Awesome tour! Our guide, Li, was very personable, humorous, and informative. I enjoyed learning a little about the French Concession, as we were being introduced to some great foods. Well worth the price.

Some of Shanghai’s best food is found streetside in the morning hours. Explore a local market and taste the Chinese breakfast of champions with this street food tour through the beautiful former French Concession neighborhood. You’ll meet our trusted vendors selling classic local dishes, including the world-famous jianbing (Chinese crepe), steaming baskets of the city’s finest soup dumplings, freshly-pulled noodles, and much more.
Start your morning off at Xiangyang Park. Stroll through one of the former French Concession’s most energetic parks – and watch the retirees practicing tai chi, water calligraphy, line dancing and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Finish your tour in the shadows of IAPM, one of Shanghai's most luxurious shopping malls with great local boutiques, bars, cinemas, and restaurants (although you won't need to eat again for hours after the tour).

This is the our second time doing this food tour. Our first was in 2024 and we could not wait to do the tour again. Some of the stops were the same, but there where many new stops. Our guide built the day around what we were hoping to experience. We came very hungry but still had to pass ourselves. The tour is an incredible value for the almost 20 food stops. Our guide even brought with containers so we could package up some of the items and bring them back with us for 2nd breakfast!
Great intro to excellent streetfood in Shanghai by a knowledgable and entertaining guide.
I loved strolling through the local neighborhoods and getting a glimpse of everyday life at the wet market. Rachel did a great job showing us around, pointing out interesting murals, architecture, and little details along the way. She also introduced each of the breakfast items which made the experience extra special. The jianbing was definitely my favorite! A great way to explore a different side of Shanghai while enjoying some delicious local breakfast.
This was a great food tour. We met early and tried a lot of different local breakfast foods. The food was delicious, the guide was great. Highly recommend!
Had such a great time with Hope at the breakfast tour. There was a great variety of stories, knowledge, and food. Loved the taste and portions while walking through different parts of the city. Thanks Hope !
It's really a wonderful experience for us to do this morning's Shanghai food tour with Rachel. I believe all of us enjoyed it so much, and we love Rachel, her personality and her professional knowledge of history, the food. We care about the details, and we need to shout out to Rachel for her scissors, haha! If you know, you know :) Morning food tour is definitely the best way to open Shanghai city with your taste! 10 out of 10! - from your close partner, WildChina Team :)
This tour was a real treat! Our guide Rachel was excellent and it was so fun learning about and sampling genuine breakfast food from Shanghai. Rachel also had a wonderful knowledge of the area and it's history. Arrive hungry as there is plenty to try!
This was such a wonderful experience - we love going on food tours, especially ones that encompass so much more than the food alone! Besides the delicious dishes and snacks we got to try, we really appreciated the way our guide Li encouraged interaction within the group, and was always able to tell us something interesting about the dish/area and history behind them. Upon learning one of my reasons for being in Shanghai was to trace the steps of my maternal grandfather, Li also kindly highlighted whenever we were walking through areas that would have existed when my grandfather was a young boy. This was such a thoughtful gesture and a highlight of my entire time in the city. This particular tour was a great example of how it’s always about so much more than an item of food. Highly recommend! Oh yes - arrive early at the meeting point to enjoy a walk around the park while the uncles and aunties go about the morning rhythms of meditation, t’ai chi, playing instruments, exercising and dancing!
Excellent tour with Li. I was on a 15 hour layover so decided to go into the city and experience Shanghai. Li was very professional and polite and gave an interesting insight into life in Shanghai. Highly recommended!
I’ve done a few food tours in Shanghai and this was the best one. Li did a fantastic job of sharing the local culture and some history of Shanghai while taking us down hidden alleys and seeing the old shikumen style homes. The food was delicious (although always too much food) and Li was entertaining and funny. Great choices of places, nice walking route. Excellent guide. Highly recommend.
Rachel was really nice and knowledgeable. The tour was great.
Really great experience and would highly recommend
A most wonderful 3 hours spent enjoying the way millions of locals start the day. Full of revelations of how Shanghai eats and lives. Woven into the history of the city. Exceptional value lead with joy by a knowledgeable guide. Sign up today
We had a fantastic time on the Untour Shanghai Breakfast Tour with Rachel as our guide. Focusing on the French Concession area was a lovely choice. It gave us the opportunity to explore beautiful tree-lined streets, charming local neighborhoods, and learn about the history and character of one of Shanghai's most interesting districts. The walk was easy-paced and relaxed, making it enjoyable for everyone. We were fortunate to have lovely weather during our visit in May, which made the experience even better. The food was excellent throughout the tour. Highlights included a delicious jianbing, fresh soy milk, and dumplings at a local government-run senior center, which was a unique and memorable experience that we would never have found on our own. Rachel was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the city. She shared fascinating insights about the neighborhood and daily life in Shanghai, while also giving us plenty of practical local tips. We are coffee enthusiasts and were looking for specialty coffee shops selling Yunnan beans. Rachel pointed us in exactly the right direction and recommended several excellent local cafés that we enjoyed during the rest of our stay. This tour was the perfect combination of great food, local culture, history, and insider knowledge. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting Shanghai and wanting to experience a more authentic side of the city.
Highly recommend both the dinner or breakfast tours to orient your exploration of the city and eat SO MUCH food. Our breakfast guide Rachel was particularly articulate about everything we tried food wise as well as giving us historical context for the food we were eating and the neighborhood we explored. We brought our toddler and had to leave the travel stroller outside or folded up to get into some tight spots, but it was easy to accomplish and family friendly. Allergies were also easily accommodated. I will recommend to my friends
I did the Shanghai Breakfast Food Tour with Hope Zhang and absolutely loved it. The food itself was incredible — everything from fresh jianbing to scallion pancakes and dumplings — but what made the experience special was how much context and history Hope added throughout the walk. It felt like part food tour, part neighborhood history tour through the Former French Concession. Hope was warm, knowledgeable, and thoughtful about dietary restrictions, and she took us into small local spots I never would have found on my own. I also appreciated that the tour balanced classic Shanghai breakfast staples with broader insight into Chinese food culture and daily life in the city. Come hungry — there’s a lot of food. Highly recommend if you want a more authentic, local experience in Shanghai beyond the typical tourist itinerary.
I had a great morning on what ended up being a private tour with Li! If you’re an early riser and want to see what the locals eat for breakfast, this is a must. Everything was so delicious and I left feeling very full! Thankfully all the walking helped. Li shared so much about the food and the areas we walked through and was a really wonderful guide. Could not recommend this tour more!
I had the most amazing experience with my guide Rachel. I was only in town for a few days and wanted to maximize my time (ie eat as much as possible!) I left very happy and full, and appreciated the cultural context we received. I definitely recommend this tour if you want to explore Shanghai's local food scene.
Hope was great! We loved the food and the little bits of local lore
Such a wonderful experience! We toured with Rachel, and she was amazing. All the food was delicious, and she shared interesting bits of history along the way. We never felt rushed at any of the stops, and she was constantly checking in and taking great care of us. She also gave great recommendations for things to do on our own time. 10/10 recommend for anyone looking to get a taste of the local cuisine.
Great experience on a private breakfast tour with Hope - great food and very patient guide!
This tour is definitely worth getting out of bed early for. Hope was fantastic. She accommodated the whole group, had many insights on Shanghai and managed to show us a variety of different local foods.
We had a great breakfast tour with Li. We ate delicious and varied street food that we watched being prepared. Li also showed us some fascinating areas in the French concession and had excellent knowledge about their history. It was a very entertaining start to our day.
in town cisiting my son at NYU Shanghai. Another parent recommended this tour. Such a great experience lining up with locals grabbing breakfast at several different locations and in between learning about the French Concession neighborhood history.
We had a great time on the tour with Rachel. The food stops were small places in the Former French Concession neighbourhood busy with locals and all delicious. We really liked visiting the wet market and seeing the locals get their ingredients. We also enjoyed learning more about life in Shanghai and the bits of information about the history of the area. Would highly recommend the tour!
Loved this Shanghai street breakfast tour! Rachel was an outstanding guide — friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. She introduced me to amazing local dishes and hidden spots I’d never find alone. A perfect way to experience real Shanghai in the morning!
This was my second tour with UnTour during our visit to Shanghai, and it was even better than the (fantastic) night tour. I was fortunate to have Hope as my guide again this time and she was great. It was so much fun sampling all of the breakfast choices, many of which I probably wouldn't have tried without Hope's expert guidance. Loved everything, but especially the scallion pancakes, the Jianbing, and the yeasted scallion bread. If you like carbs this is the tour for you! What really set this tour above others (in addition to the food) was the exploration of the neighborhood in between food stops. Hope took me down tiny alleys I never would have seen and explained so much about the history of the former French concession, its architecture and current life there. Definitely a 10/10 experience.
Rachel was our English speaking tour guide and delivered great information regarding the area and introduced us to yummy local foods. I highly recommend taking this 3 hour tour so you can see the neighborhood and eat so much that you will be able to skip lunch. Thank you.
We had such a wonderful time on this breakfast tour with our guide Li. He spoke perfect English, and was super funny, entertaining and knowledgeable about Shanghai. He took us to all the best food spots and we ate until we were close to bursting. Could not recommend this tour more, would absolutely do a tour through this company again. I have done food tours all over the world, and this was easily one of the best!
Hope Zhang was a great guide. Not only were the food choices amazing but we also got a walking tour with lots of historical information and fun facts. Hope also took into account dietary restrictions and allergies which was really nice. I highly recommend.
My friend and I had a great time in this tour with Topher. He is knowledgeable about not only the food but how Shanghai has changed over the years. Absolutely loved going to smaller local family-owned establishments and getting a feel of the every day and food culture. There is something for everyone on this tour and you will be comfortable o this tour even if you aren’t an adventurous eater. Highly recommend!
Great food tour led by Li. Great experience sampling local and authentic delights and an engaging and interesting tour. Li was great in his explanations and navigation and made the whole tour entertaining
My husband and I go on a LOT of food tours, and this was one of the best. Li not only took us to amazing spots with delicious food, but he patiently and knowledgeably answered all of our questions along the way. As we walked, he shared bits of interesting history and culture with us about our surroundings, making us feel immersed in the neighborhoods we explored. You won't be disappointed!
Love the personality of our guide, Li. Great combination of exercise and yummy food. Enjoy this morning a looot and I'm sooo full😋
This is a great tour to experience the local Shanghai cuisine! Our guide Li is very charming and knowledgeable. He took us to some really interesting family-owned restaurants, had hand sanitizers and wet wipes at ready, and took great care of us! I particularly enjoyed the stroll in the French Concession area. The food was yummy too! Come with an empty stomach
We had an amazing experience with Li walking the old streets of Shanghai, stopping to admire small architectural and historical facets that would have gone completely unnoticed without his expert knowledge, and of course, feasting on a whole variety of delectable local fare along the way. Li was an excellent guide—great at managing a disparate group, keeping us on-track, on-time, well-fed and fully engaged. Great experience all around - highly highly recommend!
An amazing tour — a good mix of history and food, and I really enjoyed every single thing we tried! Loved the bonus of being able to explore the wet market too, and Li was awesome at explaining all the different kinds of things on offer! Highly recommend!
This tour was amazing. Not only you would eat delicious food at spots that would be hard to find alone, but you would also see how is made and have a lot of knowledge about the French Concession! 100 percent recommended.
I had a wonderful time on this tour trying a variety of delicious food - my guide, Li, was very knowledgeable and made the experience fun!! I would definitely recommend - you will leave feeling full and satisfied by the tasty dishes and lovely guide. The accompanying Welcome Guide is also an added bonus with additional recommendations for Shanghai.
This is a great tour with the genial and very knowledgeable Topher. All the food was excellent. Great value and would totally recommend. 10/10
We had a fabulous tour with Topher. He's lived in Shanghai for years, and is happy to share his knowledge of this fascinating city. The places we went to eat were just what we wanted - nothing too heavy for a morning tour, and we were left feeling full but not too much. 10/10 recommend this tour.
Excellent tour, discovered hidden gems on this breakfast for champions walking tour. Food was great, nice stories by our guide to understand the history and food habits better. Would fully recommend this.
What an amazing experience. Li was super friendly and informative. Even took us to other interesting sites. Also was very helpful in answering some other unrelated tourist questions for us. The food venues were amazing, the food was super tasty! Worth every cent and every step.
We enjoyed the tour and learning about an area of Shanghai and especially the wet market. The food was good but a little bit of overlap with the food choices because we had already been on the dinner tour in Beijing. Paul our guide was informative and engaging.
We had an exceptional experience with Christopher. He met us at our hotel and had a luxury car pick us up to start our tour. He shared information about the history and culture of Shanghai, as well as the food culture for breakfast in Shanghai. The food choices were excellent. I could have eaten the Shanghai pancake everyday. He was also very conscious about portion sizes. While he was more than willing to order us lots of food, he allowed us to select portion sizes so we felt full but not stuffed. After the tour he stayed in contact and help us with a few restaurant recomendations and hard to find shopping information.
My wife and I had a great time with Paul. All the food was delicious and there was so much of it. Paul gave us great insight into shanghai life and history behind the food too. Highly recommend.
A great way to experience a range of styles from some fantastic little places. Topher was very knowledgeable and engaging. You won’t be hungry after this tour.
This is such a great tour to take when you've just gotten to a city and you want a quick intro to the culture. Our guide Li was so friendly and fun and clearly knew his stuff! I'd lived in Shanghai a number of years ago but was with my husband who'd never been to China - the tour was great for both of us as I discovered placed I never knew existed. They're super accommodating in terms of spice level or food restrictions. I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking for a tour of real value in Shanghai!
Love the tour and amazed to taste many local breakfast and experience the local culture with seen how city developed in China. The food we had was absoutely delicious and almost being the comfort food to me (after a big Friday night...). Met interesting people from England and Australia and not to mention our host Li's hospitality. It's a perfect morning for me to spend within this tour!
