A very good experience, I highly recommend it. Mirko has been a great guide, very informative and very helpful. It’s always a pleasure to have such a good experience, all set, all ready and perfectly in time. The food was great, we asked for vegan options and we were extremely happy with the choices. We had jackets, shoes provided, transportation in a very comfortable mini van. We also had our 2 dogs with us and it was never a problem for Mirko! I’m really happy about this experience:-)
I am absolutely satisfied from the service. Starting with the punctuality at the pick up point , next comes the professional driving and the interesting facts ,presented to us in a perfect way from Francesco. The base camp is located in a tranquil area ,it is very clean and equiped with everything needed for a safe tour regardless the season. The exploration of Etna was also very interesting and I want to express my personal gratitude to Francesco again for keeping up with my "tantrums " :) .
We had an amazing time exploring Mount Etna! The tour was well-organized from start to finish. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the volcano and its history. The landscapes were breathtaking – walking on ancient lava fields and seeing active craters up close was a truly unique experience. Transportation was comfortable, and we appreciated the stops for photos and explanations. The group size was just right, making it easy to ask questions and enjoy the moment. We also got to taste some local products, which added a nice cultural touch to the trip. Overall, this was a highlight of my time in Sicily. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in nature, geology, or simply looking for a memorable adventure!
It was a well organised trip. Although there were 2 cars due to the number of participants, a radio was used so allow both cars to hear the guide. The guide frequently waited for the group to come together before continuing his explanations. All in all, I would strongly consider another trip from them if we are back in Sicily.
Fun way to see Etna without a big commitment of time and money. Emiliano was a super knowledgeable guide. We had a nice morning.
It was the perfect day! Salvo and Mirko were amazing guides - knowledgeable, funny and kind. The hike wasn’t too hard either! Lots of built in resting points to make it manageable. Overall, I’d highly recommend it.
We took the tour this morning with Marco. He was knowledgeable, personable and fun. He was great at explaining the volcanic activities, he even drew pictures in the rocks. A half day started at 8:30 and we finished at 15:00. Plenty of time for hiking the craters, hiking in the grotto, plenty of pictures and a delicious Sicilian lunch. Perfecto!!
Very interesting visit, well organised, Giovanni was our guide and very knowledgable. We had good weather but still a little chilly at the top. Nice picnic lunch. The trip was both English and Italian, Giovanni is fluent in English and was able to answer all our questions. A really good day.
Great experience! The tour guide (Danilo) was informative and kept the walk along the craters accessible and interesting. The company also equips you with hiking boots and a warm coat if you don’t have your own (I wasn’t expecting snow so was glad of this!). The best part of booking with this company is the helpful and professional staff they had. My initial booking had to be cancelled due to bad weather and the staff (Laura, Helena) were great at helping me book another experience. They also arranged for me to get a different pickup and drop off location. I’m so happy with my adventure!
What a good find on line, the Etna Experience, who explained and answered all our questions beforehand. Went with sunset tour with Marco as the guide. Amazing tour, adapting to our lack of ability in places, and brining back photos of what we missed. Topped with a really nice pizza snack, able to cater for vegans/veggies, no problem. and watched the sun go down. Great find, choice of company and super guide. Thank you all.
We got an absolutely great experience about Etna on this Morning Tour.Even the climb to the craters was ok for us.Our tour guide Orazio made an excellent job.
The tourguide was very friendly, mastered English and volcanology knowledge. The route we took was absolutely breathtaking, and I left feeling very knowledgeable and appreciative of the power & kindness of Mount Etna.
We had booked the tour. We took the bus from Taormina to Catania and we were to meet the pickup bus at the railway station 8.55 am. Our bus got stuck in the traffic. We informed the Etna Experience that we are stuck in traffic. They told us no problem” not our fault. After sitting in the traffic so long we informed the company that “ go ahead without us” we so late. They said ok . But then the Etna Experience told that they must charge us “ a penalty fee” because of us being late and didn’t come on the tour. The penalty fee was the full amount of the cost for two people. 100% not even 50%. When question this 100% penalty fee but we got a voucher that’s valid for one year. As we are not returning from USA in another year, this voucher is useless. This is very upsetting and needles to say not right.
The drive and the views were beautiful. Lunch was a simple packed lunch with a bottle of wine shared among the passengers, which was very nice. However a seatbelt in the car was missing with the socket totally broken off, which left me anxious. Also we climbed higher than I expected (higher than the 2000m indicated in advance information) and the tour guide walked at a very fast pace. He basically just left me and my partner behind and then as soon as we caught up at halfway point moved on again. We weren’t going especially slowly and it was quite frustrating as he showed no interest in keeping the group together. I just got the impression he’d done the whole tour a lot this summer and was a bit fed up.
- Very good communication - Good price for the value of the trip and of course, most of all, the perfect guide Giovanni whose knowledge about Etna's geology is so inspiring!
Nice and feasible walk up on the Etna. Very nice views. The guide spoke good English and gave nice explanations about the fauna and flora on the Etna and some nice stories about the Etna and the history of the eruptions. We hiked on Mount Etna and the Silvestre Crater. We received hiking sticks. We also visited a lava cave for which we received a helmet.
It was a great experience! Our guide was very friendly und showed us stunning things. We went in a cave and she explained us interesting facts about the etna.
Fantastic guided hike on Etna with equipment loan, explanations about volcanic formations and finally a visit to caves
Brilliant day out - very efficient pick up from Catania and great to be able to get a hot drink at base camp. The equipment provided was of a good standard and the packed lunch was tasty. Our guide Janet was great - she was very knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and made the trip fun too!
Janet is a very professional guide. We did the tour and she explained us a lot about the volcano. It was a short trip but after that we had a really nice Picknick. Next time I will try to get the very top of Mt. Etna :)
Honestly one of the best experiences in a whole Sicily! Everything was well organized. The car picked us up on agreed spot and in the end drop us off. Our guide guy - Dario - knew everything about the nature around the volcano. This tour was more or less nature and biodiversity oriented, which was still interesting. After the hike, drink and lunch was offered to us.
We had an amazing time with Janet! She is very knowledgeable and hence during the trip we were able to learn a lot of Etna/ Volcanos. Everything was on time and met expectations. The hike was Easy with a lot of stops. Was an incredible experience to see and learn!
Great experience. Can highly recommend. Our driver picked us up precisely at the agreed time. He was very good at explaining and took the time to answer all questions. Gave a lot of useful background info. Visited several volcanic craters and went into an underground cave shaped by the volcanoes. Nice picnic with Sicilian street food. We have a 6-year old, and the trip was easy enough for him.
We took Etna morning tour and it was an excellent experience for our family! Special thanks to our guide Orazio - knowledgeable, experienced, motivated to explain geological and historical facts, flexible and sensitive to the needs of certain group, very kind. We usually do sight seeing on our own but for Etna we advise you to take guided tour by Etna experience. Without explanation Etna might look only as black desert.
Our trip on Etna was wonderfull, our guide Janet was really amazing, she really knows a lot about vulkanos... She made it one of the best days in Sicily. i really recommend taking a trip with her
We had an incredible morning experience with an amazing guide Janet. We were so lucky to be the only ones to have booked the experience and as a result we got such a personal and intimate tour. Janet was so knowledgable and passionate about Etna and she was eager to tell us many facts and answer all our questions. She was also very personable and great to chat to and we were happy to tell her all about our native Scotland! The tour started in Catania and we first visited a volcanic cave which was incredible and so interesting. We then went walking on the Etna volcano itself which was a once in a lifetime experience. The wine and snack element of the tour exceeded our expectations and we were very happy they catered to a vegetarian diet (which isn’t always guaranteed in Italy). All in all we couldn’t be happier with our experience and we will definitely recommend this company to anyone wanting an easy and insightful way to visit Etna! Thank you Janet 😊
While based in Catania, we had a great trip to Mount Etna (Morning Experience). Really good well paced, interesting, and informative itinerary, good equipment provided, wonderful company from the others on the trip, and ending with a fabulous picnic lunch - great food and wine. Best of all was our guide Janet. A qualified geologist she showed us and explained lava tubes, caves, and flows, craters, the different types of volcanoes and eruptions, and so much more with friendliness, enthusiasm, passion and humour. Five hours and the time just flew by. Fully recommended.
The trip to low Etna at 2000m was a really pleasant experience. The guide, Paolo, is not only very educated on the topic but can also be very entertaining and create a good atmosphere during the tour. The walking was definitely suited to beginners like ourselves as well. Overall, Even without having a passion for volcanoes or geology, the tour with Paolo was without a doubt very interesting and I would definitely recommend/come back a second time.
Iorga is a fantactic gentleman. If I lived 3,000 miles closer our families would be friends. Hike was a little hard, my teammates where patient. Great views and company. I highly recommend.
This was definitely the highlight of our trip in Sicily. Ernesto is very friendly, speaks reasonably good English, knowledgable and comes prepared with shoes, jackets, headlights and gloves and other items that are definitely necessary for visiting Etna. He has very good knowledge of volcanology in general, and about Etna in particular and I learned much during the tour. My friend and I were picked out in the morning from our airbnb by Ernesto on Christmas morning. After picking up another two travellers, we started the tour. First we saw basalt cliffs on the coast of Catania, caused by an ancient eruption thousands of years ago. We traveled upto the last town before Etna, Nicolosi where we enjoyed canoli and coffee. We then continued, first visiting a pitch black lava tube, with Ernesto explaining the formation process. It was quite fantastic. We then continued the drive up to the volcano, the landscape consisting of black basalt rocks, trees and and mounds. We saw an ancient basalt quarry. As we drove up the slope we passed the snowline, and the combination of white snow and black ashen ground was beautiful. Finally we arrived near the peak, where we hiked to see some of the recent craters. It was very windy, so we had to turn back eventually, but what we saw was unforgettable. The main crater of Etna was closeby, with smoke emerging from it. Following the hike, we continued driving north to a side of Etna that is not visible from Catania, but is visible from Taormina. After driving through a forest and emerging at a cliff with a clear view of Etna's northern slope, we emerged and Ernesto explained the geological history of Etna. Etna has a somewhat horseshoe shape, with a hole in the middle. Hundreds of thousands of years ago a massive eruption destroyed the original mountain, leaving a cavity around which the modern Etna has formed. Thus Etna is really a baby volcano. We took nice photos and then drove back to Catania. I absolutely recommend this tour if you visit Catania.
I'm not a fan of group tours generally - I prefer to explore on my own. But it is tricky to visit Mt. Etna without a car or without a tour. I went through Sicily Day by Day to book this tour and I was so happy I did. I booked the day before and right on time our guide Denise picked us up nearby our hotel and after gathering the rest of our tour of 8 at random locations, we ventured up to volcano. Throughout the drive Denise gave interesting facts about the island, the culture, the plants and the volcano in both English and French. The tour company provides shoes and walking sticks for the brief hike which was very helpful. The hike was very doable with many stops for Denise to tell us about how the volcano works, the history of its eruptions, a deeper look at the lava flows and the plants and animals that grow on the mountain and she took the best photos of us and of the entire group! After a lunch of traditional Catania street food and Etna wine within the national park, a quick exploration of a lava cave followed and then she dropped us all of back where we started. She was so insightful and personable and I just couldn't recommend this tour and Denise enough. She usually does the French and German tours, but if you can sneak in as an English speaker I highly highly recommend it!
We were collected from Catania "Piazza Mazzini" in a Land Rover by our guide, I cannot remember her name but she was fabulous, very knowledgeable and fully supportive of Sicily which was great to hear. Her knowledge of Etna and the surrounding area was impressive as were her love of Sicily. The picnic was great with a mixture of Sicilian specialities and local wine, fabulous, we also visited a small volcanic cave which added to the highlights. Overall the experience was excellent and one not to be missed, thanks to our guide whom without, the tour would not have been half as good. I have attached a picture, if you know who she is please let me know.
What a great tour of Etna from the port of Catania. Our guide Floriana, met us at the designated spot in time. She was very knowledgeable and passionate about the whole Etna region. Her inputs put life into our trip and she was very accommodating and helpful. We opted for the less strenuous crater trek of Etna, which was super fun and easy. The packed picnic lunch was really yummy with vegetarian options of Pizzas and mushroom filled calzones. Just loved the taste of Sicily. This is a must do tour. We also stopped to see a lava cave enroute to the top. Floriana happily showed us around Catania too, as we had a few hours to spare before our ship left the port! Super thoughtful and super gracious! Thank you so much for making our day in Catania so memorable!
Waaw. Etna itself is magnificent, but with our guide Flo (Floriana) the whole experience was superb. She told us a lot of interesting stuff about Sicilian traditions, history, flora and fauna. Her love for the volcano is contagious. We couldn’t wish for better excursion.
The tour was amazing. Our guide Janet was great, she is a geologist and was able to provide interesting information about everything we saw. The day we went was cloudy and we couldn't see that far but i'm not sure if that didn't actually make the experience more impressive. We had a picnic mid day with sicilian specialties which tasted great. At the end we also went into a small volcanic cave which was very interesting. For the tour they pick you up close to your home and return there again after. After the tour you pay in cash. I would highly recommend having the correct amount as often there is no change at hand.
My husband and I had a wonderful tour on the Etna followed by a great lunch. Our guide, Tony, was also very knowledgeable and very friendly. Recommended!
At only €49, the trip was led by a knowledgeable guide (in our case Georgio- who had an excellent sense of humour too!) that gave a lot of information on vulcanoes and Etna's history. After walking up various craters and caves in hired out equipment, we were given proper fresh tavola di caldo (snacks- mini pizzas, aranginis), water and wine. Well worth every penny! Would recommend it to anyone.
I went on tour with my brother, his wife, their oldest teen and his father-in-law. Giuseppe our guide was amazing. His knowledge of the volcano was excellent and his pace in leading the tour was spot on. We had a wide age range from 17-70 and he paced our group wonderfully. The lunch provided was amassing as was the wine, too. I look forward to coming back on tour with this company. I’d also request Giuseppe - his lead made the tour absolutely memorable.
Many Thanks to the coolest guide Giuseppe who showed us the beauty of Etna volcano. It was easy to do, very light but beautiful path. Giuseppe revealed to us a lot of interesting facts.
Fun day out on a chilly morning at the mountain. Our guide Salvatore was not only knowledgeable about geology, he was also an expert in explaining the mechanics of the volcano. Even though I was the only English speaking participant and the rest spoke Italian, he expalined in English so I could understand. I highly recommend this operator.
One should definitely visit Etna while staying in Catania! This Morning experience trip was perfect because it takes 5 to 6 hours, starts and ends in the city center, brings you to a cave and several craters and the agency offers all necessary equipment included in the price. Our guide Iorga, volcanologist and archeologist, was able to explain a lot about the volcano and its activity and was very helpful along the trip.
We spent a day with Iorga on Etna. He speaks fluently french, is very attentive and has shown an important knowledge about Etna and history of Catania. Last but not least, he is really funny and kind ! Go with Iorga on Etna !!!!
This was an excellent trip that covered the south side of the Volcano through the villages which is perfect as it avoids all the tourist trap elements. Our guide Giovanni was excellent, he is studying geology so was able to perfectly explain the Volcano, it’s regular eruptions (or little explosions as he put it!) and all the scientific information you could possibly need - he even used the black earth as his ‘blackboard’ to explain the main vent, side vents and how magma travelled. It was amazing and very personal. This company uses local students as guides so their knowledge is extremely good and a real bonus. If you are considering many of the possible trips - we would definitely recommend this one!! Driving through the mountain forest to then come across old lava flows was breathtaking and beautiful
Danilio was our excellent tour guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us so much information. Was well equipped to answer questions. We packed absolutely loads into our half day trip. The trip started with an hour drive where he gave us a history of the Volcano (which he studies as a Vulcanologist on weekdays. He drove us to a parking area where coats were provided. From there we began our ascent. The climb itself was only 300m approx. We would have preferred to go higher. All along the way he was able to point out lava flows and tell us how they were formed. We explored a lava tuube with flashlights and had lunch and wine provided for us. He drove us to a viewpoint for Bove Valley but due to fog we could see nothing. All in all would recommend! You could probably drive us the side of Etna and hike yourself but you wouldn't know what you were looking at and would miss out on the history and expertise a tour guide provides. We definitely think it was worth taking a tour. (We are both students but did not make this known to our guide until the end when it was too late so let them know in advance if you want the student rate)
A beautiful and suggestive experience, a special thanks to Danilo an exceptional guide. Thank you so much Mariangela Di Gaetano
Great hike! Pick up in the center of Catania near our accommodation. Guide very prepared, Francis was really exhaustive and prepared! Wonderful landscapes among the sylvan craters and in the lava cave!
We ventured to Mount Etna then and first in the Cassone cave on Sunday morning departing at 8:30. Our guides, with 2 VANs, recovered us in Catania near the b & b, at the base camp they provided us with boots and jackets for those without them, at the cave they gave us helmets with light and on the volcano they explained everything and more, making us take an unforgettable walk. After the trek we returned to the base camp where we had lunch with local food and wine from Etna, finally they drove us back to Catania for about 15. Unforgettable experience also thanks to our guides, Giovanni and Francesco, two lovely guys, very prepared, polite, nice and beautiful!
An expert in history, geology and agronomist, Augustus was an exceptional guide. He transmitted to us with passion and professionalism many notions about his territory and Mount Etna, we spent together a morning of which we will hardly forget smells, images and sensations. Departure before sunrise, sunrise with packed breakfast, on the horizon the Bay of Cyclops. Fun gip tour in the woods of Etna. Visit with helmet in a lava tunnel and walk on Silvestri craters. The weather conditions are decisive in choosing the itinerary, the certainty is that with Augustus you are on the safe side! We will definitely come back for more breathtaking experiences.
Hello. Nice guide but you don't always hear what says If you ever see yourself taking pictures next to lava...forget...this is our only disappointment.. you might as well go for a quad or solo gorge excursion 200th for 2 people. Certainly magnificent craters but still disappointed Poor quality price. Besides, we didn't get to the top
