The Peninsula Shanghai

Overall, I had a pleasant stay. The room was comfortable, with beautiful views of the Huangpu River and the Pudong skyline, especially at sunrise and at night. However, although I specifically booked a river-view room, the view was angled rather than directly facing the river and skyline, and was partially obstructed by the building, which was a little disappointing. At breakfast, we were reminded twice about wearing the hotel room slippers, even though we noticed other guests wearing them as well, which made us feel a bit uncomfortable. Also, breakfast was included in our room rate, but the menu still listed prices, and the ordering arrangement was not explained to us beforehand. I also felt there were too many chargeable drinks, snacks, and other items displayed in the room without clear pricing. It made the room feel a little more like a shop than a private space to relax. Overall, I still enjoyed my stay and appreciated the atmosphere and views, but for a hotel of this caliber and at this price point, I would have expected more attention to these details.

Beautiful, breathtaking view from our room. The hotel is absolutely stunning, fantastic and will be a treasured memory for the rest of our lives. The staff are wonderful and spoke great English, which we really appreciated being Canadians. The staff gave us a wonderful Anniversary gift in our room, as it was our 6th wedding anniversary. The restaurant on the 13th floor was also stunning, with amazing staff who took the very best of care of us. We were fortunate to also get the opportunity to use the terrace bar, on the 14th floor, with a romantic view of the city at night. This hotel is worth the price and I highway recommend staying here if visiting Shanghai. It will make you trip to the wonderful country a trip you'll remember forever. After a disappointing situation yesterday regarding a dinner reservation arranged through the concierge, I felt it was important to share my experience with the management at The Peninsula Shanghai. What truly impressed me was not only the immediate response, but the genuine care and attention that followed. Mr. Chon personally came to speak with us, sincerely apologized, sent wine and fruits to our room, and today was personally waiting for us downstairs, kindly offering the hotel’s Rolls-Royce for our transfer to the airport. This level of hospitality is rare. It’s not about gestures alone — it’s about people who truly understand what luxury service means. The Peninsula Shanghai is fortunate to have someone like him leading the guest experience. People like this are what make a hotel unforgettable.

We always wanted to stay at The Peninsula and this was the best hotel we stayed in China. From the check-in to the service everywhere, it was excellent. The rooms have old world luxury and were huge. The rooftop bar has great views of The Bund.
