Itinerary
In Temple Town, there’s endless touristy restaurants pushing the same myth and menu about Cambodian food: beef loklak, fish amok, and green curry. But if you look closely, there are no local customers, and the chefs are eating something different in the back room. Millions of people come to Siem Reap completely missing what food here truly is. That’s why we spent months on squat boats, knee deep in mud with water buffalo, and exploring countryside villages where locals eat the real stuff. Because it’s not just about the food, but where it comes from and who prepares it. We’ve built strong relationships with the local community to offer you an incredibly unique and authentic experience. We’ve met the servers, the chefs, and the farmers behind every grain of rice and drop of fish sauce, to put together a one-of-a-kind experience. The food you’ll eat features ingredients and recipes that are made in Siem Reap by locals whose roots date back to the Era of God-Kings.
Kula Cuisine: Visit the only restaurant in town serving cuisine from this small ethnic minority group originating in northwest Cambodia. You’ll love their use of local herbs and homemade pickles to create a unique flavor.
Get transported to a different world where water buffalo roam the rice fields and locals pick lotus seeds for a snack. We'll visit Brother Vet and his stilted home for a meal in a village older than Angkor. Eat seasonal ingredients where civil war, God Kings, and European trading envoys passed for centuries.
If a street food stall can turn into a restaurant, it means they made it. It also means that this bbq shop is one of the oldest in town. Come find out why it’s our go-to for beef skewers and what we eat ’em with!
There are plenty of sweet treats in Cambodia, but one stands above the rest. We’ll visit our favorite spot for made-to-order pancakes from a wife-husband duo with a special story. Finish the night with an in-house cocktail that highlights local ingredients, or grab an ice-cold pint of Cambodia beer, at a fun hidden hangout.

We had a lovely time on this food tour, guide was fantastic and the food was delightful.
Very knowledgeable guides (2 for 3 people). Interesting concept, they want to take people to places tourists would never know to go. One part of the tour was a drive in the country to a very poor village. The food was fine. We ate on the floor. I was a little concerned about food hygiene because the food wasn’t hot when served but nothing bad happened. I’m glad I got to see something that’s normally not on a tourist stop. Sunset photo opportunity was great. I’m glad I did it, but less adventurous people might get a little nervous. Seemed a little expensive compared to the other food tour I did in Cambodia.
A comprehensive cultural food experience, tasting food of everyday Cambodians, showcased by our delightful tour quide Sochea. From a local eatery, to a family home in a local village, where we shared a typical family meal and listened to family tales and superstitions. We transversed the country side, saw lotus plants, witnessed a glorious sunset and devoured delicious beef skewers. Finally, we caught time for a delicious side cart roti. then landed in a female owned cocktail bar in a small laneway not far from pub street. Oh, what a night! I highly recommend on your next trip to Siem Reap. Thank you team Lost Plate.
Heng was our guide and her enthusiasm, knowledge and great personality made our trip memorable. All the food stops were delicious. I think the highlight is the sunset view and the home visit. Very special.
I highly recommend this food tour. We were taken to 6 different stops by our tuk-tuk driver to sample a variety of local foods. Sochea was our guide and she was exceptional. She described all the dishes while explaining the Cambodian culture. The highlight of the tour was eating with a local villager and visiting his home.
We had an amazing evening with Heng sampling delicious local Cambodian food and learning more about the culture and cuisine. Really grateful to Heng for leading us with enthusiasm and to Mr. Wat for welcoming us into his home (and to his wife for cooking for us!). One of the best food tours we’ve done!
I absolutely loved this tour, it was a comprehensive introduction to Siem Reap and Cambodian cuisine. Our guides were phenomenal in introducing us to Cambodia through a shared passion: food! They brought us to the best spots and fed us the most delicious Cambodian dishes, including being welcomed to a local village for a homecooked mean, sharing details about the culture that one can only glean through a local. We loved everything we ate and all the places we went; highly recommended!
This sunset food tour is absolutely incredible! Sochea was absolutely amazing. So knowledgable, friendly and passionate about the culture of Cambodia. Visiting the home in the local village was an incredible experience and we feel lucky to have had the opportunity to do that. Food was fantastic and delicious cocktail to finish.
This is a must do! Heng, our guide, was a stand out! Heng's knowledge of the food we had, the history of the places that we ate at was superlative. The highlight of the tour was the home visit where we went into a rural village and had a meal prepared by the family. All the food that we had was amazing, true Cambodian flavours.
Brilliant tour. Sochea was an excellent guide who shared her knowledge of the food and area. She really engaged our children in the experience.
We booked the Lost Plate food tour in Siem Reap and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Cambodia. Our guide, Mr Sann, was brilliant he was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing local food and culture with visitors. He made the whole evening feel personal rather than like a typical tour. The food itself was fantastic, a real mix of dishes we wouldn’t have found (or known how to order) on our own. A real highlight was the stop at the fishing village to visit Mr Vet’s house, which gave us a genuine glimpse into local life beyond the usual tourist spots. I came away having learnt loads about Cambodian food and culture, not just having eaten well. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Siem Reap who wants an authentic, well-guided food experience rather than a generic tourist trail.
The Old Siem Reap sunset food tour is a fantastic way to experience local food culture and it was the best thing I did in Siem Reap aside from the temples. Heng is a wonderful guide - not only does she have in-depth knowledge of the cultural background of all the food you will try (mi kola, ban hoi, a home cooked meal outside the city, skewers, and desserts), but she will also educate you about Cambodian history and society. Heng and our host for the home cooked dinner, Mr. Wat, are a delight to hang out with. If you really want to experience Cambodia, you will not regret the trip outside the city to Mr. Wat's for dinner - it is a refreshing step outside the usual resort/hotel bubble and the food is delicious.
I had a great time, the food were all really good. Our guide was so friendly and she knew a lot about all the places we were going and the local area. Everything went smoothly without any problems.
Heng was the best guide! She was very organised with the pickup and informative and fun the entire trip. The local home visit was a highlight.
My wife and I went for a Lost Plates food tour around mid-June 2026. It was our first time in Cambodia so we wanted to sample a variety of local cuisine. We chose Lost Plates as we read on a magazine that they included a local village experience in their tours. Our guide was Heng. While we signed up for a group tour, it ended up being a private tour because we were the only ones that day. It was a rainy day but Heng arrived on time with a Remork. Before we started off, she spent some time briefing us about what to expect during the tour, including the number of food stops planned. We made a mistake of not skipping lunch - there was a feast awaiting us. There were 5 stops, with 7 dishes in total. First stop was a local noodle shop where we had Mi Kola (a noodle dish) and Ban Hoi (a DIY wrap dish). The second stop was where we made a half hour journey to the countryside where we were hosted by Mr Wat in his home. I must admit I was feeling increasingly anxious as we neared our destination as some of the houses did not look so well maintained. Thankfully, Mr Wat’s home was clean and well-kept. He took us on a little house tour where he explained the local cultures and beliefs behind the house’s design and artefacts. After that, we feasted on his wife’s amazing cooking. We had 3 amazing dishes (fried chicken, prahok, and sweet and sour fish) with rice. It was interesting to learn more about Mr Wat’s life over good food and a beer. After that, we headed back into town where we stopped by a skewers shop (delicious freshly grilled meat skewers!), and then had a pancake dessert (like a prata!). The last stop was a local bar where we had a nice cocktail night cap. Apart from the food, Heng was central to our experience. She shared her knowledge about the local dishes with enthusiasm, and as the night went on, we also learnt more about her life in Cambodia, and the local culture. I liked how there was always a story behind each food establishment we visited, and you can tell it was chosen with care to reflect not just the local cuisine, but also to support the local businesses. Would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Cambodia and would like to have a crash course in the local cuisine. Even better if you manage to get Heng as your guide!
Lost plate organises the best tours around the world. I've done three tours before in China and found myself in Siem Reap and was pleasantly surprised to find one of their food tours here. The itinerary and portions are well thought out and with a guide like Heng is the cherry on top. She is genuinely excited to show us around the city, explain the food, the history behind the shop owners and all that with a huge smile. Thank you!
Amazing experience! Tried many new foods and even went to a local village! Would recommend to all!!!!
Amazing food tour! Just some of the highlights - got to eat local food in a local household - some of the best beef skewers and bread - tried lotus seeds for the first time - customized our tour to eat some fried tarantulas after - nonstop beers in the tuk tuk
Amazing guide Heng! We started on time, stops are well coordinated and very engaging. We opted to go have spiders instead of going to the bar as planned and she obliged. Won’t hesitate to book with Lost Plate and w Heng again. It did help that we had a lot of refreshments in the tuk tuk!
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Senghong and the driver. We tried many interesting foods and had many thought provoking conversations. Although the tour is quite expensive, there would have been no other way for us to see and experience this side of Siem Reap ourselves so we have no regrets and only positive memories. Highly appreciate our guide and he made the trip even more worthwhile! We highly recommend it and thank you again to Senghong.
We had.an amzing guide Sochea, she was great showing us some fantastic food stops and cambodian dishes. we stopped at a village and had a meal in the local home and was restayrant quality, we were so lucky and felt so welcomed. we highly reccomend this tour.and thank you so.much Sachea!!! 5 STARS
Hang led best food tour we have been on and we have been on many in different countries. You got to taste food from Cambodia and get a real feel for the country and its traditions. Went to a home and had home cooking and went to a field of lotus plants traveling via a tuktuk.
Excellent tour to start my trip in Cambodia. Sochea was the guide and she made sure everyone in our group was taken care of!!!
We had a wonderful time with Heng today discovering the real Siem Reap. We felt like we saw the true colors of Cambodian culture and food. Lost Plate has not ceased to disappoint and has beautiful guides such as Heng. Thank you!
We had a fantastic food tour with Heng in and around Siem Reap. We visited 6 different places for a variety of different foods. The highlights for me were soy sauce rice noodles, BBQ beef on casava bread with pickles, and enjoying a home cooked meal with a local family. It was a very authentic cultural experience. We never would have discovered the places we went on our own. Our guide Heng was also very nice to us and she is a passionate ambassador of Cambodian culture. Definitely recommend this tour and Heng as a guide. Thank you!
Great experience. Heng was wonderful. Nice mix of food, culture and fun!
Herd was wonderful. Every dish was delicious. Great experience.
Did the lost plate food tour with Jackson. Loved all the food stops we covered. Jackson was fun, informative and very accommodating. Provided u limited beers for hubby and purchased some soda water that I requested. Cocktail at the end was perfect.
This was an amazing tour… And Sochea our guide was incredible! She made the trip. We learned so much about the Cambodian people and the lives they lead. It was very moving! The food was so delicious… Every bite was better than the last. Take this tour as soon as you get to Siem Reap !

Wow, what a great tour! Heng was so enthusiastic and informative about the truly local food and way of living for the people of Siem Reap and surrounds. The highlight of the evening was to visit a local home in the countryside for an authentic meal which was delicious. The sunset was a lovely bonus. Thank you Heng, our little group are happy to say that we've learned a bit more of the culture and food of the area, for sure! 😆
We had a very enjoyable, interesting & fun tour with Heng. We tried special Cambodian dishes at a few different places & had dinner with Went in his stilted home in a local village. We finished the night with a delicious cocktail at a very nice local bar. I highly recommend this authentic food tour. The Tuk Tuk driver Mr Lucky was very good as well. And to Heng “it’s ok to not be ok” haha
Heng was a great host during our first day ever in Cambodia. She was kind, entertaining, and an amazing guide. The food was great, company even better. Could not recommend more!
Hang took us on a wonderful food and cultural experience. We learnt so much from both Zheng and the people we met. We experienced the real Cambodia and we leave feeling a great love for this country and its people who are such wonderful host to all those who visit
This was the best way to get introduced to the Khmer food scene in Siem Reap. Our guide, Senghong, was excellent taking us to a variety of venues. We especially enjoyed the family home food experience. Traveling by tuk tuk was fun.
Seavyi is the best! The food was delicious and turned into an awesome cultural experience going to a local’s home and enjoying a home cooked meal on top of everything else
Went on an amazing food tour with Heng. She was the most amazing guide sharing some information about the history of Cambodia. We visited lots of local hidden gems that I would have never found on my own. The best part was visiting a local village and dining with a family having the opportunity to taste authentic Cambodia food. Would absolutely recommend this tour to everyone !

We went to small local places that have been around for forever as well as she curated an amazing home cooked meal at a local families home!!! The entire evening was incredible!!!!
Sivhong and our drivers led us around Siem Reap and organized a wonderful experience. She shared lots of information about her town, the vendors, and the food they were preparing. The highlight was a visit to a local house where the owner and his wife prepared a wonderful meal for us and showed us their home. We tried so many different dishes, but never felt uncomfortably stuffed. It was just an awesome experience!!!
The scheduled visit to a local home was out of sight good! Our guide was highly informative, friendly and organized. Also the variety of food choices was perfect, including desert and drinks!
