A good hotel for business trips and conferences The hotel was previously a Marriott Hongqiao and has since been renovated and rebranded as Renaissance Hongqiao. The rooms are decent, clean, and well-maintained, with large, comfortable beds and a good bathroom. However, compared with other Renaissance properties I have stayed at, the rooms feel closer to the Courtyard by Marriott level. Adding a coffee machine as an in-room amenity would be a nice improvement. The lobby is spacious and beautifully fitted out, creating a very welcoming first impression. The lobby bar was another highlight, with a great live band performing in the evening. The staff were also friendly and spoke reasonably good English, which is a real plus when staying in China. Breakfast was good and offered plenty of options, with good value for money. The hotel is located in the Hongqiao Business Center, making it convenient for business trips, conferences, and exhibitions. The main downside is the lack of nearby shops and convenience stores, so the surrounding area can feel a little isolated outside the hotel. Overall, I would recommend this hotel for business travelers attending conferences or exhibitions in the Hongqiao area, as well as for short transit stays. For leisure travelers looking to explore the city on foot, the location may be less convenient.
We stayed for two days from August 27th, 2026. Michael warmly welcomed us, who had arrived tired from our trip from Japan. Seeing us, he immediately tried to understand what we needed and what we wanted, and quickly worked with other staff members to accommodate us in a short amount of time. The room was clean, quiet, and we were very satisfied. Afterward, we traveled to Suzhou and other places, and then returned to Shanghai to stay at another hotel. However, we really wanted to spend our last two nights, from September 6th, at this hotel. We hastily canceled our planned four-night stay at another hotel and switched to the Renaissance Shanghai Hongqiao. And once again, from the moment we were greeted, it felt just like returning home. Michael warmly welcomed us. When we mentioned that we liked our previous room, he prepared almost the same room for us. Michael at the front desk is wonderful. He always cares about his customers. Furthermore, Linda, a restaurant staff member, is also very intelligent. She provided attentive service with a smile. The best part was the restaurant manager. He observed us carefully and accurately understood what we wanted. This hotel was absolutely wonderful. The cleanliness, functionality, brightness, comfort, and quietness of the rooms. The quality of the ingredients in the restaurant. We don't like spicy food or strongly flavored foods. They had ingredients that could accommodate us. The entire hotel was spacious, quiet, and relaxing. Above all, the staff were full of hospitality and greeted us with smiles. We are incredibly grateful to Michael, Linda, and the restaurant manager. Thank you very much. When we go to Shanghai or China again, we would like to stay at this hotel.
This used to be the Marriott HongQiao. It’s been rebranded Renaissance with updates to decor. I visited at the end of April 2026. The executive lounge wasn’t open, so they had happy hour in the restaurant then light bites and drinks in the lobby lounge. I like this hotel, the staff are great and facilities well up-kept. Not much food choices around, most restaurants have closed and the hotel doesn’t have a good dinner option. Metro is 5-8 mins on foot. Quick 10 mins to HongQiao Airport.
