This is a great hotel. We paid about £360 for 2 nights. The London Shangri La is about £700 a night. Superbly located and a much better bet than the Mandarin Oriental. We ate out - it was just a lovely place to stay. By using the Super Brand Mall and IFC Mall you can get to the railway station undercover if it is raining. Swap on to the Maglev or just ride for 50 mins right through.

The room was nice, clean, and comfortable, so no complaints there. Unfortunately, the luggage service at the entrance seems to operate on a rather interesting concept: either the staff are nowhere to be found, or they see you struggling with your luggage and decide it’s none of their business. We made eye contact with the staff, yet somehow no one seemed to notice that guests might actually need assistance. Perhaps is “luggage service” here is more of a decorative feature. Expected much better from a Shangri-La.
Hotel Review — Shangri-La Pudong, Shanghai I had an excellent stay at the Shangri-La Pudong, Shanghai. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. A special mention goes to Sorin Yan from the Concierge team, who was exceptional throughout my stay. Sorin was incredibly helpful, courteous, and proactive, always making sure everything was taken care of and that I had the information and assistance I needed. His attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile really stood out and made my experience even more enjoyable. The hotel itself is beautifully located in Pudong, with impressive views of Shanghai’s skyline, comfortable rooms, and the high level of hospitality you would expect from Shangri-La. Overall, a fantastic experience, and I would especially like to thank Sorin Yan for his outstanding service. He is a real asset to the hotel and a great example of Shangri-La hospitality. I would happily stay here again.
We have stayed at Shangri-La Pudong many times over the years as an airline crew hotel, including before COVID, so we have a good basis for comparison. The hotel itself is still grand and beautiful, although somewhat dated. Unfortunately, the overall service and some important details have declined. Breakfast: Before COVID, the buffet was fantastic, with a wide variety and plenty of protein options. Today, the selection is much smaller, the protein choices are limited, and much of the food was not particularly appetizing. For a hotel of this standard, this was disappointing. Housekeeping: This was our biggest concern. Housekeeping staff were extremely loud in the hallways, repeatedly opening and slamming room doors every few minutes throughout the morning and day. For airline crew who often need to sleep during the day or immediately after arriving from a flight, this is extremely disruptive. Staff need better training and awareness that guests may be resting at all hours. Front desk: The staff look professional, but communication and response to guest concerns were lacking. I reported a strong cigar smell throughout our hallway and later raised the issue with the front desk. There was virtually no acknowledgment—no “thank you for letting us know,” no concern, and no indication that anyone would investigate. Shangri-La Pudong remains a beautiful property, but the level of service and attention to detail is not what we remember from before COVID. Better staff training, quieter housekeeping practices, stronger communication, and improvements to the breakfast would make a significant difference.
We stayed at Pudong Shangri-La during the week between Christmas and New Year 2025 for a family trip, booking two rooms, and we truly enjoyed our stay. The customer service was outstanding from start to finish. The hotel was able to store our luggage before our arrival, and they also collected and delivered all of our packages, which made everything incredibly convenient and stress-free. We especially loved all the beautiful Christmas decorations throughout the hotel—they made our holiday stay feel extra festive and memorable. We also appreciated the excellent service at Jade on 36—the waiter was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making for a wonderful dining experience. The staff at the bar across from the restaurant were also warm and welcoming. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and are looking forward to staying at Pudong Shangri-La again on our next visit to Shanghai. Highly recommended!
