Itinerary
The Syracuse and Noto tour will start with the visit of the Neapolis in Syracuse, the famous archaeological park in the countryside of Syracuse. This place houses also the Greek Theatre, Ear of Dionysius and the Latomie. The visit will last an hour and a half.
We will then reach the lovely peninsula of Ortigia. Starting From the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, with a lovely walking, you will finally admire the Duomo square with is beautiful white Cathedral of “Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception”, erected on the Ancient Greek temple of Athena. The walking will continue till the Fountain of Arethusa, a legendary fresh water spring with a fountain.UNESCO declared Syracuse World Heritage Site in 2005. Here in Ortigia we will offer you a tipycal sicilian snack made of "Tavola Calda" with water and red wine. Or, if you prefer, you will have one hour of spare time to have lunch in one of the many amazing restaurants in the alleys of the city.
After lunch we will drive to Noto, a jewel of Sicilian Baroque, Unesco heritage. Noto is considered a “open air museum”. Here we will visit its main street coming from the “Porta Reale”, pass by the Church of St. Francesco with the majestic staircase. Palazzo Ducenzio is located in Piazza Municipio. Admiring the many palaces and churches , it is not possible to miss the visit of the Cathedral Church

The guide/driver was great with the guiding element quite light touch as he showed us around before giving us free time to explore at our own pace. Neapolis Archaeological site was fascinating (€14 entry) and so wonderfully preserved. The lunch in Noto was ideal. You could arguably do the same itinerary yourself via train/bus slightly cheaper, but you'd be missing out on a well curated day and be faffing around with timings, tickets, organising lunch etc... so very delighted with how this experience delivered.
I really didn’t have a very good experience . I told the guide I had a little bit of motion sickness but he didn’t address it at all through the day. I had to sit in the very back seat , with no chance to change seats all day, feeling the way I do while travelling, the day was not very pleasant!
The views were beautiful. You need to buy a ticket to enter the Syracuse ruins. The flowers and caves were gorgeous. In Ortega you have some free time as well as eat lunch as a group. The church was worth paying a few euros to enter. By the time we got to Noto we were a bit exhausted from the heat and were unable to fully enjoy it but the sites were beautiful.
Excellent tour full of history and architectural details. Guide was very knowledgeable and communicated well.
There are many beautiful places, especially the Neopolis in Siracusa. The tour was mostly guided, but at the largest and most interesting place, there was no guide and no transparency ahead of time about how much walking would be involved. The Neopolis itself should provide mini trams of some sort because not everyone is capable of walking 20 km. However, I think this should be stated upfront in the "tour "description that unless you are an avid hiker, you will not be able to access this place. It's not really a tour when you are dumped off to climb by yourself.
Informative friendly tour guide, got to see lots beautiful places and the time allocated to each was just right. Lunch was delicious ! Would definitely recommend.
It is unfortunate that, although Syracuse, Ortigia, and Noto are beautiful and worthwhile destinations, this tour did not meet our expectations. 1. Misleading Group Size and Transportation The tour description stated that the group would be limited to no more than eight people. While each van did carry eight passengers, all eight adults were squeezed into a single vehicle, with two passengers seated in the front. This made the journey uncomfortable, especially on a full-day tour. In addition, our guide was shared between two vans, totaling approximately sixteen participants. While traveling, the guide provided commentary over the phone, but the audio quality was poor and often difficult to understand. 2. Archaeological Park Visit The first stop at the Archaeological Park was conducted without a guided tour, and the admission ticket was not included. The TripAdvisor listing only disclosed this exclusion in small Italian text, while the rest of the information was presented in English. This was easy to overlook and felt misleading. The site itself was interesting, but the pathways and directions were not clearly marked. Many members of our group struggled to find their way around and fully appreciate the visit. 3. Tour Guide Experience Our guide, Agnese, appeared knowledgeable; however, his strong accent made it difficult for many participants to understand his explanations. Despite his attempts at humor, most of the group did not seem engaged. What was particularly puzzling was that he frequently chose to stand in direct sunlight while giving explanations, even when shaded areas were readily available nearby. As the day progressed, many participants chose to sit on nearby benches or remain in the shade rather than listen to the commentary. By the end of the tour, several guests had expressed frustration with the overall experience and were eager to return as soon as possible. Positive Aspects The destinations themselves—Syracuse, Ortigia, and Noto—were undoubtedly the highlights of the day. Each city offered unique history, architecture, and charm. The lunch sandwich provided during the tour was also quite enjoyable. Unfortunately, the issues described above significantly detracted from what should have been a memorable and enjoyable experience.
Worst experience ever. The guide wasn’t that informative. He was more worried about the heat. The trip was so boring
Good tour and guide, but beware of the Viator description, which can be misleading. The ad said free admission at each stop, but travelers should aware that the first stop charges an admission fee, which is not covered in the booking fee. Francesco was very knowlegeable for Otygia and Noto, but we were unfortunately left on our own for Neapolis, which was a disappointing and confusing site to navigate on our own.
Fabulous day!!! 1st visit was to Monumentale Della Neapolis It cost 14 Euros to enter We spent about en hour walking g around in the heat looking at the amphitheatres and other stone structures but truthfully would have rather spent the extra time in Ortigia. We drove through Sircusa and did not stop but it looked beautiful. Direct to Ortigia . We walked through the market and ordered our DELICIOUS 🤤 sandwiches from Borderi deli who serve 1 million people a year!!! The town is beautiful 🤩 and no graffiti 👍 we walked to the other end where there is a small beach and had Aperol Spritz with beautiful water view 😎 then had to head back! Then went to Notto that also has beautiful history and architecture but only had 30 minutes free time. Our guide was AMAZING and dropped us back at our hotel first Grazie!! Wonderful day !
We booked this tour primarily to visit the town of Noto which was canceled by the provider and replaced with Santuario della Madonna church in Syracuse. It was not an equal substitute. We wanted to cancel the tour but were told we can’t. The tour was supposed to start at 8:30 am with pickup at our hotel. It was changed to 9:05 at a different pickup location by the provider. The driver arrived late - at 9:25 am. Our driver was also a narrator. While he was very nice, we believed he was not a certified tour guide. We visited only couple of sites and were not given much of a tour and didn’t get educated about the city itself.
Wonderful trip. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and appropriately funny. Lunch was excellent. There is a significant amount of walking which could be an issue for some people. The only thing I would change would be to reduce some time at the ruins in Syracuse and add it to Noto and/or Ortegia. Also, rent the voice guide at the Syracuse park to get a better idea of what you’re viewing.
Our driver, Mika prearranged pickup with me 2 blocks from our apartment. Our group was made up of 8 travels, three Italians visiting, expat from GB, and a mother/daughter visiting from Australia with Italian roots. The conversations were lively and fun and the group meshed well. I loved all the places we went, but thought perhaps the tour was a little more self directed than I expected. We were introduced to areas and then left to sort of find our way. It was a wonderful day and certainly a great way to get from Catania to the places we wanted to visit. We did run across two Saturday markets, but had to rush through those. Our food was from a restaurant at one of the markets and was just dry and we didn’t have much chance to ask for anything and Mika had disappeared. I thoroughly enjoyed the group, but perhaps had a slightly different expectation.
Domenico was wonderful. He was knowledgeable and personable and answered all of our questions. All three stops were awe inspiring and the combination gave us great insight into the history of the area. We learned a lot about Sicily and the different periods of time and cultures. The only issue we had was the van rattle was so loud that we couldn’t hear much of what he was saying as we drove through Cantania but otherwise it was a great day!
We had an amazing time on our tour. The history in Syracuse was fascinating, and Ortigia is absolutely beautiful. Our favorite stop, though, was Noto—such a stunning city. Our guide, Myrko, was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable about all of Sicily.
Fantastic tour. Highly recommend. Sergio was fabulous. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Sites are definitely worth seeing on this tour. We had a group of 6 others and everyone was lovely. Plenty of time to look around in each town.
Excursion from Catania: SYRACUSE, ORTIGGIA, NOTO with lunch You have to choose your words carefully when describing the excursions you offer! If it says LUNCH, it means a meal in the middle of the day consisting of: starter-soup-main course-salad-cake with bread and drink. Most often it is a combination of at least 3-4 of these from the list, and it is served in a restaurant, small or large, with tablecloths, plates, metal utensils, glass glasses, napkins and professional waiters. On the other hand, there is also the term snack, which is a small meal between breakfast and lunch! It is most often done as a self-service taking of the offered food (sandwich, fruit...). Yesterday we were interviewed in the minibus about the choice of sandwich. At a certain time, we were placed in a modest fast food facility where we WAITED FOR MORE THAN HALF AN HOUR to get half a sandwich (all in baskets, so go ahead and ask for what you chose in the survey)! There was an indescribable crowd, a bunch of incompetent “waiters”, with two bottles of cheap wine served for 12 people, in plastic glasses and dirty tables... and you call this a lunch! I suggest that in the description of the excursion this part be called HALF-HALF LUNCH... because you wait at least HALF an hour for HALF a sandwich! Otherwise, the excursion is good (except for the “lunch”), the guide and driver (2x Andrea) are both excellent. Why the ticket to Neapolis was not included in the otherwise expensive excursion, only you know?
Not enough free time in Noto Guide was knowledgeble and easy going Lunch experience and cheese store was the highlight in Ortigio and the beautiful views
Excellent tour. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge and extremely kind and friendly. He was so good about sharing information and made us feel extremely welcome. Highly recommend!
Our trip to these towns was very good and informative. Our driver and guide Francesco was excellent. I would highly recommend it
The locations we saw were very nice, but our guide- I think his name was Damian- did not seem to enjoy his job. He has only been doing tours since April and it was apparent- he did not seem enthusiastic about giving the tour and highlighting his country to tourists in comparison to the other guides I had in Sicily. Some direction on how the day would go would have been nice and better interactions with the clients. Also, I feel the explanations of the sites and locations was limited on his part. Otherwise the areas seen were beautiful.
Great day with Angelo. Very interesting information about the history of the area. Free time and recommendations were perfect. Lunch was a sandwich and a glass of wine and water. Very tasty. Highly recommended day trip from Catania.
We had a Wonderful time every everyone on the tour bus was great and had a experience talking to one another and sharing.
An excellent visit to Greek theatre and Roman Anfoteatro in Syracuse, and Ortygia. It was good to have time to wander and explore. Some rain encountered at Noto but still was interesting. Our guide provided a very good explanation of history and clear instructions.
Everything was great, we got a lot of free time to explorer locations on our own pace. Just what I like
My husband, teenager son & myself had a great trip. The history of Syracuse, Ortygia & Noto is deeply fascinating & we enjoyed a delicious lunch as well. The trip is well worth your time.
Giovanni was kind and included us all together. Great pace and wonderful tidbits of information. The stops were paced well with additional information to achieve the desired experiences for each area. I appreciated being able to ask additional questions and his knowledge is wonderful. If he didn’t he would ask me to explain further. Noto is stunning! Ortygia’s markets great experience! Syracuse see the history!
It was a small group of 7 persons. The guide was very friendly and gave us a lot of information. There was a very nice lunch and every we cake we had Some free time.
Our guid Andrea was very good and informative. Given the weather been so hot, the trip could have been shorter, or more stops for water!
It was just enough to see Syracuse, Ortigia and Noto. Beautiful views of these magnificent places. Must see.
Great trip! Danilo was a wonderful and knowledgeable guide. Definitely recommend for anyone looking to experience cities around Sicily!
We had an excellent guide who was very informative and truly loves his country. The three areas are beautiful and historic.
Great tour. Guide was very informative and friendly. Wish the guide could have gone with us at the ruins and wanted more free time in Ortygia (only 20 minutes). Would highly recommend tour
The sights, scenery and history experienced during this wonderful tour of Syracuse, Ortigia and Noto were fantastic thanks to our guide/driver. Ortigia was our favorite as it was absolutely spectacular and along the sea. The food and wine provided also exceeded expectations. Highly recommend this tour.
This is a great day-trip from Catania! We started in Noto (with some free time), and then went to Ortygia, had a great lunch in a nice cafe on a quiet street, and then ended with the Neapolis in Syracuse. Giovanni was an excellent guide (in English and Italian), always ready with a story and smile. It's a full day, but the tour allows you to cover a lot of ground, in addition to the nice camaraderie of a small-group tour.
The tour guide/driver spoke little English. No explanation or interesting facts about the tour. We expected information about place , culture and history. Did not get anything
Mirko was an excellent guide who really knew his stuff! Such a beautiful place with so much history! I highly recommend!
We were dropped off at he Archeological Site, told there was no guide and if we wanted to use audio guide we had to leave our passports with them until audio unit was returned. We decided not to do this another group on our tour took the audio guide and it did not work. This tour does not go to the town of Syracuse itself which I understand from people we met is worth seeing. The Archeological Site was interesting but not worth it especially because we did not understand what we were looking at. On to Ortygia which was the site of the G7 Summit that week and most of the roads were closed. The driver dropped us off but was not able to come back to do the guided tour. The tour company texted us a map and we had to figure it out. You would think contingencies would have been made by the tour company knowing that he Summit was going on. Poor planning. This tour is not worth the time or the money.

The driver and guide, Davide, spoke fluently in two languages for the general enjoyment of two Americans who spoke English only, me a fluent Canadian with Italian heritage and an Italian visiting her spouse studying at the U of Catania. Davide gave good background about what were going to see, went out of his way to make everyone comfortable and drove with courage and caution through Catania morning and evening commuter traffic. Savoca was a little disappointing as the “Michael Corleone” wedding church was closed. Lunch in Castelmola was pre-ordered but was lovely. The site has 8 temples, constructed in dedication to Greek Gods 2500 years ago, with impressive sections still standing, and evidence of collapsed temples still remain. It is considered second to Athens’ Acropolis in Athens, Greece. It was a fascinating part of our stay, and a unique opportunity to be absorbed in history and witness 1st hand how temples were constructed. Advice is to arrive early in the day, or later, avoiding midday sun as there is little shade and a lot of walking. Scala Dei Turchi - interpreted as Turkish Stairs one of mothers natures gifts. Steps made from granite and chalk that shelter the sea. Access is via a steep stepped path, so requires reasonable fitness to complete. Parking is available on the roadside above, but was very busy when we visited in late August. We were also unable to access the stairs as it has been cordoned off, but was able to get close to see the beautiful landmark. Worth visiting both on the same day. Problem was the driver was an older Italian who didn't understand or speak a word of English making it impossible to communicate with him. Due to the comm gap I didn't know that we had an etna guide at the meeting point who will bring us for the hike and cave exploration. Thankfully this guide explained everything in English. The etna hike was good with beautiful views and pleasant weather but very windy at times. The cave we went into was disappointing , extremely small with 2 caverns and that was it. The lunch provided was OK and mostly an opportunity to promote the wine they produced. After lunch driver took to taormina where we given 1.5 hrs to explore ourselves. Again I had to call the office to translate what the drive was saying regarding the timing and meeting point. Could have been a more enjoyable experience if they got an English speaking driver. This is one of the best tour , with the private transfer from Taormina to Syracusa . We spent a day discovering beautiful baroque towns of Sicily : Ragusa , Modica and Noto , UNESCO world heritage site . In Ragusa , we had a delicious lunch , tasted different types of cheese. In Modica we stopped at the ancient chocolate shop Bonajuto and also went to the top of the village to see San Pietro and San Giorgio cathedrals . Our personalized tour guide , Marco is the best driver , Very accommodating. He is Extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He explained a lot about about Sicily , history and geology of Mt Etna and even about bird’s migration. Marco has a great personality! He made our day memorable and we highly recommend this tour for anyone !
We had the best tour guide. I learned so much about Sicily and their culture. Highly recommend. I hope you try this tour to get a small town feel and away from the big city.
We booked this trip having already visited Siracusa, but not the archeological site or Noto. Picked up promptly by our guide Christian we traveled to visit Neapolis . I have to say this was the highlight of the day. The entry costs are €15 per person and not included as part of the tour. Well worth the money. The Greek caves, amphitheater and the Ear of Dionysus were absolutely amazing. The Roman side not so much with just the amphitheater available to view. The time at the site was 1-30 hrs . More than enough time to see everything. We then headed into Ortigia . It’s a beautiful town which although we had seen it before were more than happy to revisit. Christian was very informative regarding all the important sites we visited & we had free time to explore ourselves. Lunch was our next port of call. Average food and some wine and water. No complaints. Then to Noto. It’s a very beautiful place but basically has one Main Street on which all notable places of interest are situated. The town is very pretty & worth a visit . Not a go back again for me personally. We then returned to Catania. A thoroughly enjoyable day with a lovely knowledgeable guide . This is a definite recommend!
We had a wonderful day and all three places are well worth a visit. It was a shame the Greek Theatre was not open in Syracuse (restoration) but the rest of the site has statues and bronzes dotted throughout adding to its rich heritage. Ortygia is very pretty with lots to visit and stunning views of crystal waters. Lunch was provided and we could choose from a selection of local dishes washed down with local wine. Our final stop Noto was stunning and most places of interest are along or just off the main street. Our guide Giancarlo was very friendly and allowed us to adjust our stop times as it was sooo hot and provided us with extra cold water which was much appreciated! Thanks again 😊
I loved all of the beautiful sights we saw along the tour and the tour guide was also very friendly and told us a lot about sicilian history. One minus point was that we werent told that we had to buy museum tickets for ourselves in syracusa. But the rest was very beautiful and we enjoyed ourselves.
We were only 3 people in the group plus our driver, Angelo. I liked him very much, he was very knowledgeable and respectfull, also a very good driver who brought us back in safety to Catania. He had cold water in the van so we could refill our bottles. He was with us all along the way talking about the history of his land. This was my second tour with him and I was very pleased, he greeted me so kindly. The lunch we had was delicious and enough (a selection of different kind of meals from which you could choose) and included in the price. Noto it is just mesmerezing! I definitely recommend this tour!
Danilo was honestly the best tour guide, so friendly and filled with knowledge about the area!!! I was with my oldest daughter but I would love to bring family back to have a tour with Danilo! Every stop was breathtaking, it was spread out perfect I had anxiety with that but it was wonderful there was time for sight seeing and a mix of walking as a group at certain times. The van has AC and there was plenty of room for our party of 6. The lunch included was perfect and it was just an absolutely perfect trip! Thank you for a wonderful experience! The one thing I will mention is that we had booked with my grandmother, who is in a wheel chair and the van was too high for her to comfortably enter in and out all day so she stayed back. When we arrived to the Greek theatre I am so glad we did not attempt to bring her wheelchair. The hills were very high and there is no way we could have pushed her. I would update that this is not a wheelchair accessible tour. Regardless I would absolutely recommend this tour to most people that are able to walk a couple miles up and down hills comfortably.
The guide was very nice and quite knowledgeable. I would have liked to spend more time at Syracuse and Noto and lunch was okay. I understand the time limitations, but we could have gone to a better place to eat, I’m sure this has nothing to do with the driver.
Overall good, but a bit expensive for what you get (read below for full details). This is essentially a transfer service which you share with others. We had 6 other people with us (8 total + driver), and because the mini van wasn't very big, it was a little tight (nothing too bad, but it wasn't spacious). Your driver is not a guide, he will only give you a leaflet and will point out the entrance to attractions, he will then meet you back at a certain time and you will leave for the next destination. Our driver Antonio was great and bent over and backwards to make sure we were happy and satisfied. He cracked jokes and was generally a safe driver (by Italian standards!). Pick up from Catania wasn't rushed, which means we didn't get to the first stop until after 11am. Because of this, there was a lot of traffic. The Archaeological Park in Siracuse is very expensive and tickets are not included (16.5 euro per person). You have the option of waiting until everyone is done exploring (which I would recommend, it is so not worth it). Around 1pm Antonio took us to Ortigia in the van, so that he could point out the various spots of interest. The streets were narrow, there were lots of pedestrians, so this took a really long time. We had to fully embrace the "no rush" mentality of Italians, otherwise we would be so frustrated at how inefficiently we were using our time (driving slowly through Ortigia, instead of walking through it...). And then we turned around and went back to where we came from to have lunch. That took almost an hour... but remember, like the Italians, you are not in a rush... The lunch was great! It was in a little bakery and you could pick whatever you wanted to eat - pizza, arancini, baked aubergines, potatoes, mozarella sticks etc. (you could take ALL of this, not 1 of these things). The dish is warmed up for you and although it's not the best food you will eat in Italy it was plentiful, hot, kept us full until the evening and it was included in the price! We even got some wine to go with the lunch - amazing! Again Antonio went above and beyond. We got some coffee and a dessert and I was too full to even walk out of there ;) We then had 2h in Ortigia which didn't feel like enough time, it's such a beautiful place. Wish we had 3h to walk around instead of that drive through... but we really enjoyed our time there. We met with Antonio after our 2h were up, and we were off to Noto. We arrived around 6pm in Noto and had an hour to walk around. It's a small little town but quite cute and we enjoyed a granita on the steps. It was a relaxing end to our trip. Antonio mentioned that in the summer he changes the order of the activities so that you visit the Archaeological Park last, as it gets really hot during the day. We then got back to Catania around 8:30pm. We had to move our dinner reservation as we expected to get back much earlier, but again, Antonio was an angel and helped us with that. He was 10/10. To sum up: this is a transfer service with lunch included, no guide and no tickets to the Archaeological Park included. Give the Arch. Park a miss, it's not worth your time and money. Lunch was fab, Ortigia was fab, Noto was good, the driver Antonio was fabulous, this is a no rush trip so don't expect efficient use of time - you're on holiday!
