the city and attractions. We are so thankful for our experience. The Laska was chef’s kiss.

What a shambles! We arrived at the designated meeting point 20 minutes early and told our guide by WhatsApp we were present. Some 20 minutes after the scheduled time, the guide sent a WhatsApp cancelling the tour. We then had a struggle to get a refund from Trip Advisor. Use with caution.

Great introduction to Hawker Centers and Chinatown History The Hawker Centers can be overwhelming for a newcomer. We signed up for this tour to get an introduction. John was a fantastic Tour Guide! He showed us several large Hawker Centers and treated us to tastings from a few great ones. He explained how the Michelin food rating worked for Hawker Centers and pointed out some of the very best ones. He also helped us to learn about etiquette and gave us many tips for getting the best food. John also shared a lot of information about Chinatown. This included the immigration of various ethnic groups. He added i formation about his family history, which was great! He was professional, extremely knowledgeable, and made it a fabulous experience! Thank you. Jobn!

We had an incredible time on our tour with Stefan. It was our first night in Singapore so it was a great way to learn more about the city and experience some delicious food. Stefan was very accomodating, finding alternative options to suit our dietary requirements. Highly recommend a tour with him.

Ron was very knowledgable about street food as well as Singapore overall. He explained in detail about the 3 main ethnic groups residing here under one nationality that helped to understand why this country does not have the issues we have in the US. 10/10 would highly recommend.

Tricia filled our minds as much as our bellies. She provided so many wonderful stories and really conveyed the fabric of the community. She was helpful and accommodating. She provided showed us popular sights and local treasures. It was just my partner and I so it was very conversational and intimate.

Our tour guide, Jack, took us on a wonderful walk through three hawker spots, ranging from the most famous hawkers to ones more preferred by the locals. He did a fabulous job of explaining Singapore's local culture. Jack did a great job of talking with us to understand our food preferences and showcase local dishes that we would enjoy. As we walked around, it felt like exploring the city with someone who was genuinely excited to tell you about his home. Additionally, he gave us a number of recommendations for both food to try and other experiences worth checking out during our visit. It was a fabulous tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

What a lovely few hours with Monica who made us feel welcome, safe and educated, we went to places and sampled food we never would have tried or found without Monica it was fantastic, she even took us to the Buddha temple and helped us understand Buddhism and the wonderful teachings of the religion highly recommend

I had a great time with Grayson! He was highly communicative leading up to the tour, which was fantastic. I was flying solo, so it was just me and Grayson. He was really chill, great to talk to, and funny to boot. He is a wealth of information about the local food and culture. I tried many things I would have never ordered on my own. As we walked around the city he discussed the history, culture, and architecture along the way. I highly recommend booking with Grayson!

Jon was a good guide with interesting stories. I would definitely recommend his tour. The only reason I didn't give him a 5 star it's because he made a request for a tip, which was off putting. Tips are generally given for going above and beyond the expectations, and making a request for it is not professional.

What a great day we had with HJ! He treated us to numerous, yummy treats of Chinese cuisine. We were able to get familiar with several different hawker food centers and local eateries. The food was great, the portions generous, and we enjoyed tasting new dishes we probably would not have ordered on our own. We were also lucky enough to visit with the oldest Loin Dance group in Singapore, tour the Chinese Opera museum, and get a magnificent city view from a nearby roof top building. HJ went above and beyond for us!! Great tour! Great guide! We highly recommend!

Ronnie was full of enthusiasm and knowledge as he lead us through the streets, filling our heads and bellies with information and food. Plus a great deal if honour thrown is for spice.

Grayson was a gem, he was so knowledgeable about History and gave us an experience we would never have had . The Hawker markets were fascinating and the food he selected delicious. I really cannot recommend him highly enough and would definitely use him again.

The tour is a total rip-off! We (my wife and I) paid S$ 334 for the tour, and we sampled following drink/dishes: 1. Sugarcane Juice (drink - 2 cups S$ 4) 2. Popiah (Snake -1 order S$6) 3. Chwee Kueh (Snake -1 order S$4) 4. Hainan Chicken Rice (Meal - 1 order S$8) 5. Hokkien Mee (Meal - 1 order S$10) The tour guide took us to two different food courts - one in Chinatown and one in the finance center. While we walked from Chinatown to the finance center, the guide did provide us with an overview in terms of the some of the historical points. The overall duration is about 1 hour and 40 minutes. The way as I see it, we were paying the guide's time, and the rest fee was split between the organizers. We had a similar food tour in Thailand, it was far better than this one. My suggestion is to avoid taking food tour in Singapore.

We had a wonderful experience learning about the Hawker's Markets, the varieties of food and meeting some of the vendors. William was an excellent guide. He was a wealth of information about the markets and how to navigate the city. We had a delightful time.

We had a very informative tour with Marcus Yeo. He knew all about the history and showed us parts of singapore that we probably wouldn't have seen. He was so friendly and obliging. I would recommend Marcus to anyone who wants to do a food tour.

His local perspective added so much depth to the experience, and we learned so much about the culture. Kenny's insights and stories were invaluable, and we loved the Singaporean chicken and all the other delicious food and drinks he arranged for us. Marcus our guide is great. He knows everything when it comes to food and history. Treated well and also bought us Mangostien to take home to our hotel. Yummy!

HJ was the most engaging and knowledgeable guide who showed me parts of Chinatown I had never seen before, despite visiting Singapore many times over the years. The food dishes he selected for me to try were delicious and I was absolutely stuffed by the end! HJ introduced me to some of the business owners he knew well and I learned so much about the history and culture of both Singapore Chinatown and Peranakan culture. I thoroughly recommend doing this tour with HJ if you visit Singapore!

A confusing start since the meeting point is just an address without indicating a building name or intersection. Or taxi driver dropped us off at the address which was not the actual meeting location. Thankfully, with a few WhatsApp messages, we were able to connect with Ben, our guide. Once we got past the meeting confusion, the tour was great! The tour brought us to hawker markets we likely would not have found or selected, and we were able to try dishes we otherwise would likely have not selected.
