Excellent location, just minutes from both the Bund and Nanjing Road. The hotel has a distinctive boutique feel, with dark, moody lighting, timber finishes and a stylish design that works well for an upscale property. Our stay did get off to a disappointing start. As a Marriott Platinum Elite member, we were surprised not to receive an upgrade, and several requests we had made in advance were also not arranged, including food we had specifically ordered for our baby, as well as a firm mattress and pillows. There were also a few maintenance details that could use attention, such as the shower door, which was unusually noisy every time it was opened or closed. That said, the staff genuinely made an effort to turn things around and make our stay more comfortable. They handled our numerous Taobao deliveries extremely well, were helpful throughout the stay, and the in-room dining, while somewhat limited in choice, was consistently good quality. By the end, they had managed to ensure we had an enjoyable stay overall. Though the staff’s English could be better for a hotel of this global stature. The spa was probably our biggest disappointment. It is somewhat unusual for a hotel of this level to have the spa operated by a third party, and the pricing felt extremely difficult to justify. A 90-minute massage was in the region of USD 4-500, which is exceptionally high, particularly for what we felt was only a fairly average spa experience. One other point worth knowing for business travellers is that the hotel does not have a business centre. If you need to take a private work call or Zoom meeting, there is surprisingly no dedicated quiet space available. Overall, a beautifully designed hotel in an excellent Shanghai location, with a team who worked hard to recover from a disappointing start. A few operational details, particularly around pre-arrival requests, the spa proposition and facilities for business travellers, could be improved considerably.

Service Overall at the lobby and front of house been impeccable. Level 26 bar could have been better/ no initiative by any staff to top up water when glass been empty for 20mins (it may be due to the bar being filled by new or part timer servers). Staff here are better looking too compared to most other chains Marriott I’ve stayed at. Food Breakfast was good , taste was yummy overall with a good Ala carte menu. Drinks at the level 26 bar was mediocre . Consider getting standard canned drinks / shots or beer instead of cocktails . Havnt had time to try to level 1 bar as I decided to shorten our stay from 4 to 2 days cause we couldn’t sleep too well. Rooms Despite it being clean and pretty - the breaking point for me was the curtains. The rooms mostly have got 2 long window panels / the top and bottom of the curtains are too short / therefore not able to fully block out the sunlight . You get a lot of light shining in at 630am in the morning and it’s impossible to sleep if you’re a light sleeper sensitive to light . (Hotel may consider giving guests some sleeping eye mask to solve this problem while they fix the curtains). Sound proofing not the best as you can hear doors slamming closed at times. Fortunately it’s a small hotel with not a high volume of guests movement Overall, it’s a hotel that I like but with a need to sacrifice sleep quality for me. Not a hotel I’ll come back unless they fix the curtains . For a hotel at this price point / I feel the hardware ought to be improved. It seems like this is a concern for many guests as per my conversation with the staff. Having this curtain issue fixed would make this a way better experience .
We stayed for 3 nights and it was a great experience from beginning to end. The hotel is beautiful from the lobby to the room. It is clean, modern, and very conveniently located (if you want to walk). It is not as convenient if you need to be picked up because the front lobby is located where cars cannot come in. The hotel is attached to a mall with lots of food options! It is walkable to a lot of shops. I would recommend this place for anyone heading to Shanghai. Thanks for a great 5 star experience!
We had a pleasant stay at the Shanghai EDITION Hotel. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and well maintained, and the breakfast was of excellent quality with a great selection. The standout of our stay was the housekeeping team, especially our housekeeper 周萱. They were exceptionally attentive, friendly, and helpful, consistently providing outstanding service that truly reflected the hotel’s five-star standard. However, the service from the reception and concierge teams could be improved. They were polite but lacked the attentiveness and proactive service expected of a luxury hotel. The hotel is also not very convenient to access by car, and there is no sheltered walkway from the drop-off point to the entrance, which is particularly inconvenient during rainy weather. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and with improvements to the front desk, concierge service, and arrival experience, the hotel would provide an even better five-star experience.
The hotel boasts an excellent location right on Nanjing Road, making it incredibly convenient for shopping and dining. There is a wide variety of food options just steps away, offering plenty of choices for every taste. It is also just a 5-minute walk to the Bund, which is perfect for sightseeing and enjoying the iconic riverside views. If you stay on a higher floor, you can even enjoy a beautiful view of the Pearl Tower right from your room. The room is comfortable, providing a relaxing stay after a day out. The staff are attentive, friendly, and proactive in their service, which adds to the overall positive experience. Breakfast is delicious with a good selection to start the day well. Overall, a great choice for both convenience and comfort.
