Santorini Wine Tour: 2 Wineries With Tastings & Local Snacks

Beginning of October and I decided to organize a visit to Santorini island with a small group of 5 people, where the main attraction would be the Mini Wine Tour by Wineland. Yiannis the company owner was our tour guide. The words cannot describe the excellence in the experience of the service we received! Walking through vineyards, next to Santorini’s 300 years old “kouloures” with average 7-8 meters long roots, amazing wines chosen by the expert, explained in the most descriptive way and paired with the right local cheeses, marmalades, bread sticks, small cooked dishes and so many more.. and above all Yiannis had this Greek charm, one of the most unique feelings called “filoxenia”=treating you like being member of his family, where he was like the 6th friend of our small group, making the whole experience, extraordinaire!

We had an excellent time. Yiannis is an exceptional sommelier and extremely knowledgeable about both the history of the vineyards and wine industry here, and about the country. We learned about the growing of the vines, were able to see grapes drying in the sun to improve the quality and flavor of some wines and see the interior of 2 wineries. He taught us about the different aromas and flavors of the wines and paired them with different cheeses and snacks. Yiannis explained the process of making wine and explained some distinctive aging techniques. We had an enjoyable and informative experience. We highly recommend this tour! He even found us some fresh figs on the way which was a great bonus for me!

Yesterday we had our wine tour with Wineland Tours and we were excited to find out about winemaking in Santorini and taste the island’s selection of wines. Yannis was super friendly yet professional, shared information in a way even us first-time wine drinkers can understand and left room for us to ask questions. Nikos provided the premium experience with his vast knowledge from the vine to the very last drop wine. He is extremely accommodating and a people person. For example, he even gave us an extra 20 min to roam around Santos to take in all its glory with a suggested glass of wine from him.
