Full-day Mount Etna Experience From Siracusa

For various reasons, we received messages from ournorifinal and secondary guides that neither could make the trip. Regardless, we ended up with a third tour guide and she was as excellent as we anticipated Giuseppe or Frederico would have been. This was a great experience with a bus ride to Etna, an exploration of a small lake cave, a trip to the Etna visitor center, where we boarded a cable car and then a special bus to take us to the large crater. It takes some uphill walking, but it is well worth it!!

Our day hiking Mt. Etna with Giuseppe was one of those experiences that makes you really happy you had the right guide. From the moment he picked us up at our hotel, he was warm, welcoming, and incredibly hospitable. He has an easygoing nature that made everyone feel comfortable right away, and by the time we reached Mt. Etna, it already felt like we were spending the day with a local friend who happened to know an incredible amount about the mountain. Our hike was around 6 km with about 250 meters of elevation gain, reaching roughly 2,000 meters. Giuseppe kept a great pace for our small group of four, with plenty of breaks along the way. I really appreciated that. There was never any pressure to hurry—we had time to catch our breath, look around, take photos, ask question, and actually soak in where we were. And Giuseppe knows Mt. Etna. He shared so much with us about the volcano, the landscape, plants, birds, and the surrounding area, pointing things out along the trail that we never would have noticed on our own. His knowledge is impressive, but what stood out even more was how naturally he shared it. You can tell this isn’t just a job for him—he has a real connection to Mt. Etna and loves introducing people to it. Giuseppe also really knows his food. We came for a Mt. Etna hike and somehow left with a Sicily dining itinerary, too. We’ve already dined at several of his recommendations since our hike—and they’re all spot on! The whole experience felt relaxed, personal, and genuine. Giuseppe took great care of us and made an already incredible place that much more memorable. If you’re thinking about hiking Mt. Etna, I wouldn’t hesitate to book with him. Easily the highlight of our time in Sicily! We’ll definitely reach out to him again next time we’re here for one of his food tours!

Giuseppe was an excellent guide for our family’s first trip to Mount Etna. He was full of fascinating information about the history of the volcano and the plant and animal life to which it is home; and we very much enjoyed the breathtaking views afforded by the walking trail we followed with him. All in all it was a very memorable day and we would highly recommend the trip!

This is was a highlight of our family vacation to Sicily! Giuseppe is a great tour guide and we learned a lot about not only Mt. Etna but the history and culture of the surrounding regions. The nice part about this tour is that it's all managed by the operator so he came to get us at our hotel and dropped us back afterwards. We did not have to deal with a third party to get there or a separate driver. I would highly recommend this tour, especially if you are in the Siracusa area since it is a bit farther than other locations from Mt. Etna.

Giuseppe was knowledgeable, interesting and paced the hike to our group. His enthusiasm and passion for the history, nature architecture and geology of Scicily was a joy to listen to.

Giuseppe was a fantastic guide who told us numerous facts about Etna during our hike. He was thoughtful and considerate too accommodating the hike for my wife as well who needed to go a little slower On the ride back we were telling him the reason we came to Siciliy was to explore the area where my family came from and he started calling friends to see if we were related. We think we may have found some long lost relatives now. It really made the experience memorable and something we will never forget.

Our second day with Giuseppe last week was an amazing trip up Mount Etna, where he guided us through clouds, snow, wind and altitude to a spectacular experience. Both days he was sensitive to our interests and capabilities. For our trip to Mt Etna he was equipped with poles for mountain walking, lighted helmets for an exploration through a lava tube, and even hiking gaiters for our walk through the Mt. Etna snow. An amazing and knowledgable guide - Giuseppe would give anyone a true and unforgettable Sicilian experience.

We had a perfect day on the Etna thanks to Giuseppe who picked us up from Siracusa and brought us hiking to beautiful places on the mountain. This trip was a life time amazing experience for us. We never been to such a volcanic trip where you can see a unique flora and a huge bed of volcanic rocks created by magma. Walking and running on volcanic sand was thrilling and fun 😊

Giuseppe provided a great day at Etna, with clear communication of what to expect and timely pick-up at our hotel door. He is very knowledgeable about the history and natural science of the area; we learned a great deal about both the history and natural environment of Mt Etna, but also learned about Sicily more broadly through our discussions with him during the course of the day. He even gave us some excellent tips for things to visit and places to eat while we were in the area.

Giuseppe is excellent, extremely knowledgeable of both the nature and the volcanology. His hike was challenging but not too tough for people with moderate physical abilities.

What an interesting day out with our excellent guide Guiseppe. My 16 year old son and I were fortunate to be the only guests as Guiseppe put in an extra day for us. We trekked the Sciena dell’Asina to the Valle de Bove and were fascinated by Guiseppe’s knowledge of the flora and fauna as we went along. Explanations of the volcano activity and lava flows - differences between volcanos across Italy and the world - really brought it all together. Etna is other- worldly and extraordinary - and Guiseppe’s passion for the natural world and his locale really brought it to life for us. I thoroughly recommend this trip - bring your enthusiasm and questions - everything else is already here!

Wow! What a great experience. Giuseppe was a very knowledgeable guide whom we were very privileged to have exclusively to ourselves. He shared his knowledge of the history of past eruptions, current status and monitoring together with geology and habitat. As a mature retired couple he explained the route with options ensuring that we were safe throughout the day. We learnt a great deal from what he told us. We would not hesitate to recommend him as a guide.

A must do day out when in Sicily. Giuseppe is a great host, incredibly knowledgeable and good fun. He took us on a route away from the crowds. For most of the hike we felt like the only people on the volcano!! A great memory made 😎

We had a wonderful day trekking up Etna. Giuseppe was an excellent guide,very knowledgeable and professional. We were collected from our hotel at the designated time and dropped off after the adventure. There were only seven in our party, Just the right number. Tip: Be prepared, and take some warm lightweight clothing. The weather on Etna can be very changeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our day out and would recommend it.

The Mount Etna excursion with Sicily Unearthed led by Giuseppe was an incredible experience. I have hiked with him in both December and April and I learn so many things every time! The winter hike was full of snow that led to incredible scenery as we hiked up the volcano, and it was even more magical when it started snowing! The spring hike was warmer and just as awesome with some blooms along the trail. Giuseppe's knowledge of the history and scientific things of the volcano is exceptional. His love for nature and Etna shine through in this spectacular excursion. The views are fabulous as you stand at the top and can see the Etna towns below, the Mediterranean sea, the tallest point of Etna, and the craters all around. I really loved this excusion. You don't want to miss this experience!

We had the best time climbing Etna with Giuseppe. It was an intimidate tour with a total of 4 of us. We were picked up right from our hotel in Ortigia and then driven up to start our climb at Etna. All the way there Giuseppe had so much knowledge to share with us. The actual climb up Etna is great and you feel like you’re doing it with no one else there because the route that you are taken on avoids all the massive crowds. Genuinely lovely day we enjoyed our climb up Etna very much and Giuseppe is genuinely fantastic company to have for the day. We’d go again!!!

Our guide provided very interesting scientific and historic stories about Mount Etna and volcanology in general. Also about other interesting features of the landscape to and from Mount Etna. The vehicle was very comfortable all very fascinating. I had been to Aetna without a guide a few years ago, and the guided tour was far away, more informative, and interesting

Giuseppe is an excellent tour guide. He is very knowledgeable about the history of Etna dating back 500,000 years to the present. The path that he took us on is not technical, and he is aware of clients' climbing ability, stopping at the right times for a rest break. He shared many photos he took during our tour, which will be happy reminders of that day on Etna.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT !! Giuseppe was fantastic from the outset. He was very easy to get along with and put my children and I at ease. He was very patient and made sure that they were engaged and enjoying themselves on the long climb. His knowledge about the botany and geology of Etna was particularly interesting for me as an archaeobotany student. He was also able to explain things in child friendly terms. My kids LOVED being able to run down the volcano and I loved the views. The fact that he picked us up and took us back to our residence as part of the tour was a bonus. Cannot recommend Giuseppe more highly and hope to return to Sicily one day so that I can do more of his tours.

Amazing hike and tour of Etna from Siracusa! Filled with incredible scenery and in depth knowledge of Etna, eruptions, and all of Sicily.

We highly recommend this hiking and nature tour by Giuseppe! He was an amazing guide, and we throughly enjoyed our hike on Mt Etna. Giuseppe was prompt in picking us up near our hotel, and we enjoyed getting to know him and learning about Sicilian towns, foods, and culture during the ride up. He was very friendly and attentive during the hike, and we enjoyed learning about the history and science of the volcanos here, as well as the wildlife and plants on the mountain. Giuseppe is a very knowledgeable and affable guide. His English is excellent and he is a font of knowledge on the natural history relating to Etna. He is a careful and considerate driver also. If you want to get off the beaten track to see Etna ‘through the back door’, Guiseppe is your man! We would highly recommend him. Apparently he hosts cooking classes at his family home near Siracusa too. Something to return for. :)
