Tom, our tour guide was a great tour guide. He is very friendly and knowledgeable. This was one of the best tours that I have taken in a long time. The tour covered: the Yu Garden, the Bund, the financial district in Pudong and the Xintiandi district in the French concession. It was an excellent introduction to Shanghai from the Ming Dynasty period (Yu Garden) to the modern 21st century Pudong. I would recommend this tour and Tom for anyone interested in Shanghai.

Meet your knowledgeable guide at your hotel lobby. Then drive to the Bund, Shanghai’s picturesque waterfront, well known as the International Architecture Exhibition for its spectacular soaring skyline. From here, enjoy sweeping views of both sides of the Huangpu River.
Continue to visit the intricately designed Yu Yuan Garden and the ancient Shanghai Old Street. Yu Garden is a classical Jiangnan-style private garden dating back to the Ming Dynasty. You will admire delicate rockeries, winding corridors, elegant ponds, exquisite pavilions, and intricate traditional carvings throughout the scenic area. Adjacent to it lies lively Yuyuan Bazaar with ancient-style buildings, various local snacks, traditional handicraft shops and picturesque archways. It is a perfect spot to appreciate ancient Chinese gardening art, experience authentic Shanghai folk culture, and take plenty of stunning cultural photos. Afterward, take a break in a local Chinese tea house where you can experience the Chinese tea ceremony and try local loose tea.
Followed by the Pudong Business and Financial District, where you can see all the main skyscrapers of the city, such as Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Jinmao Tower. If you book the full-day tour, you will visit the observation deck of the Shanghai Tower. From there, you can overlook the entire city and enjoy panoramic views of both sides of the Huangpu River. The admission ticket is at your own expense.
Followed you drive guide and step into the former French Concession Xintiandi, which features renovated traditional Shikumen stone-gate houses blended with trendy modern commercial spaces, full of artistic atmosphere and great photo spots. You may wander distinctive alleys, boutique stores, and stylish cafes. The Half-day tour will end here. You can stay here for lunch or go back to your hotel. For guests on our full-day tour, this is an ideal lunch stop with a wide selection of authentic local Chinese and Western-style restaurants. You can enjoy genuine Shanghainese and classic Chinese cuisine here before continuing your city exploration.
After lunch, you will visit the Jade Buddha Temple. Located in downtown Shanghai, Jade Buddha Temple is a well-known Buddhist sanctuary built in the early 20th century. On this stop, you will admire traditional Chinese temple architecture with yellow walls and upturned eaves. Its highlights include a famous seated jade Buddha carved from a whole piece of jade and a reclining jade Buddha statue. You can smell sandalwood incense, appreciate solemn Buddhist halls and ancient religious relics, enjoying a peaceful break from the busy city while learning about local Buddhist culture.
People’s Square is the geographic center of Shanghai, surrounded by eye-catching landmark buildings perfect for photography. You can snap photos of the uniquely shaped Shanghai Museum, elegant Shanghai Grand Theatre, and stylish Urban Planning Exhibition Center. Next to the square is People’s Park, a peaceful green space for walking. Its most famous highlight is the weekend matchmaking corner, where parents post information to seek partners for their children. It presents a distinctive local folk custom, allowing you to experience genuine daily Shanghai life alongside splendid architectural views.
As Shanghai’s most famous commercial pedestrian street, Nanjing Road stretches from People’s Square to the Bund, lined with century-old department stores, trendy brand boutiques, dazzling neon signs and classic historic buildings. You can wander bustling walkways, admire unique colonial-style facades ideal for photos, taste local snacks and shop for souvenirs. Walking eastward leads straight to the Huangpu River waterfront, offering convenient access to spectacular Bund river views that blend rich history, lively commerce, and iconic urban scenery.

Tom was the best you could ask for. Very genuine and cared about our day. He personalized it for us and we would book it again in a heartbeat.
Tom was very knowledgeable. We totally enjoyed the visit to the Yu Garden. And it was good that he drove us from spot to spot so that we could escape the heat. I highly recommend this tour.
Tom is super great- flexible to my personality adjusted guiding, he tought me about the history, culture, way people are living, believes and Chinese budism while visiting temples, interesting sites and topics I would not be able to find in a classic tourist tour. He even found my mobile phone I lost and wait for me 1 h while I was shopping pearls and silk. All with smile and good mood. Natalija Stošicki, Slovenia, Europe
This was an excellent tour from start to finish. My mom and I wanted to not only see the Yu Garden and French Concession, but understand the history. Combined with the Bund and Pudong, our tour guide Tom helped paint a picture of Shanghai old and new. The Yu Garden was so impressive, but Tom explaining the various details and symbolism brought the experience to a whole new level. We strolled along the Bund, and saw a part of Pudong as well. The tour ended in the French Concession, which was a perfect way to end the morning. After walking through the various streets of the French Concession my mom and I bid farewell to Tom and had a delicious lunch. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone. Tom was fantastic, the car we rode in was great, and we made excellent time. If you want to see the highlights of Shanghai this is a great way to do it!
Vicky has been a fantastic guide, knowledgeable and accommodating. The Yu Garden, it’s market and the tea ceremony are a must do in Shanghai!
Thomas was our guide and he was excellent. The historical information he provided in Yu Garden made for an incredible cultural experience.
My private guide was incredibly informative and I had a wonderful afternoon learning about this beautiful city, its culture and its people. I would highly recommend this experience.
Lovely afternoon with Alyssa; being shown around Yu garden, the Bund and French concession. Very friendly and informative guide. Would thoroughly recommend if you’re short on time but wish to explore this beautiful city.
I'm glad that i had a positive experience with Tom as my guide in Shanghai. Tom was well-versed in the city's history, culture, and points of interest, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of Shanghai's rich heritage. Furthermore, a friendly guide like Tom can create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making you feel comfortable and at ease throughout your tour. In summary, thank you very much for the wonderful time and would love to have another experience guided by Tom. Best regards
A fabulous tour of Shanghai. Our tour guide Alice was simply the best! She had so much knowledge and background information about Shanghai and all the sites we’ve visited. Plus, she was the friendliest and most helpful person we met here. I am so glad we went on this tour for our first visit in Shanghai.
The tourist guide Tom was good with his description and explanation. He was quite knowledgeable.Fluent in English.
Had a wonderful experience during the half-day tour with Tom! He thoughtfully planned the route so that we experienced each attraction with minimal distraction / crowds. He was able to answer all sorts of cultural and historical questions with a great sense of pride and humor. Would certainly recommend this tour for hitting all the major sites while adding color and context you wouldn't get in seeing them alone.
I can't say enough great things about this tour. My colleagues and I spent a week in China for work and we had a few hours available before our flights home. We wanted to see what Shanghai was about after spending most of our time in an office working. In just four short hours Tom showed us some amazing sites and shared historical and cultural facts that we never would have learned on our own. I feel like he packaged over a day of sight seeing in this short amount of time without any feeling of being rushed. Tom was incredibly nice and very knowledgeable. If you choose this tour, you will be very impressed. I know we were!
This was our first trip to Shanghai with 2 teenage boys. Tom was prompt, excellent English and his depth of knowledge about events and the history of sites we visited, impressive and not boring according to my boys. Would definitely use again. We visited the Yu garden, a tea shop, the French, English and American concessions- brilliant explanations of the history and differences between each. He dropped us off at a soup bun shop and across the road was an equally delicious chive and scallion pancake shop. ( pictures below). Thank you!!
Tom drove my friend and I around Shanghai for 4 hours. He was on time, polite, knowledgeable, and his English is excellent. For two non mandarin speaking Americans this was crucial. Tom took us to the gardens and explained the history and cultural importance of the location. We then toured the rest of the city and that included a tea tasting session. We learned all about the different types of Chinese tea and the significance of all of them. Finally we finished our tour viewing many of the skyscrapers that makeup the huge Shanghai skyline. Tom dropped us off at our lunch destination at the end of the tour. I highly recommend his services for any English speaking tourists!!
Our guide, Jaime was excellent and open to doing what we were most interested in such as a tea ceremony and tasting local food!
Tom was an excellent private tour guide. He arrived on time and provided us with a wealth of information about Shanghai and how the Shanghai Village started out as a small fishing village into what it is today. He gave us a clear understanding about how the French, British & American Concessions were established there also. Tom also answered the numerous questions my husband, son & I each had for him. He answered our questions about Hong Kong, the economics of Shanghai, the real estate, etc. about Shanghai, and so much more. We would highly recommend this half day tour to anyone interested in learning about this city of Shanghai. I have been on tours of Shanghai in the past but Tom's tour is fabulous and the best I had taken.
An excellent tour with a very experienced and knowledgeable tour guide. Tom met us in our hotel lobby and we started the tour in the old Chinese section of the city. Tom took us to the Chinese section before it became too crowded and explained the history of Shanghai as we walked around. We experienced a Chinese Tea Ceremony which was a highlight, and then learned about the Tao religion in the Tao Temple. Our second stop was the beautiful French Concession followed by the Bund. Tom was able to answer all of our questions and recommended places to eat. I thoroughly recommend this tour.
Hello - would highly recommend taking the tour with Tom if you have limited time (business). He is very friendly, eloquent and explains and points out pertinent details about all the sights you are seeing. He also picks you up and drops you off for convenience. His English is excellent so expect very fluid conversation. I was very happy with the outcome.
Tom met us at our hotel and toured my husband and two teenagers around Shanghai for a private tour. We booked the half day tour which was perfect. I was surprised how much Tom was able to fit in and the tour was the perfect introduction to Shanghai. We loved the Yu garden and tea tasting. A word of warning - after our tea tasting we were encouraged to buy some tea, which seemed like a great idea since we had so enjoyed learning about the various types of tea. We should have been more careful to check the prices! $400 for 4 packages of tea! Wouldn't have spent that at Harrods with a tea service included. Other than that, we really enjoyed the tour.
Worth doing a Shanghai city tour to get grounded as to what’s what. Our tour guide was terrific - informed and really helped shape her comments and the whole experience to our interests. She also shared a lot of great places to eat and visit - kept us directed to good, non-touristy places.
We had a fabulous trip with Tom. He spoke excellent English and told us lots of interesting facts about Shanghai. We had a little problem during the trip and he sorted it out of us with great help. When we return we will use Tom again.
We had Tom Zhang as our guide and he was so friendly, knowledgeable and kept us adults, teens and children all interested and secure. Would definitely do another tour with him. Unfortunately we made a mistake of going to a tea shop and bought tea without understand the full price and had to return them. Luckily Tom talked with them and organised our refund so he is very reliable and helpful. Highly recommend his tour for all ages.
Judy ( Tour Guide ) and Joe ( Driver ) was outstanding. Meet us at Baoshan Cruise Ship Port on time with a big smile and made us feel welcomed. Frist stop was the Bund, then Yu Gardens, The French Concession and final stop to Pudong Air Port. We did not have a lot of time in Shanghi, China so this was the perfect Half-Day Tour for our party ( 6 people ). Highly recommend Shanghi Tom's Tour Great Service!!! Thank You, Judy.
We recently completed a half day tour of Shanghai with Tom. Visiting with a friend & 2 children Tom made the tour extremely enjoyable!! He was very accommodating & knowledgeable about Shanghai & it’s history. We very much enjoyed this tour & would highly recommend.
Tom did a great job of showing us the highlights of Shanghai as well as a tea ceremony. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer all our questions about the people and their culture. We would recommend him highly.
Tom was an excellent tour guide - knowledgeable about history and the modern development of Shanghai, skilled at driving on busy streets, and enjoyable to talk with. The pace of the half day tour felt just right - plenty of walking around the garden, market, etc. and also a relaxing private tea tasting with a tea expert. Tom was also flexible and informative, ensuring that we got where we needed to be next on time and with helpful directions. I highly recommend his tour company!
Tom arrived at our hotel promptly and called to let us know he was waiting in front of our hotel. His car was very clean and had waters available at each seat. Tom spoke very good English so communicating was not an issue. We chose the half day tour to see the Yu Garden, French Concession, The Bund, and the tallest buildings in Pudong. He shared a lot of great cultural information and was patient for our need to take photos and purchase a flute from a vendor. I would highly recommend his services. We hope to return and would book him again.
Mark, our tour guide, gave us an excellent tour that allowed us to fill in the gaps on three places--the Shanghai Museum, the French Concession, and the Oriental Pearl Tower--that we had skipped over in a previous tour. Mark was fluent in English, knowledgeable, articulate, accommodating, and personable. He was at his best at the Museum where he demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of the pieces on display and when he shared stories about his hometown. We would highly recommend taking this private, customized tour.
This tour is a great way to see some of the highlights of the city if you only have a few hours. Tom, our tour guide, spoke very good English and was extremely knowledgeable. He was friendly and personable as well. I highly recommend booking a tour with Tom!
This was our first tour taken on an extended tour of Europe and Scandinavia. I'm writing this review after returning home 7 months later. We took many tours throughout our 7mth trip but Tom's was the best. We saw and heard much of the history of Shanghai and experienced first hand the exceptional temples and landmarks. Tom was a delight to talk to, ask questions of and showed a deep love of his city. Ask for Tom if you want the best the world has to offer!
We were in Shanghai in November, and arranged a tour with Tom. The day before we were take the tour Tom sent a message telling us that he would meet us in the lobby of the hotel, and he was waiting for us right on time the next day. Tom then took us on a really excellent half day tour of Shanghai. He was very knowledgeable about all aspects of Shanghai, not just about the areas we visited. Tom was a great tour guide, and if I returned to Shanghai I would certainly try one of the other tours that he offers. All in all highly recommended.
We had Tom for our session today and it was truly a very educative trip for our children and such a very comfortable journey for us all. Tom had been a great guide so really thanking him for that. Recommending you to take this tour to have a better insight of the city then you can continue on at your own space.
Tom Zhang picked us up in a very nice van at the Cruise Terminal. He was waiting for us with a sign. We loaded our luggage in the van and went to the Yu Garden in Shanghai. Tom explained the History of the Yu Garden. Next we saw the Bund. Walked around the French Concession and felt like we were in Europe with the sidewalk cafes and nice shops. Saw the new area of Pudong. The most impressive building was the Pearl TV Tower with three balls that look like pearls. Tom explained that the whole area of Pudong is new. Tom is a great driver/guide.Carol and Pat Clayton
My family and I visited Shanghai for a weekend and wanted to hit the highlights. Our guide was fabulous. Highly recommend.
We had a 24 hour layover in Shanghai and wanted to see as much as possible. We booked this tour hoping to catch a glimpse of some highlights and learn a little about Shanghai and it’s history. We could not have asked for a better experience than the one we had with Tom. On the morning of our tour Tom was punctual and waiting for us outside the door of our hotel. He was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. The tour covered everything and Tom was willing to take as much time at each place as we wanted. The garden was beautiful and the tea tasting was a unique experience. At the end of the tour Tom recommended a few restaurants for us to try before heading back out to the airport. I highly recommend this tour and Tom.
Myself and two colleagues had a few hours available to sight see in Shanghai. Tom picked us up in our hotel and explained what we were going to do. He was extremely knowledgeable about the city, history, culture, and great places to eat! We saw some beautiful gardens, explored the concession areas, took great pics and the Bund and got to see the skyscrapers up close. He was very accommodating and courteous. We were all very jet lagged, but he made sure we had fun and saw as much as we could in our 4 hours. I'd highly recommend him and would take another tour with him again!

My guide Tom Zhang proved to be an excellent guide. With fluent English and a great knowledge it was a most enjoyable trip.

A great way to get a feel of Shanghai with limited time. The highlight was the authentic tea tasting ceremony. Frank, our guide spoke fluent English & gave us a lot of valuable information & history of Shanghai. We were transported around in a very comfortable vehicle by a very good driver. Would highly recommend this tour.
We had a wonderful half day tour of Shanghai. Our guide David was excellent. We were picked up promptly at our Hotel. David spoke fluent English, he was very knowledgeable and told us many interesting facts about Shanghai and its history. It was a wonderful introduction to China for us. As we were leaving on a cruise that afternoon, David and his driver dropped us off at the Port. Great service and terrific tour for anyone who doesn't have much time in Shanghai. Also, a great alternative to just getting a transfer from your Hotel to the Cruise Port.
We are six (family and friends) visiting Shanghai, and we signed up to a guided half day tour with Shanghai Driver Guide to see Private Yu Garden, The Bund, French Concession and Pudong. Our guide - Tom - was a super guide, who explained everything in a very interesting and easy understandable english. The Tour is highly recommended if you are not familiar with Shanghai, and get Tom as your guide.

Tom was a terrific guide, friendly and knowledgeable. The tour covered some of the highlights in Shanghai and was very good
considering our time constraints. We've always been very pleased with every Viator tour we have taken.

Tom was great and made everything possible to be part of memorable moments. Highly recommended. He knows so much about where to go in the future. Definitely need to get with Tom

Tom was excellent, informative and enjoyable. It was a great tour, I highly recommend Tom.

If you only have a half day before boarding a ship, I recommend this one. We saw so much and experienced the top tourist attractions of Shanghai in four hours. We wandered the old Shanghai Pearl Village and beautiful Yu Gardens, had an informative tea-sampling lesson, walked the French Concession, the Bund and riverside. Driving the through the tunnel we also drove around the financial district with its lovely modern architecture. Tom was very well-spoken and gave us much insight into the life of Shanghai.
The vehicle was clean, Tom was an excellent driver, arrived early at the hotel and we started our day right away. For an extra 30.00 arranged ahead of time, we were taken right to the cruise terminal after our tour of Shanghai. So easy and convenient.

No visit to Shanghai can be complete without a visit to the garden. Our visit coincided with the Spring festival and many thousands of locals visited the area. the crowds were huge, but moved extremely well and enjoyed the beautiful spring day. After going through the festival area we visited the actual garden and wondered at how it has survived in the rapidly changing city. the area around the garden has many restaurants and gifts shops, and still has a lot of the old architecture which is quickly being lost
Our guide Tom was very prompt and was waiting for us in our hotel lobby as we arranged. He brought a clean spacious van, with a bottle of water for each of us. He spoke very clear English and was very knowledgeable on everything that we saw. Tom was a safe driver and made sure that we were comfortable. I highly recommend this tour whether you are visiting the City, you are here on business or if you are in town boarding a cruise (like us). This tour shows you all of the highlights of Shanghai at a comfortable pace and Tom shows and tells you about all kinds of the things that you would miss on a group tour. Tom's van is large enough for you to keep your luggage, so you can take the tour and go straight to your hotel or cruise ship. I can't say enough good things about this tour. English: excellent Vehicle: excellent Attractions visited: excellent Knowledge of attractions: excellent Knowledge of area: excellent Price: excellent

This was the perfect half day tour. Tom did a wonderful job explaining everything and was very informational. My favorite part was Yuyuan Garden. I highly recommend this tour if you do not want to do a full day tour. This was a perfect 4-4.5 hour tour seeing the best parts of Shanghai.

That was our best tour in Shanghai! Tom was so incredible, delicate, knowledgeable and very helpful. The Yu Gardens were one of a kind and impressed us very much. The French concession and the Bund became one of our favorite places in Shanghai because if the unique mixture of cultures and the tea ceremony was delicious we have never tasted that amazing tea flavors before. The tour is definitely a must and is incredibly good. Our recommendations is to pick it in the beginning of your Shanghai visit! A must with the best Shanghai guide Tom!
