Private City Kickstart Tour: Palermo

We had a great tour with Angela which really helped us familiarize ourselves with the old part of the city. During the 1.5 hours we learnt so much about the history of Palermo and how the various cultures which have controlled the island over the centuries can be seen in the architecture. We went to a great little church with the most amazing mosaics covering both the walls and the ceiling. Angela also recommended places for us to visit on our own. Really helpful. Communication before the tour was great as was meeting up on the day.

Learned so much history which was amazing. Wish the tour was longer. Salvatore was exceptional. He was so enthusiastic about his Sicilian life and history. Gave us some great advice for the rest of our stay.

We loved our walk with Luca. He showed us Palermo, but even more importantly, he gave us a local’s perspective about the city and what it’s like to live there. He showed us Palermo ancient and modern. His intelligence, perception and sensitivity brought Palermo alive.

Let me start by saying that our only regret is that we didn't discover the opportunity to do this 'introductory' guided walking tour earlier in our stay! By the time we approached Michelangelo online to enquire about this walking tour we had already been staying in Palermo for several days. However, unlike most other cities we've experienced, we still felt as though we were missing certain important understandings which could help us to form connections with Palermo. Yet in the relatively short time of our excursion together, Michelangelo revealed the wonderful fusion of cultures and many-layered histories which form the complex city of contrasts that Palermo is today. This was no template tour. Michelangelo absolutely tailored the tour to our needs, even responding to our interests by revising his initial itinerary as we walked. Seeing features of this amazing city through Michelangelo's eyes really brought Palermo alive for us! We covered some new ground as well as some streets and features that had become somewhat familiar to us. It was fascinating how revisiting some of the places we'd been - (and places we'd walked past without seeing) - caused us to look more closely and with new eyes when Michelangelo explained their histories and significance. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening tour. We found Michelangelo to be genuine, knowledgeable, kind, and good company. He speaks English to a high standard, which enhanced our experiences and understandings. It was an added pleasure meeting Michelangelo's lovely girlfriend and discovering her perspectives on the city as well. After the tour had ended we finished our evening at a restaurant in an area shown to us along the way. We had the best meal out we'd had since arriving in Palermo. Thank you so much, Michelangelo. Karolina was perfect for what we were looking for. Her knowledge of the history, architecture and culture was extensive. We loved talking to her about her adopted city and appreciated her insights. This guided tour was such a great way to unlock a new, more informed look at Palermo and its rich history. Salvatore was very friendly and knowledgeable about his home town. He explained the city's layout and architecture from a historical perspective, which all makes sense as you wander through the different areas on your own later. He also surprised us with some interesting details that we had literally walked straight past earlier because we didn't know about them. As this is a private tour it makes for a more personal and tailored experience, and you can stand close enough to hear each other speak (Palermo is not a quiet city!). At the end of our stay in Palermo, I asked my family about their highlights of the week, and everyone agreed Salvatore's tour came out on top. I really recommend taking this tour at the beginning of your stay, it will only enrich the rest of it. Grazie, Salvatore!

Luca was extremely knowledgeable about the city, he was also friendly and funny. We enjoyed learning about the city with him so later in the week we could go back for a more in depth look. I spent 2 hours with Loredana who pointed out the main sites of interest in Palermo. She is proud of her city and it shows. I later went back to spend time at the places I was interested in. We stopped for granita at a great place near the Royal Palace and she gave me the name of a lovely restaurant where I had dinner one night. I was travelling solo and the tour helped me to find my way around the city.

We did this tour just a couple of hours after arriving in the city. It was a great way to get our bearings and our guide was exceptionally friendly and informative. So passionate about his city. A great start to our trip.

Very good walking tour introduction to Palermo with guide Karolina. Saw many of the important buildings in historic center with good background on history and culture. Definitely worthwhile and enjoyable.

They cancelled our private tour just before we were due to meet. We were offered the same tour the following evening which was no use to us.

The tour company cancelled our tour less than 3 hours before it was to start. We were unable to schedule a tour with another group for the same day. It was too late. We were only in Palermo 1 day and very disappointed. The company should have found another guide for us. The reservation for the tour was made several weeks ago. Find another group if you want to really have a guided tour in Palermo. Can’t depend on this group. They offered a tour for the next day but people make plans when traveling and can’t change them based on the tour company. We were leaving Palermo the next day. Arrivederci to this group.

A great tour and a fantastic introduction to Palermo. We did this tour the day we arrived in the city, and it helped us make the most of our week there. Well worth the money and lots of fun.

There were four of us who went on a three hour walking tour with Karolina. we saw most of the major sites and enjoyed some of the local food. Karolina is knowledgeable about most everything in Palermo. She’s an experienced guide and traveler. She speaks four languages. She is enthusiastic about her work. We were never bored. All four of us were unanimous in our opinion that Karolina did an excellent job and was well worth the price for the tour.

Top Tour through Palermo! Karolina was a great host , very nice, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We enjoyed looking at Palermo through her eyes. Her „history lesson“ helped us understand the city. We will book a tour with her again next time we‘ll be in Palermo.

We booked a walking tour with Karolina for the evening we arrived and it was incredible. Book with her and you won't regret it. It was as if we were walking through the city with an old friend. Karolina knows Palermo and tailored the tour to our interests and needs. She was wonderfully flexible and she showed us all the sites to visit and had recommendations for concerts and cultural events that were going on while we were here. The context she provided us gave us a greater appreciation, understanding and desire to dive deeper into what it means to be Sardinian--from Palermo. A fabulous tour and experience.

We organised a tour with Marina at short notice. She was able to meet us at a time and place suitable for us. My tour with Guiseppe was just what I had hoped to get. I arrived in the evening and we had a tour straight away. Giuseppe has vast knowledge about his city. With him you get to see the highlights of Palermo and some hidden gems. He gives great advice on what food to try and what to see and how to get around. I needed a quick introduction to Palermo and I got it

If you want a good local guide that doesn't break the bank, I recommend Aurora. Our family of 4 had a most pleasant and enjoyable day with her when our cruise boat docked in Palermo for the day. Aurora was cheerful, friendly and enthusiastic and related well to every family member. We all loved her and I highly recommend her services.

My family had the pleasure of having Aurora takes us on a 90-minute walking tour of Palermo in January, 2020. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Palermo, very passionate, and fun. Her enthusiasm for Palermo was very infectious and we all had an amazing time. She even showed us a few additional sites that were not in the tour itinerary. A few other notes - we had our three year old with us and at times he would start acting up. Aurora was really great at handling him and she was very understanding and flexible dealing with the situation. Our son definitely likes her a lot! Our 90-minute tour turned into a 2.5 hour tour and she didn't miss a beat. She's also very communicative and helpful before and after the tour. It's very easy to reach her and ask her questions. Even after the tour, she offered to help if we needed any help or have any additional questions. We really appreciated her. Finally, she speaks English very well. Overall, we highly recommend Aurora. She's very knowledgeable, fun, great with kids, and very genuine. All three of us loved her and we would definitely take another tour with her if/when we come back to beautiful Sicily.
