This was one of our favorite experiences in Siem Reap. Our tour guide was great and we felt like we got a real taste of authentic Cambodia. Absolutely recommend!

Itinerary
Meet your expert tour guide at Gingold coffee Sivutha Boulevard, Siem Reap at 7:45 am. Please bring a camera, sunglasses, sunscreen and comfortable cycling clothes.
Dive into the countryside. After a safety briefing, we cycle to the outskirts of the Angkor Archeological Park as we make our way to the countryside to experience a way of life that has changed little over the centuries.
After a 10 km ride through small paths and backstreets, we make our way to a local basket/rattan weaver. Learn about this age-old craft, watch the master and give it a try yourself.
Next, we’ll get back on the bikes for a short ride as we cycle our way to a village house to relax and enjoy some snacks. This stop offers a great opportunity to experience first-hand daily life in the countryside. While building techniques have changed over the years, the guiding principles behind their design remain the same and reflect the lifestyle and challenges of living in the countryside.
See a different side to Siem Reap by cycling the quiet country lanes to experience traditional village life, explore tasty snacks and connect with real locals along the way. Activities vary according to seasons.
Next, we head to the West Baray, a man-made lake dating back to Angkorian times. Here, we will ride along the banks, watching fishermen go about their day while birds peacefully fly above them.
Cycling back to Gingold coffee, Sivutha Boulevard, Siem Reap and finish our tour from here.

Certainly a family highlight! Sin was an amazing guide who taught us a lot about Cambodia and its culture. The riding was amazing too getting off the man roads seeing Cambodians in their regular daily life.
Very good bike ride in the country side around Angkor wat and Siem Reap. Our guide Two was excellent, wanted to show the life of the cambodjian people in the country side. Highly recommend, good bikes and excellent guide!
Our guide Hang greeted us with a smile and a coffee, explaining us what to do and where we would go. Then 30 km of Great fun with a local who explained everything we wanted to know and obviously enjoys what he’s doing! We were only with the two of us which made it a luxurious private tour! The Local market was an insight in the real daily life of the people living here. Thank you for your time
We had an amazing tour with Muen Tuy. A highlight of the experience was Muen taking us to the local market and showing us some different Cambodian snacks. The bike ride itself was a lovely pleasant pace and was not challenging. Would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see more countryside of Cambodia. Muen was so knowledgeable in all areas we stopped at, we were so impressed! Thanks again to Muen Tuy for an unforgettable morning!
Muen, my guide was very informative and keep things interesting. He lets me interact with the locals through food, activities and nature. Patient with me as I was biking quite slower than him. I really recommend him if you want to experience a different side of Siem Reap never seen by foreigners.
My guide Bunvath did a great job. He is friendly, knows nature, farming and great places to stop. It rained for most of the trip but he showed me everything. The bonus was because of the rain the bullfrogs were really loud. An amazing nature experience. The snacks he provided should be in the hotels, really tasty and different.
A great tour. Chen was an excellent, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. A wonderful opportunity to get out into the countryside and see more of this beautiful country and its people. With delicious local drinks and snacks along the way.
Terrific break from crowded tours. We rode through backroads of villages and quiet farmland, visited a temple and a sticky rice maker in a ride that both opened and relaxed my body and head. Thanks to my guide, So, for a great morning.
We really enjoyed our half day tour with Chen. He is a fantastic guide, not only for his local knowledge, but in his generosity in explaining the local markets, culture and history. We really didn’t know a huge amount about Cambodia and came away far more informed, but somehow not in a boring way! We road bike a lot at home but decided to try e-bikes due to the heat, and they were so fun. Really high spec and felt like you were almost on a moped at points when you needed a break! Chen stopped regularly to show us various things, and always near a stall where he could buy fresh cold water and/or local snacks (all included in the price you pay- you only need to bring cash for a tip). As we only had time to visit Siem Reap in Cambodia, and not other parts of the country, we were so glad to have done this tour and get off the beaten tourist track.
Great trip with a great guide! I saw many different parts of the area and the guide would stop often to walk some areas. He gave great explanations. Also had a wonderful lunch. I would highly recommend it!
I highly recommend this tour as I had an amazing bike tour with Lot. Even though I was the only person to book, it still went ahead. The bike was great, like new, and they were very helpful swapping my saddle for a more comfortable one. We cycled mostly off road seeing so much ‘life’ as we meandered through little villages, past rice fields, even through sections of jungle. Lot, as a local, was very knowledgeable and arranged stop overs to learn more about how sticky rice is made (who knew!), noodle making, palm tree farming, and a temple school by the wonderful West Baray Reservoir.
I had so much fun with my guide Chen. I was lucky to be the only person on the tour, but he was no less passionate. He taught me a lot about Cambodian daily life and shared a lot about himself as well. I feel like in the time we were together, we were like friends! The cycling is some of the most challenging I have done; it’s not for the inexperienced! It’s a lot of off-roading and bumpy paths which are beautiful and super fun - but definitely hard! You’ll feel it in your legs at the end of the day. There were plenty of stops for snacks along the way (all bought from people who live in the countryside), and I got to try things I could never have had without Chen’s help. One of my top cycling experiences I have had in south east Asia! Plus this company gives you a refillable water bottle to help not contribute to trash in Cambodia, and it was the nicest bike and helmet I have had on any tour.
A fantastic trip. Pat our guide was very knowledgeable and we visited a lot of different places Pat set a really good pace giving us time to look around as we rode. The bikes were good quality and Pat was able to fix the slight rattle I had.
This was a great tour to get off the beaten track and experience the country-side outside the city of Seam Reap . Cycling through villages, rice paddies, on dirt roads, stopping along the way to see a local wood-artistry shop, trying local foods at village markets and bamboo sticky rice from a stall on the road , visiting a monastery and a local family’s rustic rice noodle production, having a very refreshing coconut water from a local stall - all from a bike is the best way to experience the culture and meeting people . Our guide, Chen was amazing as he guided us through the countryside and shared his own story as well as the history of the country . Highly recommend!
Was a great day with my tour guide Chen Suon , too took me to really good cycling locations, we stopped at locations and I learned the local culture ,and we had snacks and chatted , also had bottled water throughout the trip , the countryside was really lovely , and the bikes were new and worked really well , full suspension , easy to ride , We rode at a comfortable and good pace throughout the day , I highly recommend this tour with Mr Chen , he’s a great tour guide and I’m very satisfied with today :)
This tour is 10/10! It’s a bike, foodie, culture tour all rolled into one. Our guide, Tuy Muen was fantastic. It felt like exploring with a friend. We stopped at i) a market, ii) a home where they were making noodles, the kids got to help by sitting on the press iii) making sticky rice iv) a noodle stall with sugar cane juice and v) a blessing at a local monastery. The bikes and helmets looked new and were east to ride. It was just perfect and I will remember it forever. The pace was good and fun for the whole family. I highly recommend this tour. Thank you Grasshopper Active. Incredibly professional operation.
The guides sophat and siya created a great trip for 12 friends travelling together The activities ran smoothly everything was exactly and even better than we imagine. Brohn had the bikes organised and working perfectly each day. He even was at every main intersection to make sure we crossed safely.
An easy, peaceful ride through villages and countryside, visiting a local market, temple, noodle maker, sticky rice makers, West Barai. Lunch was delicious rice noodle soup. Bun, our guide was knowledgeable, kind, safe and went at a good pace. This tour opened the door to see and experience the way of life in the villages. The bikes were in excellent condition and easy to ride. Highly recommended.
We did the half day bike tour (on brand new electric bikes) of the Siem Reap countryside with the Grasshoppers tour guide Muen. Honestly this was one of the best days we had in Cambodia. Everything about the tour from Grasshoppers initial communication, to the new ebikes to Muen the tour guide were excellent. Being reasonably fit (but in our mid 50ies) we thought that cycling 40km in the heat might be easier on ebikes! The bikes were brilliant and can be cycled manually with normal pedalling or with some help if going up a hill or over rough ground…..or whenever you feel like it really! They are super easy to ride. Muen explained so much to us about the Cambodian villages we cycled through and he also told us stories about what it was like to grow up as a child there. We saw fresh noodles and sticky rice being made and sampled both (delicious) and we tried our hand at basket weaving. We cycled past paddy fields, sometimes having to shoo cows off the track and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Plenty of food to sample and fresh water and secure bike helmets supplied. If in Siem Reap please try this tour. It is excellent value for money and such a pleasure to do. Thank you so much Muen. We had an amazing day. Best wishes to you and your family, Michael and Lyndsay (Scotland).
Definitely a must do when visiting Cambodia. Only with a local guide can you go see how Cambodians in the countryside work in different industries from farming, to rice making, to noodle making and more. Each stop felt like a hidden gem and all Cambodians were so warm and hospitable. My guide Muen had all the answers to my questions and so much more knowledge about Cambodian life and culture. A great way to take a break from the temples and see more of Cambodia.
A brilliant to see the real countryside. We were the only ones on the tour, the tours was very flexible to what we were wanting to do and see. Our guide Vich was very patient and knowledgeable about the area. Our bikes and helmets were ready on arrival, a well organised tour. many thanks!
We did the half day bike tour of the countryside. Our guide, Sam, is amazing! Try to get him if you can. He is knowledgable and made the tour so special for us. This is a great way to get out and see the countryside and learn more about Cambodia. My friend doesn't like to bike but Sam was so patient with her he made the experience fun for both of us.
Great cycle informative...muen Was a great guide brilliant experience would recommend this tour and the company
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. It was fun biking the outskirts of Siem Reap and seeing a different aspect of Cambodian life. Our guides were wonderful, providing interesting insights and ensuring everyone had an enjoyable time. Highly recommend this tour.
The bike tour was a lot of fun. The guide was knowledgeable and really kept the tour fast pace and interesting. Would not have wanted to miss this experience as we cycled through paddy fields, learnt about the local farming and went to a local market. The cycling was not hard as the area is very flat. Meet some great people on the tour. The Grasshopper cycle company were well organised and gave us water bottles and hot towels and really nice snacks and drinks before and after the cycle tour.
Bikes are high quality and the guide, Mr. Muen Tuy was amazing and very kind. A 15km easy ride. Very interesting temple, fishing farm, lotus farm, coconut with hammock, local market, rice planting, water bufalos.
I came across Grasshopper Adventures at my accommodation, and the Countryside tour was the best option, for me as a solo cyclist! It definitely did not disappoint! Our tour guide Vichea, took us to the countryside area including many rural communities, markets and also a monastery . The ride was not too difficult, and Vichea ensured all participants were safe on the trip. We also enjoyed some great fruit and refreshments, while enjoying a well deserved break! Vichea also shared with us some history about Cambodia, which enhanced the tour! The water bottle received at the end of trip, is also something I still use back home! Overall, it was a great experience on two wheels!
This was a very well organised bike ride and a Great way to see the local areas of Cambodia. Vich was our local guide and had lots of interesting information and local knowledge that we were able to ask lots of questions about Cambodian life. We visited a local farmers house, a local market, monastery and lotus flower farm with a drink and local snack provided en route. The ride was leisurely mostly along flat dusty tracks and we were guided expertly through the traffic when required. When we returned we were offered cold towels and a coconut... a great way to finish a very enjoyable experience.
Perfect experience with our knowledgeable guide So. Plenty of interesting country roads and quiet streets and rural scenery. At the last stop we relaxed on a swing and just enjoyed a cool beer by the pond for an hour. Thanks very much So!
This tour was a great way to see the countryside of Siem Reap. We were able to visit the local market, which would otherwise have been difficult to visit on our own. We also got to see rice fields and a lotus farm, which were both beautiful. Our group had 8 people + 2 guides, one in front and one in back. Roem was our leader and he was very good at making sure we knew where we were going and that we were comfortable. It is mostly biking on dirt roads with lots of rocks and powdered sand, so keep that in mind if you are bringing kids.
Excellent organisation, and providing very interesting information about local life in the countryside by local guides.
If you want to get down with the locals and see the rustic side of life in Cambodia then this is the ideal way to do it. You will cycle through farmland outside of Siem Reap, visit a local fresh food market, where the locals shop daily and get a couple of snacks from food stalls alongside the market. This tour gives you a real taste of the life of everyday people in this lovely country. Many thanks to Moon for his informative commentary along the way.
Here’s the things we liked: New, perfectly functioning, 18-speed mountain bikes with disk brakes front and rear. Helmets provided. Their mechanic came out to check each of us was ok before we set off. All staff had clean and smart company-logo’d cycling shirts. When booking, they asked our height and each bike had a typed label on it with our names before we arrived. The local guide, Roem, spoke English. 10 people on our tour which was just right. They gave us cold water in bottles attached to the bikes several times around the trip. Safety very good: a second guide raced ahead at the few main roads and held the (light) traffic for us to pass, the rest of the time he was at the rear ensuring no stragglers. He cycled slightly outside the last group member to ensure traffic was well clear of our group. One person got a very small tiny scratch as they veered to close to a bush and they had a good first aid kit to ensure no infection. At the market stop, they bought us fried bananas (lovely) and gave us a chance to talk to the vendor. No problem with stopping for photos and they offered to take pictures many times. Free WiFi in their office so we could easily exchange photos with each other. Iced towels and cold drinks too. You probably guessed by now, we really liked the trip. Overall a great tour with friendly guides who clearly enjoy their work.
The guide Rom was exellent, very friendly . Nice biking country side, near the ricefield, lot of waterbuffalos, cows, waterlilly.
I had a great morning with Horn as guide and one other person, Carmen from Hong Kong. The riding was cruisey, mainly flat dirt roads and just what I wanted - to experience some rural scenery and open space. Horn was very informative, whether it was the Buddhist monk village, the local market, the fruit snack stop with a lovely lady and her very tidy palm thatched house or just giving background on the rural life in Siem Reap. A fun, relaxing and very interesting way to spin the legs.
We had a great time. Our guide Pat ( Phaht) greeted us and gave us a safety briefing then on our way. We safely made our way through the city area then we were quickly on back roads. We were informed of what was around us and could stop for photos any time we wanted. There was a stop at a village market then a short time later a stop to sample some local fruits then start heading back to town. I would recommend this to anyone. It is a casual ride great fun with friends and or family.
Loved: - The local market - Lovely bar in the rice paddy - Local snacks - Expert guide - Friendliness of the local people We're less impressed by: - visit to the farmer and rice mill (took too long) - Long rides without any activity
Well organized business, equipment in excellent condition, had the bikes adjusted for our height before we arrived. Guides were friendly and spoke English very well. Excellent tour of countryside, stopped for snacks in a hut over the water. Given a coconut with a straw at the end of the tour. Would strongly recommend.
We had an excellent trip with Grasshopper adventures. The guide was very knowledgable, enthousiast and excellent in managing traffic for the group. We stopped at a market had nice refreshments and the bikes were well maintained.
Excellent, Samnang was a brilliant guide! We went off the beaten track to small villages, large temples and very large markets! It was fascinating.
We made the 1/2 day tour in the Countryside including our 8yrs old daughter and really enjoyed it. Tour is focused on seeing something from the surroundings - like a local market, a farm, a rice machine etc.... the biking itself is less focused and mainly on gravel roads. Even with the temperatures from 30-34 degrees it was quite ok. Best was the end with a relaxing break in an small hut with fresh fruits, nice landmark and grilled frog legs 😃
We enjoyed it very much. In fact we have just booked a similar tour in Hoi An. We loved seeing village life going on. The riding was easy and mostly on quiet country roads. We felt well cared for by our leaders, including Heun. The market snacks were delicious. The places we visited were interesting. I enjoyed the conversations we had with the leaders and the information they shared . Thanks !
Our guides Hang and Rawi were excellent. We were a group of 8 with teens and young children. My teen daughter was scared and not a confident bike rider but the guides were so patient and kind. I was also quite concerned initially that the dirt roads would be very difficult but we all really enjoyed the ride through the countryside and small villages. she tried but was too scared on the dirt roads so they got her into a tuk tuk, which followed us for the remainder of the journey. Safety was always their top priority since we needed to pass a bit of traffic and be on some roads with other vehicles. We even got to stop off at a market to buy some bread to feed huge fish at a temple. A real treat! We would definitely use Grasshopper again!
Consistent with many reviews, I agree that it’s a good company, with good staff, providing quality and thoughtful tours. Equipment is good. Water is provided. The Countryside tour provided a nice view of the very friendly Cambodian people who live there. In my opinion, and others may disagree, I would preferred that the tour ended a little sooner or started a little earlier, to avoid some serious heat during the final hour returning back to the office at around noon. That said, I would not hesitate to take another tour or recommend the company.
Wanna go off the beaten track to see the countryside of Siem Reap and how the locals live, then cycling is the way to go. I did a half day tour with Tu Muen and it was relaxing and educative. He is friendly, patient and always seeks to adapt to my needs. I highly recommend it.
an excellent way to spend the morning. Sambo (Bo) was the guide. Riding through the country side and saying hello to the locals and the children running to greet you was a highlight. the locals market was fun as well. Nice casual pace and Bo was a great guide and great to talk to about local life. Another great Grasshopper tour and can't wait to use there services again where ever I can in the world.
Our local tour company Khiri travel booked this for us and so glad they did. Top quality bikes with helmets ,water bottle and guide(I think called Tu Muen) encouraged us to get familiar with riding before we went on the road. Guide kept checking over first few Km that we were managing OK and was especially careful with us in the brief city traffic before going to the tracks and paths of the countryside. Loads of photo opportunities. Paths and tracks bumpy but am not a regular cyclist and it was fine. Really felt like we were "in the countryside" and didnt see any other westerners till we returned to the city. Learnt a lot re local life and farming. A very professional company - well recommended. Several stops including a local house where we could also use the toilet and at a market where we were given coconut juice and snacks.
We booked the countryside tour & had a great morning. We truly enjoyed this tour and getting to see local life in the Siem Reap countryside. The biking is at an easy pace and our guide made it a very enjoyable
The tour was supposed to be with other 3 persons but then they reschedule it to yhe next day, so k was the only one in the tour. Although I was alone, Hang still carried out the tour. It was a great experiences. We went to visit the market, go passed the ricefields, got to visit a local monastery. Hang explained the history and how the locals live in Cambodia really well. Thank you so much for the incredible journey !
