This was hands down the best part of our trip! Joseph and Rosabella welcomed us with open arms and made us feel right at home. We had such a wonderful time and learned how easy and fun it can be to make pasta at home. Joseph shared so much interesting information about the area and its history, while Rosabella provided us with simple, clear cooking instructions. Both were incredibly kind and welcoming. Communication and updates before the excursion were excellent as well. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Messina. It was a truly memorable experience and a highlight of our trip!

Stefania and her family are great hosts! We felt very comfortable in their home and the ravioli and tiramisu was delicious. The special touches they added for my birthday made it lovely way to spend my birthday!
Absolutely wonderful experience! Mariella was an incredible host. She was prompt for our pick up time and drove us ~20 min outside of the city center to her house. We used Google translate for communication and had no issues with that at all. Her home was beautiful and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend this experience for anyone visiting Messina.
Absolutely amazing experience!! Stefania and her family were so welcoming and created the perfect day for us. Food was delicious, and we had a great time!
Very friendly family who opens their home with such graciousness . The pasta was delicious. Lots of lively conversation
Cesarina was amazing. From beginning to end. This is an experience I will never forget. The food was amazing and the family took time to explaining everything. The experience included photos that they shared with us to remember this experience forever
We had the best time!! This was a once in a life time experience with Consuelo. She was the sweetest host and we honestly are so grateful for this experience. We would go back and do it again in a heartbeat. We all learned how to make pasta and dessert from scratch. She was also very sweet with our kids. 1,000% one of the coolest experiences we have booked! Highly recommend!
Perfect! Learned to make the most delicious tiramisu, pasta and an appetizer. So much fun and we immediately made a shopping list so we could make at home. Conseula was the most gracious hostess. Her house is so charming and she picked us up and dropped us back off. Couldn't have asked for a better outing. Plenty of time left over to explore Meßina too!
Mariella met us at the port and we walked to her flat near the Cathedral. She used Google Translate to chat to us which worked well but was sometimes hilarious! She lives in a charming third floor flat, but there is a small lift so don’t be daunted. Mariella and Giovanni made the whole experience very enjoyable by their warmth and friendliness. Mariella helped us make fresh pasta - tagliatelle and ravioli for our main course, and to fill locally bought cannoli for dessert. We had Prosecco, wine and appetisers all made from local ingredients. A wonderful array of Sicilian cuisine. We felt we had an authentic taste of Sicily in more ways than one. Being guests in Mariella’s home and eating pasta made with our own fair hands was amazing, but also hearing a violin playing Schubert in the Cathedral at noon while we were enjoying our delicious lunch made it just magical. We would thoroughly recommend.
The hospitality was superb, we really enjoyed our host, the food was delicious. Overall a great experience and would recommend to anyone spending a day in Messina.
Incredible and personal teaching experience with our chef, Mariella in her beautiful home. She picked us up and dropped us back to the port. We made pasta, focaccia, and other dishes which we had for lunch with wine. Such a great and warm experience
Very comfortable, felt very welcomed. Mariella ran a fun and interesting cooking class. A high point in our trip.
My wife Sherry wanted to know how to make pasta from scratch, so I found a Viator tour that was exactly what she wanted. We were picked up at Cathedral and driven to her beautiful home overlooking the city. Mariana was a gracious and kind woman who did not speak English! She used a translator ap which worked wonderfully. She was a wonderful host and chef. I made my first homemade pasta from scratch, as well! We ha a delicious and delightful experience,. Good food, wonderful home, and an amazing hostess!
We had a great time at our cooking class. We find this home very nice and the cooking instructions were great!
It was an absolute dream to cook with Rosella and her family in their home. The pasta was so delicious. The directions to her home took us to an odd location. Thankfully, Rosella was great thru WhatsApp and after a short 500m walk we were at her building. A tip for others, if you are doing this during a cruise, book a private car for both ways. The taxi fleeced us for 70 euro to go 1.7 miles. This is not walkable from the port so we took a cab. The expo was amazing though! You’ll be assigned a local cook after you book, perhaps your location will be walkable!
Where do I begin… If you plan on taking a pasta making class, I’d highly recommended this one. I guarantee you’ll feel as wonderful and welcomed as we did ending the evening with this wonderful and inviting couple. Rossella and Giuseppe. During the course we sampled sparkling wine, snacks and appetizers, made our pasta from scratch, learned about the local culture and discussed ingredients for authentic red and white cream sauces. We closed out the afternoon by enjoying our delicious creations with a wonderful bottle of paired red wine and freshly made cannolis. On our departure, we were each gifted a parting gift from Rossella. This afternoon was the BEST part of visiting Vanetta. AWESOME from start to finish. I can’t say enough about this wonderful experience and guarantee you’ll feel the same way.
Our cooking class with Mariella was everything we hoped for and more! Our family of 6 laughed and had a great time and with the help of Google translate, we cooked pasta, focaccia, and other Sicilian dishes! We were in Messina for a cruise ship port, and booked the cooking class. Mariella and her sister in law picked us up and took us to her home, with a gorgeous view overlooking the Messina straight. This was different than a typical tourist day and we highly recommend! Mariella is the sweetest and we felt truly welcomed into her home and visiting a family member!
Guisy’s teaching and lunch in her beautiful garden was one of the highlights of our Mediterranean cruise vacation. I learned how to make delicious pasta from scratch along with other delightful accompanying dishes. Guisy was so gracious and helpful. At the end of our event she escorted our small group to her local grocery store since I had mentioned that visiting groceries in foreign countries is one of my passions. Then she arranged for our cab trip back to the port. I would highly recommend this tour - and ask for Guisy! Her home is right on the beach!
Mariella was our host and she was absolutely lovely! We had so much fun using the google translator which added to the authenticity of our experience. Her home is beautiful and set up very well for the cooking class and dining. Her very sweet husband John was behind the scenes putting things in the oven etc as we continued to create new dishes. Mariella made the experience fun for me, my husband, and our two adult sons. It was my husbands birthday and he said it was his favorite birthday outing. It was nice spending time with locals and pause from the traditional sight seeing rush. We loved every minute! I highly recommend you add it to your trip, and if you're lucky, you'll get Mariella.
We had the most wonderful time cooking and then sharing our meal with the Canto Family. First of all, Giuseppe even picked us up from our hotel! We were greeted so warmly they made us feel so welcomed, and I fell we became friends by the end of the evening. Beautiful Rosella, taught us to make pasta from scratch, and we learned of the delicious Christmas Cookie tradition, that I intend to incorporate this Christmas with my family. This is a must do when in Messina!
Rosella and Giuseppe were warm, wonderful people. The meal we made together was so flavorful and the memory will be a cherished one for years to come.
I cannot recommend this experience enough!! My husband and I were on our honeymoon, and wanted to experience a true Italian cooking class. This is that experience. We were welcomed into Daniela's home, learned about the culture, and even got to try some yummy Sicilian snacks before we dove in. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. This was the best part of our trip to Italy!!! Highly recommend!
We had such a wonderful time with Maria, we instantly felt like we were hanging out with friends we had known a long time. Her home is lovely and all of the food was excellent. I can’t wait to go home and try to make my own pasta! This was the most memorable part of our entire trip and we hope to be able to return again someday.
Mariella was amazing that's all I can say! We are a family of 5 - 2 adults _+ 3 kids ages 16, 14, and 12. We all enjoyed the food and most importantly the overall experience, process of making food, and the wonderful meal together. Mariella is a wonderful host who welcomed us into her home and gave us "the best day of our vacation".
Such a wonderful local experience! Consuelo was extremely helpful and responsive. She made it so easy to connect via coming off a cruise ship and picked us up on her own car and welcomed us into her home for the most amazing meal in our lives. We learned her families recipes and she was so kind and welcoming!
We booked this largely based upon other reviewers saying how it was the best excursion of their vacation. And now we would agree! We did this as a family and I agree with our son who said he liked that it was not touristy. We actually had to use Google translate to communicate! Our Cesarine, Mariella and her friend, Johnny were welcoming and kind but did not speak English! And it did not stop or hinder us all from learning how to make homemade stuffed raviolis and cannolis! We laughed cooked and had fun together! A truly authentic good time! Highly recommend!
I booked this experience largely based upon the reviews. I liked that many felt it was the best excursion of their vacation. And now I can say the same! You get paired with a Cesarine cook - and for our family we were paired with Mariella. Mariella welcomed us into her home along with her friend Johnny and our family. We made home made stuffed raviolis! And cannolis! Johnny diced the sweetest tomatoes for our bruschetta. Plus we had delicious cured meats and olives and cheeses. It’s not only fun, it feels non touristy! We spent the day with an Italian couple in their natural surroundings, used Google translate to communicate, laughed, cooked and ate together! What a fabulous way to enjoy a day in Italy!! For us, this day was in sunny Sicily!
Wow! We spent 3 weeks in Italy and we all agreed this Italian cooking experience was our absolute favorite!! We so enjoyed meeting our Ceserina Rossella and her cousin Federica!!! They were both so charming and mad us feel like family in their home. We were very impressed with her kitchen and home. We wanted to see how real Italian families live and this experience gave us a look into their lives. Now the best part was learning to make homemade pasta, eggplant appetizer and Tiramisu!!! We had such a great time cooking, learning Italian, sharing stories of our Italian heritage and laughing. The food was fantástico!!! The after dinner drinks were delish and we left with memories we will never forget. Out of everything there is to do and see in Italy, meeting a family and cooking with them was truly special. We would give this 10 stars out of 10 if we could. Grazie Rossella and Federica❤️❤️❤️
A great way to immerse yourself in Italian life style. The whole family joined in to make this a perfect afternoon, and by the end of the day we were in love with them. My only criticism would be that the the house is difficult to find. They need to find a better way to meet uo.
Maria could not have been kinder! She welcomed us into her home and the cooking experience was top notch! We loved meeting her family and the food was yummy!
At the last minute while on cruise docking the next day in Messina, I began searching the internet for some type of “food” experience and ran across Le Cesarine. I was able to make and confirm reservations for “Typical dining experience with cooking demo in Messina” online. When we docked and got off the ship, we were able to walk to the location in 20 minutes and enjoyed the local scenery on the way. It was apparent we where out of the “tourist zone” and into a urban neighborhood, which was a nice change from the crowded tourist area. When we arrived, we were met by Maria Costanza Gugino who took us into her beautiful home and welcomed us as if we were old friends. After a nice tour of her home, she took us to the kitchen where we met her father who was helping with the lunch preparations. She quickly served us a glass of wine to accompany the snacks before appetizers. Next came a tray of salami and local cheeses to munch on while we watched her cooking demonstration which would become our forthcoming meal. Maria prepared a sandwich type dish she called “poor people food”, which was a round load of wonderful homemade bread cut in half with part of the center torn out and replace with fried eggplant, fresh tomato, cheese, marinated eggplant spread, and more. FANTASTIC!!! This along with strips of fried eggplant were our second round of appetizers. All the while we’re enjoying the “show” as she prepared the tomato sauce and eggplant to go with our homemade pasta which had been prepared earlier that morning. She then moved on to the secondi, two beautiful beef rollatinis, one stuffed cheese and the other with tomato. This was all accompanied a beautiful fennel salad. And of course, more wine. “ECCELLENTE!!!” Finally, we finished with a delicious dessert of pudding with fresh chocolate both inside and sprinkled on top. We had enough wonderful food to last for days and it was all “PERFETTO”!!! But more importantly, was the experience. Within a few minutes Maria and her father made us feel like family. We were in her kitchen sharing the experience and then in her family dining room as if we were truly her family. “Papa” didn’t speak English, but the communication was there in actions and facial expressions. Maria’s cooking was only excelled by her passion for food, friends and making us feel like long lost family. If you are ever in Messina, you must find Maria and book an experience with her. You’ll make a friend for life and enjoy one of the finest homecooked meals of your life. My words can do this justice you must review the photographs.
