Second experience is better described like a 3 course lunch with pairings than tastings. Also prepare for a total of ~3+ hours of driving total. You get to see some beautiful sights to and from the vineyards though.

We had a fabulous time. The wines were delicious and our guide Emiliano was outstanding. He said that he normally leads the hiking tours to Mount Etna, but he did a fantastic job with us.
Very good day tour with beautiful scenery, great wine and great food. Our guide Andrea was very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend.
Had a great time visiting a couple of lovely vineyards and chatting with the winemakers and our knowledgeable and thoughtful guide. A great day trip from Catania!
Great trip , good wine and great lunch. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. Scenery was great. Wine tasting was excellent in the last two wineries, the first one not so good and a little unfriendly.
This was a mother-daughter trip, and the winery tour was right up our alley! We had a wonderful time getting to know Etna and its history. Our guide Mirko was fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable, and a good driver. We highly recommend this tour for all wine lovers!
Our driver was wonderful and was very accommodating, however I think the tour could be better organized as we really didn't have anyone with us throughout the trip other than the wonderful driver that dropped us off at different stops. Then we were on our own with the winery people taking over. During the tastings we had to try and make conversation when things got quiet between wines or even after we ate or drank w/ the other people in the group, as there wasn't a tour guide keeping things going. It made the tour feel a bit drawn out and boring. We still gave 4 stars mainly because the wine, food and vineyards were pleasant, along with a very nice driver. We travel to many countries and do many tours and think not having a guide with you throughout the trip was a bit disappointing.
Giovanni was wonderful. Huge passion for what he does and the knowledge to go with it. Lovely day tour with lots to take in. Great!
It was very nice but did NOT include exploring the volcano at all. The three wineries were good, two at the vineyard, one not. Giovani was very informative with great history of Catania. Very nice and good English. I recommend but not if you want to go to the volcano.
This trip is NOT a trip to Etna. This was ONLY a wine tour near Etna. We did not do any tracking, visit caves or anything although it said so in the description. We were very disappointed. As we went home the next day we did not get to visit Edna. But a fine wine tour 🙃
The whole experience was fantastic! Great tour and excellent guides. A must tour while in the Etna wine region.
This tour was beyond our expectations. The vineyards were incredible, especially the first one Emilio’s. We learned a lot with the presenters. The tour guide, Andrea, was extremely knowledgeable, he answered all our questions in deepth. His English fluency and vocabulary were great. The pick-up was perfectly on time, he was very polite and courteous. At the end of our tour, after we were dropped off at the our Hotel, my son noticed he did not have his wallet. We sent a message to the office through whatsapp and immediately they checked the van and Andrea, kindly drove back to our hotel with the wallet. What relief! Thanks for all the care and attention.
Our guide was brilliant- very friendly, chatty and polite. The tour stops consisted of wine tastings and a walk of no more than 100m into the vineyards to be told about the history of the sites. We expected more of the ‘tour’ part, but neither vineyard actually produce the wine on site, so there wasn’t really much to look at! The wine was nice, and particularly the second stop with lunch was very good. We bought sparkling wine from the 2nd vineyard and honey from the first stop - so well worth the trip, and as I said- very enjoyable! As a side note- I have no idea why there are currently photos of treks up Etna attached to this tour on Trip Advisor, the wonder into the vineyards could be done in flip flops, and you’re distance from the main slope of Etna proper!
From start to finish the experience was amazing. The communiation was excellent, keeping us informed at all times. Flavia was our driver and tour guide, she was excellent and attentive, telling us stories about Sicily and 'Mama Etna' whilst driving between the vineyards. The vineyard experience was brilliant, interesting and so impormative. The settings were beautiful, like something out of a movie. The vineyard owner brought out a little cake for my friend as they found out it was my birthday.
I read great reviews of Etna Experience before contacting them. They far surpassed my expectations. I contacted them about a bespoke wine tour, as there were specific wineries I wanted to visit. I dealt mostly with Helena, who was very responsive to emails and just amazing! Our driver to the wineries, Giovanni, was fantastic. He told us so much about Sicily - things you cannot learn from a guidebook. He was so lovely. We also booked transfers from Catania to Taormina and Taormina to Messina. Our driver was great and gave us wonderful tips. Everything happened on time, which we appreciated. We had such an incredible experience with everyone on the Etna Experience team. They really care that you have a great experience.
Excellent staff and tour. Federica and Helena were efficient, patient and attentive. Mirko, our guide and driver, was both knowledgeable and a safe driver. Very important in Sicily. Many thanks for an enjoyable day.
Beautiful day visiting two wineries. We only got a tour of the first vineyard - the second location was only lunch. Lunch and our wait staff was absolutely amazing. Way more driving then we expected and we did not see mount Etna but overall great day out in Sicily.
A great tour to see a few wineries and learn more about Sicily! Claudio was an amazing guide for our tour. He picked us up near our hotel, even a few minutes earlier than expected. During the longer drives between locations, he shared stories and history about Sicily and the towns we were driving through. We went to two wineries and another place that produces honey, oils, and wine. All 3 locations were great, with excellent wine and local products. Lunch at the second winery was delicious as well. The staff at each place were very knowledgeable and eager to talk about their vineyards and different wines. And throughout the day, Claudio was checking in the make sure we were having a great time. Overall, this tour is an excellent way to visit a few wineries on Mt. Etna!
Amazing tour! We had a an awesome experience with our guide Andrea. He was friendly, knowledgeable and great to talk to. The stops we made and experiences we had were all great. The wine and food was delicious and we all learnt a lot. The views were incredible and this trip was well worth it. We will be back one day!
Giovanni was a great guide. Enjoyed the two vineyard visits very much, particularly the second which was very professional. The winemaker was enthusiastic and passionate about his product. The lunch was fine but pretty ordinary pasta. Not the highlight.
A fantastic day spent exploring the slopes of Etna and sampling some of the regional wine and food. My partner and I were the only two on the tour and our guide Giuseppe was brilliant. Suitable shoes and socks are provided, as they likely won’t be in your holiday packing. The slopes are really awe inspiring and you get a powerful impression of nature’s power up close! Giuseppe explained all the features we passed by and had some great knowledge of the local plant life also. The vineyard we visited was also incredible and the owner was a kind and generous host. The wine itself was delicious, and some light lunch was also put on and tasted great. Giuseppe took us to a perfect spot for a final photo to end the day before transporting back to Catania. Definitely can recommend this experience especially as it balances those interested in exploring the immense volcano as well as the wonderful local produce.
I had an absolutely amazing time. Dario was an amazing guide and incredibly knowledgeable regarding Mount Etna and its ecology. The views were stunningly beautiful and that doesn't even begin to cover the wine and the food! I would highly recommend this to any wine and food lover, especially to people who want to see a bit of the area then receive a phenomenal experience. I couldn't recommend this possibly any higher!
The tour was beautiful! Janet took us on a lovely excursion hike through Mt. Etna’s stunning landscapes. Her passion and experience in geology made the hiki even more fascinating, packed with all the inner workings of volcanos and how they impact the surroundings. The wine tour afterwards was lovely as well. Really friendly, knowledgeable wine makers with a clear passion for their wines (and delish food pairings). Grazie mille a tutti!
We had such a fantastic experience! Our tour guide, Janet, was absolutely fabulous, extremely knowledgable with great English. It was only the two of us (my partner and I) on the tour which made it rather intimate and enjoyable. It rained on the day we hiked but the clouds parted and we were able to see Mount Etna and the snow on the mountain top. We were also able to see Taormina and Calabria which was nice. Before the hike, we also explored the caves that had been formed from lava and that was interesting with Janet being highly informed. The wine tasting was lovely, we even bought a bottle of red. However, we did feel that lunch at the vineyard could have been a little more substantial. At the end of our trip, we stopped off at a local honey farm, the honey samples were delicious with honey being infused with eucalyptus and lavender amongst other flavours. At the honey farm, they also had olive oil infused with porcini mushrooms, chilli and onion. We also bought a bottle of olive oil infused with onions which I cannot wait to cook with! The excursion was fantastic and I would 100% recommend it.
Excellent tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable with a PhD in volcanic studies and we got to try a lot of amazing wine and food. Would highly recommend as you get to learn a lot about Etna, go inside a cave and explore a vineyard which would be hard to do on your own.
Marco was the best guide! He explained everything perfectly and really seemed to enjoy guiding. The volcano was beautiful. The winery tour was nice and the honey store was so cool.
My wife and I were not disappointed with the Etna and wine tour, and enjoyed every moment. Denise was a great guide!
Long overdue review, we visited in October 2019. We were a group of 4 that signed up for the Etna and Wine excursion. This day trip was a highlight of our time in Sicily! We had Fabio as our guide, he was very engaging, knowledgable and made us laugh! He really went above and beyond the entire day, really wanting us to have the best impression of his beloved mountain. We loved being able to hike around on Etna, but the best part had to be going into the lava caves! The wine tasting and lunch was terrific, and we got so many lovely treats at our last stop. Highly recommend the pistachios and the chili pepper flakes! We would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Catania area. Thanks Fabio!
Together with a group of a lot of students I had a great experience. Professional guides (Paolo and Manuel) that are kind and funny and just know so much! Great walk in beautiful area. Very special. 😄
We went on the Etna & Wine tour with Denise, and it was well worth the time and money spent! Denise is a very knowledgeable guide who is passionate about working on Mt Etna, and had many interesting facts and stories to tell as well as being able to answer any of our questions. On the tour Denise gave us lots of interesting information on the drive to Etna, then we visited the a lava cave (that is actually a tunnel!), had a quick relaxed hike on the mountain, visited a winery for lunch where the owner was very generous with the food and wine and finished off with a visit to a honey (also oil, pesto, olives etc.) shop where we could taste and buy these things. I would very much recommend this tour. When we got back to Catania it had gone 5pm, we were tired from the days activities and had to take a nap! :)
You can't visit Catania and not book a tour in mount Etna! It was such a great experience and really worth it. We started with trekking in Etna, visiting a lava tunnel and then we stopped at a traditional, cosy winery for lunch and wine tasting. In that tour we had Dario, our guide, who was a truly nice guy with good knowledge about nature and helped us a lot to understand many things about volcanoes. Good job! I recommend it one hundred percent.
I took this tour with Teresa. It was an amazing experience. I highly recommend it. Teresa is extremely knowledgeable, speaks excellent English, was very informative and an excellent driver. The tour packed a lot into one day. We trekked near a dormant crater, hiked into a lava cave, enjoyed a fabulous lunch with different wines, and finished the day with a honey tasting. I cannot say enough about what an amazing and educational adventure this was. Go if you have a free day!!
A great intro tour to Etna. You go half way up the mountain and experience some older eruptions and craters on Etna. Marco was really informative and had lots of interesting information! Wine and lunch was pretty good, lunch was luke warm which was a little bit dissapointing on a cold day but otherwise a really good trip!
Amazing tour guide, she explained the nature, knew a lot about the making and evolution of the vulcano and was very pleasant and funny. The wine was really good and we had more than enough food and tastings. A must do in Sicily!
We really enjoyed the excursion, the guide was really nice and knowledgeable. Complimented with beautiful scenery and good food. Good value for money A+++
Excellent guide, enjoyed every minute of it. Breathtaking views and good food. A + rating. We were a small group of 5 and got along very well. We are glad we booked this excursion.
We had a great tour with Antonio. He took care of every detail and always made sure we understood and we're good to go before moving on. We didn't feel rushed like some tours and really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Beautiful day to see Etna, Great guide, loads of information. Lunch and wine also fantastic. Etna also put on a performance with lots of explosions.
Giovanni was punctual and informed. The day was beautiful. We loved walking on the lava path through the birch forest. The winery was interesting and the three wines that accompanied our lunch were very good. It was a perfect tour.
I had an amazing time on this tour with Fabio, and learnt so much from him too! He was very knowledgeable and attentive to everyone in our group of 8. This tour was excellent value, with wonderful people. We saw so much in 1 day and I was really happy I booked it. I thoroughly recommend it!
Great trip. Good mix of activities. Very knowledgable guide, friendly and welcoming and really made the day. Would have been nice to learn abit more about the wine, food was lovely.
Amazing day out in Etna! Minuel was a terrific tour leader, he knew so much, he was so engaging! He truly made the day that much more memorable! There was a group of 6 of us which was the perfect amount of people - friendly bunch of people. The volcano, the wineries and the water/lake at the end were truly special. Only suggestion make sure you take a swimming costume so you can get into the water. Highly recommend this tour!
Having not done much research we embarked on this tour with little knowledge of what was to come. However the entire day was filled with rewarding treats, from walking through the breathtaking trails of volcanic rock, to a sumptuous wine experience to round off the afternoon, we couldn't have asked for more. Our tour guide Giovanni was the perfect accompaniment to the day, his knowledge of everything from rocks to plants to Sicilian food, meant curiosity could be fully explored at each location. If you want to spend a day simply enjoying the area of Etna and all it has to offer then this is a great choice. Grazie Giovanni for such an remarkable experience - a true highlight in our trip!
A fantastic day out with our guide Giovanni (John) or Rambo. John took a lot of time and effort explaining about all things volcano. We could see that he is very passionate about Mr Etna and the environment. The vineyard lunch was great, with a nice selection of wines. We decided not to go to the food tasting part of the trip, so John took us to look at the seaside, which was a fabulous bonus! A great day, would recommend to all on Trip Advisor.
Excellent guide, Paolo's knowledge mixed with his humor made for a fantastic day! Started the day with a tour of the Etna and then lunch with a wine tasting and tour of the winery. Would recommend this excursion.
This is great to do for all ages and groups. We are honeymooners and my wife was not sure whether she was going to enjoy hiking on our trip. The walk itself wasn’t too aggressive, though the scenery was fascinating to learn about and inspiring to take a view from on top of. It was the height of summer and so we did it in t-shirts and jeans, though it was pretty breezy and they had prewarned us that the weather could turn. No issues for us but you may want to pack appropriately. They supplied hiking shoes which were great. Our tour guide was very enthusiastic and a trained botanist. One of the best guides we had on our whole honeymoon. The negatives? I’m a wine snob and the wines were nice but not super high end of anything. I would have liked to try some luxe options and would have paid more for that, but I think generally it was good and the food was decent. Definitely recommended if you are in Catania for a day or two.
We had an enjoyable and memorable day trekking on Etna, visiting the stunning Alcantara Gorge and sampling food and drink at a local winery. Giovanni was an excellent guide: friendly, enthusiastic and exceptionally knowledgeable throughout. Highly recommend.
Our driver and guide for the day was Teresa. She had very good knowledge of the area, was great company, and explained the Etna and wine tasting trip well. Boots, helmets and torches (for the lava cave) were all provided. Etna is huge and the area more beautiful than you could imagine. Lunch at the Don Saro winery was absolutely first class. The only criticism, would be the transport. We were sat in the back of the land rover, on fairly hard seats directly over the back wheels (a couple of teenagers were in the more comfy seats). Sicily's roads are well pot-holed and our backs received a fair pounding as a result. Not good when you're in your 60's. O therwise it was a wonderful day out in the hands of an excellent guide.
We did the Etna & Wine tour. The canteen San Michele provide us with delicious food and great wines (especially white Riserva was of our pleasure). The honey tasting was as well a really pleasant experience as there was so many varieties we have never tried before. The Etna trekking was very pleasant and our guide Teresa was explaining us lots of details regarding the vulcano. The tour is worth the money and you will find out a lot about Sicily. After the tour I recommend you to go to the Ostello restaurant/bar in Catania to take a look on the downstairs cave created by lava.
We flew from Canada on our three week trip to Sicily, landing in Catania and not really knowing what to expect on a booked tour of Mount Etna with a wine tasting option. Wow! The tour up to Mount Etna with tour guide Rosario was amazing and so were the staff in the office who get back to you with any questions, instantly. The company, Etna Experience, should keep contracting with Rosario as he is an exceptionally knowledgeable naturalist and volcanologist. Bonus - coming from Canada we don't know how to speak Italian and Rosario is fluent in English which made the mountain and wine tasting experience even better. Thank you Etna Experience and Rosario!
