Itinerary
Since Greek and Roman times, the island of Ortigia has been an important commercial and cultural center. The market, with its strategic position near the port, was a meeting point for merchants from different parts of the Mediterranean. Here, not only foodstuffs such as fish, fruit, vegetables and spices were exchanged, but also different ideas and cultures.
The Temple of Apollo was built at the beginning of the 6th century BC and is the oldest example of a Doric temple in Sicily.
In the heart of Ortigia, in the center of Piazza Archimede, is the majestic Fountain of Diana, created between 1906 and 1907 by the famous Palermo sculptor Giulio Moschetti.
The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also commonly known as the Cathedral of Syracuse, stands on the foundations of an ancient Doric temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, built by the Greek-Siceliots in the 5th century BC.
This fresh water spring, located a short distance from the sea, has inspired poets and writers since ancient times. Also known as “a funtana re papiri” or “the fountain of papyrus”, the Fonte Aretusa is certainly one of the most interesting places in Ortigia.
The Archaeological Park of Neapolis, located in the north-western part of Syracuse, covers an area of approximately 240,000 square meters and is one of the largest archaeological areas in the Mediterranean.
The Greek Theatre of Syracuse, one of the most important in the world, is remembered for its grandeur since ancient times, in fact together with the theatre of Athens it was the largest theatre of ancient Greece.
The Ear of Dionysius is the most famous of the caves of the Latomia del Paradiso, dug by stone quarrymen following the limestone veins.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Lacrime in Syracuse was built following a miracle in 1953, when an effigy of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, located in the home of the Iannusos, began to weep.
The Sanctuary of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro is located just outside the walls of Syracuse and stands on the site of the martyrdom and burial of Santa Lucia, patron saint of the city.

We found the walking tour very easy to use. It covers all of the interesting sites in Ortegia. It’s nice to be able to go at your own pace.
Overall this is a good introduction to Siracusa and helpful for orientation. The guide is pretty easy to access and use and it’s a good length. We thought some of the content was a little outdated but this is perhaps inevitable. On the downside, we didn’t like the AI generated voice which led to mis-pronunciation. An Italian voice speaking English would have been much more authentically ‘local’.
I would highly recommend Oussema as a tour guide of the city. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 hr walking tour. We were only in this beautiful city for a day & came away feeling that we had a good sense of the beginning of Catania. Oussema's knowledge of the history was impressive. He was able to answer our questions without hesitation. I would recommend this tour to everyone.
This audio guide takes you past the most important features of the island Ortygia, the ancient part of the city of Syracuse.
The app was easy to set up and follow along. Being self paced was great as is the option to skip various points. Just enough information was shared at each stop to enlighten and educate. Very happy with this tour!
Easy to set up. Easy to use. My pace and my interests as I could skip options. Informative. A great self paced day.
Clear informative audio guide that was easy to use. Having individual sections was great as was the ability to replay certain sections. I did have to use alongside Google maps
The guides are full of great historical info. Easy to read when the audio goes out. Unfortunately we had the issue w the audio. The guide was very responsive when we contacted him about it
We enjoyed the 3 hour walking tour. The initial pickup as to where to get digital tour was quickly rectified. The spoken tour was extremely clear and the written text was also very helpful. This tour was significantly cheaper than similar ones that were offered on here. I would highly recommend the tour to others...
we were very disappointed in that the audio text was general and sounded like it was just AI. We were expecting a nice summary of the incredible history of the are and the key sites.
Some really useful info and a sensible route, saved us time. Good/restaurant advice good. It would have been better had we done it on our first day, as we’d already been to several of the places as we had wandered around.
Easy to use and very informative self guided walking tour.
This guide it’s extremely simple to handle, extremely helpful and gave us all we needed to explore the city. Fully recommended and price-value unbelievable. Take it!
Brilliant - a great way to learn about the history of the place you are visiting. Take it at your own pace - stop for a drink or food, without traipsing around in a large group following a flag! You also have a written version of the audio tour to refer back to - would highly recommend it
I found this self navigating tour for Siracusa. It was a lot places to cover, it included most of the highlights of the city. I successfully managed to follow the route. Generally, I would prefer more history and stories to keep it more entertaining. The good thing - you can go with your pace Overall it was satisfying! Thanks
Very brief walking tour. Would have appreciated more detailed historical and cultural info. Each stop had only about 1-2 minutes of audio or reading. Found a Rick Steves book in our hotel and got much more detailed information there. If the tour operator beefs up the content it was otherwise easy to use.
An absolutely fantastic walking tour! We managed the pace of the tour. It was a great mix of history, culture, and local stories. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the city!
The audio guide and accompanying notes were so easy to use. We were set a trail to explore the winding streets of Ortigia, stopping for as long as we wanted, pausing and revisiting as much as we wanted. So many sites were included in the tour that it felt like we were on a treasure hunt. The whole tour has been beautifully crafted and is exceptional value. Thank you so much. It was perfect for our first day in Ortigia.
Very helpful information for Neapolis Archaeological Park and all of Ortigia. Appreciate that is an audio guide and written as well.
Once I figured out the meeting point and how the "sign process worked", it was so fun. I walked at my own pace, read the all the posted information I wanted with no one hurrying me along. I know that feeling because I was a guide once. I recommend this tour.
There wasn’t any effort whatsoever put behind this audio guide. Very superficial facts from Wikipedia, zero details or specific facts that only a local would know mentioned. Absolutely useless £6 scam - I’d be ashamed to put it on sale at all. You are honestly better off wandering without any guide than with this — saves some nerves at least as some descriptions are not even accurate: for example, when the voice says about the statue near the pond it doesn’t specify that you can only see it from below — we were very lost as we stayed above and there wasn’t a word about it). Overall, a very bad AI-take on the tour, just playing with chatGPT yourself would do better and save you money.
Really useful, and easy to follow self guide/audio walking tour. Was great to do at our own pace, too.
My finance and I love doing city tours, but often struggle with in person guided tours as we like to go at our own pace, and private tours are not as affordable. This was a great way to see the city at our own speed, making our own stops along the way and weaving in and out of the beautiful side streets of Ortigia. We also loved all the suggestions for food along the way and even went to one of the restaurants for lunch, which was one of our favorite meals of the trip.
The. Audio was easy to use and gave excellent information. The descriptions were to the point and not too long. Would be easier if map and audio could be combined or more direct instructions re streets etc given Really enjoyed the Jewish ritual baths .
Worked well and good value for money.
The audio provides great information. It is also very easy to use. Covered major sites and gave a map from site to site
Informative and great value! My friend and I originally had booked a free walking tour of Syracuse/Ortigia (with another company) but it was cancelled due to not enough participants signing up. At the last minute, I found this as an alternative and I am so glad that I did. While all of the information provided in this self-guided audio tour is available online and you can use Google Maps to navigate on your own, having the navigation embedded in the tour webpage made the experience seamless. I would book this type of tour for other cities in the future!

overall, the narration was interesting, when it comes to specific monuments especially the buildings it can be confusing. The buildings tend to look alike and the photographs do not help to tell one from the other. The general introduction to the town and storytelling could be improved.
Worked great for us. Easy to use. Would recommend.
Very informative and easy to follow tour.
Nicely pacrd, very informative and took me to all the key sites in town.. a fun few hours exploring.
I like it that it was self-paced and give me a history of the island and the context of it- I recommended it to every traveller I met
I found this audio tour via TripAdvisor. My firends has booked a private tour to Siracusa/Ortigia/Notto through Viator. However, at the last minute, received the email that the tour only provided a private driver but not a guide for Siracusa Archeology park or city. Therefore, I booked the audio tour. It is pretty easy to down load the page and map. There is audio as well as written information and history of major landmarks. I did listen to it prior to our visit Siracusa Greek and Roman amphitheater etc. I found to listen to the walking tour again after visiting these landmarks to be helpful. Overall for the price, it is very good option to learn about the history of the city, land marks etc.
I found the audio guide difficult to download. It was read by an AI voice. I would not purchase again.
The audio was crystal clear, and the stories were engaging and well-produced. The GPS-triggered commentary worked perfectly—as soon as I reached a landmark, the app started talking! It felt like having a private guide in my pocket. Highly recommend if you want to see the sights without the crowd."
My first time & was very surprised at the easy and information. was just enough at each stop. The only thing is the pages seems to overlap & I jad to keep scrolling to see the info I wanted. :(
We enjoy going at our own pace and found the tour very helpful for our style of travel. We did not use the map or go in order, instead hopping around in our own order. I appreciated that this was possible. The information was great! And the price can’t be beat. A very good value.
Good value. Found some interesting places. Would buy again for another area. This box is far too long.
The tour was easy to follow, and packed with the sorts of information that a real tour guide would give. But the beauty is that you can go at your own pace (including over several days if you want) and not be part of a crowd. And it’s inexpensive.
This tour is a genius idea. You can go at your own pace instead of trailing behind the group, you can actually hear the guide’s voice and you can stop when you feel like it, have a glass of Prosecco and a siesta and then pick-up where you left off. You can spend as much time as you want finding the salamander on the UL cornice or fast forward through the things that aren’t as thrilling. It’s a perfect tour, I loved it and wish more tours like this were available! Saw everything and learned so much. Thanks again!
We did our tour over 2 days. Ortigia one day then Siracusa. It really helped us find our bearings whilst giving us information about the area. We found it really good value and enjoyed the fact we could do it on our own rather than part of a larger group.
We thoroughly enjoyed exploring at our own pace but under the expert and informative guidance of the online tour guide. It was easy to use and we had a wonderful time exploring Ortigia
We thoroughly enjoyed our self guided tour. We moved at our own pace and enjoyed all the information available to us at each destination. The admission fees were reasonable and there were no queues at this time.
Very straightforward use of the guide with the ability to pause at any time if you want to stop into any shops! A lot of interesting information about all of the stops (both audio and reading) and advice for good food in the area! Great for an inexpensive exploration of Ortigia :)
Really nice way to walk around the city in your own pace. The information was great and easy to navigate with the link to Google Maps to follow.
Excellent alternative for a very flexible and cost efficient informational self tour of Ortigia Siracusa, Sicily. I enjoy getting familiar with the cities that I visit from the center outwards and this is a perfect grounding tour. Flexibility is great because the sites can be visited at your leisure. Highly recommend this format for inexpensive and efficient briefings!
The information was very informative only issue we had was that they weren’t in order of how you saw them. The were some out of the way sites that were very interesting.
This was hands down the best self guided tour we’ve done. It was very easy to use, just click a button which takes you to Google Maps to navigate to the next point of interest. Also, there is both text and audio describing each site. Highly recommended!!
