Our local guide was excellent and informative. We toured the grounds of one of the five monasteries that line the canal, then carried on up to the lake. We booked our tour in mid-October, towards the end of the rainy season (but sunny and hot the day we went), so the waters were high. Very worthwhile.

Cruise on Tonle Sap Lake, one of Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lakes and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Renowned for its remarkable biodiversity, the lake is home to numerous species of fish and migratory birds, making it a vital ecosystem for both wildlife and local communities. During the monsoon season, the lake swells dramatically as the Mekong River floods, reversing its flow and creating a unique, seasonal floodplain. This phenomenon not only supports a rich fishing industry but also sustains the livelihoods of thousands of families who live in floating villages, showcasing the lake's integral role in the region's culture and economy.

We had a wonderful Floating Village and Tonle Sap Lake tour with Mr. Dat! He was kind enough to adjust our schedule to meet our commitments later in the day. His English was excellent and he was very passionate and knowledgeable about the floating villages, the people and their very interesting lifestyle. We would highly recommend this tour and ask specifically for Mr. Dat.
Our local tour guide J.B. was an excellent source of information about the local floating village community and way of life. We did the boat tour and he offered us to walk for 10 minutes through the village and see local life up close and we enthusiastically agreed, and it was worth it! Would definitely recommend to do this tour!!
It was a truly an eye opening experience to learn about the floating fishing village way of life. We learned about the area/community as well as how they dry and smoke the fish. Mr Tan Bunto was an amazing tour guide - very knowledgeable, friendly and spoke from the heart. Would highly recommend if you want ann authentic Cambodia experience. Thank you!
It was such a cool and unique experience and everyone was so nice and welcoming
Had a great tour of the floating village with Sambath. He was very knowledgeable, informative and caring. Would highly recommend, the pictures do not do this place justice.
An excellent insight into life on the lake and the unique way the local communities live. Our guide, Dat, was warm, welcoming, incredibly informative and so accommodating to everyone in the group. Such a wonderful experience made even better by a fantastic tour leader. Highly recommend! ❤️🇰🇭
Great tour.....Dat the guide was awsome and informative....recommend to everyone. A very different world....
We had an incredible half day tour of Tonle Sap Lake and floating houses with our guide Dat. Dat was informative about the day to day lives of the local population and told us interesting facts throughout the trip. We started by walking through a local village and then boarded a boat for an hour and a half long boat ride along the Tonle Sap Lake. It was absolutely beautiful and lots of opportunities to take photos! Thank you Dat for answering all of our questions and for making it a very enjoyable experience, we would highly recommend this. It was good value for money - $25 for the half day tour including a private bus, the boat tour and private guide.
What a beautiful time we had. Our guide was generous and patient with my many questions! Allowed me to stop and take pictures or talk to people whenever I wanted to. No pressure to move along fast at all. The people were busy keeping their lives afloat as we six tromped by, but they had smiles and waves for us the whole day long. This was my favorite part of my Vietnam/Cambodia trip. And by far. So important and good to see how others live, accommodating the swelling river and building their lives on it. Some were floating, some not. All were handing out free million dollar smiles.
With the guide we were able to see how people live along the river and are able to adapt to life when the rainy season comes. Great experience and well worth doing.
Brilliant experience. Lovely welcoming village woth expert tour guide and driver. Village itself is stunning and so well considered.
After an unforgettable visit to the awe-inspiring temples of Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm, I opted to continue the adventure with the optional tour to Tonlé Sap and its famous floating village. Cruising across Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake offered a fascinating glimpse into a unique way of life, where entire communities live, work, and attend school on the water. Along the way, I was treated to sightings of local wildlife, adding another memorable dimension to the experience. What truly stood out, however, was the genuine warmth and kindness of the local people, whose hospitality made the journey feel both welcoming and authentic. It was the perfect complement to a day of exploring Cambodia's rich history and culture.
An amazing experience with Dat. Extremely informative but also with a lot of humour. An exceptional experience
An excellent tour that gave an insight into the lives of locals. Dat was a great guide and shared lots of information
An excellent afternoon excursion with a local guide called JB. His knowledge of the area and local customs was excellent and informative. The boat trip was awesome. Would highly recommend.
JB was an amazing tour guide on our trip to see Kampong Khleang floating village. This was such a unique experience and JB shared so much about Cambodian history and his own experiences as well. Unforgettable and one of the highlights of our trip to Cambodia!
After finishing a tour of the Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm temples, I was presented with the optional tour of Tonle Sap and floating village. Was able to see a unique way of life and some interesting wildlife. The hospitality of the locals was second to none.
We had such an excellent time with Dat as our tour guide. The experience itself was breathtaking to see, and felt untouched by tourism. Dat introduced us to local people in the area, gave us a history of the area and customs and was on hand to answer all of our questions. Dat was an excellent guide who I would recommend anyone to approach for a tour - he was funny, personable and massively knowledgeable on the area and local environment.
We had a tour with Dat. It was such a beautiful tour. I'd highly recommend paying the extra and heading out to this more authentic floating community.
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Kampong Khleang and Tonlé Sap. Our guide, Dat, was super informative and friendly. This was one of my favourite experiences in Cambodia so far. I strongly recommend this experience for any visitors in Siem Reap.
Dat lead our team through three beautiful temples, explaining the complexity’s of the structures and the history behind them. The views and the sunrise are a must see for any person visiting the area.
Had a wonderful time on a boat trip along the river and out onto the lake. It was an insight into genuine life for the fishing community. We saw the houses on stilts and learnt about the annual flooding. We saw how the local people made a living. Our guide, named Dat, was excellent and he introduced us to a local family who seemed genuinely pleased to share their story with us. A trip I will remember for a long time.
Dat was a knowledgeable and friendly tour guide who gave us a wonderful insight into life in Khleang Village and the local culture. He also took us to Tonlé Sap Lake, where we spent some quiet time in the middle of the lake, listening to the laughter and conversations of villagers living in the floating houses. The tranquility of the experience was unforgettable. We really enjoyed our conversations and learning more about the local way of life. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Incredible tour to experience the way of life at the floating village and meet the local people. The guide JB was very knowledgeable and it was great to know our money was helping the local economy.
Borey was our tour guide. We find him to be friendly, informative and accommodating. He was on time for hotel p/up.
With Tan we visited an authentic fishing village, where Tan still had relatives and he shared fascinating insights into the smoked fish process which provided a livelihood for the villagers. The day was completed with a boat tour on Tonle Sap lake which gave another perspective viewing the Kampong Khleang Floating Village. Tan, as a former photographer ensured that all our group captured every scene in the best possible way. He was extremely knowledgeable, proud of his culture and heritage and provided us a truly special experience. Highly recommended!
We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tour; stopping at the stilt village to view firsthand the preparation of fish for smoking and travelling along the river out to TonLe Sap Lake. Our guide, Mengkav, was a wealth of knowledge and very enthusiastic, we had a very enjoyable and informative time.
Great tour! We really enjoyed visiting the fishing village on stilts and experiencing the daily life of the residents. The boat ride to the floating village, watching the fisherman work, and experiencing the beautiful sunset over the lake were all phenomenal. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly as was the driver. Recommend this trip!
Fantastic tour - one of the best day tours we’ve been on in SE Asia. Really gets into the life of Cambodia.
An amazing experience to see and experience first hand. Being able to see the fishermen working and how the families live in the floating village and the community of stilt houses was fascinating. Boray our guide was exceptional, so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He gave us real stories and had a friendly approach. Would thoroughly recommend.
Had a great afternoon visiting the floating village. We drove through and then walked part of the way on the road side and then took a boat trip along the river seeing all the houses and communities. This was followed by taking the boat into Tonle Sap lake. Our guide was very knowledgable about the area and we really enjoyed our time there.
Lin our guide and Mr Ha our driver both lovely and Lin very knowledgeable guide with excellent English.Trip was perfect duration given heat .. collected from hotel and driven to the stilted village . A good walk round and explore the fish drying and smoking process . Joined our boat for trip to floating village along the lake watching local fisherman catch fish. Lunch stop on the way back lovely in clean and beautiful garden surroundings. A great morning !
Our guide JB was so knowledgeable, fun and patient answering to all our questions. Great tour both in Angkor Wat, the temples and the floating village.
This trip was amazing. It certainly opens your eyes and all the families work so hard and are all such happy people. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
A brilliant day. Seeing how the local people live their lives on the lake was very interesting. Not too touristy, very friendly people going about their daily lives. JB our guide was excellent: knowledgable, funny, friendly, a great guide.
Great guide, very informative, interesting and fun!
We went on the tour with Mr. Lin. I think he has the best command of English out of all the tour guides I met in Asia, not only Cambodia. He is also very well mannered and very well informed. The tour was perfectly organized. Ask for mr. Lin and enjoy some of the most spectacular sights Cambodia has to offer.
Had a lovely experience seeing the floating village. Our guide was really knowledgeable and it was amazing to see the different areas including the sunken village with houses on stilts, the soy bean farm and the floating village. Worth the half day trip to see a different side to Cambodias cities!
We had Dat as a tour guide. He was friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!
This was a great trip to see a different side of Cambodia away from the usual tourist experience. We had a great guide who was very helpful.
Wow, what an experience! We have never seen anything comparable - Whole villages built on stilts to protect them from the floods of the Mekong River and floating villages that relocate depending on the water level. And as the icing on the cake the sunset on the lake. JB, our guide, was extremely well-informed and outspoken. Besides that, he is a very pleasant person! Highly recommended!!
The Kampong Khleang Floating Village and Tonlé Sap half-day tour was one of the most interesting and meaningful experiences of our trip. Unlike more touristy floating villages, Kampong Khleang feels real and authentic, offering a genuine insight into how local communities live and work on the lake. Traveling through the village, we learned a lot about daily life, fishing, schools, and how people adapt to the dramatic seasonal changes of Tonlé Sap. Seeing the stilt houses and floating homes up close was fascinating and humbling. The boat ride on the lake was peaceful and beautiful, especially taking in the vastness of Tonlé Sap and the surrounding scenery. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and explained everything clearly, answering questions and providing great cultural context. This tour is well worth doing if you want to understand Cambodia beyond the temples. It’s educational, respectful, and a great way to see a different side of life in the Siem Reap region..
Borey happiness is infectious. He tells us so many fascinating things in a very enjoyable way! Seeing the floating village was very new to me and I am happy to have had that experience. Knowing that our tourism is helping is a great insentive!
Very friendly and knowledgeable guide. Borey is the best, all smiles. Good mix of history, humor and local life and activities. Smoke fish production was interesting too.
Very good! On time, very nice car. Very good driver and tour guide. They both added great value to the day! Everything was better than described. We also went to a wonderful restaurant for lunch. Good selection, delicious and beautiful atmosphere. We did a private tour for my wife and I, well worth it. Highly recommend
We had such an incredible tour led by JB. We was an extremely knowledgeable LOCAL tour guide. We visited two temples and finished our day off with a boat ride through the floating villages to see how real Cambodians live. I would highly recommend this tour!
