This was the fourth Secret Food Tour that we experienced and we were very excited when we discovered the tour was now available in Santiago. We try and book the tour shortly after arriving in a city; it helps you get a feeling for the area and the guides provide a cultural background which is so beneficial. Our guide, Badia, was exceptional. Badia was professional, friendly, he spoke excellent English and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of food, its origins and where to go for the best offerings.

Itinerary
Santiago's historic covered market, where the tour's guide reads the stalls like a regular to pick out the fresh, local ingredients behind the day's tastings.
The city's founding square, built for defense rather than beauty, and the starting point for tracing how Santiago's food history unfolds outward from its historic core.
The cathedral anchoring the Plaza de Armas, rebuilt after earthquakes just like the culinary traditions the tour follows, layered and reconstructed generation after generation.
One of downtown Santiago's oldest churches, standing as a marker of the Spanish colonial era that first brought stews and Old World cooking to the Chilean table.
Housed on the Plaza de Armas, this museum holds the deeper history behind the dishes tasted on the tour, from Indigenous corn to colonial-era staples.
The former governor's palace turned central post office, a downtown landmark that frames the historic backdrop for the tour's opening stops.
A colonial-era basilica in the historic downtown, another example of the city's cycle of earthquake damage and rebuilding that mirrors its layered food story.
The hill separating downtown from Lastarria, marking the shift the tour makes from colonial history to the immigrant flavors of the heritage neighbourhood beyond it.
The heritage neighbourhood where the tour's later stops unfold, home to the Completo Italiano hot dog, German-influenced cheese, and Chile's once-thought-extinct French grape.
A historic parish near Lastarria, adding another layer of colonial-era heritage to the streets the tour walks through on its way to the neighbourhood's food stops.
A tree-lined park bordering Lastarria, offering a scenic stretch of the walk between the tour's historic downtown stops and its heritage-neighbourhood tasting
A modern cultural center near Lastarria, showing how Santiago's food story keeps evolving even as the tour ties each bite back to the past.

Badia was a wonderful guide! The food was delicious too. We really enjoyed it.
Our tour guide, Juan, (Pablo) was outstanding! We lucked out as it was just the two of us with him for the day. He was super knowledgeable and fun to be with, very down to earth. He also gave us the chance to stop into some other little spots and take pics along the way. We had so much food!!! Fun trying all the local items with a local!
Badia Ali was an excellent tour guide!! we loved each and every I restaurant he took us too, he taught us a little bit about every single Chilean dish we ate. Thank you so very much for allowing us to have such a wonderful day. We met some great people that were on the tour as well. Thank you so much, Badia!!
Pablo was awesome. He is, most importantly, a great guy, but he also has a deep knowledge of the food, culture and city and is passionate about his country. Worth the price of admission just to hang with him. The tour is fine, but Pablo makes you feel like you’re part of Santiago, at least for the day.
