Radisson Collection Lingang Shanghai

I’ve stayed in about 100 plus hotels and this one, in terms of room design, got it right. It has drawers, lots of it- a concept newer hotels seem to have forgotten. It has space to put away your luggage. Floor to ceiling windows. Blackout curtains. Good soundproofing. Large beds (I reserved a king, which many hotels in China don’t offer). Bathroom that is functional and 2 sinks (unusual even in top hotels). There’s a vanity with lights around the mirrors. Hairdryer and tea kettle located next to the plugs that they go into. Inside the safe, there’s a box for jewelry. These are small things but they matter. The hotel has a large pool but more for kids than lap swimming. Avoid holidays if you don’t want a ton of kids in the pool. There were a lot of families once the holiday started. The hotel is designed for the convention center next door but many locals have discovered it as a weekend getaway. Gym is also large with some unusual equipment. Almost empty when I was there. The service is good and friendly if you can communicate in Chinese. The staff all greet you in the morning. The bellman open doors when your taxi arrives. Room service is still a work in progress in that getting dishes taken away required a couple of calls. There’s a Chinese and a western restaurant on site. The breakfast is plentiful and varied but some items like the baked goods, are stale. The location is in a very new part of Shanghai an hour plus away from the center so only people with business there will stay there. Nevertheless, I was impressed by the details that went into the room designs. It was “thoughtful “, which is more than most high end hotels have managed. On this trip, I stayed at a Hyatt, an Intercontinental and a Hilton, all in China and this hotel topped them all. I wish other chains would go visit and learn a lesson.

Excellent hotel. Very friendly staff. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever encountered in a hotel. A varied breakfast. I also appreciated the sauna.
