The War of the Pacific in the 1880's was a major punctuation point in the history of Chile. The Chilean armed forces, anchored by the Navy, eventually triumphed over Bolivia and Peru. Chile seized land in the north with valuable mineral resources (saltpeter and copper), trashed Lima, and pushed Bolivia back from the seacoast into land locked status. Anyone wondering about whether these successes are important and well-remembered should spend some time looking up this quite impressive monument to the victory and its leaders. The monument also serves as a focal point of Sotomayor Square and can be seen from many of the surrounding hills.
This National Monument is a nineteenth century castle that currently serves as a cultural center.

The first and largest casino in Chile offers games and entertainment for all ages.
Renaca is reached from Vina del Mar in the south by a coastal road. To the rear of the main town and ocean front the town rises quickly with many steep roads. Shops bars and restaurants aplenty. The beach sandy and clean with a nice promenade.

The monument, covered in Italian marble, is surmounted by a British Victorian lion and is decorated with the images of four Britons who participated in the Chilean War of Independence.
Nice square commemorating the important literary history of the city. Very nice architecture around and some lovely gardens. Nice stop-over point on the way to Pablo Neruda's house. Shake hands with a statue. Put your arm around another.
This place is unique in many ways. The buildings are very european and the views are splendind. There are many stores and restaurants, aswell as lovely picture stops and lovely artcrafts sold all over the place.
The Museum of Archeology and History Francisco Fonck, founded in 1937, is a varied and complete museum that shows objects of the original peoples of Chile: highlighting its large collection of the Rapanui culture, the Atacameños, Diaguitas, Mapuches, inhabitants of the area central and extreme austral, in addition to a wide collection of Peruvian pre-Columbian vessels. In the area of Natural Sciences there is a complete sample of arthropods and animals from different areas of the country.
This statue was brought in from Easter Island. It is extremely interesting. It is fun to take pictures standing by this statue. It makes you wonder about its original creators. It also entices people to want to visit Easter Island.
Pablo Neruda's house is one of the talked about destinations at Valparaiso. Its a small house on top of Cerro Bellavista.. It houses a museum showing glimpses of Pablo Neruda's life & offers a vantage point to look out over the city. There are shops outside the house that one can pick up pretty magnets from, & a quaint plaza closeby which has steps with beautiful mosaic.

Every visitor to the area should visit this iconic spot. Even on a not so sunny day its very picturesque.
Artilleria appears to be the Valparaiso ascensor with the most reviews. It also probably has the best views from the top and the stroll back down is very nice too.
One of the many elevator lines that take folks up and down the hills. Very practical in this very vertical city.
This is the oldest funicular in Valparaíso. The view is wonderful, even if you can see daylight through the floorboards. It is a real local experience!

Do not book this tour—it was a complete nightmare. I have booked private tours through Viator all over the world, and this driver and guide was by far the worst experience we have ever had. We booked a private tour for our family of six because my dad is a slow walker, and we wanted to ensure a good experience for him. Instead, our guide/driver, Jaime, was lazy, barely spoke, and rushed through everything. It felt like he was annoyed to be with us. He walked ten times faster than our group and grew irritated whenever we wanted to stop or ask a question. While the Valparaíso portion was okay, Viña del Mar was a disaster. He took us to a restaurant where lunch took two and a half hours, and then claimed we ran out of time for anything else. He just drove us around, completely denying us the chance to take photos or buy souvenirs. My dad even asked to see the festival concert grounds, and Jaime flat-out refused. To make matters worse, Jaime insisted on taking photos with his own phone instead of ours, promising to send them later. After multiple texts, he completely ignored us and never sent them. We love printing travel albums, and now we have zero photos of our family in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. This was a total waste of time and money—it feels like both were stolen from us. It is a shame, as this is the first time we have ever had such an awful experience.

Highly recommended trip! Julio, the driver, provided a very safe and smooth ride, which was greatly appreciated on the road. On the other hand, Pablo Rayo was an exceptional guide: he explained everything clearly, showed great knowledge, and had a wonderful sense of humor that made the tour super interesting. We even left with a prize at the end!
I have just finished my tour with pablo and hose and it was nothing short of fantastic. We enjoyed a day of exploring vina del mar and Valparais seeing the creative wall art and learning about the history. We tried delicious local goodies and even met the friendly street dogs (which are looked after well by the local community). Pablo was personable yet organised and made us all laugh! Thank you again.
Very well-organised tour with a punctual pick-up in the morning. I particularly appreciated the WhatsApp group, which made it easy to stay updated. Jose, our driver, was professional and friendly, the drive was safe and comfortable. Pablo Rayo was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable, witty, and with a great sense of humour. He kept everything running smoothly and on time while making the day both informative and very enjoyable. The itinerary was well planned and gave us the opportunity to see several places in one day without feeling rushed. The only part I didn’t particularly enjoy was the breakfast stop in Casablanca. Overall, a very enjoyable trip and good value. I would happily recommend it to anyone looking to see more of the region in a day. Thank you Pablo&Jose
What a wonderful experience ❤️ Had a lovely day and really enjoyed the tour. Highlight of the tour was our amazing guide Mr Rayo, communication was clear anf timely, every aspect of his work was handled with care and professionalism. Highly recommend. Thank you Mr Pablo Rayo and our driver Mr Julio..
We booked a private tour in order to give us extra time for wine tasting and seeing Valparaiso. We specifically arranged to have the tasting at the end of the day. However, our guide did not get that information. He adapted at our request/demand, but the only place we stopped for wine tasting is the one at which all tours stop--a place with FREE tasting and lousy wines. We found the stop at Vina del Mar to be a waste of time. Our guide was very nice and informative.
Be careful! Description of tour is misleading! The only thing the tour does is transport you from hotel to Valparaiso and Viña Del Mar
Very well organized and at a good pace. Ignacio, our guide is very a very kind and patient person, extremely helpful and friendly, hearing out every guest and going beyond to offer his help.
Our driver cancelled at the last minute and provided no other alternative. Very disappointing that we never had the tour
This was an amazing trip! Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar are beautiful towns and should not be missed. We loved seeing the whimsical side of Valparaiso contrasted to the resort feel of Vina Del Mar. Our guide, Giovanni, was exceptional. He was so accommodating to every request, plus he was entertaining and an absolute wealth of information about the two cities and Chile in total. His English was quite good, making it easy to have a conversation during the entire trip.
Jesus was our guide for this trip to Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar and passing through Casablanca Valley. He explained all the details and took us to all the important tourist spots including lunch at a great place in Vina Del Mar.
Excellent experience! We were 6 family Pax. The tour was really amazing, we could enjoy the sightseeing day looking at beautiful landscapes along the way . Congrats Christian 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This tour was fabulous. I just went through the pictures again and the fond memories gave me a smile. We walked the streets of Vino del Mar in awe. The colorful buildings were amazing. Plus the views were breath taking. Our guide drove us around the town and we made stops along the way for pictures. We ate a t a locale restaurant, Taberna Oscar, with a versatile menu. The food was very good. Then we took a trip in a funicular. Very fun, great views. We also stopped at a local store for a traditinal iced treat. Then we went to a beautiful Casa Valle Winery. Pulling into the drive was amazing.. The inside did not let down either, a gorgeous interior. We did a wine tasting on the patio. It could not have been a prettier day and the tasting was memorable. We had a wonderful tour. Murieldid a fabulous job of giving us a good view of the city and hit all of the areas we were interested in. Thanks for understanding what we wanted to see and going over in the delivery!
We had an excellent driver, and an excellent guide. I agree with an earlier reviewer that everything went well. An interesting day out, with variety.
Valparaiso was. It's nothing like the photos. There is so much graffiti everywhere it's had to see the art from with the graffiti.
We enjoyed the tour very much. Our guide, Jhodad, said it was his time time guiding in English. He did very well indeed. He was also very personable, knowing most of the people in the tour by name! The part we love most was the walking tour of the old town on the hill
Our tour and guide were sub par. Our guide was late and we waited in front of our meeting place for him to show up. When he drove up, he didn't even get out of the car. Instead, he stuck his head out the window of the car and told us he was our guide. The car was filthy and hadn't been cleaned. He wove in and out of traffic on the way to Valparaiso. At the wine stop, I asked what wines I should try. He answered:"white wine." I asked what variety- he said "white." The winery had red, pink and a ghastly blue wines. He wove in and out of traffic, speeding until we said something. His answer: "Don't worry, I want to see my son..." There was no water offered- I would have thought this was a standard. It got hot on the drive back- asked for the AC to be turned on and he said "I'm low on gas." Only after finding a gas station did he turn on the AC. We drove past sites and he would say this is the military academy-- but no other info. I could have looked on a map and gotten that myself.
Our guide, Ricardo, was very knowledgeable and friendly.. he was very accommodating to our needs because all of the reviews said that the wine tasting was totally inappropriate at 10:30 AM. So we asked him if we could skip that part and he willingly obliged and took us on a road tour of the wine region instead. This was perfect for us. He had a lunch place picked out which was quite nice and it was right on the beach. Seeing all the hills and paintings in Valparaiso was a great part of our trip. Actually, the street artwork was worth the entire trip!
Great tour and guide. Very attentive. Very good with kids and knowledgeable with chile overall information
We had an exceptional day with Erick, our incredibly knowledgeable tour guide. From the moment he picked us up in his very comfortable Mercedes Vito van, he made sure our entire experience was tailored to our preferences. Having previously done the Viña del Mar and Valparaíso tour—which was fantastic—we wanted to explore different areas this time. Erick was more than happy to accommodate our request and customize the itinerary accordingly. It was a wonderful day, and we highly recommend this company, especially if you’re lucky enough to have Erick as your guide.
This is the worst our I have ever had, the driver was 30 mins late. Then the itinerary that was purchased wasn't what was received. When I reached out yo the Tour Operator MTO I was told they will review and get back to me. I never heard back from them and when I tried to reach them my number was blocked. I spent almost $500.00 for a trip that the itinerary and what was promised was never delivered. Please don't book with this tour Operator.
Excellent day tour of Valparaiso. Jhodad our tour guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Well organized, safe and great site seeing walking tour. Great value. Thanks Jhorad !
Juan was the most knowledgeable and friendly guide you can ever ask for. Our flight was delayed and he patiently waited for us to be ready. Had us stop at a local bakery and we discovered local delicacies. Valpairiso was nice for pictures but it was the winery at the end of the day that made our day! Fully sustainable winery with excellent tour and tasting in English.
Jose was amazing, taking us to places and providing us with good information, compensating the rainy day. We couldn’t get to a vinery due to time and weather, but his was so considerable about my mom’s restrictions due to age, that it wasn’t a problem. He also suggested us a great restaurant! He also found us a nice spot to have our food by the sea!
Great day out. Ignacio was a really helpful and knowledgeable guide. Would definitely recommend. Valparaiso was a fascinating city.
We had a memorable, fun time with our tour guide Alexis . He was funny, entertaining, spoke English & explained everything in detail . We asked many questions , he was always patient & answered us with details & ensuring that we understood. He created a great atmosphere on the trip & made it easy for us to interact with other tourists from across the globe . Alexis was the best tour guide we had so far. It was well worth the trip. We highly recommend this tour if Alexis is your tour guide. .
Had a great experience with Jaime, so knowledgeable, so friendly, and an excellent choice of stops along the way. Highly recommended !
The tour guide was very informative and explained the towns and stops clearly with the history background. It was not an easy task to master !
Had a wonderful tour with very friendly & joyful Jaime as Driver/Guide. He is very informative & kept the group updated with all the significance of the places visited. He walked with us & helped in taking photos introducing best angles for photo taking. Enjoyed the tour & beautiful places. Highly recommend.
We really enjoyed spending time with Alex, he was a great guy to talk with and enjoy time together. This tour has the potential to be great but unfortunately it did not meet our expectations. At the start of the day, Alex asked us what we were most excited to see and we said that we wanted to focus the tour on Valparaiso. However, it seemed the tour was designed with a lunch reservation at 2pm in mind so that the tour guides could receive kickbacks from a restaurant they clearly have a relationship with. What this meant in practice is that we spent most of our day in Viña del Mar as they tried to delay us moving on with the tour so they could meet this lunch reservation. We were given 45minutes to look at a clock made out of flowers, and no freedom to say we wanted to move on faster (as they drove off to the car park to try and slow us down). The delay tactics frustrated us and when we arrived at the restaurant it was clear to see it was designed for tour groups. The car park was full to the brim with tour busses. It had reached 2:15pm and we were yet to have eaten lunch or see any of Valparaiso. At this point we told them we did not want to have this lunch and we would be happy to pick up an empanada on the route. If we had honoured this reservation then we would have likely only had 10mins in Valparaiso by the time we needed to drive back to Santiago. We finally made it to Valparaiso just short of 3pm. It was disappointing to us that we only had 1h in the UNESCO world heritage site and about 2-3h in Vina del Mar, especially when we had explicitly said at the start of the day we wanted to see Valparaiso above everything else. It is also worth noting that the wine tasting in Casablanca valley is a service station offering free samples. This tour has the potential to be great, and the guys running it are super cool and nice. My advice if you book this tour is to be crystal clear at the start of the day that you do not want to go to the restaurant reservation, and you are happy to pick up something on route. This is also a totally reasonable expectation given lunch isn’t included in the tour price and there are plenty of cheap non-touristy options around. This also means that they won’t delay your tour schedule to suit the kick backs they get from the restaurant and you’ll get to spend more time seeing what you actually paid for in the tour description. I am sharing this honest feedback because we liked Alex so much and want to be constructive. Thanks again Alex for spending so much time with us and being a great guy!
Disappointed. Driver shows up in very dirty small red car. We were nervous to get in as other tours at hotel were offering clean white vans. We still went since this was our only day we could schedule this tour. Not as advertised. The itinerary on website sounds great. We saw some of the sites. Our guide, although very pleasant, didn't educate us well on what we were seeing. He was a freelance tour guide for company so I don't think he was trained for this specific tour. We mostly drove by places and didn't go in. Would have been nice to go inside buildings we were allowed to go into. Description of tour says "admission not included" on certain buildings which suggests that we could have gone in. Missed opportunities.
Our much anticipated private tour was cancelled the night before with the excuse that the car which was booked for us "had mechanical issues". We had since learned that this has happened to others after reading reviews. My advice would be to look elsewhere. I feel that the demand for this tour was high and despite booking months in advance for this experience we got "bumped".
Our guide/driver Luis was very nice, was full of information and was continuously sharing it, but his English was not quite up to our expectation, and the tour was not as expected or described. We were spoiled the day before, having had a guide with excellent English. At the 09:00 pickup, we were told we would stop for the wine tasting in about an hour, on the way to Valparaiso. I mention that 10:00 seemed a bit early for a wine tasting, and asked if we could do it on the way back from Valparaiso. When told it would complicate the schedule if we changed it, I said to proceed as planned. The so-called wine tasting was a joke. We stopped at a wine supermarket (full of people off several tour buses parked in front) and were taken to a lady by a barrel, with a few wines we could sample. The samples were 10 ml or 1/3 ounce at most. I told Luis this was not what was described or expected. The description said "Wine and Food tasting", so we expected to be sitting at a table and be offered some finger food along with some glasses of different wines to sample, like many other wine tastings we have previously done. We showed Luis pictures from our previous Casablanca wine tasting in 2016. Instead we were now taken to a tourist trap where the tour operators are likely rewarded for bringing in customers. Luis said he was just doing as the tour operator he worked for had instructed, but would contact them. From hear, we went to Valparaiso. Lots of commentary from Luis on the way, but we were frustrated at not always understanding it. In Valparaiso, several sites were pointed our as we drove by. The bulk of the time went to an interesting walking tour through an older part of town with lots of murals on the buildings. We would never have gone there on our own, and enjoyed seeing the murals and the area. Luis was at his best explaining the meaning of these murals. After lunch at a restaurant with a wonderful view (and prices accordingly), we were told we would stop on the way back to Santiago for a (presumably) proper wine tasting and then were given the option of returning to the vehicle, or riding down the old funicular and being picked up at the bottom. We, of course, rode the funicular down rather than walk up to the vehicle. On the way back, we pulled into the same winery I had shown Luis pictures of in the morning. Luis said it was the only option without a previous reservation. When we got inside, things went sour again. Instead of being seated at at one of the many empty tables, after speaking to the staff, Luis asked us what type of wine we wanted and directed us to a couple of chairs off to the side, where we could drink a glass of wine - not a proper wine tasting, and again, no food. He said the tables were for eating customers. We were once again upset, refused the offer, and demanded to be taken back to Santiago.
The communication with valentina, the guide, was really smooth. Valentina was a brilliant guide with great local knowledge. She had just the right amount of friendliness with very clear directions and was very easy to understand. The walk around Valparaiso was the highlight of the tour and the suggestion for the lunch spot was brilliant. Jose was a very reliable driver. The backseat of the van was not designed for four adults: this was a very uncomfortable seat and the other three occupants also said that it was.
The tour guide and the drive were very professional. Valparaíso it is a wonderful spot and deserves to be visited. I wish I could have stayed longer exploring the city.
We had a wonderful day driving through the Casablanca Valley and visiting Valparaiso. Our driver Christian and our guide Giano were very friendly and shared their love of Chile with us. We really enjoyed walking in Valparaiso and learning about the importance of this port.
While the bus was private, it did not look like it had been cleaned in years. The “wine tasting” is at a bathroom rest stop location and not in the actual vineyard. If you want to look a murals and walk around then you should book the tour, but not a must see
The trip was terrible, not what written in description at all. Tour guid didn’t tell as anything about locations we were visiting (he gave us only names). What he said that he usually do tours over Santiago and not this cities and now learning about them with us. We missed half of mentioned locations especially those that we written as passed by. Wine tasting was at winery was a stop at wine shop, were all customers can try one ore two types of cheap wine before buying it for free (no food was included, nothing was told about the wine). By fact we paid just for privet transfer to the city and back
I really enjoyed this tour and in particular our host Miguel. He had remarkable depth and breadth of knowledge. He was a great communicator and a welcoming representative of Chilean culture. Juan Carlos’ steady hand at the wheel inspired confidence. There's so much to know about so many of the topics covered in the tour, I find myself wishing we'd had more time to delve into each. Personal highlights included interacting with the fishermen and wildlife at the fish market in Viña del Mar and the many wonderful street artists throughout the beautiful Valparaíso.
Gabriel was knowledgable and kept a good pace communicating the history and interesting facts of the area. Valparasio was a beautiful city and the hilltop views, murals and colors are breathtaking.
Great tour with Gabriella of Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar on a beautiful day! Very informative and knowledgeable, fun, and flexible guide. Highly Recommend 😊. Cheers!
Great Experience and helpful tour guide. Very knowledgeable of the areas and the historic facts. Trip was cool and bus was comfortable
Excellent tour, would definitely recommend. The guide was very knowledgeable. Especially enjoyed the stop at the waterfront and winery.
Luis and Rebecca were so so warm and hospitable .. and went out of their way to make sure everything was amazing. Luis shared so many interesting details about different places and Rebecca was always making sure I was in a happy place. I loved this excursion !
Complete ripoff. While our driver was a very nice person, and we enjoyed his company, he was not by any stretch of the imagination a "professional guide". He wasn't even an amateur guide. He was a driver, with a car, and upfront about that. He had no knowledge of the things he took us too, and we were taken to almost none of the promised locations. Mostly it seemed oriented towards taking us to souvenir shops, trying to get us to spend time in museums (that were not part of the tour) that he'd meet us back at later (we declined), and an expensive, mediocre, touristy restaurant. The "wine tasting" consisted of going to a wine/liquor supermarket where a salesman allowed us to taste one, and only one, thimbleful of wine. We basically had to accept that the tour was nothing remotely like what was promised, and was a complete waste of time and money.
We were picked up a bit later than scheduled because the small tour group became a bigger one. First stop was for coffee but also to have some wine tasting in Casablanca. Really good so I ended up buying a bottle of blue wine! Next stop was Valparaiso and the highlight was the walking tour around the colourful streets. Murals on the walls were very creative and attractive. Best part was walking to the music played by our tour guide, Gonzalo! Really loved his music- a mix of classical, pop and jazz! Then on way to Vińa del Mar, we dropped by the rose watch garden and museum where an Easter Island icon was on display. Lunch at one of the restaurants by the beach was divine and we enjoyed the octopus and ceviche dishes. Overall, a lovely day to see these tourist attractions in Chile toured by a wonderful guide!
Mauricio was our driver and tour guide this has been the second trip with him by now he is family. Best driver and tour guide I recommend and would even request him! Now about this tour he had to stop in the so call Casablanca tasting it’s not what you think but it is a necessary stop for bathroom break. Everything else was perfect and he made sure we had the best time trip probably lasted longer than it should have but he goes above and beyond! Gracias un millón Mauricio por todo!
We had a fabulous day with Jaime our driver. He was so accomodating and showed us everything he could as well as being very knowledgable. Highly recommend for a day trip in Santiago.
