Alex was amazingly knowledgeable about volcanoes and we learned so much from him. He showed us the different types of lava flows and took us inside a snow cave where they used the snow to make ice in the old days. Afterwards we went to Gambino winery for a tasting. Highly recommend.
We booked this excursion a day ahead as we weren’t sure how the weather was going to be. Since it was a bit of a rushed decision, I didn’t fully look into the details of what we were doing. As a result, I was completely blown away. For starters, our guide Alex was SO knowledgeable about volcanoes. I truly felt like I was on a series being made for the Discovery Channel the entire excursion because he knew so much. The tour itself started with a drive through Mt. Etna’s forest, where we learned all about how the volcanic ash adds nutrients to the soil causing the vegetation to truly thrive there. Our first stop was a cave made from lava flow. It was very interesting learning about how the lava and gasses shaped the caves structure and how it was used for an ice business back in the day. From there, we went further up Mt. Etna, passing by what seemed like fields of volcanic rock making it seem like we were on another planet. We stopped at a cute mountain chalet for some coffee in the woods, then continued our ascent to the hiking portion of the tour. In all honesty, I thought we booked a tour that didn’t have much hiking as I recently had ACL reconstruction surgery and I was a bit worried about what my knee could handle. While there were a few areas that challenged my ability, overall it was quite easy and Alex ensured we were safely getting around. We stopped every now and then to learn about the craters and the volcanic bombs and basically everything else that has to do with actual eruptions. After exploring the area, we made our way to Gambino Winery for an experience that was truly special. The lunch was the best food we’ve had since being in Italy and the wine was PHENOMENAL. Our waiter/sommelier was so nice, knowledgeable, and kept the wine flowing. I was honestly in shock over how much wine we got out of the experience. My partner is the type of person who doesn’t love to do tours and things of that nature, but he also had an amazing time. We truly cannot thank Alex enough for the incredible experience he provided for us. If you’re looking for a tour of Mt. Etna that combines adventure with a luxurious relaxing afternoon, look no further.
An absolute highlight—Alex is the best guide! Our Mt. Etna hiking experience far exceeded all of our expectations, and that is entirely thanks to our fantastic guide, Alex! He truly made the whole experience for us. His knowledge and passion for the volcano were completely contagious, and we learned so much throughout the hike. The morning with Alex on Mt. Etna was amazing; he is a faunt of knowledge, excellent English, and not just about Etna but volcanoes all over the world. It made for an incredible experience on the volcano. The afternoon wine tour at Gambino was excellent as well; generous pouring of wines, refills not question, and a very wonderful 4 course expected lunch. The entire visit was worth every penny and more!
Alex was wonderful. We had bad weather so weren’t able to go on mountain yet he found other interesting sights like an ice cave. Also very kind and fun. Extremely knowledgeable.

I had a wonderful time. It is cold on the mountain, bring a jacket and wear pants. Alex, the tour guide, was the best we could've asked for. He knows EVERYTHING. The description doesn't say much about the wine tasting. They provide a ton of food and drink. It is totally worth it! Everyone in the group was fantastic!

We booked a tour for Mt. Etna and the Gambino Vineyard with pick up right from our hotel in Giardini Naxos. The whole booking and meeting with our guide was smooth. We were picked up by Alex- and to our surprise we were the only ones on the tour today! We were so lucky to have him all to ourselves! His love of and experience at Mt. Etna was amazing! He truly knew his stuff and made it easily understood! He was so considerate of our needs (especially me and my low blood sugars as we ascended the mountain)! We stopped at a chalet for coffee and pastry and then we were on our way! We took pics (with Alex too), joked around and had such an amazing day! Every other guide we met knew him by name and there was such a camaraderie between them! We then left the craters and went to Gambino vineyard! What an experience there! The wine and food pairings were delicious! We loved our tour and a big part of that was due to Alex’s knowledge, personality and sense of humor! We would highly recommend this tour!
I am so happy I decided to book my tour with Lady Etna Tours. Alex came and picked me up and then we headed to our first stop. In the car he shared his knowledge about volcanos so by the time we reached our 1st stop, I knew everything about volcanos that I needed to know! Alex is a fantastic host and guide. His knowledge and passion for volcanos is second to none. Alex also made sure I had a great experience while focusing on safety at the same time. If you want to have a tour with someone who is passionate beyond belief about volcanoes then Alexandru is your guide. He has an incredible knowledge that I have never experienced towards volcanoes. He told us he travels to volcanoes on every one of his vacations. That is the type of passion he has for them. The winery is also fantastic from the views to the wine to the amazing food pairings.

A fabulous trip with our guide Alex. What Alex doesn’t know about Etna and volcanoes in general isn’t worth knowing. Alex entertained us with his knowledge of volcanoes and local folk law. The hike along the craters was pretty straightforward and whilst walking boots weren’t necessary they were a great help, you could get away with trainers with a good grip. We wore shorts and T-shirts as the weather was very mild but took an extra layer or two just in case. The wine tasting was fabulous too. We tested 5 wines at this family run winery and the wines to our surprise were paired with cheeses, meats, a main course and a desert! A fabulous day out that I would highly recommend.
Alex was an excellent tour guide and the entire tour was fantastic to learning about Mount Etna and its volcanic history to the amazing late lunch we had at the winery that he took us too. Overall, an excellent tour and highly recommend it especially if you are traveling with friends.
Alex was a great guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about Mt Etna. He was very helpful as we walked. The hike was not strenuous but one must not have any mobility issues. The Gambino winery was in a beautiful setting and gave a great amounts of food and wines. The experience was one of the highlights of our two week trip in Sicily.
The tour of Etna and the wine tasting afterwords was a perfect combination of hiking, education on Etna and volcanic effusions and eruptions, and a mid-afternoon apertivo. Alex was an informed, professional, and hilarious guide for our journey to and up Etna. He has a passion for volcanic activity and happily answered any question we asked. He knows about the history of Etna, the frequency and effects of eruptions, and global activity as well. The transport in an air conditioned van was very comfortable, and Alex had everything we needed for our safe, enjoyable excursion: the first activity was a brief descent into a small volcanic cave, and the second was a managable ascent to view the many craters and wildlife on the north side of the mountain. Alex kept us laughing and informed throughout, and in the mid-afternoon, we were able to sit and relax with the most delicious selection of regional wines from a family-owned winery. Paired with those wines was a generous sampling of bread, cheese, meat, gazpacho, which was followed by a small plate of spinach, potato and sausage. We are all amazed at how much received for the money we paid. A perfect day, a wonderful guide, spectacular views, and phots and memories I return to again and again!
This tour was thoroughly enjoyable and extremely informative. Our guide Alex made the experience memorable with his vast knowledge of Mount Etna and volcanos all over the world. His passion for the subject is contagious and I wouldn’t want any other guide for this type of tour because of his warm personality. He was also very attentive to our individual needs in the group and helped make sure I descended safely from the hiking portion as I wore the wrong sneakers. Advice to fellow travelers: wear sneakers with sufficient tread to prevent sliding on small rocks/gravel, bring a hat and light jacket, wear sunscreen, bring a bottle of water. The wine tasting was also fabulous in every way-wine, service and food. Overall this was the highlight of our stay in Taormina and we HIGHLY recommend you book this particular tour. Alex had a great deal of knowledge on volcanoes and Sicily he shared. It was have been great to dive more into the wider history of the islands and diversify the information. Gambino winery was excellent and they were generous with food and wine, but ren minutes to have an espresso outside after a meal and enjoy the grounds would have been appreciated. Lastly, please include the inclusions on the trip in the booking like F&B as we all packed snacks and share an itinerary with timings once we are all on board

We explored Mount Etna from the northern side as a family (my wife and our two teenage children) and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Sicily. We were lucky to have a clear, sunny day, which made the volcanic landscapes and views absolutely spectacular. Our guide, Alex from Lady Etna Tour, made all the difference. A true professional, very friendly and approachable, he completely “infected” us with his passion for Lady Etna. Through clear, engaging explanations, he helped us understand the volcano, lava flows, past eruptions and the geological history of the area, in a way that was interesting for both adults and teenagers. During the tour we visited a lava tube cave, known as the “Ice Factory”, formed by an ancient lava flow—an impressive and unexpected experience. We also explored all seven Sartorius craters (Monti Sartorius) on the northern flank of Etna, named after the German geologist Sartorius von Waltershausen. Walking among these volcanic cones was one of the most fascinating parts of the excursion. The tour was extremely well organised, with a relaxed pace, strong emphasis on safety and plenty of time to enjoy and understand what we were seeing. Alex was always happy to answer questions and kept everyone engaged throughout. The experience ended with a generous lunch featuring local Sicilian products, which was the perfect way to conclude an unforgettable day. We had the best time on this tour .. the communication prior to the tour was good with Tiziana! On the day we met Alex our guide for the day ! A man who is so passionate on all things volcanoes, kind and cared to ensure all in the group had a good experience! We started driving up the mountain and stoping for a quick Espressos and then went trough a cave and then we went hiking the crater .. hiking shoes and walking sticks were provided plus helmet for the caves! What a lovely day .. sun shining and snow and fresh air with a fun and knowledgeable and a guide who took safety seriously! Hey guys ..🤓 also we then finished off with an amazing wine tasting of 6 beautiful wines plus lunch ! No Complains here as refills of good and wine were given .. 10/10 tour .. thank you 🙏
What a wonderful tour of an outdoor activity hiking into a crater, deep dive into a cave and finishing off with tasting of wonderful wines of ETNA region at Gambino winery. First - communication with Tiziana was very good and prompt ! Then on the day we met Alex our tour guide for the next 7 hours ! Alex Is so passionate and well versed in all things volcanoes .. He really made the effort to ensure that we all had a great time - telling us great jokes and taught us about ETNA and stories on all things volcanoes 🌋 ! during the tour one of the guest were not well and it was good to see the care he took to look after the guest by giving some options ! Plus later he also Made sure he came back to check on the guests a few more times! The wine tasting was also 1st class where we were given 5 glasses to try plus a plate of cold cuts and cheeses, chickpeas and lentil soup, main course of one of the best BBQ sausages I have had and finishing of with Sicilian canoli . We have been to wineries where there is a limit on how They pour .. but at Gambjno they know How to treat their customers ..with tops up if wines and food .. Thank you for such a wonderful experience and representation of such warmth, care and his hospitality is top notch ! If you are looking for a good tour - you will NOT be disappointed ! An outstanding trip in a clean minivan. A highly educational tour down a lava tunnel followed by a mild trek to some of Etnas lower cones to understand the impact of Etna on local life and the fascinating geology and geomorphology of the area. Alex was a brilliant guide and this tour is very definitely highly recommended. Lunch and wine tasting was a lovely culinary experience and one of the best meals I have had in Sicily. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

My friend and I booked this tour. We were unfortunately out of pick up zone and the trains were on strike. We were able to pay a supplement for a pick up, which ended up being a private driver all day so a special shout out to Tiziana!! The tour itself was excellent. Stopped at a small lodge for comfort break then headed to the volcano. Alex was very passionate and had lots of facts and stories. The hike itself was short, around 1.5hrs with lots of stops along the way. The cave was beautiful and you were provided with helmet and torch. The winery stop was brilliant, very peaceful and you got 5 glasses of wine and a lot more food than anticipated! All in all a wonderful day, would highly recommend. Stacey and Beth
My friend and I did a tour of Lady Etna, and it was truly an unforgettable experience! Being so close to the vulcano was incredible. The landscape is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Our tour guide, Alex, was fantastic. He spoke with so much passion and knowledge about the volcanoes, their history, and the science behind them. It made the whole experience not just fun, but also really interesting and educational. After exploring Etna, we had a wine tasting which was another highlight. The wines were absolutely delicious, and the setting was beautiful. A perfect way to relax and enjoy the local flavors after the volcano adventure. Highly recommend this tour!
