Itinerary
The Tower was built in the 14th century, precisely in the medieval period, as part of the defensive walls of the city of Alghero. This is the only remaining part of the city walls on the land side, which were completely demolished after 1867. A good way to start our exploration
The church of San Francesco is one of the most significant examples of Gothic-Catalan architecture in Sardinia. Built by the Conventual Friars Minor at the end of the 15th century, the church stands on the site of a small chapel preceded by a vegetable garden. The building is part of a complex that also includes the convent, the cloister and the bell tower. Let's discover it's story!
The Archaeological Museum of Alghero, also commonly known as “Musa”, is located in a 15th-16th century building in the heart of the city’s historic center, next to the church of S. Michele. The museum’s collection includes finds that testify to the first human settlements in the area, from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages, discovered during excavations both inside and outside the urban center.
The Church of Saint Michael is one of the main places of worship in Alghero and one of the most important examples of Baroque art in Sardinia. Its famous dome, one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.
The Tower of San Giovanni, built in sandstone in the 16th century, is a notable example of the Catalan-Aragonese style. Let's discover its history and some legends !
Here we are in one of the main cultural attractions of the city, located right in the heart of the historic center. Alghero has always been known as the “City of Coral” for the tradition of working with red coral that dates back centuries. The museum celebrates and preserves this artisan tradition, showing the evolution of coral as an ornamental and symbolic material in the local culture.
The Sperone Tower takes its name from the presence of an adjacent rocky spur, which was part of the city’s network of fortifications. This tower is called by several names, one of which is Torre de l’Esperó Reial in Catalan.
Located at the end of the Bastioni Cristoforo Colombo, the Tower of Saint James stands out for its unmistakable octagonal shape. Built in the 16th century in homage to King James I the Conqueror, it features architectural details of Catalan inspiration, such as the niche at the entrance and the spiral staircase that leads to the lower level.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria in Alghero is the main ecclesiastical monument of the city, one of the gems of north-west Sardinia. If you look at Alghero from the sea, beyond the port and the city walls, you will notice the shape of the bell tower of Santa Maria. Let's discover more!
The Tower of St. Elmo is one of the main defensive towers of the city, located in the heart of the historic center, near the sea. It was built in the 16th century during the period of Spanish fortifications, to protect the city from enemy incursions, especially pirates .

Great guide. Really helpful. I found it on booking.com.
First class walking talk. Lots of interesting information and very easy to use guide which is sent directly to your phone.
Great walking tour I could take at my own pace, stopping when I wanted to and taking as long as I liked at each stop. Commentary was informative and interesting. Great value for money. I struggled downloading the tour but I suspect this has more to do with my IT skills than anything else.
Nice and very informative tour of Alghero.
This self guided tour takes some work and we were tired so we didn’t complete. Perhaps a map with directions would help.
Avoid this walking audio tour if you can! It is difficult to start and then cumbersome to use. You have to keep scrolling back and forth between the map and the individual sections. The map doesn’t show your location and the descriptions are not particularly interesting and engaging.
Excellent guide, being able to go at our own pace was great but we couldn’t download one of the guides onto a Samsung phone, the one on the iPhone worked well though so we had to share a pair of ear pods. It would have been good to be able to swap back and forth to the map, but that just may be me not being tech savvy enough 😆
There's pictures, maps, written and oral information so you really can personalise the tour but I couldn't get the hang of using the map to seamlessly guide me from one point of interest to the next. So I was toggling between the guide and Google maps which was a pain. Otherwise good.
Positives: The maps overlay is nice, so you always know where to go. The route on the Seebären is well organized. You when to listen to which part. The Author is very enthusiastic in the audio files. Cons: The tour is kind of boring. The information is very generic. It feels like it was constructed by AI. I would suggest a in person guided tour if you can get one.
We loved learning about the history of Alghero with the walking guide. It was thorough and easy to use. The food recommendations were helpful too.
The information about each stop was terrific but moving between the audio guide and google maps was very difficult and frustrating. Perhaps we weren’t aware that there was a better way
Great way to spend a day and get your bearings in a new city! Only downfall was its heavily reliant on having internet and in several places o lost connection completely most likely due to the old medieval walls of the city. Really easy to use and great information too! Loved being able to stop and take a break from the heat as needed or spread out over a day or two! Would highly recommend!!
Fabulous-information provided was excellent and easy to follow.Great details provided if you required more information and we enjoyed adding the coral museum to look around.Very impressed and superb price.
Just follow instructions and don’t hesitate to ask for advise on WhatsApp We found our way around on day one, then revisited the places we wanted to on day 2.
Great way to do a walking tour, you can go at your own pace & stay as long as you want at each stop, also great explanations of local dishes & restaurant recommendations at the end
The tour guides us around the old town very well. Slight problem viewing the map and listening to audio, coujdnt be done together.
Original tour concept. I like the feeling of freedom and the explanations are clear.
I didn't like it, very poor, and then it worked in pieces.
Nice tour through Alghero with good information about the places visited.
High temperature inappropriate for a walking tour.Thecologically cumbersome, an itinerary that I can print in advance and access to texts that I can also print would have been enough for more flexibility.
It's a hoax. The guide didn't show up after waiting an hour and didn't pick up messages or phone witnesses.
The app would not let me use audio guide.I contacted by watsapp and they speak to me in English. They didn't solve my problem.I had to communicate with whoever created the journey and through a link use another way.I lost more than an hour to be able to fix something.
The guide was very helpful to explore the old town of Alghero quickly and informatively. Many thanks to Matteo!
Excellent option to know Alghero, perfect explanations and suggestions as well as the connection with Google Maps. Highly recommended.
Very useful to travel at your own pace. It is easy to follow the route and both audios and texts are well done
I found it a very good method to do a walking tour of any city and it should be implemented in more cities. The audio guide is accompanied by an interactive map in Google maps that allows you to reach the monuments easily and once there listen to the comments of each of them. This audio guide allows you to make the tour at your own pace and at any time. Both the comments and the duration of the tour are adequate. I wish there were more audio guides for other cities. I am a big consumer of tours to visit the cities and I have to say that I like this system better than guided tours since you have to adapt to fixed schedules that you can not always meet and also some get a bit heavy.
Simple explanation of the city and its monuments. It does not add much about because Catalan is spoken here and how it survives in local people.
the fact of moving independently with times decided by us is priceless, a few more measures to facilitate access to the service.
Walking cap is a very successful app. You find the described sights very good and the descriptions are extensive
