Itinerary
The opera teathre of Palermo is famous as the location of the most dramatic scene of The Godfather III. Anyway, this monument is also a symbol of the rebirth of the city after decades of Mafia violence.
The longest wall painting in Italy (70 meters long) represents some of the most known mafia victims and is part of an urban renovation project. It is both the chance to become familiar with the victims' faces and to shoot some good pictures!
The colorful old open-air market is the perfect place to understand better the relationship between the Mafia and shopkeepers while walking through one of the most interesting and loud areas of the city.
Piazza della Memoria, by the Palerm Court House, is a Memorial dedicated to judges and prosecutors killed by the Mafia.
In front of the spectacular Arab-Norman Cathedral, the guide will talk about the relationship between the Catholic Church and the Mafia
Along the Cassaro, you will come across with an orange sticker on their windows. Their owners - like this famous gelato place - have said NO to paying the extortion racket, or ‘pizzo’, and have joined the mafia-free critical consumption campaign promoted by the grassroots movement Addiopizzo. You too have the chance to stop and support them with some “good” shopping!
The City Hall of Palermo has been the seat of corrupted politicians, as well as of the ones who have been fighting against the Mafia.

Valeria was an incredible guide—so knowledgeable and very passionate about her city. We loved the tour and learned so much. Would highly recommend.
Good info and nice guide but too quick a pace then long stretches standing up listening to the guide speak. Not great wading thru a downpour at the same time.
No one could understand the tour guide. I grew up with Italians and couldn’t understand him either. Our tour group was split into two so half went with one guy at half went with another. I attempted to go over to the other guide group tosee if I could understand better. Our tour guy got very mad and very rude with me and was quite upset that I went to the guide. He did apologize at the end of our tour, which was only two hours long instead of three. to be fair it was raining hard at times so I’m sure that’s why the tour length was reduced.
Important insights into the culture history and people. The resistance and bravery had something to say to lots of communities worldwide.
Three hour tour and class on the history of the anti mafia folks. Very caring and knowledgeable guide.. more stories than sites
Our guide was fantastic! She was friendly, detailed on all areas and could communicate with everyone in the group! Excellent tour!well worth it!
Great tour very informative and insightful, well worth it.
Absolute must when you visit Palermo and want to learn more about the initiatives taken against the maffia. Very informative and Giuseppe was super knowledgeable!
If you’re going to have tours of at least 16 people, you should provide earphones. It was hard to hear the guide at times which we missed some key facts. The tour guide Celia was excellent as she knew her history. It was just difficult to hear sometimes because group was too big. Company should provide earphones when group is bigger than 8 people. Great history of how the No mafia worked and how the mafia controlled the area until late 90s.
We have done many tours in many cities. This was perhaps the very best. Excellent guide was Attilio. Fascinating and he knew so much history.
Very educational and enlightning regarding the influence of the Sicilian mafia both in the past and present.
The tour could have been good but the group was too big to hear the guide. The use of earbuds would help this problem.
What an incredible insightful morning. Our family learnt so much, and both 15y and 12y were very engaged and interested throughout the whole tour, credit to Federico our brilliantly knowledgeable tour guide. This is a must do while in Palermo.
The rain did not dampen this fantastic experience! Federico's knowledge and personal insights gave me a much better understanding of the history of the Mafia and it's effect on all parts society to the present day. His passion for the growth of the anti-mafia culture was clear. A hugely educational tour, it has left me wanting to learn more. Thank you!
It is very much about the anti mafia movement. Very interesting. The guide, Hermes was passionate about his subject and kept us all entranced. A fantastic speaker.
Attilio was so passionate and knowledgeable. The 3 hours flew by and his stories and facts were very interesting. I would recommend this tour as you learn so much about a subject that is integral to Sicilian history
This was an excellent tour, a little different than your typical food or culture tour. There’s some history, some contemporary issues, walking around Palermo, and visiting a few important places. Our guide also stopped in a local store where we were able to ask questions and see how no mafia has evolved over time. It was about 3 hours, and then you could revisit some of the areas after it was over. Very easy to coordinate getting to the meeting point. Not great for anyone who can’t walk/stand for long periods. The pace was slow and easy to manage. Good value for the price.
Really worth doing to better understand the past and current situation with the Mafia and how things have changed for the better.
Stefano, our guide, gave an excellent tour. He was knowledgeable, kind, spoke English well, and shared personal experiences that enhanced our immersion into the story of the no mafia movement. We learned a good deal about the system of “protection” and the courage of those who have worked towards bringing dignity to the Sicilian people. I highly recommend Stefano and this tour.
Knowledgable guide with a genuine interest in the subject. An educational and interesting tour. Would recommend.
Very interesting tour, with guide very knowledgeable and made the experience enjoyable
Really interesting insight into the mafia and its effects on Sicily as well as the changes made over time to try and counter the influence. Our guide Veronica was really knowledgeable, committed and able to answer any questions.
The tool was very informative, interesting and presented with humour albeit a serious subject. The guide knew her stuff and even stayed longer. A worthy endeavour and we recommend it.
Laura was brilliant Brought the town and its history to life Highly recommended
An excellent tour with Hermes. He was an excellent guide with a most engaging style of delivery . information was detailed and interesting with a good sprinkle of humorous banter attached.
Umberto was our guide, superb, very informative, told us all the history of the Mafia. We both totally enjoyed the experience.
Very disappointing tour. I had read good reviews and heard positive things from friends who had been on the tour, but we had a terrible guide. He spoke poor English and had trouble using the microphone. The tour was far too long as the commentary was repetitive. Could have been done in half the time. It’s a shame as it’s a fascinating topic and positive story about standing up to corruption.
Marinella delivered an excellent and insightful tour. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject were evident, and she offered a unique perspective on the history of the Mafia that made the experience especially engaging. We greatly enjoyed the tour and came away having learned a great deal.
Brilliant tour! Such important history to learn more about and expand past reductive stereotypes of mafia in italy to understand the realities of the impact on people's daily lives in the past and still now. I'm really glad I did this tour while in Palermo!
Umberto was knowledgeable and had a real interest in the subject. Felt that we learnt a lot in a fun way.
Great tour with historical perspective of the intimidating tactics that Mafia uses to get business owners to pay for protection. Then how that turns into those families voting as determined by the Mafia boss for representatives and political power for the Mafia. Very informative and educational.
Our guide, Silvia, was extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the no Mafia cause and the effects of the Mafiosa on the local communities. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and thought it was extremely good value. There were around 25 people booked on the trip however the group was split into two groups, with two guides, which felt more personal.
Sylvia was very knowledgeable and engaging! We learned a lot about this tour and appreciated her sharing personal family stories too. We recommend for anyone visiting Palermo.
I booked the tour and was really looking forward to a three hour and quite expensive tour for a very cool topic (normally on these types of tours you give as much you value the tour at the end). The guide Marinella could not provide a coherent presentation of the information. There is so much that could be told about Mafia and Sicily's struggle with it,but it seemed to me that the guide didn't even read the Wikipedia page about cosa nostra. It seemed to me she was freestyling her answers and gave just general overall answers. She was jumping from one topic to another, contradicting herself with no clear line. Typical for a tourist scam we were taken to a market and told to buy stuff. Maybe the screaming of the maker guys impressed some of the newly arrived tourist. At this time two people were forgotten there and had to make to the group later. For me unacceptable. For the quality of the tour the price is a total rip off. Maybe I would have given max 5 Euro out of courtecy at the end. I would recommended the guides to structure their information better and not just put anyone out there just because they are local believing the can present. I am sorry I lost three hours of my time in Palermo that I could have used so much better on my own.
The tour could’ve probably been half the length it was, it mainly just felt like a long lecture I kind of expected to see more historical sites. We would spend half an hour sitting in one location and toward the end I definitely caught myself losing focus. The tour was interesting but I wish it was more interactive.
Guide was extremely knowledgeable and passionate (a member of the AddioPizzo group). Tour was very interesting and well worth the time spent.
Not much walking lots is talking! Unless you are into the workings of the mafia then an now I would not recommend
Our guide, Marianella was interesting, knowledgeable and provided a very interesting perspective of the mafia in Palermo. She answered questions and presented historical information in an interesting manner.
A fantastic and informative tour. Thoroughly recommend
The most interesting way to see Palermo. Our eyes were opened to see things we would not have known without this tour. It was well structured, fascinating and had a strong personal touch. Valeria was a wonderful guide and it was great to hear her perspectives. Would recommend highly. Thank you.
This was a very informative tour. We learnt a great deal and were very impressed by the 'No Mafia' initiatives. Our guide was ready to answer any questions, easy to follow and really passionate about the cause. We followed the tour up by visiting some of the places he said were part of the Addiopizzo movement.
Lovely experience. .Tour guide very knowledgable. Run by a not for profit, which I liked. Supporting anti mafia.
The tour was excellent, very informative and inspiring. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Palermo who wants to learn more about the tumultuous history of the mafia in Sicily and how the locals are pushing back against it. Our guide was extremely kind and passionate about the subject.
We had Frederico as our guide and he was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate. Very detailed histories and explanations of organised crime structures in Sicily. We also had a lovely cheeky stop for cremino caffe in the market.
The tour was very informative and interesting. Our guide was passionate about the anti mafia movement and expressed his feelings in a very moving way.
Good guide Giuseppe engaged with a NGO fighting mafia
Good informational tour about the history of Palermo and Sicily and the impact of the mafia. However, we felt the tour was a little long and the presentation somewhat long-winded.
Excellent and informative tour. We learned a lot about the history of the mafia and the efforts taken to change the culture.
This was a really interesting tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject and really bought it to life. It was very authentic and has left me wanting to return to Palermo. Our kids were with us (14 and 17) and they found it harder to stick with, as they had very little awareness of the subject. They do now!
