This was a first rate class with an experienced knowledgeable teacher. We learned a lot and were able to put what we had let into practice.

This class was fun. Lucy was a great and polite instructure. She shared with us the history of Chinese calligraphy and was impressed with her expertise.

A very awesome deep dive into calligraphy history and demonstration. It was just my partner and I so we got extra attention to our questions and we got to choose more challenging and involved characters for our final product. Highly recommend if even if you dont know much about calligraphy or dont care, youll learn to appreciate it!

It was just so inspiring to learn the basics of ancient Chinese calligraphy with Lucy in Shanghai. Her depth of understanding, patient, friendly and interactive manner in explanation as well as skilful instructions on the strokes of Chinese calligraphy immediately put one , especially a new beginner at ease. I was so inspired by the history of the writing and waste no time to buy the calligraphy papers, ink and brushes and started to practise them at home. Now I am proud to say that I had written a few ancient Chinese calligraphy words on some fans to be given as gifts to friends. Thanks Lucy!💕

Lucy is very kind and has a clear idea of what can be accomplished in two hours. She gave me a brief overview of the history before moving on to practical exercises, which concluded with a take-home project as a keepsake.

It was really fantastic: First an interesting introduction to Chinese characters and the basics of the art of calligraphy followed by actually practicing. The content was perfectly balanced. Lucy is extremely friendly and kind and encouraging and knowlegeable. I loved every thing about the experience from the location to the content and the possibility to make one fo my oldest dreams come true. Lucy allowed me to try out something I had wanted to do for years even if it was maybe not the easiest option for a first time, she was flexible and super helpful. The setting, in a very small group in someone's home who full time job and passion are calligraphy made the whole experience very special. I loved that I could buy some material after the course to keep practicing back home. The grinding stone and ink and brush I bought from Lucy are by far the most exciting and precious gifts I got on this trip; they are little bit of China in my home now and i am so proud to show off the scroll on which I calligraphed my very first Chinese characters

We had a wonderful learning experience with Lucy. We learned a lot about calligraphy - history, utensils and hands on - it was very enjoyable. She was very knowledgeable, welcoming and good at communicating. I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who is the least bit interested in calligraphy.

Lucy is knowledgeable, kind and highly flexible. She came back to China after Ivy league training and job in finance because she loves calligraphy and it shows. Away from the hustle and bustle, you learn and you get the best souvenirs, ones that you make yourself!

Lucy gave an excellent introduction to calligraphy. She explained the history, different styles, the ink stone, brushes, and how to hold and use them. Then you work to write on a scroll or a fan with a chinese character that you practice with her. I learned a lot and enjoyed it as well! Very good value !

I learned so much about the basics of calligraphy, as well as the history, and we got ample time to practice and create our own artwork. The studio was very cozy and comfortable. This was so much fun! If you're curious about calligraphy, I recommend it. You don't need any previous knowledge, as Lucy will explain everything during the session. The first part was an informative and very interesting introduction about the tools and history (you'll never look at calligraphy works the same way after this). During the second part, we practiced with the tools and created our own personalized work to bring home. It was amazing to see Lucy demonstrate the examples and exercises. She is skilled, knowledgeable, and patient, and we learned so much from her. She even had some delicious tea ready for us, which was such a thoughtful detail. Thank you, Lucy!

I am glad we booked this calligraphy class early in our Shanghai trip! Our class was divided into two sessions. In the first session, Lucy, our amazing calligraphy expert, was able to give us a crash course on the history of chinese calligraphy. The second session involved using and practicing the calligraphy techniques. I would definitely recommend anyone who comes to Shanghai to try this experience.

I had the loveliest time in this class!! Lucy was so amazing, she’s so knowledgable and genuine, it was truly such a great time. A great way to experience Shanghai in the context of art. The first half of the class is learning about some history on Chinese calligraphy, and the second half is learning how to write/paint. Lucy was a great instructor, and very patient with us novices 😂 She inspired me to go and get some brushes and ink to practice on my own. Would definitely recommend if you’re ever in Shanghai and want a different type of experience!

Other than the class itself, we were given a brief history and information which are vital to the class. We enjoyed our calligraphy class so much than what we expected. Lucy is a very knowledgeable instructor. We look forward to having more classes with her.

Our calligraphy master class in Shanghai was a highlight of our trip. The session was incredibly interesting and well-structured. It began with an informative introduction to the art's history, which really helped us appreciate the craft. The practical part was both challenging and fun – getting to paint with the brushes was a hands-on experience we loved. We were also thrilled that we could keep our artwork as a souvenir. What made it truly special, however, was the personal touch. After the class, we had a lovely, heartfelt talk with the host and even exchanged small gifts. It felt like a genuine cultural exchange, not just a tourist activity. We enjoyed every minute and would definitely recommend this master class to anyone visiting Shanghai.

Lucy is an amazingly proficient, knowledgeable, and friendly teacher and calligrapher. The workshop was even better than we had dared hoping for! Lucy has taken us through the history of Chinese writing styles and calligraphy with plenty of interesting stories. Lucie was an excellent guide and teacher, with some great hands training for doing calligraphy. She showed us how to do the characters we selected, then helped refine our technique, each of us leaving with a nice example of the handiwork. The calligraphy class with Lucy was such a cool and insightful session. We were the only ones who had booked the class, so we got 1:1 history lesson on the development of Chinese calligraphy throughout time, and we learned so much about Chinese history, dynasties, etc. The painting part of the class was so much fun, and we each did a piece of Chinese wallpaper decor to take with us home. Such a cool memory to have in Shanghai. Would really recommend anyone to go!

We finished our trip to China with this two hour class. The first hour was Lucy explaining the history and background to calligraphy, which really gave us a great appreciation for the artistry and made it easier when we started to practice in the second hour! Lucy was very kind, patient and helpful and we felt this experience taught us a lot about Chinese culture and art. Would highly recommend for anyone who loves art and/or cultural experiences!

This artist is one of the nicest, most patient and informative teachers we have ever interacted with. My kids (all 3-ages 5,9,12) all walked away with a great memory of China. They still talk about it.

Her studio is a little off the beaten track, but she provided excellent directions from the nearby metro station and we found it with no problems. I highly recommend this calligraphy class. Lucy is a wonderful teacher with a lot of background knowledge. She made the workshop very interesting, even for a western guy who knew nothing about Chinese writing. This was a top experience with hands- on learning. On top you get your own calligraphic production on a nice scroll to take home.

My two hours learning some basics of calligraphy with Lucy was a highlight of my trip to China. I enjoyed looking at all Chinese writing, both in museum art and on the streets, with a new appreciation. I intend to continue with ink brush calligraphy and painting now that I am back home. Lucy is well informed, and was encouraging and inspiring for me as a beginner. I enjoyed seeing examples of different types of Chinese calligraphy. I would have liked better directions from the subway to the lane - once in the lane the house numbers are well marked.

I came to spend a relaxing and fun moment learning something new and left with good tips and a few notions on how to appreciate the ancestral art of Chinese calligraphy. Lucy is very gentle and wise and knows very well how to express her love for this discipline. Her knowledge has helped me look at Chinese calligraphy works during my trip with new eyes. Very enriching experience! The location might seem a bit difficult to find. If you follow the instructions that Lucy provides, you’ll get there without problems ;)
