Shanghai: Southern Great Wall Day Trip By Bullet Train

We had the best tour guide. Her name was Summer and she showed us the best time. She had Jason pick us up from our hotel and straight to her as she was waiting at train station. She spoke excellent English. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. We learned a lot and had a great time with her. Highly recommend this tour but mainly her. Great experience! A fun and informative trip, lead by a wonderful guide, Summer. She was incredibly friendly, speaks great English, and took time to answer any questions we had. I booked this with my 78 year old father and Summer was very considerate in keeping the pace reasonable for both of us. The portion of the Great Wall we saw was amazing, especially when situated next to both modern and historic architecture. Also saw beautiful views of the East lake and gardens. Definitely worth the trip!

We had a great time with Judy! The whole day was well organised and full of activities, but also with some stops to recharge. Judy told as loads of information about the history of all the places we visited. Everything looks just like in the pictures so I wasn't disappointed. The Wall, lake, old street l, everything is very impressive.

This is not a trip to the Great Wall near Beijing, but nevertheless the trip is still worthwhile to see the Southern Wall

Travel to and from Linhei was seamless. Jordan was a very knowledgeable host and told interesting stories about the Southern Great Wall. He and Greta were kind and thoughtful and accommodating. They were also fun to be with. The meal was delicious and the walk through East Lake Park was restful and enjoyable. I would highly recommend recommend this trip!

It was a fantastic experience. The tour had a driver pick us up at our hotel in Suzhou, we then boarded the train and our tour guide, Jordan, joined us in Shanghai. Once we got to our final destination, Jordan shared the history about the Great South Wall. When then walked down ancient city streets and had lunch at a place called the Secret Garden and it was wonderful. When then went to East Lake and walked around for a bit. When then took the train back and our driver was waiting for us to take us back to the hotel. If you can’t get to the Great Wall in Beijing, this is a must see tour. A lot of the Great Wall up North was modeled after the Great South Wall.

Our tour guide Sumner did an exceptional job. From the moment she met up with us, she made us feel welcomed, comfortable and excited for our tour. Her knowledge of the tour was impeccable. She also took us to a very memorable place for lunch and the food was very delicious! I highly recommend Summer to anyone looking for an amazing experience..

Great short day trip to see parts of China if you’re short on time. Judy was great and facilitated everything so all we had to do was enjoy the tour. Everything flowed well despite the horrible heat. She let us go at our own pace and kept us hydrated and fed!

This review is exclusively for the incredible Ms.Judy! She picked me up from my hotel, and we went to the train station. The train station can be confusing but she handled any of the confusion before I could form a question! Judy made sure had breakfast and properly hydrated, when we got to Linhai she had an incredible knowledge of history and culture. She also took the best pictures, and we stopped for a delicious lunch. When we did tackle the southern wall she was very encouraging and had the best information. She also was well prepared for any situation. Amazing experience!

My guide was Summer and from start to finish she was amazing. Not only did she explain in detail the various highlights but shared experiences, was very friendly and engaging and also arranged a drop off at the end to suit my plans. An early start, collected and dropped off at train station and met by Summer. Then onto the bullet train to Linhai, which was smooth & fast and we loved the journey. We spent the day with summer visiting the ancient city and then to the wall. A very warm beautiful day for a walk along the wall, to see the views and with lots of stories from Summer. The walks were perfect and lunch was very tasty. A bit of shopping and walk through the ancient town to see beautiful pagodas and then onto the lake before we headed back to the station. A full day which was made all the better by Summer! Highly recommend the tour. A very long day but worth it!

I travelled with Bingo travel & guide Judy. Pickup & bullet train ride went well. Started with wander at East Lake then on Ziyang Old street for lunch. After wandering around I again enquired when we would walk on the wall as I had made it clear that was my main focus for day. Eventually started but Judy was not motivated & in fact at one stage sat in shelter while I continued. On train home Judy didn’t show when we arrived at the station I was sure we should get off at. I found another English speaking guide who confirmed this & I was looking at then having to find my own way back to hotel . Luckily same guide went & found her in another carriage. No apology & even asked me to give her a 5 star rating. A disappointing tour for me . I did email company when I returned home but didn’t even get an acknowledgement of this.

Emma was an incredible tour guide! She was personable, timely, courteous, knowledgeable, and genuinely took each of us and our individual needs into consideration throughout the entire day. Her advice regarding the different entrance options for the Southern Great Wall was especially helpful. She carefully explained what each option involved, including the additional 200–300 steps after the Warrior/Hero’s Slope to reach the top, which allowed us to make an informed decision about the route that was right for us. Our entire day was planned perfectly. After coming down from the Great Wall in the heat, Emma even treated us to ice cream before lunch so we could cool down — such a thoughtful and very welcome surprise! Lunch itself was absolutely amazing. The entire tour was an incredible experience for all three of us. On a personal level, I have difficulty walking, and climbing the Great Wall was a significant challenge for me. With Emma’s guidance, patience, and encouragement, I made it! That is an experience I will never forget. All three of us would wholeheartedly recommend Emma. Her attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and ability to make the day enjoyable for each of us made this an unforgettable experience in China. We could not have asked for a better guide!

Having a personal tour was a wonderful way to see the Southern Great Wall, a bucket list opportunity that was enhanced by our enthusiastic, knowledgeable and efficient guide Emma who was able to navigate her way around in a way we would have been unable to do ourselves. Southern Great Wall was a great alternative to the 'northern' Great Wall since we were staying in Shanghai. Our tour guide Jordan prepared the itinerary nicely for us, and made sure of proper transportation. He provided the unique history behind the Southern GW as we walked, then led us through the streets of the local town of Linhai with small shops and markets, before a nice lunch at a tucked away restaurant. We completed the tour through East Lake, which was near the head of the SGW. We enjoyed the experience from beginning to end!

We had a fantastic experience on our Southern Great Wall tour from pickup to drop-off! The luxury van accommodations were very comfortable, and the train rides were easy and well organized, although it is a long day of travel. Our guide, Summer, was wonderful. She was extremely accommodating, kind, smart, and very knowledgeable about the history of the area. She shared a lot of interesting information throughout the day and made the entire experience easy and enjoyable. The Southern Great Wall and the old town were even more impressive than we expected and absolutely worth the trip. If you have a full day available and want to experience something unique, we highly recommend this tour. Great guide, great scenery, and a great trip overall

EMMA was great she is amazing and very knowledgeable. Very hard working and worked around our schedule. A massive plus for us was that she connected with our children very easily and child friendly. My daughter and son were very comfortable with her. Emma answered all of our questions about the wall, city, and past. This is a must do experience and would recommend booking and requesting emma. The vehicles used were great and luxurious with lots of water too.

It’s a long day but first class experience. The guide was super accommodating. I was here for business and booked this on my one free day. Nice to get out of the city and see more sights.

Our guide Gerry was excellent very organised and even when transport changes had to be made it was seemless. Excellent knowledge and so friendly and kind. We really enjoyed the whole day and it was well worth it.

The trip was brilliant and well rounded. Emma was a wonderful guide. The food chosen for lunch was delicious, it was great to have various options for the walk, lovely sights and interesting history and information provided. I would absolutely recommend, it was a well organised and smooth day.

A very enjoyable tour. The bullet train was an experience and Linhai with its Great Southern Wall beautifully picturesque. The East Lake was serene and well worth the visit. Our guide, Jordan was not only helpful, but very knowledgeable and we enjoyed his discussions around culture and language - we learnt so much. Plus the Waiting Cafe had great food 😋 Can recommend!

We went on the Great Wall trip yesterday and what a fantastic day we had. Our guide, Judy, picked us up from the hotel as planned and we travelled to Linhai on the bullet train. From Linhai we were taken to the East Lake property where Judy explained the fascinating history. We had lunch at a local restaurant before visiting a temple and the Great Wall itself. At each point Judy told us all the stories and history about the places. Judy was a great guide, it was a pleasure to spend the day with her. We were particularly impressed that, as older people, Judy adapted the tour to take that into account without us missing any of the experiences. We highly recommend this tour, well worth the cost and ask for Judy , she was great…

As a first visit to China this was a total immersion into the country the culture and its people. A seamlessly organised trip to see the Great Wall via Bullet train. Our guide Jerry was excellent from pickup to finish, making this an unforgettable day. Great tour, great guide - a must if you can.

This was an exceptional trip led by an exceptional tour guide. The Southern Great Wall is spectacular, and Jerry made it even better by adjusting the trip for us on the day. Transport was superb, food was excellent, and Jerry’s knowledge made sure we learnt a lot and were very entertained. We had high expectations, and they were exceeded!

We visited the Southern Great Wall, we were staying at the Bund in Shanghai and was greeted at our hotel by our tour guide Emma, who came across extremely friendly. We were driven to the Shanghai train station with Emma and travelled by bullet train to Linhai where we had a driver take us into town for the tour. Emma had great knowledge of the wall and the surrounding area, after walking along the wall we headed for lunch. Emma picked a very good place to eat, the food was amazing. After lunch we walked around and visited some local shops. We had a fabulous day, enjoyed Emma’s company, friendliness and knowledge. Thanks Emma

A wonderful experience for discovering new areas and visiting a historic site. Emma was an excellent guide who never left our side, not even for a minute.

It is extremely important to be on time. The train waits for no one. Hydrate the night before, bring lots of water. Lots of steps, so difficult, but I am a 71 year old woman, and my son is a double lung transplant and we made it. Miao, our guide was excellent and did not push the pace.

Because we had a guide so to a ourselves, we were able tailor the trip to our level of fitness. Our guide, Miao, was very attentive and informative. Everytime we went on to the next activity, a car was waiting for us. She is a very good guide and we would happily recommend her to others.

Excellent experience, very well communicated transfers. Taken care of every step of the way. Miao was an excellent guide very knowledgeable and took good care of us, providing water and umbrellas (it was 38c!) . Also had the best food we have had on our trip to China as part of the trip! We had a great time during our tour to the Southern Great Wall. The experience was amazing and every detail was very well coordinated. Emma (our tour guide) was very kind and helpful. She communicated days in advance the details of the itinerary. She took us to have the most delicious Chinese food we tried during our trip. She was the best ! The transportation was also excellent, private, clean, punctual and everybody very very nice … we had an amazing experience!

Emma our tour guide was right on time and incredibly friendly and accommodating. She asked us our preferences the day before ans made aure the experience was tailored just for us. We had an amazing experience on the Southern Great Wall Day Trip by Bullet Train. The service was excellent from the very beginning. They even arranged to pick us up from our hotel, even though it was outside their usual pickup area. Once we arrived at the subway station, we met our tour guide, Summer, who made the entire trip smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free. She was absolutely fantastic. Even though we visited on an extremely hot day, she kept a big smile on her face the whole time, answered every question we had, and made sure everyone was comfortable. Because of the heat, we spent a bit longer hiking on the wall than originally planned, but she adjusted the schedule without any issues. Everything was organised in advance, so entering the Great Wall was quick and effortless. Summer had already taken care of all the tickets and arrangements, which meant we didn't have to wait in any lines. The area was also pleasantly uncrowded, making the experience even more enjoyable. After our walk on the Great Wall, we had lunch at a wonderful Chinese restaurant. Summer helped us order traditional local dishes, which made the experience even more authentic and memorable. On the way back, our bullet train was delayed, so the journey took longer than expected. Despite that, Summer remained cheerful, professional, and enthusiastic until the very end. Although the tour was a bit pricey for us because we were a group of five people, we truly believe it was worth the money. The organisation, convenience, and excellent service we received made the experience very valuable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Shanghai. It was incredibly well organised, and thanks to Summer, it became one of the highlights of our trip. It was absolutely worth it!

Our experience was amazing, we learnt so much about the history behind the great wall and had an amazing day all around. With the help of our awesome tour guide, Miao, who made the experience much more interesting, fun and easier to truly understand all the history and facts behind the great wall of china. She made sure we stayed hydrated, safe, and had fun the whole way!

We had a fantastic fun day tour to the Southern Great Wall and East Lakes from Shanghai on the bullet train with Emma our tour guide, a wonderfully knowledgeable, friendly and thoughtful young lady who was an absolute joy to trek along the wall with, Emma talked us through what we could expect from the day,helped us transition through the train station, once at the wall we set off and Emma gave a wonderful history lesson about the wall, the army that protected it, explained the temple with in the wall and about the Seeker deer, all In all we totally enjoyed our day tour with Emma and thoroughly recommend it is a must do experience. Thank you Emma for your encouragement helping us navigate all the steps and being patient when we were slow, appreciated, keep smiling and take care 😁

We had a very informative and organized tour. Judy was our tour guide and she was very professional. The only downside was that it was extremely hot (38°C), sunny and humid so we highly recommend having a hat, sunscreen, portable fan and cooling towel available. If you're not in decent shape, this tour is not for you.

Emma was a great guide. The tour started with no stress and a nice pick up vehicle. Everything was very well organized. I travel a lot independently and I’m so happy we chose this tour with an English speaking guide. I think it would have been pretty stressful otherwise. Despite the intense heat, we really enjoyed this tour. I’d caution climbing in the summer heat though! The restaurant we went to for lunch was wonderful with an abundance of food. The hospitality there was great. I’d absolutely recommend going on this tour!

Judy was our fabulous guide! Everything was seamless from pick to drop off. It was nice not having to plan the day. We decided to do this tour on the hottest day of the summer. Today we didn't just walk the Great Wall of China-we negotiated with every single step. Somewhere around stair number 3,000 (jk) I'm pretty sure the Wall started climbing us. Worth it? Absolutely. Sweaty? Beyond belief. Hydrated? Questionable. Regrets? None. The views were incredible, the history was unforgettable, and we earned every single one of these photos. If anyone needs me, l'll be recovering in the nearest air conditioning...preferably with an ice cream the size of the Great Wall. #GreatWallOfChina #ChinaAdventures #TravelWithTeens

Amazing experience getting the chance to see the southern wall without too much of a crowd. Our guide Judy took us to all the different gates and gave us time to explore everything. Be prepared for lots of stairs though!
