Thieves. They kept my deposit, even though I was told they removed the hold on my deposit when I checked out. Now it’s been almost a month and they ignored my emails and phone calls. I am not sure why Crowne plaza is still associating itself with this old smelly hotel.

The only redeeming quality is the location and the very helpful air conditioning engineers who were responsible and tried to do what they can. The aircon unit broke down on the first night I checked in. It was warm (28-30 degrees!) and despite the engineers checking twice it was not working. Called front desk for change of room. First one told me she will send the engineer to check and if it’s not working they will change the room. After engineered checked and verified it was not, called the front desk again and the other person told me not possible to change room as they were fully booked. Both times both did not sound empathetic or helpful. Only offered to send a fan up. Very very poor service. There are many other hotels along the Nanjing road. This is definitely not 5 star. Deco, furniture and fittings are old. Don’t stay here if you can help it.
A very pleasant 3-day stay at Crowne Plaza Shanghai. Although the hotel has a slightly dated style, it is well maintained with excellent room service and attentive cleaning staff, especially on the 15th floor. Good breakfast, gym, pool, and sauna facilities. Convenient location close to the subway station, shopping malls, and a lively pedestrian area with restaurants, cafés, and bakeries nearby.
Some stays feel routine, others quietly elevate the entire trip. Crowne Plaza Shanghai Nanjing Road by IHG falls into the latter. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt polished and thoughtfully managed. The location itself is a major highlight, right in the heart of Nanjing Road, which makes stepping out into the city incredibly convenient whether for shopping, dining, or simply walking through Shanghai’s most vibrant street. We stayed in the Junior King Suite, and the room felt spacious, well designed, and comfortable in a way that immediately puts you at ease. The layout was practical with a separate sitting area that made it feel more like a private space rather than just a hotel room. Large windows brought in plenty of natural light and offered a beautiful view of the city skyline. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the overall ambiance of the room felt calm despite being in such a busy part of the city. Service was another strong point. The staff were professional, attentive, and quick to respond whenever we needed assistance. Check in was smooth, and everything from housekeeping to room service felt efficient and consistent. It is clear that the hotel maintains a high standard when it comes to guest experience. Small details like prompt cleaning and well maintained facilities made a noticeable difference during the stay. The hotel amenities added to the comfort. The breakfast spread was generous with a mix of international and local options, and the dining area was well organized even during busier hours. The overall atmosphere of the hotel felt modern yet relaxed, making it suitable for both business and leisure travelers. Being located on Nanjing Road also meant easy access to nearby attractions, which made exploring the city much more enjoyable. There were however a couple of minor drawbacks. During peak hours the lobby can get quite busy which sometimes leads to slight delays. Also since it is located in a very active area, there can be a bit of outside noise at times depending on your room placement. Despite that, the comfort of the suite and the quality of service easily balance out these small issues. Overall, the stay felt refined and convenient. The Junior King Suite offered both comfort and space, and the central location made it an excellent base for exploring Shanghai. It is a place that delivers a reliable and elevated experience while keeping everything effortlessly accessible.
The location is simply unbeatable. It’s right in the heart of Shanghai, with everything within walking distance. From the busiest commercial streets to the People’s Square metro station, you have direct access to the entire city. The facilities are very good, clean and well-maintained, and what really stands out is the staff. They are always willing to help and ready to assist with anything you might need. Without a doubt, I would choose to stay here again on my next visit.
