What a disgrace of an intercontinental hotel, we booked 4 rooms for me and my adult kids, sadly I wasn't able to travel due to illness. As a diamond elite member of ihg i normally get free breakfast and with my annual lounge pass I get access to the executive lounge As I was not there the management of this hotel treated my kids disrespectfully, and we're given none of the privileges we enjoy in every other ihg hotel worldwide, cost to the hotel would have been minimal, and instead they will not use ihg in the future. They are all gold members of hilton and as such automatically get free breakfast and usually lounge access as well Had I known how badly they would be treated in my absence we would certainly have cancelledall 4 rooms. The attitude of the management is terrible and they certainly have no place in the hospitality industry My advice, choose any other hotel.

Stayed here during a business trip. Room was outdated and could be cleaner but spacious and had everything a traveller would expect in a hotel room. However I felt that the room alleys (walkway from lift to room) is dark with just dim lights. Breakfast was okay and location was generally easy to get a cab or Didi. There are malls and eateries a short ride away by car.
I had a very disappointing experience during check-in due to the behavior of the front desk staff. When I arrived to check in, the employee at the front desk treated me in a dismissive and disrespectful manner that felt discriminatory. Their tone, attitude, and the way they handled my check-in were noticeably different from how other guests were being treated. Instead of providing a welcoming and professional service, the interaction made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. As a paying guest, I expect to be treated with basic respect and professionalism regardless of background. Unfortunately, this experience fell far below that standard. Hospitality should be inclusive and respectful to all guests. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, reviews the incident, and provides proper training to ensure all guests are treated fairly and respectfully in the future.
Our extended stay at the InterContinental Shanghai Expo exceeded expectations, with the exceptional Platinum Ambassador recognition making a genuine difference. Thank you for the room upgrade, which provided stunning river views and really enhanced our stay. The housekeeping team maintained our rooms thoroughly throughout our stay. The buffet breakfast truly stood out - offering remarkable variety and consistently high quality, complemented by attentive service. We particularly appreciated this being included as part of our Platinum Ambassador benefits. The facilities were excellent, especially the well-equipped gym and the wonderful heated swimming pool. The only drawback during our visit was the air-conditioning system, which became locked in "Fan" mode several days into our stay (the "Cool" mode could not be selected). When we inquired, front desk explained it was due to building regulations. While this made our nights rather warm, the staff promptly arranged for a fan to be delivered to our room as a solution. Despite this minor inconvenience, the hotel genuinely felt like a home away from home, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Another issue we encountered during check-out was that our check-out bill was processed in my home currency rather than in Chinese yuan. According to standard payment regulations, hotels ought to ask customers if they want to accept currency conversion at the credit card terminal before processing the payment. I wasn't given this choice, which meant I couldn't decline the conversion rate offered by the hotel and instead use my bank's potentially more favorable rate. This practice (called Dynamic Currency Conversion) typically results in less favorable exchange rates for travelers and should always be optional, not automatic.
My company always stays here every year for the conference at the expo nearby and we've noticed that the service and quality of the hotel have deteriorated over the years. Wears/tears in the room, and the concierge were not friendly and couldn't speak much English, which was challenging for my Caucasian colleagues. There used to be a pillow menu 8-10 years ago, but now the pillows are so flat and too soft, and I need multiple pillows for a night's sleep. I couldn't get a king room even though I wanted to pay more but was allocated to a twin room, and the beds were too soft, sinking in. The corridor is way too dark, it was scary walking down the aisle. I think, overall, the hotel lost its IHG touch and standards. We have decided to not stay there anymore during our annual visit to Shanghai going forward.
