My favorite hotel in Shanghai. And I’ve stayed at many. The space is absolutely beautiful. The bar is fantastic and breakfast is delicious. I’ll definitely return here during my next trip. And the service was fantastic.

Upper House Shanghai was very comfortable and stylish hotel experience. The design feel very modern but also calm, not too flashy luxury. I liked the quiet atmosphere, nice room, and the service was warm but not too formal. Location was also convenient for moving around Shanghai, and the hotel has good restaurants and bar inside, so I didn’t need to go far when I wanted relax. Everything feel very clean and well considered. 上海でまた泊まりたいホテルです. It is good for people who like design, privacy, and soft luxury feeling.
Generally speaking it's the bad experiences that really stick with me and it's not all that often that I have an experience so far to the opposite end of the spectrum that I know I won't forget it. The rooms are absolutely fantastic and the location could not be any better. It's right in the middle of everywhere you could possibly want to go but it's not too busy to just go for a walk around like in other areas. The absolute best part and what sets Upper House Shanghai apart from almost every other stay in have had is the service. The staff are amazing and go way above and beyond to make sure that you have an amazing stay. I really can't fault anything about our stay there and we will most definitely be back there at some point in the future. Thank you for an amazing stay and the great memories we have.
Stayed here for 7 nights. Extremely disappointed. Booked it because of the reviews from trip and booking. It did not live up to the expectation as heard. Location is really good undoubtedly. Architecture as well. One of the reasons why I booked it was for the architecture and the layout of the rooms. On our first day of arrival rooms wasn’t functioning well. There was some outrageous sound coming from the right tap. They did well sort it swiftly. But I realised the flooring persist squeaky sound that was unacceptable. As the stay persisted the service definitely did not live up to expectations. Concierge doesn’t bother to greet. Bell boy was unprofessional. Lack of professionalism and lack of warmth. I do feel they treated guest who dressed better nicer and warmer in comparison to us. We didn’t expect the service crew to be this pragmatic and realistic. We weren’t told there is a dress code at the hotel. If there is we would have obliged to it. On our departure I booked an Audi A7 to chauffeur me to the airport. As I was getting ready they prep me a merc e class instead. When questioned all they said was it was a free upgrade. Mate… it’s a similar segment car. Where comes the upgrade. It’s a lovely property I hope management could really look into the problems of this hotel. For the time being I will not return to any upper house properties.
Staying at Upper House Shanghai was a bit of a mixed experience—but overall, still a pleasant one. First, the biggest highlight: the location is unbeatable. It’s right next to HKRI Taikoo Hui, which made everything incredibly convenient—from shopping and dining to just getting around the city. You really can’t ask for a better spot if you want to be in the middle of it all. The service was also great. The staff were attentive, professional, and made the stay feel smooth and comfortable throughout. That said, there were a few things that didn’t quite work for us. The room felt noticeably dark, which might suit some people, but for me—and especially for my parents—it made the space feel a bit less welcoming. The bathroom area in particular could really use better lighting. The most surprising part, though, was the room design: we were assigned a room with a transparent glass wall. While it might be intended as a modern or stylish feature, it was honestly quite uncomfortable and unexpected, especially when sharing the space with family. All in all, Upper House Shanghai offers excellent service and a fantastic location, but the room design and lighting may not be for everyone—especially if you prefer a brighter, more private environment.
