I had the pleasure of experiencing Capella Shanghai, and enchanting hardly begins to do it justice. From the moment we arrived, the team made the stay for myself and my newlywed friends truly unforgettable, turning what was already a special occasion into something far beyond our expectations. A heartfelt thank you to Neo Li, Jim, Lynn, and Anna for their warmth, patience, and thoughtful care prior to our stay. A special mention to Culturist Amber for such a wonderful introduction to the hotel, and the biggest shoutout to Porter Mark for going above and beyond to create an exceptional guest experience. Amber and Mark, in particular, embodied what it means to be gracious hosts in their own home. They welcomed us not merely as guests, but as friends. It is people like you who bring the soul of a hotel to life and make its magic linger long after the stay has ended. Thank you, Capella Shanghai, for making our long overdue reunion and memories together all the more beautiful. ✨

An Exceptional Stay at Capella Shanghai – 15 to 18 October My friends and I chose Capella Shanghai for our getaway from 15 to 18 October, and it turned out to be a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience. The hotel’s Forbes-level hospitality exceeded our expectations in every way. From the beautiful surroundings to the impeccable service, every detail made our stay extra special. One of the highlights was the Capella Culture experience, thoughtfully arranged for us. We had such a wonderful time with the black-and-white photography session, our first experience wearing traditional Chinese qipao, and the lovely hands-on sachet-making activity. These unique cultural experiences added so much charm to our trip and gave us beautiful memories to cherish with our friends. A very special thank-you to Amos, the Singaporean trainee, who touched our hearts with his warmth and sincerity. When he found out during our conversation that we were visiting from Singapore, he made us feel an extra sense of familiarity and connection. His thoughtful attention, genuine care, and dedication to making us feel welcome truly stood out. He is a wonderful ambassador for Capella Shanghai! Our heartfelt thanks also go to the wonderful spa team, the hardworking housekeeping ladies who kept our room spotless and comfortable, the young gentlemen who helped us with our luggage, and all the lovely ladies at the front desk. Every one of you contributed to making our stay smooth, relaxing, and memorable. What makes a luxury hotel truly exceptional is not only its beautiful setting or world-class facilities, but also the warmth, sincerity, and personal touches of its people. Capella Shanghai has certainly delivered all of these. Thank you to the entire Capella Shanghai team for making our trip with friends so special. We left with happy hearts, beautiful memories, and a deep appreciation for your outstanding hospitality. We look forward to returning and experiencing your wonderful service again! Highly recommended for anyone seeking a truly memorable luxury stay in Shanghai. ❤️
We had a fantastic stay at Capella Shanghai. The hotel was beautiful, and the service was exceptional throughout our stay. Everyone was incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive. A special mention goes to Matthew, who was particularly kind and helpful and really made our experience memorable. We also had so much fun trying on the qipao provided by the hotel—it was such a lovely and unique touch that made our stay even more special. Thank you to Matthew and the entire Capella team for the wonderful hospitality. We truly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back! From Sowon
Service and attention to detail throughout the hotel **chef’s kiss Rooms are multi level, which might not be for everyone. Bar and the connecting patisserie were excellent.
I came to Capella Shanghai with very high expectations, especially after it was ranked among the best hotels in the world. The property itself is quite unique — there are no traditional rooms, only private townhouses. The location is also quite far from the main city areas, which made getting around less convenient than expected. On the positive side, the overall atmosphere is very cozy, intimate, and beautifully designed — it feels more like a private residence than a hotel. That said, the hotel overall felt quite dull. There isn’t much to do, see, or even eat on the property, which made the stay feel a bit limited. The spa was alright, but not amazing — again, not quite what you’d expect from a hotel of this caliber. There were also several disappointments. The room service food was genuinely awful, which is surprising for a hotel of this level. The lobby seating area only serves tea or the same limited room service menu, so there aren’t many casual dining options within the property. The boulangerie is lovely in concept, but by the afternoon it’s completely sold out, making it difficult to actually enjoy unless you go very early. The only other dining option is a very formal French restaurant, which doesn’t always suit every mood or time of day. Breakfast was also below average, which was unexpected given the brand’s reputation. Overall, I was expecting much more from a brand like Capella, often considered one of the leading — if not the best — luxury hotel brands in Asia. While the design and ambiance are beautiful, the overall experience didn’t match the level of excellence I was anticipating.
