Hello, I'd like to raise a recurring issue with my room access during two separate stays. On Monday, 8/17, my key card was demagnetized twice, and the door lock itself ran out of battery. That meant three trips down to the front desk, including one occasion where I could not enter my room at all because the lock had no power. I returned today, 8/22. The key worked on the first entry, then failed immediately after I left the room. I went down to have it remade. It failed again the next time I went out, and I had to return to the desk a third time to have it reprogrammed. When I raised this, I was told the issue is normal. It is not. Repeatedly losing access to my own room is not an acceptable standard for a Marriott property, and it is not something guests should be expected to work around. I'd appreciate confirmation that the lock on this room will be serviced or the battery replaced, rather than another key card simply being reissued. Please let me know what steps are being taken.

As a frequent Marriott traveller, this hotel is a travesty. Apart from the very dated interior, the room wasn’t ready at check in time - despite the fact that we paid for an executive suite, with the excuse given being that the room “needs more time to clean”. The safe box in the room was broken and the room is very dim. Luxury Collection is a true misnomer here.
I have stayed at the Hongta, several times over the past year, mainly because it is very close to my office. The location in Pudong works if you have business in the immediate area, but otherwise it’s not particularly convenient. The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk away, but for most visitors the location is not ideal. The hotel itself feels very dated and is clearly in need of renovation. I was quite surprised that it is part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, as the overall condition is far below what you would normally expect from that brand. The rooms are not dirty, but many things show heavy wear — carpets are worn, furniture is chipped and there are visible stains on some textiles. The hotel used to have a club lounge, but it has been closed for quite some time (around two years, as far as I understand). Instead, they offer a replacement happy hour in the restaurant. There is actually a decent amount of food and a limited drink selection, but it is not comparable to a real lounge where you could relax during the day. Breakfast is also rather disappointing for a hotel in this category. The selection is quite limited and mostly the same every day. The gym is another weak point. It is old and, unfortunately, not very clean, which is a pity because the space itself is quite large. The indoor pool is big and could be a highlight, but it opens relatively late in the morning, so it’s difficult to use before work. It also seems to host swimming lessons for children from outside the hotel, which can make it quite busy. Overall, the hotel is only really worth considering if you specifically need to stay in this part of Pudong. The room rates are usually quite reasonable, which reflects the overall condition of the property.
The Hongta Hotel leaves a very positive impression from the very beginning. The hotel is conveniently located, providing easy access to the main areas of the city. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well-equipped for a comfortable stay. The staff are polite, attentive, and always ready to assist with any request. The hotel’s cuisine deserves special praise — the dishes are delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. One distinctive feature is the breakfast: the menu remains the same every day. While some guests might see this as a drawback, I personally find it an advantage — it’s pleasant to know that your favourite dishes are always waiting for you in the morning. Overall, The Hongta Hotel is an excellent choice for those seeking comfort, high-quality service, and attention to detail.
Rooms: massive, and spacious. One can fit a whole family in this room. However you can tell the wear and tear of the place. Its old and needs a bit of uplifting. Comes with robes and slippers plus the shower essentials. Service: excellent everyone was very attentive but its hard to communicate when most staff barely speaks English. Or they might be shy I dont know but I limited myself from asking too much because Im left with a stare. Location: I honestly dont know if it was great or not as everything was there and nearby but languange was hard. I tried to stick with places I know I dont need to speak to anyone. But walking distance to the water.
