Although it wasn't a great weather day, it was a Great experience. Glad to see that they supplied boots and coats for the walk up.

It was amazing. We got to walk on 5 day old ground. Very informative guide on the walk about! Remember to keep tract of your ticket for the gondola ride down.
This was an awesome visit to Mount Etna. Our trip was lucky enough to go when Mount Etna has a period of about 24 hours of inactivity. Tours on the day before us and the day after were cancelled. It was great to get up there and experience Etna!!
Got there early (9am) and parking was easy. In fact we managed to park in the white bays which are free! Had trouble finding the EtnaTribe chalet to exchange our voucher for lift passes. Could not find anywhere. We asked lots of locals who were helpful and sent us to the cable car. This was incorrect. A lovely young Italian lady who spoke English eventually took us to an unmarked black door. Through the door was an office where we could get our lift passes and 4x4 tickets. Very confusing and unmarked. Thank goodness for the young lady. The actual experience was amazing. Cable car great. 4x4 great. Our tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. All in all a fantastic experience after we had eventually obtained our tickets.
Arrived at a very busy car park but managed to find a parking place. Found the chairlift and had barcode and online…. BUT this was not acceptable. We had to go back to a special office ( which was difficult to find) see. In a small room and paper tickets issued. Them go back to cable at queue. This delayed us by 20/30 mins and was a bit of a faff. After this the cable car experience was great. A bit of a wait for 4x4. Our guide Guiseppe was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and spoke good English. The walk was steep and lasted about 45 mins. We took it easy and stopped for photos etc which helped pace ourselves. We saw the smoking craters and the remains of a lava flow 10 days previously. An experience not to miss. Can’t describe the stark black landscape… lunar like!
Poor communication and I asked for a refund after they said I was a no show after waiting 3 hours on line with the ticket pass they sent me(.they told me at the gate our tickets were cancelled) I called and the man was rude and then we had to rebuy new tickets to get it! And wait a few days for my refund. I would never rebook with them again, poor business!
The actual experience wasn’t bad, once we figured out where to check in. The people at Mt Etna said that Viator is mixed up and doesn’t give people information that is correct for checking in. No lines for tickets - just buy them when you arrive - much simpler.
I enjoyed the ride, very comfortable. However, I mistook my QR code for ticket, went thru line (about 40+minutes) and got to scanner to get on and was directed back to ticket office to get “official” ticket. Guess I missed that I needed something other than code. Got it worked out and enjoyed my experience.
We were lucky- during a mostly cloudy period that week, our trip hit a clear patch- the cable car ride was beautiful and comfortable and the views, because they were clear, were fantastic- Mt. Etna had been erupting over the past days and there was a black plume and a white plume of smoke coming from it. Then it clouded over and nothing could be seen.
I don't feel the cost of $55 euros is a good value. If you have ever taken a cable car ride before for other view vantage points you will be disappointe in this one. The base village is at 1900 meters and you ride up to 2500 meters. When you get there, there is just black gravel like land and small hills---really boring. The views are fine except it is hazy so hard to make out much. The best part of this visit is the souvenir shops at the base village (about 10 of them) are very good and inexpensive.
Met all our expectations. Easy parking (free). Short walk to cable car, then 4x4 esperience was well organised, short trek was great for getting good views fortunately we had good clear weather. It was a little difficult to get our tickets, queues had just started and it was not clear where we collected them from (not the normal ticket window) but an office at the rear of ticket hut.
Great experience! The views are breathtaking and the information provided by the guide were extensive. And in in english too! :) However there is no skip of the line at the cable car nor at the bus. And you have to change the online trip advisor ticket with their ticket.
difficult to work out how to get to cable car but word of mouth got us to bus six in catania the sheet we had needed to verified but it then did not include buses to top we had to pay 52 euros to get on bus but cable car and bus were good but very cold ray
Amazing experience Took the chairlift to 1600 and hiked up from there Lunar experience Well earned food in cafe was top notch and vert reasonably priced
The cable car was a great place to start and thearea around the craters mind blowing, but leave yourself plenty of time to reach the starting / meeting point very near Refuggio Sapienza.. not Etna Nord!!
Cable car was ok. The windows could do with a clean. There were no queues. Quite straight forward. You have to pay for toilets so be prepared. Etna is beautiful but I wish we had paid for a trip further up. All very expensive but once in a lifetime experience so worth it.
Couldn’t ride cable cars due to a recent eruption despite travelling all the way there. No email telling us it was called off as they were still debating whether they could reopen the cars whilst we were there. Staff were very helpful though and helping us get refunded on everything. Should’ve checked the news the morning of and still had a lot of fun at the 1900m marker but an email would’ve been nice updating us on everything going on.
The tour by itself was great however. No need to pre purchase this and not be able to cancel it. Even with this ticket you must stand in the long line and exchange the paper ticket to an actual ticket. ( the barcode has no use)Price is the same and we lost an hour. Get the cable car and the bus tour toogether but dont buy any extra guide as it comes with guides who takes you to the top and explain everything Dress warm and not in a white shoe
Excellent day. Cable car and 4x4 bus all booked in advance, and timing worked great. Our guide was very knowledgable and ready to answer all questions.
We booked this tour ahead of time so we would not have to wait in line. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We ended up having to wait on line.
Don’t buy this trip. Etna is amazing but you may as well buy your ticket there. There is no skip the line. As a fellow traveller said - no skip just chaos You have to wait in line to swap your internet code for a physical ticket which you need to enter the cable car. We thought the instructions weee vague about where to go for skip the line - and it was because it didn’t exist. Allow an extra half & hour & keep your money until Sicily.
Etna was great. Paying with Viator to escape the queue was pointless because the process of getting the tickets on Etna took far longer than if we had paid with cash on the day. Furthermore, using the App was very painful because the creators assumed that you have email on your phone, which I don't.
Ticket / QR code would not appear or work after purchase at hotel or ticket counter. Had to rebook on the spot for the experience. Viator would not issue any type of refund. Experience on site was wonderful. Just would recommend booking directly through Funivia dell'Etna.
This is more of an FYI about the times shown as available because it is a bit misleading. I was really excited about doing this activity but contacted the operator to ensure we would be able to since we wouldn't arrive in Catania until 1pm. I had booked it because it was an open ticket and opening hours are 8:30-4. I was told we would have to be there by 2 and that the commute from the airport to Mt. Etna was approximately an hour, so we likely wouldn't be able to do the tour that day. Unfortunately, that's our only day in Catania, so I canceled. Bummed.
Great experience & what a thrill! Fun winding drive up to base, then gondola up, & then heavy duty bus ride up even further! (Glad we did the bus, as hiking would've taken awhile...) Exciting 40 minute hike last of the way to a crater rim! Awesome info & help from our guide Marco. Tix about $260 overall for 3 of us, & worth every penny.
Small eruption when at top, views wonderful, cable car not operating. Eat first as you’ll get hungry.
wonderful experience with first rate guide. Francesco was outstanding - informative and great sense of humor.
Our EtnaTribe tour experience was wonderful! Our guide Daria was super friendly and very informative, she is also concerned about how we felt we were driving on a road uphill, also i was having a hard time going down the craters of Mt. Etna and she waited and assisted me going down, Overall we felt well guided and cared for. You should hire more staff like her!
Every aspect of the tour was amazing. Picked from our hotel in Catania in a very comfortalbe Van with 4 other tourists. We were driven to Mount Etna by our guide 'Daria' who walked us from the last station to 2000m altitude. We had also some time to walk around Silvestri crater. We also visited Taormina where we had two hours to tour this beautiful city. On the way to Taormina we stopped at Miele Di Sicilea, for tasting of honey and wine. We have also visited a nice cave on the way. Daria was superb as a host and guide. Her knowledge and narrative of the history of Sicily, Mount Etna and every city we passed through was very enriching and entertaining. Great tour organizing company but the best was the human touch of our guide. Thanks.
Our guide was excellent, gave us the right amount of time in each place, highly recommend going up the cable car
Very poor organization by the cable car operator in bad weather. No information about the reason for the standstill. Approx. 200 people had to stay hooked in inside the building. Shame on the operator
Drove there on my own. Good way to parking south. Go early indeed. We were there around 9 o'clock and it was very quiet. Luckily it is beautifully sunny. We bought a ticket for the cable car up to 2500 meters. Since the weather was already starting to change, we later looked at whether we would add to the jeep. This is possible. Once we had walked around the station, it became foggy. Unfortunately not with Jeep. The cable car was fun. Definitely do it. The view was beautiful at first.
Great time, plus Etna was erupting 👍👍👍
Two families with children under 9 years old. We wanted to go up to the top but not do a real hike for fear that the kids wouldn't handle it. After hearing from some local guides for private or group tours, in the end we opted to purchase the ticket online independently for the cable car/4x4 and a guide was included internally who picked us up and accompanied us for a stretch on foot giving some extra information in several languages. At the various levels there are several bars. The guide for the 3000m is mandatory and included in the ticket. If you buy tickets online on the Etna cable car website you skip the line
€82 per person for cable car plus 4x4. End of July no wait. High price but unfortunately not much choice. Great scenery up there, bring a windbreaker, that's all!
A unique experience. We were lucky because Mount Etna is still active. A bit of a long wait to exchange the tickets.
We had booked an e-ticket for the cable car 1 day before so we took the indicated fast lane but hed scanning device refused our tickets/ qr code. The lady at the check-in desk referred us to the offices?! However, we only saw the ticket counters and then joined the queue. At this desk we were redirected again. Again hassle and conflict with the lady of the check-in desk but because we were quite angry she took us aside and together with another group of 8 people with e-tickets she took us to the desks / offices behind the ticket counters because apparently we had to get “real” tickets and a handwritten note for the guide upstairs?? In short, e-ticket to be able to check in quickly and get into the cable car more easily turned out to be a complete wash! Visit upstairs was of course fine! And we said goodbye to the lady with a hug.
The ticket promised no line. Upon arrival at the gate we still had to exchange our ticket for a ticket. Furthermore, the cable car was in maintenance, so everything went by bus. That was a shame. In the end a nice excursion with a good guide.
Tickets purchased online did not allow direct access to the funiculars, we queued at the ticket offices to get our tickets!
The online tickets still need to be exchanged at the box office. So still doing traffic jams. We had not done this and after 45min traffic jam for the cable car were allowed to go to the box office again 😕
Unfortunately we could not fully enjoy the trip because visibility was limited due to fog (visibility 10-20m); the price-performance ratio regardless of the situation we found I find okayish to a bit overpriced - the cable car rides duration about 5-10 min just like the bus ride continues towards the summit..
Extraordinary experience to climb the etna. Arrivals at 9:00 am to avoid crowding. English and French Guide who shared his passion.
We booked the full tour: funicular, 4x4 truck and guide The QR code sent was only for the funicular. One hour on the phone to fix the problem. It is better to buy tickets directly on site!!!
Bad signage, expensive even if the site justifies the expense, practical information delivered sparsely and reluctantly by the staff.
Superbe expérience, mais dommage de n'avoir pas eu un guide francophone comme annoncé ! Coupe fil ok si on est bien renseigné sur place Télésiège super bus 4x4 génial
Everything we met and went through was very lovely. We had a totally cloudless day, which allowed us to admire Etna in all its magnitude.
We took the tour by minibus, were picked up on time and had an interesting and educational day thanks to our guide Enzo who does a fantastic job. Highly recommended
Sylvestria craters of 2001, lava cave, Taormina (isola bella and Greek theater), lava flow on Etna at night passionately presented by our guide Andrea.
We recommend taking the excursion with 4x4 Jeep and cable car, the whole tour takes about 7-8 hours, Taormina you can visit in a couple of hours
The visit inside the lava tunnel is somewhat different than expected. Great experience. We were a group of 6. One Irishman, one Swiss, two Italians, my wife and I. That is why Spanish was only used at times by the guide driver, but he was attentive to translate any doubts from English. That and driving is the only but. Everything else great, Luigi is very attentive and kept an eye on us the whole time.
