We spent two days touring with Mauro and Palermo Wonders, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the experience. Mauro is incredibly knowledgeable about Sicily, its history and culture, but what makes him truly special is who he is as a person. He is warm, genuine, engaging, funny and incredibly generous with his knowledge. Nothing ever felt like a rehearsed tour. It felt like spending the day with a local friend who genuinely wanted us to understand and fall in love with his home. I was traveling with a group, and Mauro connected beautifully with everyone. He was attentive to the group, flexible when needed, and somehow managed to make two days of touring feel relaxed and personal. By the end of our time together, none of us wanted to say goodbye. As a travel advisor, I am very particular about the guides I trust with my clients, and Mauro is someone I would recommend without hesitation. I will absolutely work with him again, both for clients traveling independently and for future groups I bring back to Sicily. Mauro, thank you for sharing your Sicily with us. You made our time here incredibly special, and I’m so grateful to now have a friend in Palermo.

We loved both our tours with Marcella and Mauro! Initial communication was easy and clear, with all the logistical details spelled out. Marcella is an *ace* at navigating around the hordes of tourists and fantastically knowledgeable about the sites and the city-- plus she knows everyone! I'm pretty sure we were with the real Palermo royalty... Her brother Mauro was a delight in Monreale and likewise really made the mosaics and history of the Cathedral come alive. We'd go back to Sicily just to see them! (P.S. I'm still dreaming about the granita that Marcella recommended. The best!)
Knowledgeable and accommodating. Great sense of humor with all ages.
Amazing tour!!! Alberto was a great guide. Highly recommend
Alberto gave a fun tour that was very entertaining and educational. He answered all of our questions and kept the tour interesting even in the heat.
We had such a wonderful time exploring Palermo with Mauro! He knows the city incredibly well and brought its history, culture and hidden corners to life in a way that felt engaging and personal, rather than like a typical sightseeing tour. What we enjoyed just as much was Mauro himself. He is warm, charismatic and genuinely funny, and we found ourselves laughing throughout the day. He created such a relaxed atmosphere that it felt more like spending the day with a knowledgeable local friend than being on a guided tour. Mauro showed us a side of Palermo we would probably never have discovered on our own, with plenty of interesting stories, local insights and great recommendations along the way. If you are looking for someone who knows Palermo, is passionate about his city and knows how to make the experience both enriching and fun, we would absolutely recommend Mauro. Thanks Mauro for the fun time together!
Marcella was our guide and she was fantastic! She was full of knowledge and kept us moving the entire time so get your comfortable shoes on! We saw history, local culture and a feel for Palermo when we were finished. I highly recommend this tour!
Terrific guide would recommend
It was not our first time we had a private tour, we had many before, and I would like to say that Mauro was one of the best tour guides. Not only his knowledge but also love to his city made us fall in love with Palermo. He showed us the places and streets we would have never found ourselves. He also has a great personality, cares about your needs and caters to your interests. If you are in Palermo, he should be your guide!
Very knowledgeable! We loved Mauro’
Exceptional walking tour there is a lot to see and a lot to know and we were given both so informative great way to learn about Palermo!!
It was our first time in Sicily and we wanted to immerse ourselves in Palermo’s rich history and culture. Mauro was an amazing and very knowledgeable tour guide! In addition to the famous sites, we ventured off the beaten path to see Palermo through the eyes of a local, just as it should be experienced. Mauro had such a warm, inviting personality. I would highly recommend him to anyone visiting Palermo.
If you’re looking for a truly local expert, who’s extremely knowledgeable and a wonderful story-teller, Mauro should be your choice! My husband and I travel quite a bit and have come to recognize the importance of a private tour guide. Mauro exceeded our expectations! He was flexible with our schedule, and he was a great communicator throughout the whole process. Highly, highly recommend!
They were the best guides. Very friendly and informative.
We had Mauro as a guide and he was brilliant and gave us a complete historical overview of Palermo and Sicily. We learnt a lot and he had lots of anecdotes and explanations about the many cultures and how Palermo was ruled over the centuries. He also took us to a haven of peace in the bustling town to have a Granita. We would highly recommend this private tour and our only regret was not to have him when we went to Monreale (on his recommendations). Thank you Mauro!!
The walking tours of palermo and Monreale were exceptional as any i have taken anywhere. Alberto and Mauro are knowledgeable , warm and a pleasure to be with . Highest recommendation
Mauro is an amazing tour guide!!We scheduled a morning tour of the Monreale Cathedral and an afternoon tour of the historic district of Palermo. His extensive knowledge and interesting stories made our tour an extremely enlightening and fascinating experience. In Monreale he went out of his way to take us to his favorite local bakery for lunch where we enjoyed some unique and delicious Sicilian food. The day just flew by. We learned so many amazing things and heard so many interesting stories. Thanks to Mauro Palermo is now one of our favorite Italy destinations.
Mauro is an outstanding tour guide. It isn't simply that he has a thorough knowledge of Palermo, or that he has a wonderful sense of humor, he wants to know what you are interested in and focuses the tour on those interests. We saw amazing Palermo sights we would have missed without his guidance. He offered advice on where to eat and other sights to see in the greater area. By the end of the tour we felt we had made a new friend.
Mauro was amazing. It was incredibly helpful to have his insider tips and vast knowledge of history and culture for our brief stay in Palermo. He is obviously well respected and introduced us to locals he knew all along the way.
Alberto made our Palermo experience come to life! From the delicious local food restaurant to the interesting descriptions if past and present Palermo, we had a great day!!
Our guide Mauro was a delight. He reached out directly to suggest adjusting our time to avoid rain - which we greatly appreciated. He gave us a great orientation to Palermo. And… on New Year’s Eve! Mauro was very professional, engaging and informative. Very good English language proficiency. Friendly.
Mauro our tour guide in English in Palermo was very professional and friendly providing us lots of historical and useful information about the city. This was very appreciated by our entire team composed of people if different EU Nationalities. Thanks Mauro and we would not hesitate in contacting you again. Pamela
Doing this in English even if we have the tour with Mauro in German. Booked a four hours tour for Palermo. Never had this kind of professionalism on a tour. Mauro is fluent in German, Spanish(studied) and English. We have seen parts of Palermo normal tours would no do. You can book a tour as long as you wish. In any case worth! We can suggest Mauro and would book him anyway if we will be in Palermo again-and we will! Thanks Mauro for your time and professionality as well as your friendly way to show your special town. Well done
An easy communication via email and WhatsApp with Marcella led to her meeting us at our hotel for a wonderful morning tour around Palermo. It was like meeting an old friend and we spent a lovely morning chatting away and learning so many interesting things about Palermo’s rich history. Marcella took us to the Parliament building which was stunning and she took the time to explain the history of the art we were seeing, but in an easy way to digest. We then finished the tour with a coffee and a granita with many ideas of what to do for the rest of the day. Would highly recommend Marcella for a private tour. Thank you 🙏
Mauro was a great guide! He was extremely knowledgeable about Palermo and showed us parts of the city that we probably never would have seen, giving interesting information along the way. We definitely recommend joining him to see and learn more about this bustling city!
Excellent tour covering Palermo’s history and culture. Our guide was phenomenal and helped bring so much of Palermo to life.
It was very informative and tailored to our interests. MAURO was a fantastic and intelligent Tour Guide who really knew Palermo‘s history. He took us down back alleys to avoid tourists, and showed us hidden gems off the beaten path, as well as the famous places. He also waited patiently in line with us so we purchase cannolis….
Dear Marcella Amatto, Thank you so much for the wonderful time that you gave us in Sicily. Your knowledge had to be heard, to be believed, and coupled with your humour, made our trip to Palermo, memorable. We missed you when we left for Catania. All the best, Philippa Cooper
Our guide, Mauro, was absolutely fantastic. He was friendly, personable, and enthusiastic about his City. We got a good history lesson, saw historically significant venues and enjoyed what the historic district had to offer. Mauro also provided us with recommendations for several restaurants and points of interest not covered in the tour. We had a great time and really appreciated his time. Highly recommended!
Mauro was amazing from start to finish! He met us at our hotel and we set off to see the city. It was a busy day with two cruise ships in town, so he asked with our permission, if he could take us to his favorite gems off the beaten path. We had the best time with no crowds, saw a spectacular baroque church with wonderful marble work (better than the cathedral!) and a fabulous art museum/palace with lots of other sights along our way. It was so worth trusting his instincts and we couldn’t have had a better time with such a wonderful guy. Thank you!!
Alberto was the most excellent guide, the perfect blend of history and modern culture. His depth of knowledge was unmatched and he welcomed all questions of which I had plenty! We ended our time with lunch at the Capo market and we thoroughly enjoyed Alberto’s food selections. This is a HIGHLY recommend for Alberto. 👍🏼🇮🇹
If you are looking for a personalised walking tour of historic Palermo, then book Marcella Amato, she was great. We were a group of 5 friends interested in the history and architecture of the city. We didn't want to be part of a large group not being able to hear what the guide was saying. Palermo is a very busy, noisy city, so we were delighted when Marcella took us off the beaten track to interesting locations where we could he her and we could ask questions. Marcellas' knowledge is amazing and brought the culture and history of the city to life. Don't be part of the herd. Have a local with a passion for their birth city show you around, and you won't regret it.
Mauro made it special for us. He tailored the tour according our request while making it very informative and entertaining. Highly recommend.
Absolutely loved our first day in Palermo thanks to Mauro! He's one of those rare guides who combines deep local knowledge, with an effortless feel. We discovered wonderful tucked away corners of Palermo that we never would have discovered otherwise. Spending the day with Mauro didn’t feel like a tour - it felt like wandering around with a friend from Palermo. We highly recommend to anyone interested in a special day!
I can’t possibly say enough good things about Mauro. On our first day in Palermo, he designed a tour that suited the two of us to perfection. Mauro shared the history, as well as all the perfectly imperfect nooks and crannies of Palermo. He also gave us suggestions for the rest of our stay. Grazia Mauro
Mauro picked us up promptly at 10a. We spent the morning discovering the hidden corners of Palermo. The Oratorio of San Lorenzo was amazing. Some churches had amazing mosaics and lots of history. We learned so much! Monreale Cathedral was amazing- so intricate with so many Bible stories in mosaic. Just amazing ! Lunch was at a cozy, off the beaten path restaurant. Perfect for a hot day! When Mauro and the taxi driver dropped us off, we felt we had a friend in Palermo. Bravo! Thanks for a wonderful day!
A fantastic experience, accompanied by Alberto, a knowledgeable and kind guide, capable of conveying in just a few hours the centuries-old history of this wonderful city, rich in culture and traditions, capturing the attention of some of us with pleasant brief chats about our mutual life experiences. A true professional!
Personalized tour with great review of history and architecture while walking around and inside buildings. We were also given tips regarding where to go for other activities and views
Learned a great deal of history of Palermo and enjoyed our guide. The churches he took us to were beautiful.
We booked a private tour and Mauro met us at our hotel and showed us the sights of Palermo. He was excellent and first took us to Palazzo Butera, where he showed us around and was incredibly knowledgeable about the whole place. We went at 10am and had the place to ourselves for the first hour! Then we visited Monastero Santa Catarina D’Alessandria and Chiesa Della Martorana, where he explained the history and wonderful and interesting factoids! I would highly recommend this tour - Mauro is a lovely guide and made it such a great experience!
Mauro was our guide for a walking tour of historic Palermo. He was engaging with a steady flow of interesting stories and facts allowing us to fully appreciate the history of Palermo and Sicily on the whole. I highly recommend booking a tour with him!
We had the opportunity of spending the day with Maurico exploring the heart of Palermo, and truly unforgettable. Maurico brought history to life with stories and insights that made each stop not just a destination, but a vivid experience. We began at the Mercato del Capo, where the sounds, scents, and flavors of the market were complemented by Maurico’s stories about local food traditions and culture. At the Cathedral of Palermo, he helped us appreciate the layered history. Truly, a blend of Norman, Moorish, Gothic, and Baroque influences reflecting Sicily’s rich past. Wandering through the Quattro Canti (Four Corners), we see the perfect symmetry and the symbolic representation of Palermo's four historic districts. The nearby Fontana della Vergogna (“Fountain of Shame”) became more than just a photo spot thanks to Maurico’s tales of politics, art, and mischief. At Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria and Church of Saint Cataldo his explanations helped us understand their contrasting architecture and religious significance. We even had the chance to learn about the City Hall Archive, a hidden gem of civic history, often missed by visitors. Our tour ended at the charming Piazza Marina, where centuries of stories—from inquisitions to liberation—echo through the trees and palazzos. It was the perfect place to pause and reflect on a city bursting with culture, contradictions, and charm. Maurico is more than a guide – he’s a passionate storyteller who helps you see what most would simply overlook. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to connect deeply with Palermo and its soul.
Absolutely loved our time in Palermo thanks to Marcella! She’s one of those rare guides who combines deep local knowledge, effortless charm, and genuine passion for her city. With her, everything feels easy — she knows everyone, and her connections open up the kind of experiences you just wouldn’t find on your own. She has that perfect mix of warmth, common sense, and storytelling that makes every moment feel meaningful! Spending the day with Marcella doesn’t feel like a tour — it feels like wandering around with a friend who’s letting you in on all of Palermo’s best-kept secrets. You leave not only knowing the city better, but falling a bit more in love with it too.
Marcella was the best!! As soon as we were picked up by her at our hotel we could tell she would be a great guide. She immediately showed her bubbly personality, being so glad that me and my girlfriend were taking a guided tour being so young. She took us all around the city on foot, telling us about its fascinating history and giving us many opportunities to experience its cuisine. She was very patient taking many photos of me and my girlfriend! I would definitely book this tour if you have the chance! (También habla un español increíble y sin acento. Uno diría que es nacida y criada en Madrid!)
Historic Palermo is a complex area.. I can’t imagine trying to find all that is hiding without a knowledgeable guide. Mauro was excellent, showing us highlights we never would have found on our own. His historic connection was an excellent addition to the sights.
Very insightful tour of Palermo’s historic center. Our guide, Mauro, was excellent and was very knowledgeable. Our best guided tour In Sicily.
This was an amazing walking tour with Mauro! He was very knowledgeable with a gracious and leisurely manner of presentation as we strolled through the Palermo historic highlights. We loved his personal insights. We even stopped to have a coffee at a friend’s shop, and afterwards also got fresh Cannoli at the coveted cloister of Chiesa di Santa Caterina where we ended our tour. This was the perfect way to be introduced to Palermo!
Marcella confirmed pickup the night before by WhatsApp and was right on time. She was friendly and knowledgeable throughout our time together and went out of her way to customize the walk to focus on things of interest to us. Her restaurant recs and the additional museum she suggested we do on our own were all spot on! I would recommend her without any doubt. Friendly, funny, and smart. Perfect introduction to our time in Sicily.
Mauro was an amazing tour guide with an excellent command of history. We felt that he made the most of our three hour tour by focusing on the most interesting aspects of Palermo. He was enthusiastic , fun to be around , responsive to our questions, and overall it was an excellent introduction to the city. Highly recommend.
We took a tour with Mauro and it was wonderful. He’s is a very friendly and knowledgeable guide- we highly recommend to do a tour with him.
