The visit to Water town was the excellent, thanks our terrific tour guide Linda. From our pick up at the hotel to drop off at the end of the tour, Linda was informative and very helpful, knowledgeable and offered great support to our family. The walk through the town was great and tea ceremony was a memorable experience. Highly recommend this tour and Linda.

Awesome experience. We had the chance to experience a boat ride to see the town. Linda our tour guide was fantastic, very helpful and accommodating. We managed to visit the all places we wanted to see. I will book again with them given the chance we go back to Shanghai.
Really worth the private guided tour for basic three reasons. First you can adjust the time-plan to what you like most. Second, as a european tourist you need a lot of explanation and background history in order to understand what you see, and third there is a lot of extra talk to be done with local guide that cannot be done in group. So Sunny Tours that arranges these private tours is a must do in Shanghai!
Excellent organization and coordination with private car and driver. Linda is an outstanding guide! Customized my tour to my liking.
This was a lovely and peaceful day tour wandering around Shanghai and water town. Our guide Sami was wonderful and really helped us explore at a nice pace, and showing us where to get some great street food.
I did the tour on 21 Nov 2025 and my tour guide was Lea. Tour started with picking up write in time and Lea shares with me good info about each attraction and given enough time to explore everything and was really helpful in everything plus she has taken wonderful pics if me. Lea is really a wonderful tour guide and a beautiful human being. Hats off to Lea making my tour an unforgettable journey.
This was a nice tour of Zhujiajiao, as well as a visit to the old town of Shanghai and a brief stroll through the French Concession. Unfortunately, traffic was bad, so we weren't able to do much else, but just the visit to Zhujiajiao made it worth it. Lily was my guide and she was very friendly and informative. I learned a lot about Zhujiajiao, Shanghai, and Chinese culture. Highly recommended!
Annie was simply the best!! She arrived on time to our hotel and we had the most wonderful experience with her. It was our own guide and driver throughout the whole tour! The car was very comfortable and Annie explained everything we needed to know. She asked us what we wanted to do , so we could customize our experience. She even gave us recommendations for the next day and booked an acrobatic show for us. Loved the tour and loved Annie! I if you want a private tour, I highly encourage you to book this one !
The tour guide Sammi was super friendly, easy to talk to and proud to show us her version of the Watertown and Shanghai. The tour felt personalised and tailored to us. It was lovely going to the water town, so peaceful and scenic. Sammi’s recommendations for our lunch were excellent too. We visited the bund and Yu garden thereafter. Definitely recommend this!
We were picked up at our hotel, and our first stop was the stunning Jade Buddha Temple. Next, we went to Zhujiajiao Water Town which was beautiful. Our tour guide, Annie, was enthusiastic, engaging and extremely knowledgeable. Her stories made the sights even more captivating. We learned so much about Chinese history and Shanghai! Our driver was attentive and made sure we comfortable and looked after. We also visited Yuyuan Old Street, Yuyuan Garden and The French Concession. Overall, this was a fantastic tour, with an amazing tour guide, Annie, who made this a memorable and extraordinary experience.
We had an amazing time on our tour of Shanghai! Our guide, Fei Fei, was incredibly kind and demonstrated exceptional professionalism throughout the experience. She shared fascinating anecdotes and valuable insights about the city, which truly enriched our visit. Her passion for Shanghai was evident and made our exploration even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to discover this beautiful city!
We had a great private tour guide Annie. Annie is a local Shanghai resident who speaks excellent English and knows her country very well. We were provided with details of all the sights we visited and there was no rush to move onto other sights. Highly recommend this tour to learn about China.
Sunny Private Tours was very efficient in organizing our tour to Water Town and downtown Shanghai. Communication was excellent. Our tour guide Annie was wonderful. Great English, knowledgeable, informative, topical. We enjoyed her company and loved the tour. Annie organized our day to suit us. She was also knowledgeable about our business interests which was an unexpected surprise. We were able to utilize her knowledge. A great experience. We highly recommend Annie.
Sammi was a great tour guide. Very kind, took care of the details and gave the right dose of information. She was able to “read” clearly our interests. Her command of English and vocalization were easy to understand.
The best tour guide! We had a great day with our guide Fefei that was super professional and attentive to our requests. This tour is a must if you have the time, it was simply great. We had the options to customize after our needs and what we wanted to spend some more or less time at. Great. Guide was amazing good. Top class !
Annie was amazing and very nice. She allows you customize your experience and where you want to go. She spoke great English and answered all our questions. She guided the tour greatly and everything went smoothly. We saw the bund, Shanghai tower, Jade temple, and the Ancient water city. Her knowledge was tremendous and even knows a lot about other countries as well. She also gave other great recommendations and even dropped us off at another destination instead of back to the hotel. Food was great also. I highly recommended Annie!
We had an incredible experience with Feifei as our tour guide in Shanghai. She was punctual, informative, and provided fantastic recommendations. Fei Fei took us to wonderful sites that truly showcased the beauty of Shanghai, and the authentic food spots she selected were simply amazing—no tourist crowds, just delicious local cuisine. We will definitely book with her again on our next trip to Shanghai!
Sunny and Sammi were so helpful and communicative. We had a wonderful time in Zhujiajiao, and it was so interesting to talk to Sammi as she is a Shanghai native. The whole tour was extremely well done and incredible value for what we paid, would definitely recommend to friends!
I travelled with Sunny Journeys to see the water town of Zhujiajiao and had Annie as my guide. The trip was fantastic! It started off with Sunny providing great communication after booking and making sure I got picked up from the correct hotel. I was traveling alone and Sunny made me feel very prepared for the trip. Annie was my guide the day of the tour and she was a fantastic guide, I highly recommend her during your trip to Shanghai. Annie was very knowledgeable and provided a great tour with lots of knowledge. I was very set on bringing home fresh water pearls and Annie made sure she took me to the best spot. Highly recommend Sunny Journeys while you’re in Shanghai!
Had an outstanding experience booking with Sunny travels. She is very prompt with replying and made good suggestions to ensure my tour ran smoothly. My driver and tour guide made me feel very comfortable and looked after. Annie was an amazing tour guide and she went above and beyond. She explained things in detail and gave me a good insight into the Chinese culture. She also answered my many questions. I could not have asked for a better tour guide. She ensured my dietary requirements were met. Thank you for a lovely day.
Fantastic car. Delightful guide lily. Highly recommend the tour. We loved opening the oysters to find many freshwater pearls
We had an excellent private tour with Freya, who speaks perfect English, and the driver Mr. Liu who took us around in a Tesla Model 3. We could request any destination or dining spot, and they brought us to the best places in Shanghai. If you want good companionship and hassle-free tour of Shanghai, look no further. All the best!
Great day tour with Freya. Freya was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was happy to accommodate any ideas of places we wanted to see and had great recommendations.
We had a really interesting day with Freya our guide. It was a shame about the weather but that cannot be helped. This tour gives you a great introduction to the area and its history and even the time spent in the car is interesting as your guide will be happy to answer all your background questions. Dinner in the evening was excellent and all ran very smoothly. The pace of the day is just right and Freya was happy to adapt the tour a little for us. I will also give a huge thank you to Sunny in the office for making sure that everything was organised as it should be. I cannot rate this high enough.
A must do when your are in Shanghai!! I was hesitating to do this tour because I had only 2 days to spend. I am very glad I did took this toir. Our guide Annie gave us an fantastic experience guiding us through Zhujiajiao village and showed us in a very balanced way , meaning not too fast, not too slow showing us some incredible spots. We really enjoyed it and we highly recommend this unforgetable journer through traditional Shanghai. Thank you Annie!
We had a wonderful time on this trip. Our guide Freya was fantastic. She was very knowledgable about all the places we visited. She was friendly and helpful, answered all of our questions and made good suggestions for our other days in Shanghai. The tour does all it says and a bit more. It was really nice to spend the day with someone that enjoys what she does. The driver was also very friendly, fast and always on time. Very nice new tesla.
It was a pleasure to meet our guide Annie. She was very enthusiastic and friendly explaining history in all aspects. We really appreciate her lovely attitude. Will recommend.
We had a great experience booking with Sunny Tours. From booking to the end of our tour Sunny was outstanding and communicated clearly and was very available. Our guide Annie was excellent. She made our first day in Shanghai a pleasant one. She shared her knowledge of the city and major sites with great generosity with a perfect balance of humor and fun facts. We would strongly recommend this tour, operator and guide. A perfect experience !!
Wonderful day trip to experience authentic Chinese culture near Shanghai, the metropolitan city. Definitely recommend to visit the photo store and tryout Chinese traditional dresses. 😄
The Watertown section of this tour was a marvelous adventure and such a pleasant diversion from the bright lights and bustle of downtown Shanghai. Sunny and her driver picked us up at the hotel in a spotless van with plenty of water for the trip (it was a hot day!). After a scenic drive through the suburbs and countryside surrounding Shanghai (during which Sunny gave lots of information about the architecture and history of buildings in the Shanghai area), we arrived at Zhujiajiao - a quiet, beautiful town with numerous canals. Sunny took care of tickets and arrangements, and assisted us with health QR codes and other details we needed for access. We went to some of the shopping areas first, enjoying fun and tasty local fare such as "popcorn ice cream" (made with liguid nitrogen) and various delicious rice wines. Sunny even helped us with a little bartering! We cruised the narrow stone-lined streets and bridges that traversed the canals. Simply beautiful. We then took a gondola-type ride and Sunny added local history and colour to the surroundings. It added a lot to the experience. The Watertown section of the tour took just over 5 hours, including driving time. A great way to spend the first half of our day! The Shanghai City Highlights portion of the tour was the Oriental Pearl Tower (since you can customize your tour with Sunny, this was the only major landmark we had not seen) - an amazing view (and we got some great pics!) Again, Sunny took care of us with top notch service. We can't thank Sunny enough for the care she took in assisting us and her attention to detail. If you need someone for a tour of Shanghai or the surrounding areas, we highly recommend Sunny - she is great!
We had a wonderful tour! It was easy to book and everything was very easy to set up. We were in town for my husbands work conference and only had 1 day without any meetings to see the highlights. Rita was our tour guide and she met us in the lobby of our hotel. We had a wonderful clean car and private driver. The water town was really amazing and Rita did a great job explaining all the delicacies and wares in the market and was willing to help us find souvenirs we were interested in. Next we chose to visit Yuyuan Street and Rita took us to a delicious dumpling and noodle restaurant for lunch. Then we had a tour of Yu Garden which was beautiful. Lastly we went to Jade Buddha Temple, which was truly amazing! I am so glad we had a guide like Rita to help us navigate the city and explain the history behind all the things we were seeing. I highly recommend!
My sister and I stopped in Shanghai before our cruise. We wished we had booked more days in Shanghai but it was too late to make changes. Claire was our guide and managed to show us everything we wanted to see and the Watertown. She then took us directly to our cruise ship. This was perfect since we were jet lagged and never could have accomplished all of this in one day. We really enjoyed Claire who has excellent English speaking skills and was very nice. She took us to a nice restaurant and overall this was one of the highlights of our trip. I was initially a little nervous about making a down payment, but Sunny was super easy to work with and our guide confirmed the night before by phone and met us promptly in the lobby. I encourage anyone to book for the best use of your time. By the way.....she also had a driver, so was able to drop us off in busy spots and jump out with us and then we were promptly picked up and on to the next.
We had an unbelievable guide for this trip, Claire. She was very knowledgeable on the history of China, and she did a fantastic job describing current events in the country. I could not have asked for a better tour of the Shanghai area. I would recommend this to anyone visiting!
We had a perfect visit to Zhujiajiao. A fast drive from Shanghai that avoided the Golden Week traffic. Lily, our guide, is a delight: charming, informative and considerate. She has an excellent command of English and we had wonderful conversations in the course of the tour. The tour was like a leisurely stroll in charming gardens and waterwaysand a great photo opportunity.
Wow, just had the best day with our guide Rita. She took us to the Zhujiaiajiau water town which was very beautiful. We had a relaxing ride in the gondola and we then had the opportunity to buy gifts in the many local shops, including some pearls which we bought at a very reasonable price. We then went to the Jade Buddha Temple which was well worth a visit and Rita was very informative, making this more interesting. It was a calming and spiritual place to be. Finally, we went to the Yu Gardens, walking through the Old Town to get there. Rita and our driver were very flexible and allowed us to change parts of our itinerary during our tour. Thank you Rita for looking after us, we would recommend this tour to fit in the highlights of Shanghai in a day. Namaste
Sunny was a wonderful guide. Her English was excellent and she was very flexible with the tour - what I wanted to see vs what I had already seen. She knows her history well, but also shares with context and interesting stories that make it very memorable.
From being picked up punctually at our hotel, comfortable private transport and absolute gem of a tour guide, Annie, our first day in Shanghai will always have special memories for us. The tour started in Zhuijiajiao water town, walking through narrow streets with many shops selling all kinds of souvenirs and food including beetles etc on skewers. The walk was followed by a short but delightful river boat ride. Then we went back to Shanghai and had lunch in a smart restaurant where we had a typical Chinese meal, sweet and sour pork, beef, vegetables and dumplings all eaten by using chopsticks (we were useless so we quickly asked for cutlery). Following lunch we drove along the riverside area called the Bund, Annie knew that we were going back there the next day so we didn't spend any time here although she did point out places of interest. Next was the Yuyuan Gardens and shopping area, very crowded and as we had been in a typical old house with family antiques and pretty gardens in the water village we decided to give this a miss. Went to the Jade Buddha Temple, lucky enough to see the Buddhist monks go to prayer. The day was jam packed with interesting places, facts and brilliant knowledge from Annie. We couldn't praise her enough. You always have doubts as to what service you are going to get but after our tour we can assure you that these excursions are well organised and well worth the money. Thank you to Sunny tours and a massive thanks to Annie, it was a pleasure to meet you and we will always remember this unforgettable day.
Sunny was a fantastic tour guide and spoke great English and was very knowledgeable. The Zhujiajiao tour allowed us to get a feel for a water town without having to spend the whole day there. This allowed for us to explore the key sights in Shanghai with Sunny, which was much better with a guide. We had a very tight schedule in Shanghai, that was shortened even more by the weather, so this tour helped us fit in everything we wanted to see in and around Shanghai in a short time frame. One side note, many tours offer lunch that is just "ok", but our lunch was at a very nice restaurant with fantastic food.
We had so much fun with our tour guide, Lily! Her English is flawless and her sense of humor right in line with ours! We had a lot of laughs! She is quite knowledge of the areas and was flexible in letting us set the pace. We enjoyed having a private driver and tour guide, which enabled us a lot of flexibility and time for shopping. We had a fabulous trip to the Zhujiajiao and highly recommend Lily and her tours!
We were a party of three with only one day to visit Shanghai after arriving there on a cruise ship at 7am. Sunny Tours arranged to meet us at our hotel at 9am. Our guide Ruby and driver promptly met us at the hotel, and we started our journey to Zhujiajiao Water Town. I had been to Shanghai on business years ago, but the Water Towns are a completely different experience than the big city. We walked up and down the canals of Zhujiajiao, crossing bridges and stopping at small sidewalk shops. We took a private small boat ride around the canals. Ruby explained much of the history and relevance of the town, and also took pictures which she later kindly sent to us. After the Water Town, we went back into Shanghai and Ruby walked us through some wonderful areas where there was shopping and food. We ate lunch at a 100 year old restaurant which served the famous "dumplings." We walked through the old "French Concession" area, and some beautiful gardens. This tour was thorough and broad... it was really wonderful, and Ruby was a magnificent guide! I would very highly recommend this tour!
Yesterday my son and I want on a great private tour of the water town. What made the trip so rewarding was our tour guide Rita. She was incredibly nice and hospitable and her knowledge was incredibly enlightening. I highly recommend anyone visiting Shanghai to use Sunny tours and specifically having Rita as your guide. We will definitely engage her again on our next trip to Shanghai. .
This was a personalised tour for a family of 4 with our own guide & vehicle. The guide spoke excellent English, was very informative about the cultural aspects of our destination & took excellent care of my family (that included 2 young kids). Would highly recommend this tour operator.
Nothing to said but 2 thumbs up!! Steve is professional, know the local knowledge great talker, weldone Steve keep, keep the great works!! Also credit to sunny being proffesional by following up with me during begining of the tour until finished.
We cannot say enough good things about our experience! We truly had the best time, and we highly recommend a tour with Sunny Tours Shanghai. As noted, we selected a private tour, and we visited Zhujiajiao Water Town, the Jade Buddha Temple, Old Town and the Yu Garden. What a perfect day! Rita was our guide, and she was fabulous - extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Rita had an amazing grasp of history and culture; we learned so much from her! For those of you who are interested in having a once-in-a-lifetime experience, this is the tour for you! The sites we visited were simply amazing. In terms of the booking process, it was extremely easy! We corresponded with Sunny via email, and she arranged the tour with Rita for us. Then all we had to do was show up in the lobby of our hotel! Couldn't have been easier.
My tour guide, Chris, was extremely personable, knowledgable, flexible, and punctual. The water village was stunning. As a westerner, it was unlike anything I had experienced before. It was slightly rainy outside, which ended up being a good thing as the water village was quite empty and we didn't have to battle crowds. After the water village, Chris asked me what I had already seen in Shanghai and made some suggestions about what we might do with the remainder of our tour. I certainly appreciated the flexibility of the tour. We ended up at the Yu Yuan Gardens, followed by the Museum of Shanghai. Both stops were amazing! Overall, if I could give this tour more than 5 stars, I would. It was extremely smooth from start to finish and I ended the tour with a little more knowledge and a lot more culture.
We contacted Sunny by e mail a few days before we arrived in Shanghai and she was very prompt and attentive which gives you confidence to start with . We had been recommended by a friend who visited Shanghai a few weeks ago . We were guided by Rita who spoke excellent English and had a great knowledge of both tour attractions and general knowledge . We arrived on a flight from New Zealand at 7am and after the shambolic delays at immigration( different review), went straight to hotel and were collected by Rita to start the tour at 10.30 - perfect timing . We went to the Zhujiajiao Watertown which took an hour at that time of day and was worth the time . Quaint little area with lots of street food and small shops . It was worth having the guide as she helped us understand so much in a short space of time . It’s worth doing a short boat trip ( 80 yuan) to see the buildings from the water . After a couple of hours we were back in the private and comfortable car and heading back to the city . We went to the Bund walkway which is the tourist must do . Then to Old Shanghai which was fun . Having the car collecting you promptly after each quick visit was worth gold ! We mentioned we loved Shanghai dumplings ( fried not just steamed) and Rita took us to her favourite and one of the city’s best . Michelin starred and we had a filling lunch for 3 for 40 yuan . Beat that ! After lunch a quick trip to French concession which was interesting again . Then we were dropped back at the hotel- happy and more knowledgeable and replete with dumpling goodness . We worth the cost to have a great day in an often challenging city for first time and short stay visitors .
We had 8 people total on a private van, 7 seniors and one young female. All had good time on this tour, flexible itinerary and the guide Annie is excellent. Sunny is a very good person to communicate with.
THE TOUR WAS FANTASTIC!!!!,We had the best guide we could hope for!! We saw so much within this one day. All the credits go to Clair . She is extremely talented tour guide and has very pleasant personality. Made our tour unforgettable! Everything was planned perfectly, the car was very comfortable, and the choice of a restaurant was great. If we’ll be back to Shanghai we would definitely book another tour with Clair. Also will recommend her to the friends
We had only one full day in Shanghai and luckily we found Sunny to really give us a great feel for the city and ancient history of the area. We had contacted one other tour company which, in hindsight, proposed an entirely unrealistic itinerary based time and logistics. Sunny fortunately is an expert on the area and getting around. We were so lucky to find her. She and the driver were right on time in the morning and we were on our way. She gave us history, statistics, personal insights, she was a wealth of information. She answered any and all questions we had. Her English was excellent by the way as we speak no Chinese whatsoever. The water town was a treat with canals, photo ops, boat ride, a true Venice of the East. Lots of shopping opportunities and "street food" type of vendors if that is of interest to you. Back in city, we saw all the requisite "sites" that are recommended but having Sunny there provided so much more to the experience. She was able to share additional stories that made the places come to life. She was so flexible, if there was something additional that you wanted to take in, you only had to ask. We ended the day on the Bund. We knew we were going to spend a few hours the next morning exploring on our own and she took the time to go with us to the water, show us what would be good to take in the next day, and more importantly what to avoid so we would not be wasting our time! We loved Shanghai as a city, very vibrant, clean and organized and would love to return. We will be looking up Sunny to take us to more sights when we do. Thank you Sunny!!
Was promptly picked up by Sunny at Hotel and went to Water Town. Enjoyed the boat ride there with some nice photo opportunities. Then returned to Shanghai where Sunny custom arranged a tour of local sights that I was able to pick out. Very accommodating. Sunny speaks good English and was driven around in a nice car. It included a nice Lunch with great food in Shanghai. Highly recommend. It’s worth it to enjoy a nice day with an experienced guide.
