We booked wrong tour in Spanish, oops. Well our guide did her best to explain what she could. Neat site!! Very detailed features to see. My husband liked it more than all the Cathedrals we have see. Go figure!
Italica is worth seeing. Very informative and a great slice of history. You really got a sense of the arena and the Roman settlement. Afterwards we toured a monastery which to ne was unnecessary and completely unrelated.
We attended a tour earlier this week and were a bit disappointed given we had purchased specifically due to our interest in Game of Thrones. Italica and the Ampitheater were fine but lacked any discussion of GOT. The second stop at the Monastery was the surprising highlight of the trip. I thought the guide we had was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful but it was not the tour we expected.
Coming from Australia, I found the history of Italica amazing. Seeing actual ruins from the 2nd century is awesome . Great tour I had a wonderful time and as I am an older female solo traveller I would recommend it to other solo travellers.
I can’t even give this a star as we were so disappointed. Oversold and totally underwhelmed. We have done the GoT in Dubrovnik and that was fantastic. We went to the Italia film set but no information what so ever about GOT nothing! We think that we were lumped with a tour of people who booked to see Italia and rather than lose money company sent us on the tour. Don’t waste your money and opt for another tour. The tour is sold as film sets of GOT heading says film sets plural but you see one and that’s pushing it. After you are taken to a monestry that is nothing to do with the tv show! Currently asking for refund from your company Viator are aware of out dissatisfaction . I have done 30 trips with viator and never been disappointed up until now!
This was a great tour. The sites are only 20-30 minutes away fro Seville by bus. It was interesting learning about Rome’s first settlement in Spain. Carlos, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable. The Emperors Hadrian and Trajan were both born here. The monastery was also interesting. Two little notes though. This isn’t really a Game of Thrones filming site tour. The guide mentioned quickly on our way out: “oh, by the way, the arena was the site of the dragon pit in Game of Thrones”. This wasn’t a big deal to me since I was really there for the Roman ruins, but I can imagine that someone specifically signing up for a Game of Thrones tour might be disappointed. The other thing is that despite Trip Advisor’s lowest price guarantee, the tour was about $10 cheaper if bought through the tour operator. I contacted Viatour (Trip Advisor booked the tour through them), and submitted a claim through their lowest price guarantee process, and a refund of the difference was provided promptly.
I absolutely loved the tour guide. She was amazing and very informative. The tour was fantastic, educational and as a GOT (Game of Thrones) fan a dream come true.
Really enjoyable few hours spent at Italica. It’s a fascinating place and being able to get so close to the stadium and the town was amazing. Our guide, Jesus, was a real highlight. He was knowledgeable and really entertaining. And was able to field questions in several languages.
The negatives: they cancelled our trip and only contacted us via WhatsApp (something we don’t have) to let us know. On the day of we waited and waited at the departure point. We also “lost time” so to speak having planned for this trip. The positives: they processed our refund very quickly (in full) and we’re very polite and friendly about it. Note to management: make sure to contact guests via email - not only WhatsApp!
Get the bus from Seville €1.60 each way.Take a sun hat sun cream and bottle of water! Entrance is free. Great to wander around this arcealogical site with many restoration works going on to the mosaics. Visualise GOT this is where they filmed part of last season . Watch the free video in room to right as you enter the site.
We thoroughly enjoyed our half-day trip to Italica. Our guide, Miguel, made the history of this Roman city come alive. The site is large and well managed. I found the anticlimactic Monastery tour and pit stop for a taste of local wine to be superfluous. Nonetheless, we whole-heartedly recommend the tour.
We booked this tour as we are big Game of Thrones fans and it sounded great. However, once we got to Italica, it soon become obvious that this was just a historical tour of the Roman ruins, and this was later confirmed by the guide. There was no mention of Game of Thrones at all during the whole tour. This was despite the fact that our printed ticket, which the guide inspected and scanned as we boarded the bus, specifically stated GAME OF THRONES TOUR in large letters! We are trying to claim our money back from Viator. If you have booked this tour, check what you're going to get before you go!
We went on this tour of a Roman site without knowing it was a Game of Thrones filming location. I'm a fan of Roman stuff and GoT, and so the latter was a welcome bonus. The trip was quick, cheap, fun and informative, and was led by a friendly, bubbly guide who provided information in Spanish and English. A two-hour-tour (including a 15-minute bus ride each way) didn't seem very long at first, but given the 37 degree days in June, it turned out to be just right.
We went on a rainy day without a guide. There was still a lot of renovation work so we must ave missed a lot. Still, I recommend it. There is an easy and cheap way to get there by bus.
We did the tour of Italica , I was only going because my husband fancied the tour.. Well changed my mind!! Loved it. Our tour guide Isabella was brilliant 😀.. I have to say would be rubbish without a guide, she was great . I who am not a sightseer thoroughly enjoyed it. Top trip. 👍🏼
Went to the italica site. Some of the art was amazing and unbelievably preserved. It was great to see the site which Game of Thrones was filmed. If you get chance try to wonder off a little and see the sights the tour guide will not show.
We recently went on a tour of italica near seville.the weather was bad on the day but the guide did a brilliant job of explaining the history of italica.a totally recommended trip for anyone wanting to study Roman history.
great little tour to do whilst in seville, stunning mosaics and a real sense of history-also great game of thrones location-all only a ten minute ride from seville.A special mention to jonathon our guide, extremely enthusiastic and a nice guy!p.s jonathon, next time in england come to brighton!
It was amazing to be there feel your self 2100 years ago. It was also nice to see the game of throne location 😉.
Rental of a small car at the Centauro agency at Seville station (Santa Justa): vehicle reserved 1 month in advance on their site from Toulouse and without ever being asked for a credit card number. Very professional welcome and remarkable service. Very reasonable price with comprehensive insurance. Just a deposit of 121 Euros to pay in addition to bring the car back with a full tank. This deposit was refunded in less than 2 days after return of the vehicle as agreed. I highly recommend this agency.
Fantastic excavations b.C. – Teenagers are very well activated by GoT and the fantasy of antiquity is as snapped on. You hear the Romans talking and you see them bathing. In the gigantic amphitheatre, it becomes incredible ... only Drogon is immediately in play.
The place has seemed wonderful, the real pity has been the guide (Carlos), first of all I have paid for a route in Spanish and we have been joined with English-speaking people, of 30 people approx. Only 7 Spanish, a tremendous disorganization, we mixed all the time and we were not understood either in Spanish or English. I think I should have been informed first about the history of Italica, because it told nonsense, it was repeated a lot and honestly I have not understood absolutely anything of the beautiful place I have visited. I feel totally cheated and disappointed, I am left with the feeling that I have wasted my money and especially my time, I could have used the four and a half hours in something better.
Itálica was in 3. In the 19th century AD, the first Roman city in Spain was founded outside the Italian territory. The amphitheatre is remarkably well preserved and was used as a filming location for the 7th edition. Season of the series *Game of Thrones used. What is there to see? In the Roman town of Itálica there are amazingly well-preserved mosaics, remains of the ancient main thermal baths and many more ruins of houses and temples. The wide cobblestone streets are still very well preserved. It is said to be the third largest amphitheatre in the Roman Empire, it could accommodate 25,000 visitors. The visit is free for EU citizens. By bus from Seville we paid only 1.60€ per trip and took about 25 minutes. Line 172 departs from the bus station every 30 minutes. Bus platform 42. Tickets are purchased from the driver. But watch the departure information signs. Sometimes the bus platform number changes
We spent a whole morning shooting x this site and ,sincerely, coming from Rome,we did not have high expectations...instead it is rich in wonderful mosaics, well preserved, and,an amphitheater that recalls the Colosseum in miniature...the site is free....and you get there with a public bus at 1.60 each way.!
It has been a unique experience. Thanks to our guide Rocio who has made the excursion very enjoyable and fun with anecdotes. A trip to Roman times and above see the meeting place of the 7 Kingdoms (JDT), 10 minutes from the center of Seville. Unmissable.
Short trip but sufficient to get a good insight into the Roman history around Seville. Shootings of Game of Thrones so you'll see some landmarks back. But especially nice to get an idea of how the Romans lived.
Not only was it free admission, it was also so nicely groomed! It was well preserved and a very worth seeing place! So beautiful, will have this place in my memory for the rest of my life. An incredible place with a lot of history! Something on the minus side was that there were too few info-texts and also they were in Spanish so it was a bit boring because you did not understand. But clearly a place worth seeing!!!
