Long but beautiful drive down the coast. Beautiful little towns. Taormina is mostly shopping unless you have tickets for the Greek theater. Crowded with tourists. Beautiful views of Mt Etna

Itinerary
This will be one of our two destinations of our tour.
Corso Umberto is the main street of Taormina
Piazza Duomo is situated in the historical centre of Taormina and is the meeting point from where the visit of Corso Umberto I, the main street, starts.
The fountain is built in Baroque style and takes its name "4 fountains" from the four small columns that are located at the four corners of the central body and which are surmounted by four seahorses from whose mouth came the water that ended in the trays below.
Palazzo Ciampoli was a stately residence in Catalan style.
The Cathedral Fortress, as the Cathedral of Taormina was defined, was built around 1400 on the ruins of a small church from the Middle Ages and dedicated to San Nicola di Bari.
Together with the third wall, whose remains are still visible on the right side up to the castle, it delimited the part of the city defined as 'fifteenth-century village'.
Piazza IX Aprile is Taormina's most elegant "living room". Characteristic are the outdoor bars and artists who paint portraits and landscapes.
This church is situated close to the Torre dell'orologio, overlooking the IX April square.
The church rises on the ruins of Odeon, built also on the ruins of a Greek theatre dedicated to Aphrodite

Reviews
The tour experience is absolutely wonderdul and much beyond my expectation. Not only for the great view of Taormina, but also for the professional service provided. The tour provider has good time tracking and is able to take care every member's needs. Our tour guide Carmelo is very kind and always full of passion.
Long bus ride. Beautiful views. Fun shops. Not too much else unless you pay for tickets to the ancient Greek theater. The views of Mt. Etna are nice.
Excellent - however both venues were extremely crowded. We really enjoyed the Amphitheater. You need to allow plenty of time for it. Our guide (Gabriella) was great
MaraRita was a phenomenal tour guide. She was very informative and knowledgeable on the tour. We really enjoyed hearing her share the history and the love she has for her city. Gabriela was also great with sharing his love for cooking and providing us with his almond cookies.
It’s a very long trip through some winding, narrow roads that a lot of people will not be used to going up the hillside
Some beautiful views from this tour, including the Etna volcano. We had some difficulty understanding are onboard guide, mostly just due to her dialect.
Our guide was amazing. Very knowledgeable and in-gauging. she made the trip!!
We had the best tour with Sara. Her enthusiasm came through with all the information she shared. Of course the sites were amazing! Highly recommend.
I’ve been on many excursions and this was THE BEST EVER mainly because of the tour guide Gabriela and also the company she represents Discover Messina. Communication was excellent prior. Gabriela brought so much energy and knowledge to the excursion. Truly a memorable experience.
We had an excellent tour of Castelmola and Taormina with our guide Sara and driver Renzo! The tour operator communicates with you via what’s app well before the tour and explains where you need to meet (we were on a cruise). Sara gave us a guided tour in Castelmola and when in Taormina helped us to buy tickets to the Theatre and skip the queue. She was very polite and knowledgeable and Renzo was an excellent driver with some very tight bends. We would recommend the company to others.
The tour was well organized. The tour guide Sara was very knowledgeable and provided interesting information about Sicily, Castelmola and Taormina. The sceneries were beautiful and we had enough time to tour around and enjoy the local food.
Serena was a wonderful guide. Very patient with my young son and we all had a great time. Would definitely recommend
comfortable rides to two amazing towns with beautiful sceneries and local attractions. Unforgettable!!
Our guide Sara was wonderful, Easy walking and lots to experience. Highly recommended! The view was exceptional.
Our tour guide most definitely deserves a five star review. Serena was a wonderful guide, very personable with a great sense of humor. The driver’s ability to navigate the mountain roads was highly impressive! The drive-through Sicily is wonderful, to be able to see the countryside, etc.. You will end up spending more time on the bus driving than you do combined at each location. It would’ve been nice to have had another 15 to 30 minutes at Castelmola instead of 30 to explore. It would have been nice also to have had at least a solid two hours at Taormina. Overall, it was a decent value for the price. The company was extremely responsive to questions via the app prior to the tour which was very much appreciated!!
Staff was amazing, host and assistant were great, friendly and experts in their field. The bus was somewhat uncomfortable. I also wish we had more time in the towns we visited. The tour didn’t allow for much “free time” to explore and taste, especially in Castelmola. Otherwise great tour overall.
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The tour leader Katia is amazing, she is well informed, pleasant, kind and respectful.
This is an amazing tour, and I encourage you to sign up. This was my second time doing this one, because I loved the 2 little towns so much, along with the view on the drive getting there. Our guide. Serena, was awesome. She was very knowledgeable and was so sweet. The smaller bus they use is awesome too. Doesn't take as long to get everyone on/off. The only thing, is that during the time in Taormina, that there could be a bit more time. I know it's based on the departure time of the cruise line, but maybe offer an option in the early day that gives more time there. Just a suggestion. Side Note: There is a lot of walking, so if someone does have some mobility issues, it may not be a suitable tour.
It was a glorious day! Castelmola was quaint with winding roads. Do try the Almond Wine! Taoramina has incredible views, shopping and atmosphere!
Trip was well organized and led by the tour guide, she was very knowledgeable and provided great incites and history along the way. Taeromina & Castelmora tour
Marietta was a great tour guide. She gave us a lot of information.
This was a great tour! Giuseppe was our guide. Picked us up right outside the terminal gate. He gave great information about Sicily on the drive - geographical, historical, and cultural. Castelmola is up in the mountain. Great views of Mt. Etna. It’s very small with lots of little alleys to explore and lots of stairs and inclines. Taormina was a great stop. Mostly flat with a great pedestrian walkway and lots of shops and beautiful piazzas. Giuseppe gave us great recommendations on lunch and things to see. He was always around in case we needed anything during our free time at each city. Our driver did a great job navigating all the curves on these narrow roads. Returned us to the cruise ship port with plenty of time to spare. I highly recommend this tour.
This is the most effective way of visiting Taormina and Castelmola from the cruise ship port in Messina. We had an very enjoyable 6.5 hour tour of both attractions (with Mt. Etna in the distance) with our excellent guide Mariarita. The communication from Discover Messina was excellent, they were waiting for us at the port gate, close to our cruise ship, and looked after us very well during our tour. This was much better value for money than the excursions organised by the cruise company, very easy to book, and great service by their staff.
The first village we visited was so foggy you couldn’t see more than about 20 feet. Then it started raining… but instead of letting us back on the bus to go somewhere else, the guide made us stay there getting soaked in the rain for over an hour. Almost all the shops were closed and there was nothing to see or do except to get drenched. The lack of flexibility in schedule was insane. When conditions deteriorate that much, get everyone on the bus and go somewhere else. She was laser focused on keeping the schedule just as planned even when it was obvious it wasn’t working.
Our guide was amazing! Tour was very well organized and pre-communication was fantastic! Highly Recommend!
We ended up being the only two people in the van so we had a Personal tour, which was amazing. We visited both cities and our driver walked with us at times and guided us through the towns. Then in Taormina we were given some alone time to visit the arena, have lunch, shop and site see. Our driver Andrea was excellent. Definitely worth the money.
This was genuinely a great hour and provided the experience we sought; I would strongly recommend it.
Tour guide and bus driver great. Towns beautiful and worthwhile despite scary drive to top of mountain!
Castelmola and Taormina were both beautiful stops. Would have liked more free time at each to explore. Tour was well worth the price. Would love to return to Sicily.
Pick up and return drop off directly at the cruise ship was definitely a plus. Very comfortable 18 passenger van. Mariarita was an amazing guide. She gave a lot of historical information about the three areas we visited during the tour and recommended foods and drinks to try. Her humor made the tour even more enjoyable. We definitely recommend this tour.
Amazing tour guide and amazing tour overall. Every stop allowed enough time for exploring. Our guide Andrea provided great information regarding the history of the area/stops and wonderful pointers on food/desert must haves.
Very organized and a fun day visiting both cities. Do need walking shoes and there are steps and hills in both areas. It’s a beautiful drive as well. Have to give a shout out to our guide, Valentina who was a wealth of knowledge, friendly, made cookies for the tour group and managed to squeeze in the concert at noon at The Bell Tower of the Cathedral of Messina which was so awesome to see and a surprise add on . Thank you!
Terrific way to see two hilltop towns and have free time to wander around and eat lunch. Serena our guide was great, very knowledgeable and friendly.
My wife and I had an excellent time on this tour. We were picked up a couple hundred yards from our B&B, and dropped off in the same location. Our tour guide (I believe it was Mariarita) was phenomenal - engaging and very knowledgeable. The towns themselves were stunning. I generally do not like the rushed feeling I get from most tours, as they tend to involve several things I am not interested in. This tour, however, was perfect. Enough history and information, and inclusion of the main points of interest, and then generous free time to explore the towns on our own. Would highly recommend!
The scenery on the ride to both of these towns was amazing,, BUT--this tour is not for the faint of heart.. Our group consisted of 70 and 80 year olds, and we found walking up the hills, quite difficult.. A lot of walking just from the parking lot to the towns and then uphill both ways..
I cannot say enough good things about our tour guide, Maria Rita. She was so nice, professional, well spoken, and really made our day special. She recommended a wonderful place for lunch in Taormina. The meeting point was easy, the bus was comfortable, and we enjoyed both stops!!
Castelmola was both lovely and interesting. Cannolis in Taormina were the best I've ever had! The views from the Greek theater were lovely. The botanical garden was also beautiful. Our tour guide Mariarita was very helpful and informative.
Serena, our guide was very good, five stars for her and the driver. The tour we selected said, Taormina and Castelmola, small group, but we ended up spending two hours in Messina seeing sights we’ve already seen. We wanted to spend the day in Taormina, not Messina. Had we known we were going to spend two hours in Messina, we would have chosen a different tour.
Our guide and driver were fantastic! They shared a lot of history, culture and daily life about Messina, especially the towns of Castlemola and Taormina. Excellent suggestions for lunch, shopping and some extra must-dos in Messina once our tour was over.
Andrea was amazing. He was very knowledgeable and answered everyone's questions. He was so polite and welcoming. Everyone we came in contact was friendly and welcoming that makes you want to comeback and visit.
Elisa was an efficient & congenial guide on our shore excursion to Castelmola & Taormina in Oct ‘26. Good amount of local & historic information, easy pace, and plenty of free time to explore on one’s own. Water & a typical cookie was shared on the bus to our destination which was a nice addition.
Great trip on a comfortable coach, water and biscuit given. Biscuit is amazing. Eliza was out guide, really friendly and knowledgeable. Both tours were useful, headphones given out so you never miss a word. Great tour overall
Because I was traveling with two 80+ year olds, we originally booked for a small group tour. Unfortunately it didn’t have enough participants but the company was fantastic at communicating and giving us alternatives. They get a 10+ for that! We ended up doing a large group with about 30 people and the bus was easy for my mom and aunt to get in and out of. The tour itself was fun and informative. The drive to Castelmola was beautiful but not for the faint of heart. The time in Taormina involved a fairly long walking tour. Because of mom and aunt, we ducked out of it early in favor of pizza and gelato… what better way to spend a couple of hours when in Sicily!
Bus ride to Castelmola and Taormina with enough time to explore both. Serena was very knowledgeable about both and gave info on the bus ride also. It was a fun day to explore.
Serena was a great guide. We felt like it was a very good value.
We were pleasantly surprised on this tour. Two very charming cities! Definitely must see. Excellent tour guide too!
If you are afraid of heights just be aware of the bus ride. It was a beautiful view at the top. Loved the shopping and the food.
Andrea was an excellent guide! Friendly, helpful and informative. Our driver navigated the very busy streets safely which made for a comfortable ride. The scenic views were magnificent!
Andrea was very friendly, outgoing and a fountain of information. Our driver Jaco navigated the busy streets safely so it was a comfortable ride. The sites were amazing.
