An excellent tour. Our driver, Peter, was charming and an excellent, safe, driver. Peter does not act as a guide so you need to appoint one at each location. At the Temples we were dropped off at the top of the valley and walked down to be met at the bottom. We didn't take the audio guide because we were told we had to to return it to the top but hadn't realised that Peter had planned to return us to the top after the tour. There are plenty of information boards, in English, but I suggest that you get the audio guide! The Roman mosaics were the most incredible that I have ever seen. We had a guide who was excellent and whizzed us round in the time that we had available to us. We had lunch on arrival but should not have lingered over it as you need as much time as possible to view the mosaics. The food and wine tasting was a bit underwhelming after the visits to the archaelogical sites but it was fun to taste the different olive oils and the honey variations. We drove through an incredible hail storm which was fascinating!

A long and amazing day visiting the ruins of Arigento. A downhill walk made the visit pleasant on a hot day. The ruins are spectacular and wellworth a visit. The highlight for us was the mosaics in the Villa. Truly magnificent! What masters they were!
Extraordinary classical sites. Despite the rain and cold, both places are unforgettable. And both Alessio and Roberto were fantastic. All well organized. You guys made it a special day!
Absolutely loved the tour. I was on a solo trip in Catania, and this was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. If you’re planning on booking a tour, this is the one you want to book. We had plenty of time to visit the sites, and our driver Peter was the absolute best. Highly recommend.
I went on this day tour with my grandmother. Peter was our tour guide and was very accommodating. He shared some good places to eat on the day, we drove past scenic views and listened to grandmother's favourite Italian music. It was a lovely experience. (Would recommend buying online tickets prior to the valley of the temples to eliminate time in the line).
Try to buy tickets online a day or two beforehand, to avoid (possible) queues. It seems the 1st Sunday of each month is free (but not always...)
The Agrigento ruins were amazing. Our guide Carmelo was very accommodating, a wonderful driver and we had plenty of time to see everything we wanted. Would highly recommend this tour.
The sites are well-known and there is not much to add. They are amazing. However, keep in mind that the driver is not your guide at the sites. He or she is just going to drop you off and pick you up afterwards. The experience with the “official” docents at the “Valle dei Templi” was actually poor (not Viator’s fault, it has nothing to do with it). No guide at all was available at “villa Romana” when we got there, though you can actually tour the site effectively on your own. My only real remark is that 2 hours at villa Romana, including lunch, were not enough. The villa is amazing and you’ll find yourself rushing through things you’d like to spend more time on.
We booked this trip because we wanted to relax and enjoy the road trip and the landscape during our trip in Sicily, without worrying about driving on roads we did not know. Alessio was a very competent driver and guide and made the whole experience very pleasant.
We had a great day visiting the Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana. We were picked up in Catania and driven across Sicily to visit these incredible sights. Going off other reviews, I think the amount of information you receive is based on your driver. Our driver was friendly and helpful, but this is not a guided tour. He answered our questions but wasn't there to give us a history lesson. He safely drove us across the island and back. Doing the maths, the tour costs a bit less of hiring a car and saves the hassle of navigating Sicily's roadworks and chaotic driving behaviour. Overall we had a great day and these are sights not to be missed!
Nice day very long Really pleasant driver But really didn’t provide any insight into any of the sites … not sure it was worth the price…
Had a great day out on this tour. Driver was friendly and helpful - met us at our accommodation and gave clear instructions at each stop. Lunch spot was yummy and affordable.
Amazing experience with terrific driver and guide. So much history in this magnificent setting. Adorable goats, interesting modern art sprinkled in, easy paths to navigate. Even the food truck had delicious offerings. Can’t miss this if you are in Sicily.
It was a great trip. Alessio knows a lot and speaks a few languages. We had a multilingual group, and he made sure everybody understood where we are and what it is, including legends and stories. Not a dull moment. Beware that in November tourist season ends and a lot of places are closing, food vendors by the attraction points including: if you have diet restrictions, might be a good idea to grab some food with you.
Basically a cab service (which is fine). We had 2 1/2 hours at Agrigento and an hour at Piazza Armerino. Both were well worth visiting. Would recommend buying Valley of Temples tickets in advance as there was quite a queue.
This tour was outstanding! Alessio picked us up directly from our hotel and explained how the day would pan out. This was a very informative tour, the valley of the temples really was a highlight of our holiday. The second part of the tour took us to Piazza Armerina to view some of the mosaics and the Villa Romana del Casale! As a note, the parc for valley of the temples was between 10-12 euros per person for entry.
We were lucky enough to source Alessio for our private tour for two couples. His reputation as excellent and experience tour-guide is well-earned - he is thoroughly personable & charming, locally born & raised and highly educated in history, architecture, European languages & philology. The drive was smooth and skilled in busy traffic initially and on return in rush hour - to drive so well but to simultaneously be confidently imparting a wide range of insights into the varying landscapes before us and life for Sicilians as it’s led now, and in years gone by. Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples was everything it’s vaunted to be - and Alessio answered questions pertinently and carefully. His own questioning of the various history-book theories of the provenance and dedications of each temple made Alessio’s tour extra fascinating! Off then to “the middle of nowhere” to discover the extraordinary extensive Roman Villa at Piazza Armerina…. and a brilliant array of mosaicked floors in every portion of this stunning find. Again, Alessio’s guidance was a huge help to making sense of the scenes depicted. Our only regret is that at no point did we see any display boards or video to attempt indicate the original bright colouration of the mosaics - something the site management could easily set up for visitors. A massive thank you to our guide and tour company owner.
The excursion is worth it, it is interesting and very beautiful, spectacular. Peter, our driver, was excellent, attentive to our needs. Bravo!!! Recommended.
Super !
It is impossible to go through Sicily and not visit the Valle del templi in Agrigento. It is a magnificent place with a history yet to be discovered. UNESCO heritage and above all an incredible testimony of the Greek printing press on this Bedda island. The tour offers all the comfort and experience and knowledge of professional guides willing to clarify any questions, in an atmosphere of trust. Alessio is a professional guide, gentle and always ready to offer a diversity of knowledge about the culture, art and idiosyncrasy of this land. Highly recommended not only for history lovers, but for those who appreciate beauty.
Alessio, guida preparatissima e splendido compagno di viaggio. Professionista eccellente, persona eccezionale
It was really worth this excursion. It left early from Palermo (06:40 am), but was necessary due to the long distances to travel. The guide who played us throughout the trip (his name was Nicola) was a young man from Agrigento, who knew the region very well and told us local stories and stories about the idiosyncrasies of the Sicilian people. Luckily he defended himself very well speaking in Spanish to my lady and me (of the group of tourists we were the only ones who spoke in Spanish). When we arrived at the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento (the archaeological park with Greek temples), the local guide – named Giovanna – was Nicola’s mother, and as she spoke in English to the rest of the tourists, Nicola kept speaking to us in Spanish, and always adding local stories and anecdotes (like that fantastic story when the inhabitants of Agrigento managed to put bags between the Greek temples to safeguard them from bombs during the military operations of the Allied soldiers during the Second World War). A tip: if you want to spend more time in the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento, it is better to do the tour dedicated exclusively to this archaeological park, and not the one that also includes Piazza Armerina, because it was obvious that by encompassing two important places in a single day, it would detract from time especially to the largest site in extension, that is, to Agrigento (we were one two hours, but it deserves to be at least three or four hours). As for Piazza Armerina, it really is wonderful the place, with beautifully preserved mosaics in the Roman Villa del Casale. It was totally worth the excursion. And here I give another tip: this amazing place is to be a minimum of two hours, but with the previous lunch in a restaurant -which was not included in the tour-, only enough to be an hour. Therefore, I suggest eating something quick snack or sandwiches in the minibus before arriving at Piazza Armerina, or the moment you arrive at this town, and thus spend more time admiring the mosaic beauties in the Villa Romana del Casale. In short, excellent full-day excursion from Palermo to two of the most historic sites in Sicily and Italy, places to which it was impossible to devote more time along the distances, and all with remarkable guides and a really comfortable minibus (with an excellent and friendly driver, otherwise).
I found this company online. I saw the opinions published and told myself with this one I do the excursion. Alessio, who came from Catania, was very punctual to pick us up at the hotel. It is very nice to hear your indications and the information you are giving, not full of data but if you invite with your proceeding to enjoy the ride. We shared the excursion with a couple of excocesos, we did not speak English and at no time left out any because of the translation. Alessio as we say in Buenos Aires, you are a very polite very professional guy and I hope you have the opportunity to visit us. Genius!!!
