We had a fantastic time on the food tour with Alfio, getting to try 4 different varities of sweet Sicilian food! Alfio was so friendly, welcoming and easy to get along with, making the whole experience really enjoyable from start to finish. The food was delicious, and we loved getting to try a variety of local sweet Sicilian specialties. Alfio also shared lots of interesting history about Catania and Sicily, along with great recommendations for other places to eat during our stay. One of our favourite parts was sitting down together, enjoying some delicious Sicilian sweets and just having a great chat with Alfio. It was a wonderful way to experience the local food and culture, and we would highly recommend this tour to anyone with a sweet tooth visiting Catania. Itinerary
At the first stop we'll try the Iris: a preparation made of sweet fried leavened dough (similar to a krapfen or doughnut) that encloses a filling: the traditional one has sweet ricotta cream and chocolate pieces. In the Catania area, there is a variant with pistachio, chocolate and white cream as well as, of course, ricotta. Despite being sweet, it is counted among the classic street foods of Sicilian cuisine, being enjoyed hot and at all hours by locals and tourists alike.
We’ll also taste the Cassatina Siciliana: just hearing its name brings to mind a small, colorful cake filled with sweet ricotta and decorated with candied fruit. Each bite reveals a delicate balance of creamy filling and soft sponge, offering a true taste of Sicilian pastry tradition.
We'll get the chance to get refreshed thanks to the Sicilian granita - perfect for relaxing and cooling down on hot summer afternoons. It is served in a glass and is ideal to end a rich meal on a high note. Fresh fruit, sugar, and ice are the necessary ingredients - simple, but incredibly tasty!
How can we not taste the Sicilian Cannoli - the wafer, traditionally molded around a hot metal bar, is filled with a sweet and creamy preparation made with ricotta cheese, candied fruit, crunchy pistachios, or dark chocolate chips. An explosion of taste and color! You can find the recipe here.

We booked the 3-hour morning Catania street food tour with Do Eat Better Experience and had a wonderful time! Our local expert Allegra was passionate and knowledgeable, bringing real depth to the food and its history in relation to Catania. The tour started on time, and with just 6 of us in the group, it felt personal and relaxed. Allegra’s English was good and she happily answered all our questions along the way. The food itself was great quality with generous portions — come hungry! There was a good balance between tastings and walking, so it never felt rushed or overwhelming. Allegra also went out of her way to arrange vegetarian options for my family of 5, which we really appreciated. Great value for money overall. A brilliant way to experience Catania through its local food culture — highly recommend for anyone wanting an authentic taste of the city

We were coming from a cruise ship so had to navigate to the meeting point, we took a few wrong turns but made it a little late - once there we met Carolina. We had such a great tour with Carolina and thought she was brilliant. The sweet treats are fantastic from the different cafes you stop at along the way. If you do a morning tour maybe skip breakfast as you won’t need it! Highly recommend

We arrived late from our cruise ship, but Giuseppe, our guide, was so gracious to wait for us. There were only the 2 of us, and Giuseppe treated us like royalty. He shared his passion for the city and its local food and culture. The pastries were heavenly, and very large portions. The cannoli is the best in the world! If you like sweets, you can’t go wrong with this tour. I highly recommend it.
We experienced a taste of Sicilys finest. Although after the first tasting out of 4, we began to feel the need for sharing which wouldn’t justify the cost overall because we were not getting the full portion.
Dora, our guide, was friendly & fun to listen to with lots of local knowledge. Me & my friend were the only 2 on the tour so it was easy to ask questions & it was interesting to hear the background to the amazing desserts. We were very full by the end as we enjoyed 4 different desserts, sharing 2 & another was light granita (sorbet)! I think smaller taster bites of a greater selection & maybe more time between each venue for tasting would have been nicer.
