This is a wonderful, hassle-free experience to see Shanghai by night from a semi-private deck on the top floor of a river boat. Maisey was our private tour guide for the evening who effectively whisked us past crowds waiting to board. A truly first class experience.

We have read about and seen photos & videos online of the river cruise and the lights of Shanghai but to experience it was beyond what we expected! To go with all this was our marvellous guide Michael who looked after us all evening and took us for an evening meal which was delicious. I have been on many Viator tours around the world. This tour was truly a Private tour! Our tour guide, Maisie, was the absolute best! She was so kind, knowledgeable, sweet, and seemed genuinely happy to show us around. I could go on and on about her! She was absolutely precious! There was great communication with Sunny, the tour operator. She was great about messaging me right up until we met with Maisie on where we needed to go. Our tour included transportation, but unfortunately our hotel was outside of the pickup zone. This is important to note. We decided to get our own didi against Sunny’s advice since we would have to pay more. This was the wrong thing to do. I would 100% suggest taking their transport van. It was luxurious! We did ask to take it back to our hotel at the end of the tour and they were able to accommodate us. Massage chairs were top notch and a perfect end to the night! As for the tour, the boat ride was good. We got to see the cityscape which was beautiful. Getting on the boat though would be rated a 2. We were pushed and literally shoved trying to get to the VIP area. Maisie was trying her best to show the guards our tickets when people started putting up money! The guards took it and allowed those people to go. It was a free for all and so sad for the people that had tickets. It was a bit scary and crazy, but we finally got to the top deck (some of the last to make it) and had to find three chairs together. Our chairs were against the rail and once I stood up to take a picture, a lady stepped between me and the rail literally touching me to take a picture instead of saying excuse me. You just need to remember some people have no couth whatsoever but this was not the tours fault. Just something other travelers should be aware of. After the boat ride, we took a van to the restaurant. The restaurant was fabulous! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. You get to pick what you want to eat from the menu and everything we chose (some being Maisie’s suggestions) were fabulous! In all, I would recommend this tour!

Very enjoyable cruise. Definitely worth taking. We got a fantastic view of the famous Shanghai skyline and the light show. Our guide Michael was extremely helpful, efficient, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and professional. He went out of his way to cater for two senior members of our group.
It was magnificent and Lucy is really great, she has a lot of knowledge about the city's history and is very kind.

An Outstanding Tour in Shanghai – Michael Made All the Difference This tour was absolutely fantastic. Shanghai is an incredible city, and the experience exceeded our expectations. A special highlight was the VIP area on the river cruise. It really makes a difference: you have a privileged view of Shanghai’s spectacular skyline while enjoying the cruise in a completely peaceful, quiet and comfortable environment, away from the crowds. It was definitely worth it and made the boat trip even more special. But what truly made this tour exceptional was Michael, our guide. We have been travelling around China for 16 days and have had at least seven different guides during our trip, some of whom spent entire days with us. We only spent two or three hours with Michael, and yet I can say without any hesitation that he was the best guide we had during our entire 16-day trip in China. Michael was professional, knowledgeable, friendly and extremely engaging. In such a short amount of time, he managed to make our experience in Shanghai truly memorable. A fantastic tour, an excellent VIP cruise experience and, above all, an outstanding guide. Congratulations to Michael — he truly made all the difference. Highly recommended!

What a great way to spend our last night in Shanghai. Roy was very personable and knowledgeable. He had great suggestions for food, including those delicious soup dumplings. In between food and sights , he gave us some insight into Shanghai and history of the city. Would highly recommend and ask for Roy, you won't regret it.

This was a wonderful experience and I can’t recommend it enough. From pick up to drop off it could not be faulted. One of our party is mobility impaired and they were accommodated for without fuss. What a fabulous evening we had in Shanghai with Michael. We chose the VIP Huangpu River cruise - worth every yuan. We even had a private limo with massage chairs. The dinner and ride to the top of the Shanghai Tower were highlights of our life. Michael was so knowledgeable with outstanding English. He did everything to make our tour perfect in every way, even explaining about our food and Chinese table manners and customs. Michael was absolutely superlative in every way. We cannot thank and recommend him enough.

The cruise to see the night skyline of Shanghai was great. Tour guide Roy provided commentary along the way. Was in the VIP area with a clear uncrowded view. Shanghai Tower was fantastic. Recommend doing it at night - no lines and the lights are amazing. Don't be put off by rain, the view was still excellent. To my delight, the transport vehicle had massage seats.

We had an amazing guide named Michael. We were picked up on time and were taken to the boat where we had a seat in the VIP section. Well worth the money. Michael was very informative, polite and knowledgeable. He filled us in on the history of Shanghai while explaining the many buildings we could see. After that we were taken to the tower and once again Michael was an excellent guide explaining the quirky names of buildings. It was rather a misty night so the view wasn’t the best but he made it interesting with his stories. We were then taken to a local restaurant where he explained the food and culture of the Chinese. The food was excellent. He carefully chose dishes for us considering I’m vegetarian. The entire evening was amazing. From hotel pickup to drop off we could not fault anything. Our driver was safe, our guide was wonderful so it made the experience magical. I would definitely recommend this tour specially if you are lucky enough to get Michael as your guide
Lucy guided us through the river cruise and offered very interesting insights into the tour. She explained how much the city has grown in the last 35 years showing pictures of before and after. Then taking us up the tower and making the whole transition very smooth. Excellent host and would highly recommend.
Cassie Chen, our tour guide, was excellent. She was knowledgeable, personal, friendly and very accommodating. She not only showed as the amazing city of Shanghai, but also gave us a lot of information about China, its history of past and present. She is a very intelligent and well rounded person, who is also very interested in her clients needs and interests and willing to adjust. She was amazing in explaining the breathtaking view at night in detail.
A fantastic evening in Shanghai. Michael was our guide, he was entertaining, knowledgable, good company and clearly enjoyed his job it was a pleasure to spend the evening with him learning about this city. For dinner we had traditional dishes, Michael explained about each one and Chinese dining culture we learnt so much. The boat ride was lovely at the back of the boat where it was quiet, and despite being cloudy it was good to see the view from the tower. We are first time visitors to Shanghai, and wanted to do some personalised tours to see the city. Michael was our tour guide for the River Cruise and Shanghai Tower - we cannot recommend him more highly, he’s an excellent tour guide. Michael is personable, friendly, very knowledgeable, informative and accommodating. He provided us with great insight during the tour, and recommendations on what we should consider doing during our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 hours this evening and look forward to future tours with Michael also. We’d highly and unreservedly recommend him as your next personalised guide in Shanghai.
For the price (around $300 for two people), this tour felt significantly overpriced. To put it into perspective: a luxury taxi to and from the hotel is roughly $40 of ordering via Didi, and the Huangpu River cruise itself is about $50 for two. That leaves nearly $200 to justify through the guide’s service - which, unfortunately, did not happen. The guiding itself was very basic. Most of the facts shared were things I had already read online in about 30 minutes of Googling beforehand. There was little depth, storytelling, or insider insight that would normally justify a “VIP” experience at this price point. Additionally, the level of enthusiasm was quite low. Instead of feeling like valued guests on a private tour, we sometimes felt more like… an inconvenient relative being escorted around. The cruise itself is nice, but that’s not unique to this tour. Overall, I would not recommend this experience at this price level. If priced much lower, expectations would be different — but as it stands, the value simply isn’t there.
This was an excellent tour. Cassei our guide did a great job, same as the tour operator who provided timely and great communication. The tour included a boat ride in the river where the VIP seats are a must to avoid the super crowded general areas. Cassei gave us great insights about the city and took some awesome pictures of my wife and me. Later she took us to dinner to a super nice restaurant were she chose several menu items that we really enjoy. We climbed to the 118 floor of the Shanghai tower where she continued with very nice explanations. After some free time at the gift shop, she asked the driver to show us a few interesting places while driving us back to the hotel. The driver and the car were also excellent. In summary very nice tour and awesome job by Cassei. Highly recommended! Will look for them again if we return to Shanghai.

We did the Nightine river cruise to see the skyline and a visit to the Shanghai tower to look down on the river and night skyline. Lea was amazing . She has perfect English and we have no Chinese. She was prompt and was able to answer all ours questions and provide I formation about the buildings we saw and some Shanghai insights. We also had a oprivate car as part of the tour to take us to the island and to the tower.

What a great time. Easy pick up from our hotel in a nice clean car (thanks Charles!) and our guide met us at the car when we arrived at the docks. Sammi led us to the VIP area of the boat which was much quieter and less crowded. Amazing views of all the lights, a little snack, and Sammi’s knowledge of the city made it a great way to see Shanghai from a different perspective. So glad we did this.
shanghai really is spectaculer at night and viewing from the river was the way to go . as soon as it got dark the light show started which was pretty amazing

The vehicle they picked us up in was luxury and we got to sit in private seats on the river cruise also. The tour to top of building was so fun! We saw a lot in a little time, highly recommend this tour!
It was a really great program. We first went on a cruise and the view was perfect because of the private seats, it wasn't crowded and we took really good photos. Lucy the tour guide was very nice and prepared, we got a lot of information. The Shanghai tower in the evening lights was amazing and afterwards we were at a local restaurant where everything was very tasty and delicious. I highly recommend the office and Lucy!
The tour guide and driver were very nice. There are crowds for the river cruise so it was nice to be seated in VIP. While the tour guide seemed knowledgeable, the local meal was not enjoyable (a lot of food wasted) and she seemed very tired.
Lucy is the best! It was great to hear about history from her, and we asked a million questions. Everything was so smooth and easy. Great high end way to experience the cruise and tower.

We had an amazing time doing the private night tour VIP river cruise and dinner. I’m glad we booked this activity with a guide since there was a lot of people ( Chinese national day ) and our guide Lucy was so helpful her English was so fluent, the view is amazing and we were able to take some amazing photos. I also recommend the dinner, as she was able to explain and help us order. We loved it. They also picked us up from our hotel.
Although I had anticipated dining on board, the option was unavailable. Nevertheless, the experience itself was truly exciting, and I particularly appreciated my English-speaking guide, Ray or Roy?, whose politeness and professionalism left a lasting impression.

We had the most incredible Shanghai night tour with our guide, Cassie. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, and she made the evening truly unforgettable. The night began with a relaxing Huangpu River cruise, where we were able to take in the dazzling skyline of Shanghai lit up against the night sky. Cassie knew all the best spots on the boat for photos and explained the history and significance of the buildings we were seeing, which made the experience so much more meaningful. After the cruise, we visited the Shanghai Tower, the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world. Cassie timed everything perfectly so that we were able to enjoy the stunning city views without feeling rushed. She shared fascinating insights about the architecture, the city’s rapid development, and even pointed out hidden gems from above that most tourists would never notice.
