After I completed the 2 days temples tour, we asked our guide Pal if we could add on the additional visit to the floating village. It was great to stick with the same team from Journey Cambodia and we had a great time!

Itinerary
Our journey out to the village takes us through small communities and we stop along the way for a tour of Rolous Market. This is a great chance to take photos of the interesting local foods and vegetables found in the more rural markets.
The Tonle Sap one of the world’s most productive bodies of fresh water. In the wet season, the Tonle Sap Lake swells to 12,000 km². During the dry half of the year, the lake shrinks to as small as 2,500 km², draining into the Tonle Sap River. Each year, millions of fish come to spawn in the seasonally flooded forest surrounding the lake, attracting a myriad of water birds as well as people, who have settled in villages along the shores and who live with the rhythm of the water. This ecosystem was classified as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1997. Take a boat trip to ‘Kampong Phluk’ a collection of three small fishing villages in an atmospheric flooded forest setting. Cruise through the village and see unique houses on stilts, and Cambodians at work in the floating forest. Our boat will meander slowly through forest canals, allowing you to catch glimpses of flora and fauna, and see a truly beautiful eco-system.

Visiting this lake and village at the beginning of the rainy season had its advantages (for us) because it was not crowded with many tourists. Our guide, Sopheap Rath, was originally from the village so we felt like we had a very personalised tour and good insight into what the daily life was really like. You can tell he has a love of learning and of Cambodia and its history. 🇰🇭 Our driver, Seyha, was a confident driver negotiating all the intricacies of the Cambodian roads! We also appreciated his politeness and preparedness with cool face cloths and cold bottles of water upon our return to the van. Sopheap was our guide for our three day stay in Siem Reap. This was our first time to Cambodia and he made a good impression! We really enjoyed our time in Cambodia. Thank you, Sopheap 🙏
We had a lovely time with our guide, Sopheat Rap. He grew up in the fishing village we visited, and had so much knowledge about the area. We would highly recommend this tour.
Our tour guide Pal was great. He had a lot of knowledge about the area. Our driver Verey was great as well. Would definitely do another tour and then.
We had a fun time today half-day tour, on a trip to Tonle sap. It included market walk, boat ride, walk through fishing village and floating restaurant stop. Our guide Sopheap Rath kept us entertained throughout with stories about Cambodia and village life. We went to a school at the village and spoke to the children there who were learning English. Our driver Ra Da kept cold towels and cold water ready for us, he drove very well which was an hour return trip through scenic countryside.
This was a brilliant tour. We loved our guide, he was so knowledgeable and interesting throughout. Ever thought we were in dry season we still saw everything and found the village so welcoming and interesting to look round. Small warning if your whole group don’t want to go in the forest you don’t go in the forest. But we looked at it from the edge. Wasn’t a big deal but just something to be aware of.
Amazing leader Mr Pal and my driver Keao. It was 2nd trip and the team was amazing. Full of new information that I hadn’t heard. Great views of the sunset and the fishing village life. Take this trip! It will be spectacular
Pal Saruon and Driver Nat were our guides. Amazing tour. Interesting facts about history and culture. If you want an in depth experience, and get to know the locals, definitely highly recommend!
Pal was very knowledgable and gave us good insight into Cambodian culture. Keo was good safe driver also. Would recommend.
This tour was fantastic , giving an insight into the life of those living and working on the lake and inlet. Our guide Sorphorn Tuon explained so much about the culture, history and how the environment changes over the year. Any question we had, he answered. We visited a local market, which showed authentic sights, sounds and daily life, followed by the lake tour. Additionally, we decided to be shown the mangroves and get to know the stilt village more intimately. A great experience with a fantastic guide and driver. Top marks from me!
Great experience! Booked a 3-day trip to visit Angkor Wat areas and we need to buy tickets separately. Temples are exquisite and the sunrise is stunning. It’s lucky to have Pal as local tour guide. Great expertise in Cambodia history and temple design. Good at taking pictures is a PLUS! For those looking for a 3-day trip around Angkor and English speaking tour guide, this trip with Pal a good choice!
We had an unforgettable trip to Angkor Wat with our amazing guide, Mr. Pal. The whole experience was smooth and enjoyable — he arranged car pick-up and drop-off perfectly, was very patient, and never rushed us while we explored the temples. He always offered cold water and refreshing towels, which was a lifesaver in the heat. Mr. Pal also takes fantastic photos — he knows all the best angles and hidden spots! The temples themselves were absolutely breathtaking — from the sunrise over Angkor Wat to the mysterious faces of Bayon and the jungle-covered ruins of Ta Prohm, everything felt magical. Highly recommend both the tour and Mr. Pal if you want to truly enjoy the beauty and history of Angkor!
Well organized and absolutely no delay in traveling by bus and boat. Mr. Pal was very informative, polite and friendly. Mr. Keal was also a pleasant person, driving us very safely. The duo was with us in the temple tour too and their expertise and politeness was never diluted.
I cannot speak more highly of journey Cambodia and their guides , and in particular a big shout out to Bun, Sam and Naro for making our visit to Cambodia absolutely brilliant. Their deep knowledge and good humour and thoughtfulness was a real standout especially as we had encountered a few other dodgy tour operators so we were very pleased when we discovered these guys by accident.
My private tour to the floating was very interesting thank to our guide Monirom and the driver Sambath. The guide was super attentive and explained everything so well, and the driver’s safe driving made the tour even more enjoyable! Thank you
The village on the lake was so interesting to me. My friend and I had a great time. It’s memorable! Hopefully I would like to come back again during rainy season.
Our private tour to the floating was very interesting thank to our guide Samnang and the driver Sa. They were very helpful. Everything went smoothly, a lot of details and history explanations were given to us during the ride. Even in the dry season, we were able to enjoy the tour, we had recommandations on which village to visit during this period!
Sac was an excellent guide, he knew such a lot about the country, History and actual situation. It was an intensive lesson in geografie and history. Time passed by so quickly. Thanks for an unforgetable tour with brillant english
Had an amazing day with my tour guide Mr Moeun Thearith and our driver Mr Kea. Mr Moeun was very knowledgeable on all things Cambodia and I really got an insight into this beautiful country and its people. AAA+ would highly recommend.
Somchhay guided us to Tonle Sap lake stopping at a local market, a floating village and a mangrove boat trip along the way. Somchhay was very engaging and helped us understand better local people’s way of life. He also talked about Cambodian history and very happily answered our questions. Somchhay provided us with a very interesting, informative and relaxed trip. Tonle Sap Lake is huge! Our driver Mr Bun was an excellent and careful driver. Good air conditioning in a comfortable car. He provided us with very welcome cold drinks. Thank you to both of them! Lee & Sarah
Another day with Journey Cambodia, another wonderful guide, Sam, another day filled with learning, amazement and humbleness. The great history of the civilization long gone, the recent history of the Cambodian people still palpable today. Thank you again for opening this country for us.
Great views and eye opening experience. Pal saruon was a great cadet and very experience in the history of the lake. Beautiful day.
Amazing experience lead by our tour guide Pal Saruon. Eye opening journey learning about the history of the lake and the surrounding community
We took a tour with guide named Mr.Lucky (Samnang Yean). Although this trip was a short trip (just half a day), he is extremely polite. His English is good, vocaburaly wise & easy to understand accent. He has a good service mind with a smile always on his face. He has a deep knowledge to explain all place we went and can explain every question we ask. He can give all kind of suggestion we ask, from the recommend restuarant to temple we drove pass on the way. The journey was fun and everything went smoothly as silk. Would recommend him to other ppl if we visit this place again. Normally I wouldn't recommend the guide on the review, but his service kind of touch my heart. For the Tonle sab tour, if you like the river, you will enjoy the nature, the air, thescenery along side this largest lake in Southeast Asia. But if you like some sort of advanture, this is not a trip for you. The tour is more of riding a speed boat to see the view alonf side the river bend. You will see the floating house floating school floating church floating shrine, all type of local ppl way of life. You can also by additional 1hr paddle boat tour from truly local ppl there to go inside mangrove forest. In mangrove forest, you will see all type of local bird and local trees that are uniquely here. Very slow life nature type of tour. I really enjoy.
Today we visited Tonle Sap Lake floating village and had an incredible day with our guide Bun & driver Dara. Bun is an extraordinary guide & provided us with so much great information about Cambodia, Tonle Sap & the floating & flooded villages. He also answered our endless questions! We've had several great guides in Cambodia, but Bun was top-notch & deserves an A+ rating!!
We had an excellent trip with Bun and Sal to the floating villages next to Siem Reap. Our guide Bun provided us with all the relevant information regarding history, culture and religion of the people living in these villages. He showed us also a crocodile farm, which is a great experience to walk upon the crocodiles. Big thank you to Bun and his team for making this trip comfortable and joyful. We hope to come back soon. Ingrid, Christian & Victor Ghita
Another excellent small group tour with Journey Cambodia. Tour guide So was informative and very helpful throughout the day. Booked a small group tour but it turned out to be a private tour with just my wife and I on the bus. The driver (Run) was great and provided us with water and cold towels throughout. Thank you
What an experience! My friend and I had an amazing time visiting Tonle Sap Lake and village. The trip was made all the more amazing by our incredible guide Bun and our driver Mao. They were so friendly and treated us with amazing Cambodian hospitality. They immersed us in Cambodian history that left us so well informed. Thank you Bun and Mao for an inspiring day. Definitely one my friend and I will remember.
A great trip made excellent due to our kind and knowledgable guide Pheap. Added colour and context to our private tour of the fishing village Kompong Phluk. March is dry season and it would be even more fascinating in the wet no doubt. Any excuse to come back to friendly Cambodia! Relatable as it was a town like any other in the way it functions. A very different way of life and good to support back into the community as this company (run out of Kompong Phluk) does according to Pheap. Would definitely recommend these for this tour and others.
A very enjoyable trip by van to the dock and then a boat ride through the river and fishing village and flooded forest to Tonle Sap lake. Once again the tour guide, Sayrika, was informative and it was great to see more of the beautiful country of Cambodia. (This would be a great trip if you are traveling with children who are bored of the temples). Highly recommend Journey Cambodia tours.
We had a half day tour guided by Mr. Chhay. He gave us a lot of information and impression about the importance of the lake and the life aside the lake. It's not only the facts presented in very good English but also the background knowledge that impressed me and my colleagues very much.
Very good tour. Even with low water levels from the dry season, the lake is still impressive and the stilts on which the houses are built can be better appreciated when they are not submerged. Trip also provides a nice introduction to normal Cambodian countryside. Sok Chea was the guide. P.S. He was also the guide for the two-day temple tour. I strongly urge everyone to at least do two days of temples and a trip like this one. Otherwise you are just missing too much. Overall I think Journey Cambodia did a very good job on all three days we traveled with them.
I booked this tour over the internet a few months before we arrived in Cambodia, the company is very efficient and confirmed the booking when we arrived. We had a private tour, with a guide and driver and just two of us. This is great as I can ask as many questions as I like. Chhay was great, he took us to a local market which was fascinating , the people were so smiley and friendly and didn’t mind us taking photos. He then took us to a lotus farm and we tried the seeds, very nice. All of this on the way to the lake. We had a boat to our selves too and Chhay told us all about the people in the floating village and how they live. We stopped at a floating restaurant/ crocodile farm, he really packed lots in for us. He really earned his money. Again the driver supplied us with cold water which was very appreciated.
We did a half day private tour to Tonle Sap Lake. I made this reservation after a live chat with a Journey Cambodia staff. The live chat person was very helpful and he customized our trip based on our desire and schedule. Journey Cambodia was beyond our expectation with their quality service, reasonable price and great staffs. Our private tour to Tonle Sap Lake started at 3pm. Our tour guide, Mr. Sok Chae was very passionate, kind and knowledgable. He did a great job answering all of our questions and explaining lots of details and interesting stories about Cambodia. We drove about 40 minutes in an air conditioned minivan. Then, we took a boat trip to the Kampong Phluk villages and flooded forest. The unique houses on stilts and their culture were very impressive. We really enjoyed the tour. Thank you, Mr.Sok Chae and Journey of Cambodia for giving us amazing memories of Cambodia!
Lucky, our guide, picked us up right on time at our hotel. He educated us along the way about the lake and the homes and people there. He was very interesting and informative. He was born in Siem Reap, and his life story (we asked) was touching. Lucky was such a good guide in every way... smiling, thoughtful, careful, well educated and familiar with the area as only a local could be. The tour was fascinating, if not humbling. It is obvious that alot of people in the world don't live with the same amenities we are accustomed to. Getting an education here can be a challenge. Yet, the children still laughed and played, and the people fished and socialized. The boats and homes were often very colorful. The water was high when we went, so we could see the true obstacles for the locals living on the water. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip there and back and thought it was well worth the money! Ask for Lucky!
Beautiful visit to the village with Pal and Narro At first, a nice walk followed by taking a boat accompanied by a lady with her son, both very kind Pal was a great help in guiding us and explaining everything in a very kind and passionate manner Even during the car ride, he helped us by sharing some history, religion, and culture of Cambodia A beautiful afternoon, to be repeated Recommended
I had a wonderful time during the tour on Tonle Sap Lake: an experience not to be missed for those who want to experience local life and see unique places in the world. The boat ride on the lake is the highlight of the excursion: it allows you to observe the typical floating communities, the stilt houses, and the aquatic landscapes that change with the seasons, a true glimpse into the daily life of the residents. Guided by Pal, the visit was even more special: he was very kind and well-informed, telling us the history of the country and explaining how life on the lake works with clarity and passion. A special mention also goes to Narro, the driver: always courteous and punctual, he made the transfers comfortable and relaxing.
An informative tour with a very dedicated guide. Gave us insights into life in a floating village.
We had a private afternoon tour with our guide Lucky and driver Song – and were absolutely thrilled. The two were on time, super organized and made us feel good from the start. Lucky has an incredible amount of background knowledge, not only about the Floating Village, but also about culture, everyday life and history in Cambodia. Everything was explained very clearly, and we could ask questions at any time. The tour was fun, relaxed and informative at the same time. We can absolutely recommend Lucky & Song!
We loved this ride. 2 hours boat to visit floating villages Count $23 per person (not CB). The site is beautiful and surprising Of course, floating traders will come to offer you notebooks and pens to distribute to children at abusive prices but there is no need. It's part of the game
Our guide Bun and our driver Sal were waiting for us on time in the hotel lobby. As a first stop at a market Bun answered us everything we needed to know about life in the country and all our questions about fruit, vegetables etc. at the market. Boat for us was then ready with a short stop at a small crocodile farm we were then on the Tonle Sap, very impressive. Bun provided us with all the important information about history, culture, nature. Sal transported us safely, was always friendly and always had a cool water ready for us.
Highly recommended! An incredibly great excursion with insights into people's lives. Very impressive and we took touching impressions with us. Our guide Bun and our driver Sal were the best travel buddies you could wish for. Be sure to ask for Bun and Sal when you book this trip!
