Etna Morning Trip

We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Danilo. He is so very knowledgeable and passionate about Mt. Etna. We were met and dropped off within a 10 minute walk from our cruise ship and returned to our ship in plenty of time. We are in our 70’s and Danilo loaned us some hiking poles, which was a nice bonus. We were very fortunate to have a beautiful day, with unlimited visibility overlooking Catania. Our guide Danilo made the day very interesting.

Very interesting but there is a rather steep hike to get to the crater. The tour was well worth it. The guide was helpful and gave us a lot of interesting facts

Good morning tour seeing lava caves, a village where a lava flow stopped and a good introduction to Mount Etna itself with a manageable short trek at the base of Etna. Good value and guide though some of the commentary was via a walkie-talkie as there were two vehicles.

Even though Etna is indeed active, the sights where tourists can go do not really display the authenticity and excitement of the volcano, so the sight as such would amount to only 3 stars. However, the talented and very present guide - Luca - made, to the exent possible, up for this with outlines of historic events and their consequences. The gruop held 6 nationalities and the dynamics were really good. No doubt, this also improved the impression of the tour.

There was 8 individuals from different countries which made it more interesting. We enjoyed the tour and especially our guide. Be prepared to do some up and down hiking on volcanic rock and fine dirt.

Brilliant, fascinating day with an excellent guide. On a cruise ship and the timing worked well.

Our Tour guide Danny (danero) I’m not sure of the spelling of his name. Was excellent. Hi knowledge and passion for mount Etna was impressive. From our pick up point to the top of the mountain where the walking tour began he gave a very impressive history of the country and mountain which was all very informative. The walking part of the tour is quite steep and the views were amazing. The communication via what’s app with pick up point and directions was very helpful. We were a little concerned at where we had to park the car as this was a rental but as the guide assured us it was a safe place.

Danilo was a great guide! He was kinda and social and gave us some really cool information, you can tell he loves what he does. The trek was beautiful because we had unusually clear weather so I felt very lucky! Make sure you dress in layers because it can be cool and also warm since you are climbing a mountain. I was picked up and dropped off from my hotel as well. 10/10 Recommend

Luca our guide was great! He kept to our boat schedule and still showed us everything we needed to see! My 80 year old mother did great and even got down in a lava tunnel!

Guide was excellent and informative about Mt. Etna, the region, and Sicily in general. Trek to nearest craters was too strenuous for me, but both I and an even older guest (80 years) were able to navigate the lava tube known as the grotto of the three levels...wild experience!

It was incredible and everything was well organized, the hike is easy, the views very impressive and the information by our guide Elizabeth very profound and informative. Thank you 😊

Our guide, Danilo, was entertaining and very knowledgeable about volcanism. He filled us in on the history of the volcano and the various eruptions over the past. After being picked up at my hotel, it was about a 60 minute drive to where the hike began. The first activity of the day was a hike of approximately 90 minutes up to an altitude of 2000 meters(6,600 feet). The walk can be challenging as the first half is uphill, and the oxygen content of the air is reduced at the higher elevation. The group stopped frequently so Danilo good show us the various lava flows as well as some of the vegetation that is growing in the area. He has some wonderful pictures and videos that he has taken during active eruption. I am sure he will show them to you. The second activity was to visit a lava tube. Walking was difficult over the volcanic rocks and the ceiling is a little low in some places. A flashlight is provided and it is a nice experience. The third, and final activity of the day, was a stop at an overlook of a valley. Unfortunately, for us, it was pretty cloudy that day, but the clouds parted occasionally, and we could see the view. The tour is held rain or shine so be prepared and wear layers of clothing. It was in the low 50s Fahrenheit the day that I went. On the volcano, the weather conditions kept changing; the wind would pick up and clouds would come and go. I also want to thank Antonio, who was the driver of our SUV, for getting us up and down the mountain safely.

It was an excellent way to see Mount Etna with a very knowledgeable guide named Danilo. Learned a lot about this volcano versus just taking pictures, which we did as well of course!

This was a fantastic tour! Our guide Daphne def had a passion for the volcano and the intricate workings of it! We weren’t too sure about the tour at first - but it was amazing - we learned a lot! Our guide showed us videos of the recent lava flow - would be so cool to see it live!

We really enjoyed our Etna trip. Our guide was so amazing (I can’t recall her name) but she was so knowledgeable and thoughtful for everyone on the tour and tasting the local produce was a bonus. I thoroughly recommend doing this tour with this company.

We had an amazing guided tour on Mount Etna with Danilo. Since we were staying outside Catania, the team at Etna Est communicated with us well in advance to set up a convenient alternative pickup location in the city. The tour itself was fantastic, starting with a short hike up the volcano while Danilo shared engaging insights into its history and current activity. After the hike, we had time to use the facilities and grab some food and drinks at the mountain bar. Next, we explored an incredible cave formed by past lava streams. To finish off the experience, Danilo drove us to one of his favorite scenic viewpoints, where he treated us to a glass of delicious Zibibbo wine as a perfect closing gesture before returning us safely to the pickup point.

We had a very nice and informative tour with our guide Maurizio. Pick up worked very well and the tour was thought out well.

It was an amazing trip, definitely worth your money! Our guide told us so much on the road towards etna (in a van with AC), on the etna, in the cave and even the way down. Lots of interesting and fun information, brought in a relaxed vibe. We saw amazing craters, views and differences in vegetation. And again, our guide was amazing.

We would like for it to be a little longer. Maybe include the chairlift. We had an emergency with our vehicle which had nothing to do with our driver and tour but just made the flow of the trip broken up with lots of waiting time for new vehicle twice. And nothing against our guide but if you send a guide for English speaking group then the guide needs to speak decent English. I gave up trying to listen to our guide because I could not understand anything he was saying. Maybe that’s why I didn’t enjoy the tour so much.

Wonderful trip up Etna with Lucas. So friendly, knowledgeable and lots of tips to raise our enjoyment of Sicily. Lucas picked us up from where we were staying, we had regular stops, great views along the way, stories of Etna, Catania and Sicily. The hike was enjoyable and not too taxing. Highly recommended.

This was one if the best tours we've experienced. Daniel was knowledgeable, punctual, multi lingual and genuinely interested in every participant. He has a vast knowledge of Mt Etna and conveys it an an interesting manner. We highly recommend this tour.

I booked this trip to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We had an amazing time hiking Mt. Etna. Mauricio was an excellent guide. We are from Hawai’i, and it was an amazing experience seeing another active volcano in a different part of the world. I highly recommend this adventure!

The first part of the hike was a little difficult. I would recommend taking a bandana or mask and sunglasses as on even a light windy day the lava dust can be irritating. Exceptional experience! Our guide, Danielo, was enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. He showed us videos of volcanic explosions that he had taken previously in the areas we were visiting. That additional information put everything in perspective.

The tour was wonderful, the pickup was very simple, and we were a small group of only 7. The tour itself was great value for money, we felt we really got to explore and understand Etna thanks to our great tour guide Luca. We would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to visit mount Etna, especially those who do not want to do an overly intense hike!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience exploring Mount Etna and the lava caves. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate, making the entire experience extremely enjoyable. She shared an abundance of information about Etna’s volcanic history, geology, and the surrounding area, while also making sure we felt comfortable and safe throughout the tour. Visiting the lava caves was a real highlight—such a unique and unforgettable experience. I only hit made head once…thankfully we were provided helmets! Our guide’s passion, enthusiasm and expertise truly made the day special. We learned so much, took in some incredible landscapes, and had amazing experience from start to finish!

Informative and interesting tour. Prepare to do some hiking! Bring your hiking shoes, long pants, and windbreaker. It was windy and cool. Blowing ashes in your face. Wearing sunglasses and balaclava would help. Cool climbing in the lava cave. Being up on Mt Etna was a nice refreshing break from the heat wave in August.

EasyJet were easy and even immigration wasn’t too bad so getting there was great! Booked an uber from the airport to Catania and was rejected 4 times by drivers after having been accepted! Shame on you Uber! Seems like only normal taxis will go to the terminal. On arrival at Romano House hotel the staff were brilliant and our room was ready early 10/10. On exploring Catania it’s a paradox, an absolutely beautiful place with wonderful warm and welcoming people partly spoiled by huge amounts of graffiti EVERYWHERE! Such a shame. The history, the food, the drinks, the people WONDERFUL! The service EXCEPTIONAL! Special mention must go to Antonio the bar and breakfast manager at Romano House what a man what conversation what service from a true pro! Sommelier extraudinaire. “Welcome to our Bar” snacks and happy hour from 7-9 just wonderful. Seek out the small family run restaurants for great food at great prices and as always great service. Romano House also has access to their sister hotels lido and provides transport and free loungers and brolly which is worth its weight in gold. Also did a tour of some of the other historic towns in Sicily which were stunning and graffiti free! Beautiful. Sicily really delivered.

An enjoyable tour with a very pleasant guide who was very knowledgeable and passionate about Etna. Overall, the tour is suitable for everyone. The hike is steep just in the first 4-5 mins. The pace is leisurely with lots of breaks. We enjoyed the lava cave and the view from the final stop was spectacular!

The guide was amazing. He picked us up at front of our hotel. He spoke fluently Italian, Spanish and English. He was very passionate and knowledgeable about everything that we saw, including the craters, vegetation and rocks. He also gave great tips about visiting the city of catania, including an amazing local restaurant. The hiking was easy, and whenever there was a harder path, the guide helped everyone. We also visited a beautiful cave. We really recommend you bring comfortable shoes. The car was very comfortable with AC.

Absolutely wonderful! Mauricio met us at the designated location 15 minutes early, he was a friendly and knowledgeable guide taking us to many locations on Mount Etna. Would recommend!

The guide for Mt Etna was very passionate about archaeology and the history of volcanoes. We had a great time exploring the site and the caves. The tour guide was extremely cautious, knowledgeable and helpful.

Danilo shared photos and videos with us to enhance the experience. He spoke about the historical side and scientific side of Etna in ways that were engaging and easy to understand. We learned so much and this was truly a highlight of our trip to Catania!

We had the best time doing this tour of mt etna! I went back and forth on if I should cancel it because we have 4 kids 8 and under and I am so glad I didn’t cancel!! We HAD the BEST time and our tour guide (Daniello). He could not have been more knowledgeable, caring and kind. He went above and beyond and it truly made our experience what it was. We saw amazing things and learned so much. Thank you!

The tour was beautiful and exciting. The guide was very nice and polite but not very good at English. We were only told that pickup at the desired location was not possible after we had paid and could not get our money refunded. and the minivan that drove us up to Etna had never ever passed a vehicle inspection in Denmark. It was terrible to drive. Sorry for the bad review, because your guide did his best to make the trip good.

What a trip! Just 8 of us with the guide and you walk off the main track so your not crowded by other tours. Tour guide was so friendly, super knowledgeable and made sure we had fun, were looked after and really made every moment count. Definitely book this!

Energetic and passionate about the mountain and volcano. Such a bucket list experience, definitely an amazing thing to share with my son. Luca was fabulous.

2 guides to a group of 6 made this a very personal experience, an amazing day trip we collected everyone in an AC van and then drove to a beautiful spot halfway up near the valley of the cows and then onto a lava tunnel cave and finally trekking up and around some of the lateral craters on Mt Etna. Both Gabriel and Danny were very knowledgeable and informative. One of the best value for money day trips I've ever been on
