Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao Central

Rooms are smallish and compact. Does not feel like a 4-star hotel because there isn’t a proper cupboard or bathrobes. Luckily shower pressure was good. Aircon in the room was pathetic. So warm. The room couldn’t cool down although I set the temperature at 11C and the fan at max. Every colleague had the same problem with the rooms. Breakfast was on the ground floor and the place is rather tiny. Not impressed with breakfast. I was hoping for good croissants as Mercure is a French chain but alas, not the case. In an international chain, I expect the receptionist to speak English but not so. So I struggle to communicate in mandarin which is my 3rd language. The breakfast receptionist was also very unfriendly when I asked for a takeaway cup in my broken mandarin. She just gave me a death stare.

Hello, this isn’t your typical review. I’m a little seal, and I had quite the adventure during my stay at this hotel 🦭✨ One moment, I was happily resting in the hotel room after a long day out with my human… and the next, I was gone. Swept away with the linens after room service, and I found myself on an unexpected journey to the laundry! Back in the room, my human was heartbroken. I’m not just any toy… I carried years of memories. When the hotel staff heard this, they didn’t treat me like just another lost item. They understood. Even though my human had already checked out, the team didn’t give up on finding me. They searched thoroughly, reached out to their laundry partners, and kept trying. And guess what? They found me! But the story doesn’t end there… Instead of asking my human to return, someone from the hotel personally brought me all the way from the laundry to the airport so I could be reunited before departure. It was my first time sitting in the front seat and fortunately, I got to go home after all 🥹 I may just be a small seal, but I felt incredibly cared for. Thank you to all the staff for treating me (and my human) with so much kindness and heart. You made my stay wonderful. 10/10 would get lost here again (but maybe… not on purpose this time)!

Worst check in experience ever! Room was alright... quite small. Old building... stuff broken in the room when we first arrive.
