It was a fun and inexpensive way to hit the highlights of Cefalu. Unfortunately you had to pay admission to fully see each stop which we didn’t do. It was still fun and informative and was great that you could do it at your own pace.

Itinerary
The Basilica of the Transfiguration or better known as the Cathedral of Cefalù is a monument that reflects the Arab-Norman influence on the island, it was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2015. An amazing building!
Due to its strategic position on the sea, Cefalù was exposed to attacks by pirates and looters for centuries, especially during the Middle Ages. Since the 5th century BC, the city has been protected by a solid megalithic wall, which embraced the entire Rocca, extending from one end of the gulf to the other. A "must-visit" when in Cefalù !
The Bastione di Capo Marchiafava was built around the 17th century and marks the northern end of the city walls on the sea side of Cefalù. Its polygonal shape, with the tip jutting out towards the sea, recalls the bow of a ship, making it a privileged observation point. From this elevated position you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire gulf.
In ancient times access to the town was exclusively through four gates, each of which was carefully guarded to ensure the safety of the inhabitants. Of these four gates, only one has survived over time and it is Porta Pescara, also known as Porta del Viceré. While the others were destroyed with the demolition of some sections of the walls. Let's discover it!
The washhouse still visible today is the result of a series of works and restorations carried out over the centuries, although some sources attest that it already existed in the Middle Ages. Let's discover this amazing piece of art from the past!
The Mandralisca Museum in Cefalù presents a variety of collections, including archaeological finds, paintings, furniture and objects of great historical value. If you like art, you have to see this place!
The Rocca di Cefalù is an imposing 268-meter hill that overlooks the city, offering a breathtaking view of the Sicilian coast. This historical and naturalistic site is characterized by ancient fortifications, such as the Temple of Diana from the 9th century BC and the remains of the Castle of Cefalù from the 13th century, which I will tell you about later.

Well worth the money. Easy to follow
I’m sure the information was good but I couldn’t stand the narration. I’m guessing it was read by a text to voice app but the American accent was very strong and a lot of the Italian names were mis-pronounced. I had to abandon it half way through.
Very happy with this self guided audio tour. All the information I needed came through the day before. I didn’t use the audio section and just chose to read the comprehensive notes and I didn’t use things in different order starting with the castle and climbing La Rocco first thing before crowds and heat. Had a lovely day using this wonderful service that Matteo provides and found it a great way to get around to the major points of interest at your own pace. Definitely good value for money and I really liked the concept of having a digital guide.
Easy to follow guide, informative and well routed. Only minor inconvenience was having to return to hotel to get full shoes for access to Temple and Castle on The Rock, which were needed due to the uneven paths in places.
Needed to fill in a gap in our trip and our hotel was close to Cefalù, so we began the search for a self guided tour that was walkable and gave options on what to see or skip etc. the path linkage to Google Maps was great in helping us navigate the city streets. Would highly recommend this tour for those who want a high level overview of the history and city highlights. Well worth the cost and appreciated the flexibility the app provided to skip ahead, or repeat. We also listened to the tour prior to going so we were a little more familiar with what we would encounter.
Nice little tour! If you are doing a day-trip to Cefalu from Palermo - money well spent! DIY at its best!
Got to see parts of Cefalu that we would never have found.
I found the experience to be quite interesting and very informative.. it took longer than expected and therefore did not finish the tour.
Had difficulty downloading the tour, to the extent we had to buy another ticket, but the price is so good it wasn't the end of the world. It would be good if the tour guide actually narrated the tour, rather than AI reading the script. But i felt we got a good feel of the town, and loved going up La Rocca, despite the heat. Views were amazing!
Very easy app and a great way to see and hear about Cefalu at your own pace
Easy to navigate, informative self guided tour. Great way to see Cefalu.
The routing, mapping and information in this self tour was excellent and even better than my guidebooks, plus it’s right in your hand . At first though I didn’t have phone data available, so be sure to have internet accessibility while doing so .
Detailed history and local information delivered very clearly. Very easy to follow route using google maps.
Great way to skip the ticket line which was very long Very nice walk Not that steep but poles are helpful
Nice overview of this breathtaking area!
You can spread this over 3 days if you don’t want to do it all at once. There was just the right amount of information to make sites interesting but not over the top with details.
Awesome that one can use this guide flexible once downloaded as audio or text I did the route in two days
A lot of information on the sites but directions needed from one to the other. It was too difficult to follow
What a fabulous alternative! I thoroughly enjoyed this very well scripted and coordinated self-guided tour. The directions were precise and simple to follow. I was able to set my own pace and understand the key areas of interest through this very effective tour option. And of course, the price is right! I wish there were this option in each of the cities as it would definitely be a “go to”consideration based on this very positive experience.
I will always love a walking tour given by someone. We book this for Cefalu after a normal walking tour cancelled on us and wasn't so thrilled. At the end it was very nice to walk flexibly around the seeing points and stop whenever and how long we wanted. I think this is perfect for some small places that have not much offers for free walking tours. For people who like to do their trips alone then is just better for all possible places!
This was my first time visiting Sicily. I definitely recommend this guide! Without it I would have been aimlessly walking around. I loved that I could stop at different shops and restaurants in between each destination. I plan on using this same approach with other cities in the future.
Great way to see the city of Cefalu and learn all about its history at your own pace. We wondered how well this ‘virtual’ tour would work, but the audio descriptions were great and the use of Google maps to take you to the next location worked seamlessly. We saw much more than we would have done on a purely self-guided wander around the city. Just be aware that the tour ends with a walk up the Rocca di Cefalu. This is highly recommended for all travellers to the city - the views from the top are spectacular - but it’s a bit of a climb so trainers and a relatively early start to avoid the heat of the midday sun are recommended.
This was a really useful and economic way of being guided around Cefalu We usually go for the ‘free’ walking tours, but when none were available this was a great alternative. Not only did it provide a sensible tour of the city and its places of interest but also added entertaining anecdotes and legends. The only drawback is that in order to follow the directions on your phone you need access to the internet, but you could easily follow on a paper map (hence 4 rather than 5 stars) Self- guiding has the advantage of allowing you to spend as long or as little in a place as takes your fancy. You can also stop for a drink or something to eat whenever you want to. The guide to Cefalu was available for 4 days, so you really can take your time if you want to. Don’t download until you know you are ready to go, or the tour might expire before you have chance to do it. Would definitely recommend.
Getting onto the website for the tour was easy enough. The map inside of it though is pretty cumbersome to use. You have to scroll up & down constantly to see where you need to go & then to get back to the next audio portion of the tour. Eventually, I just told my husband where we needed to go next & he Google Mapped it. Also, know that you need to pay extra if you want to go into any of the museum exhibits listed in the tour. However, what really burnt me was that the narrator constantly mispronounced the name of the town. If the company running the website wants to sound competent then the east they could do is pronounce the name of Cefalu correctly. To me, that just seems lazy & unprofessional. I'm glad we didn't pay anymore than what we did.
Simply exceptional. For those who believe they can do without it with AI: maybe. But it is absolutely not the same thing. The requested contribution is worth every penny.
It allows you to organize the visit in an orderly way and easily find the points of interest
Operating via the browser and navigating to the spots is somewhat uncomfortable. But in the end everything worked and the tour with the information provided was fun. 👍
Very well organized online city tour. Extensively described and very interesting. Explicit recommendation
